Late October 2009, I decided to dye my 4a/4b hair. When I would attempt to do a wash and go, my hair was always frizzy in certain sections in which it was difficult to define. I have used several products with the same results. Not sure, if it's the shampoo and conditioner that I was using or what. So, I thought if I got a good protein treatment maybe that will help with defining my curls, specifically the Defrizz Bath.|
On 8 July 2009, I went to a salon and got the Smooth & Healthy Protein Treatment Defrizz Bath. I left the salon with absolutely no curls. Prior to the treatment, the stylest reassured me that the treatment would only last for 4 - 6 weeks. When I say that I was praying that it would revert back, I really mean it. I hated the way my hair looked from the time she turned me around in the chair to look in the mirror. I was so dissappointed and angry with the product and myself for getting it. Well, it's been over 6 1/2 months and my curls did not return. I believe the combination of the dye and the protein treatment produced the worst split ends I've ever seen. It left my hair limp, dull and rough. My hair was damaged, it was approximately 8" at the time; but, now it's about 5" because I had to start cutting the straight ends off. I still have another 2 - 2.5" to cut off, my plan is to cut the remaining hair in May - June 2011. At that time, I should have approximately 3.5"; at that length I would be aable to style my hair easier.
Currently, I wash my hair with black soap. That has been my biggest challenge since my natural journey over 2 years ago. So far, I've had no luck in finding a shampoo that doesn't strip my hair. Also, I've been looking for a good moisturizer to maintain and/or improve the overall health of my hair. Due to my disappointment with the effects of the protein treatment on my hair, protective styling has been my style of choice since November 2010, I will continue protective styling for atleast another month or two.
This has definitely been a learning experience for me. Two years of growth and I have to start over. I have vowed to leave my hair alone and not to use any more dyes and protein treatments. My focus now is to strive for healthy hair with less manipulation and by using the right products. I believe the Pantene Pro-V Curly Hair Series line is going to be the right product for my hair.
Smooth & Healthy Protein Treatment Gone Wrong
Hi! My name is Le'Keisha and I've had the worst experience with dye's and protein treatments that's suppose to be temporary. I've been natural for almost two years and have learned a lot along the way. This blog will address my successes and failures.
