Protective Style: Twists

So I've been doing well in my Grow Out Challenge. I'm still drink tons of water (but I do give myself a break by treating myself to something different to drink).

I've been washing my hair weekly, deep conditioning, and use Kimmay Tube's leave-in conditioner recipe.  I am also using shea butter for my twists.

Sometimes I have an overwhelm urge to take the twist down and wear my hair out but I resist the urge (most of the time). Plus I've been getting tons of compliments on my twists and so I've decided to keep them in. I am planning on repeating this style for the next couple of weeks.

I'm also thinking about creating my very own whipped shea butter mix. SO STAY TUNE.

My first twist out

updated:

I've been drinking tons of water. So much so that its literally leaving my body as quickly as its entering it. LOL.

I tried kimmaytube's leave-in conditioner. So far so good. My hair feels great. I'll continue to use it and see if the results are continuous. If so I've founded a winner.

However, I used shea butter also (while twisting my hair) and I don't think I'll will use shea butter with the conditioner again. I think the ingredients of the leave-in condition suffices. I may also reduce the amount of castor oil & include some sort of essential oil like lavender, rosemary etc.

I have tried Shea Moisture products, the conditioner, shampoo & deep conditioner. I actually really like the shampoo even though I didn't like it that much while transitioning. But I don't have any of the deep conditioner or shampoo left.  Therefore I purchased the Kinky-Curly Shampoo & Conditioner. So I'm going to try those products out.

I should mention that I don't consider myself a product junk. I buy a product and I won't purchased another product until I've depleted the old product. If I really like the original product I will repurchase it . If not I'll try something new. However, I hoping to find some staple products in the near future but I'm new this natural game so I'm exploring my options.

I wash my hair once a week. I've always done this even when my hair was relaxed. My hair & scalp can't survive too long without water. I deep condition my hair also which is another habit from my relaxes days. So my wash & condition schedule has stayed consistent for almost 10 years (actually I've started deep conditioning in the past 3yrs). However, the products I use, how I detangle & style my hair has changed over the years.

Twist out:

Also I rocked my first ever twist-out all over 4hrs. I wore medium-large twist during the work week and I took them down soon as I got home. Love the look but I have a weekend trip to attend and I wasn't sure how long the twist-out would last. So I just washed my hair & deep conditioned & used kimmay tube's leave-in conditioner & retwisted my hair in slightly smaller twist. I may rock the twist out this weekend though.

Twist

Just finished twisting my hair. I used herbal essence leave-in conditioner for a moisturizer & shea butter as a sealant. I used the herbal essence because I needed something to moisturize my hair & it was really light. I had these conditioner for awhile and being using it off & on for a few months. So I am hoping to wear these twists until Friday. Then wear my hair out for the weekend. Lets hope for the best.

I should mentioned that I had to cut some more of my hair. I still had some straight piece of left. I'll keep y'all updated on my progress.

I am also drinking more water but that's definitely going right through me. LOL.

1st Post: New Natural

So I am totally new to being natural. Literally I cut 3inches of relaxed hair less then 36hrs ago. I have posted pictures of my transitioning hairstyles and also my hair shortly after I cut it. I am hoping to do the similar hair styles during this grow-out challenge.

Right now I'm deep conditioning my hair without heat. I have a plastic bag (LOL) over my head then a towel in order to create body heat. My plan to wash the conditioner out and then mini-twist my hair while watching the Superbowl. I figured that protective style will help me retain hair during this winter season.

  • Hello. I'm Me-Me and a brand new natural. I cut off my relaxed ends on Feb. 5th, 2011. It was 3inches. I transitioned for 16months. So I'm new to being natural but I've done tons of research. So I hoping to grow out my hair & strive for healthy hair
