I am just a baby in the transitioning process. Why don't I do the Big Chop? I would rather transition than do the big chop for now. I believe that I cannot manage the TWA at the moment. I am not bashing other naturalists who have done the BC. |
Big Chop looks so nice!
Being at 6 weeks of growth..my hair is very easy to manage. I used to stretch my relaxer to most 12 weeks so I know how to handle my hair up at that point. I barerly remember what my natural hair looked like when I first transition since it was so long ago. Like really long time ago.
The reasons why I decide to go natural:
1. I miss my natural curly pattern
2. I am tired of the relaxers and the use of heat
3. I want to see my natural hair potential in terms of growth and beauty.
The last reason is very important to me because I believe that every transitioners should write a list of reasons why they want to go back natural. It would not only be a reminder why but give confidence to you when you are asked that infamous question.
Why are you going back natural?
For so long I have been told that "good hair" is more of Euro-centric standards of beauty and any Afro-centric standards of beauty was seen as a negative. Over the years of seeing what was considered as good hair. I relaxed my hair at the age of 13 because all the girls around me had relaxed hair. During high school, I still continued to relax my hair however my hair was not unhealthy. It was long (bra strap length) and girls at my high school would complain that I kept hiding my "beautiful" hair. I am not saying that relaxed hair is not more beautiful than natural hair however I believe that being natural is such a high standard of beauty that we as Black women should embrace.
I know that going natural is not going to be an easy process. I know what is like to deal with two different textures for over two years but now that I am researching more and more about natural hair and types, products and methods of caring for your natural curls even transitioning methods.
I do not really have a goal in terms of length of my natural hair but I do have goal of having healthy hair. Even though I am in the early weeks of transitioning, I am doing natural styles from now so that I will be able to manage in later weeks to come.
I hope to embark on this natural healthy journey in the upcoming months.
Kurly Rushie Naturalness Journey
Hello Everyone...I am just starting to transition to natural hair (6 weeks in BTW). I am doing this second time because the first time I did this not much research was done. Silly me! I want to go natural because I really MISS my curly pattern.
