Castor Oil

........has been a heaven sent for my hair. I've been using it faithfully 3 times a week for the past month and Ive noticed how much stronger, thicker and longer my hair has become. Sometimes I mix it up with jojoba oil because it's consistency is thick. I must note that there is no magical potion that will grow your hair. Just exercise patience! Find out what works for your hair because like our nails and face our hair can always use some TLC!

Beauty Starts Within

I recently attended my best friend's wedding. I was humbled to be asked to be her MOH. On accepting that responsibility, I accepted to abide by her rules in order to make her dream wedding a reality. Her wedding was set for early September. I decided after her wedding I'd go completely natural (no extensions, relaxers, weaves etc) She postpones the wedding until this past Sunday. I had been natural for a month. I was loving it! She informed me that I couldnt wear my tresses in their natural state. She suggested I get braids or a full headed weave. I was flabbergasted. I eventually had to purchase a $35 wig that I will never wear again only because she felt having long, silky flowing hair is the epitome of beauty. Not to mention her cousin applied skin bleaching cream to her face prior to applying her makeup. I will leave this alone. I write this because "they" have done a magnificent job in tearing us down emotionally and spiritually. We are inundated  with images from TV, magazines, videos etc with all these images of what beauty should be. In the process we have lost our inner beauty masked by false sense of beauty through weaves and relaxers. I dont knock those who choose this route. However trying to change one's image to fit the standard of another is grossly disturbing. I felt out of body by wearing that wig. She says: you've worn weave your whole life! Now you're pro-natural everything? I said: yes. that was then this is now. We all gotta evolve at some point in life. I dont even think the same way I did 3 years ago!! It's like ending a relationship. You don't go back to it if you know the reasons it ended in the first place. You don't dwell on the coulda woulda shouldas. Just move forward and embrace the new journey your life has taken. Peace, beauty, happiness and fulfillment start from within. Until that happens, the void will always be present...looking for outward means to complete us. Yall be well!

High Curly Updo

Earlier this evening I was watching a YouTube video on a high curly updo. I'm sitting in front of my PC in awe of this woman's beauty and hair. The style looked easy enough so I made an attempt to recreate it. Didn't quite turn out the same. My curls weren't as defined as hers. I still liked the 'do though. I admit sometimes my hair grinds my gears but this journey has taught me some things. 1)exercise patience in all things it makes the end result that more worthwhile 2)no two coily heads are the same 3)accept that your curls will not do what others will 4)learn to understand what your hair loves. healthy and happy hair = healthy and happy naturalista

Twist & Shout

I've mentioned in a previous post that 2-strand twist out is my favorite style during this stage of my hair transition. I usually damp my hair and add either the curly smoothie to give it moisture or the curling souffle to give it the look I want. I've been happy with the results so far. I tried them on my hair dry, wore my satin bonnet to bed and today my curls have never looked so defined! I love it! I wore my hair a little differently. I've also noticed that by DC'ing once a week and drinking plenty of water my hair experiences less breakage. For someone whose split hairs would adorn brushes and combs like it was going out of style....this makes me even happier that I chose to go the natural route. Ladies, stick to your guns and stand your ground. It's tempting to want to perm it up and have silky, flowing hair run across your shoulders but it's more freeing to me when a few years down the line I can rock that look without the assistance of chemicals. Say it loud and proud: Natural Girls Are Fierce!

Say what??!

I've gotten a lot more compliments wearing my hair naturally than I ever did wearing weaves, braids etc I'm loving it and having fun with it! My hair feels softer and looks healthier. Lately I've been using floral barrettes in my hair and people have mentioned how "exotic" it makes me look. Ok...I aint mad keep 'em coming lol Two strand twists are definitely my go-to staple hairstyle. My Shea Moisture collection is growing :) I purchased a satin bonnet recently and wore it last night to bed. It does a great job in keeping my style intact. It's a little tight around the edges but I guess that prevents it from slipping off cuz I sleep like a beast lol
