I know what you're thinking, "Why is this girl talking about crazy curls when her blog picture is of her with stick straight hair?" I asked myself this many times about my hair. My natural hair is very curly (3b) and the color is ash blonde. For many years, I have done everything you can think of to my hair.
When I was in college, I had this bright idea of going to a fancy salon and getting my hair highlighted. That was a big mistake! The beauticians at the salon had no idea how to highlight my hair. I ended up with huge streaks of bleach blonde and black stripes down my head! Thank God it was close to Thanksgiving break and I could get my mother to repair the mess, but I had to cover my head for days. This was the beginning of my hair apocalypse!
I wish I could show you all of the pictures of the different hair colors and styles that came after my first highlight hair travesty. After the highlights, I went to a dark brown to tone down all the skunk stripes in my hair. That lasted about 6 months, till my boyfriend at the time wanted me to be blonde. I was silly and thought I could try it out. My hair started out pretty like the picture above with my straight blonde hair, but it was too good to be true. The lady who I went to, kept dying more blonde into my hair instead of just doing the roots. My hair was fried, bleached, dry, and my hair was falling out. It did not help that I straightened it everyday too.
I tried to cover the horrible hair color with a box color that I got for $3. Warning, never ever try to fix your hair with a box color! I had no idea what I was doing, but I was poor and could only afford a color from a box. Who would have guessed my hair turned out orange. Desperately in need of a hair fix, my friend helped me out and made it an even reddish brown. I must say it looked very nice on me, but I missed my natural hair color. I remember my family always teasing me saying, "I wonder what hair color Chelsea has this week" or "Whoa girl, you have Neapolitan hair!" I have heard it all about my hair. This went on for about 2 years and I am recently trying to grow out all of the processed hair. I currently do have two hair colors, but the one is my natural hair color coming back in. I refuse to dye it to try to match my natural hair color. My hair has been through a lot and it's slowly going back to normal. I noticed that my hair is not as curly as it used to be because I tried to change it so much. I really learned through this whole fiasco that curly hair is beautiful! Curly hair is so unique and we should rock it! I wanted to share my experience of how it took me to love my curly hair. :)
I could really tell more about my hair experiences, but that would just take forever. I apologize if my writing is bad. I am not a strong writer and this was my first blog ever :)
