One of the best curl-definers I've ever used. And, a little goes a long way!

I love-love-love this stuff, especially over CK! It gives me amazing, curl boosted, chunky curls. I seem to get the best results when I use only a little bit and use a wide-toothed comb to evenly dispurse it.

Love the stuff! It is easy to use and provides the right amount of softness, curl definition and shine to weigh down my curls without being too crunchy.

One of the best products I've tried for curl formation. The curls aren't crunchy at all, but they have good definition and shine. It has a nice, creamy consistency - not greasy.

This is the best product to define my curls. I use the recoil together with the Curly Keeper.

Great product, but not at full strength. After rubbing it in my hands I run my hands under water and then apply. Pretty expensive though. I get similar results with Marc Anthony curl cream which is about $8 cheaper.

This did an excellent job defining my 3A curls. Really great. I recommend it.
It dried faster than KCCC and produced just as good results.

I love this stuff I used it for the first time this morning for a wash and go. I think I may have used a lil to much because I have some crunchies here and there But either way I love this stuff.I Have a little frizz,But I sprayed just a little simply healthy hair leave-in conditioner with grapeseed oil firstto try an control the frizz but then right after raked AG:recoil straight through my hair.My hair is like 85% dry. I will definitely be purchasing the curl keeper to maintain my frizz control. Overall this is great stuff the curl formation kind of remind me of kinky curly....12oz tube here I come love love love this stuff...For all thr curlies that are like 3c's wth some 4a I would reccomend. I have some shrinkage but not a whole lot I just kept shaking my hair like every 20mins to try and keep some elongation. But I love the way hair came out it looks like a straw set kinda springy boingy curls like....I found me another keeper that I probably would have not tried just trying to stick with my basic products,

Hair type: 3A, super fine texture, spirals. I tried every which way to get this to work for me. To me, it's like a very heavy leave in conditioner that is like that tacky wall glue. I tried raking it through my hair, combing it through, mixing it with some water. However, I think it is a good refresher. When I put a little bit in my hands and then added some water and scrunched on dry hair it salvaged a bad hair day pretty well. So many people have good luck with it though so give it a shot!

I've been using this product for about 4 days now and trying different ways to style my hair with it, and I think I've finally found the perfect combo. I have 2c hair so when I used this the first time it left my hair really crunchy and gave it the wet look, 2 things I don't like. When I used my diffuser with the product it made my waves a little softer. Finally last night I put it in my hair before going to bed, diffused it just to get a lot of wetness out, and then slept on it. When I work up this morning my waves looked great and didn't have the crunchy feel to it. Usually sleeping on my hair makes it completely crazy in the morning, but having this product in it really made it work well. I'm a fan.

This product works great with my curls. Like people have been saying, a little goes a long way - which makes me feel like I'm getting my money's worth. I also love not having to put a ton of product in my hair. This really helps define and separate my curls without weighing down or drying out my hair.

I have 3C hair. It's extremely THICK and being black I can honetly tell you that I've tried a lot of curly products since I've transitioned to my natural texture....Miss Jessie's if O.K. but my hair would be fizzy the next day...Kinky Curly is O.K. but it wouldn't define the ringlets I was born with (PLUS ITS A GEL) and my hair type needs a cream for moisture. I REALLY, REALLY like the AG RE:COIL because it DEFINES, SEPARATES, AND KEEPS THE FRIZZ AWAY. You don't need to use that much but just make sure it's evenly distributed on very wet hair AFTER YOU APPLY THE AG FASTFOOD LEAVE-IN CONDITIONER FIRST! For people who stated that their hair was "crunchy" you probably used to much...and for people who said it dried their hair out you probably didn't apply this product over a leave-in conditioner. TRUST ME - JUST GIVE IT A TRY...I should know since I have tried almost everything. This is the best I've found. It really is the "Best of the Best" for a reason. Good luck finding it at a salon near you.

Why did I wait so long to try this? I bought a tube months ago, and I got two other tubes free from promotions. And yet it sat there untried. I guess I was worried about how much to use and what to use it with. Anyway, I found a new hairdresser (when my old one retired) and she used Re:coil and I loved the result. Since that two weeks ago, I've only been using Re:coil as my styler and find it works wonderful for me with or without CurlKeeper (hate the smell of that). Re:coil has a pleasant, discreet scent, a creamy texture, and it really does tame frizz, define curl, and maintain non-crunchy softness. Only drawback is I find it drying. However, I use Curl Junkie CALI underneath and no problem. I happen to use a good amount (a nickel sized blob rubbed in my palms until both hands have a creamy layer, then rake and scrunch it into damp or wet, but not soaking-wet, hair. Maybe by summer I might need a gel or CK on top, but for now, just Re:coil is rocking it for me in moist spring weather. I'm glad now I have three tubes. :D Oh, and it doesn't irritate my supersensitive, allergy-prone scalp/neck/face skin.

I bought it based on positive reviews, and I am sorry to say that this is awful. In fact, one of the worst I've ever tried. Hair was super crunchy, rough the touch and hard to manage. Basically looked and felt terrible. I'm obviously in the minority here, but this was my experience with this product. I was patient with it and tried it several times, but we're just not meant to be. The orange creamsicle scent was the only likeable thing about this product. Straight to the trash can it went.

It's a great product but you have to tweak how much you use OR your hair will get crunchy. It's better then most products I've tried. I now only have to put on AG Fast Food then Re:Coil.
Both are pretty expensive in Canada (well at least Vancouver). I put out 50+$ every 6-8 weeks.

Ok, it's time for me to write a review on this! I have a short, angled bob cut and fairly thick hair. It's starting to get humid here in Michigan and I don't want a poofball hairdo - so I'm reordering Recoil. I have other options, one of which is Arc An Gel but I have to turn to Recoil. This morning I cut apart the tube to get the last little bit out. I use Curl Keeper under it, but it works well without it too. My curls are defined, smooth and soft. Awesome!

The best gel-creme on the market in my opinion. This stuff is the bizness in terms of frizz reduction, curl enhancement, and clumpage! It's not producty and it leaves my hair feeling moist and light. Now, for some the mag sulfate may be a tad drying, but its easily remedied by using a LI under it.

I try to wash my hair every 3-4 days to keep it from drying out and this product is GREAT on the first day. I get lots of compliments on Day 1. The product holds my ringlets and gets rid of frizz.
However, on Day 2-3, it does exactly what it says on the bottle -- produces "beach hair." ...and I don't mean sexy Baywatch-style beach hair. I mean "I got caught in a wave and dragged under, sweated in the hot sun all day and can't wait to take a shower" beach hair.
I use Jessicurl Awe Inspiraling Spray to reactivate my curls and it works well, but I've used other products that don't require so much maintenance after Day 1.
Even though the product is great on Day 1, I won't buy it again.

This product works well but, to my nose, it smells awful. Most AG products are intensely scented, which is a problem for people like me. If you don't mind strong scents, then this is definitely an above average product.

Love this stuff! My all time go to curl styler. This is the only product that gives me beautiful results every time I use it. My curly 3/a color damaged hair is shiney with ringlets all over my head. It works well with several other products, so experiment. Oh, and it took me a couple of tries to get the application right so keep that in mind. I highly recommend this product. It has a decent smell too, kind of like immatation vanilla.

This is a really great product! I'd give it 5 curls, but the product made my hair pretty scrunchy while drying. Other than that I love it, and will definetly repurchase! It makes perfect defined curls and smells DELICIOUS! Almost kndof marshmallow-y

I really liked this product. It definitely needs a leave in conditioner underneath it as I've seen on some other reviews. Without it I think you tend to have some frizz. I used the jessicurl rockin' ringlets with the DevaCare Arc AnGel which was great but with my coarse hair I needed something heavier and this did the trick. I haven't seen a whole lot of reviews for 2C curls. I also use a hair serum as well as a base to start.

I'm glad this is working for so many people, but I just couldn't get it to do anything for me. Like Mop Curl Definer Creme, Re:Coil is like glue and is very difficult for me to distribute. It made my hair frizzy, greasy and very flat on top. When my hair dried, I had a halo of frizz all over the place before I could even scrunch it out. Maybe it works for some people, but my hair is too fine for this type of product. It might be better for folks with thicker, courser hair.

I bought this product over a year ago and used it 'sparingly' as the other reviewers suggested and it did nothing for my hair. I came back and re-read the reviews and thought I'd give it another go. I used Mixed Chicks leave-in conditioner (either on hair that is very wet or I prefer diluting the leave-in with water and spraying on damp hair) and then a few good sized squirts of AG Recoil (my hair is 3B and barely shoulder length). It is hard to use that combination and have your hair go crunchy, but if it does, you can easily scrunch it out. It is an amazing combination for me, but I know different things work on different people.

This is one of the best curl creams I have ever used! As a curly stylist I have tried almost everything under the sun, as we all have! This holds your curls lets them dry right and when it is dry, you can scrunch to soften the look and it still holds your curls! And your hair doesn't feel weighted down or gunky. Bravo to AG!

This product is IT! I cannot live without it. I have 3b/3c hair and live in humid Georgia, which can be a frizz nightmare in the summer! This product does away with my frizz and gives me curl definition without the crunch. I had to play with it at first but when I found out a little went a LONG way all was well. (I have A LOT of hair and still only use a dime-sized amount.) I use a leave-in first and then add a dime-sized dollop into my hair, scrunching it as I apply. Sometimes I add 2-3 drops of grapeseed oil with it when I feel my hair is a little too dry. Then I let it air dry and I do not touch it!! It works wonders!

This product is fantastic. It really does define and "activate" my curls like I've never seen before. Since I've started using this product, I get daily compliments on my curls. I have shoulder lenth 3b hair and use 3-4 pumps (each is about a teaspoon) and thats it! It leaves my hair bouncy, curly, and soft-absolutely no crunch and it feel like I have nothing in there. I keep it in the shower and put it on my hair while its practically dripping, set it in a microfiber towel for 15 minutes and then diffuse for a few minutes and my hair is good to go for up to 3 days. Give it a try!

Love this stuff! I use it in concert with AG's Fast Food (FF first, then this).
I think that those who have posted negative reviews were either using too much or using it on hair that was too dry (it needs very wet hair).
APPLICATION I finger rake it into my very wet upside down 3a/3b long hair while still standing in the shower then I gently scrunch a bit and wrap my head in a tshirt for ten minutes before letting it out.
RESULTS: I get soft, smooth defined bouncy ringlet curls. Very little crunch, lots of smoothness. I've gotten tons of compliments on my hair from strangers since I started with this stuff. But a little goes a LONG way. I've only on my 2nd tube, after almost a year of use!

I have thick waist length hair & it takes a good 1/4 of the tube to work on my hair. It made it stiff after it dried, but scrunching it loosened it up. No friz! Put it on very wet hair, combed thru, flipped hair down and scrunched. Don't touch while drying. Retains curls longer than CK. Spritz with water to reactivate. Love it.

I have never used a curl activator but I sure needed one! This product gave my hair just what it needed to get soft ringlets instead of just squiggles for curls. It took me several tries to find the right application method and combination for my hair but after 3 or 4 tries I think I have it right. I have soft bouncy, shiny curls that look fantastic. My hair usually had half formed curls that didn't quite make the cut. I agree that a litte goes a long way and it must be applied to soaking wet hair. I added it to Curl Keeper and a little gel and scrunched dry. Love it!

Cons: very thick consistency. Hard to distribute through hair.I mix it with my Biotera gel or my Curl Keeper and finger comb it through.(a little goes a long way) Don't like the smell too much, something like wannabe vanilla...
Pros: creates nice chunky curls. Leaves my curls very defined from roots to ends. Love the curl formation and they last all day. Works life gel and hairspray in one, great hold!! No frizz at all.
truly recommend it

It took me a bit to get on the bus with this. But once I figured out that this product likes to be RAKED through WET hair and not scrunched through damp hair, it made all the difference.
Re:Coil makes my 3b curls put their best foot forward. My curls, which have a tendency to run amok in all directions, have shape, clumpage, and definition. My curls are fatter and bouncier than with nigh any other product I've ever tried.
I use Re:coil in combination with Curl Keeper and finish off with Curlisto's Unruly Paste for a shiny, piecey turnout. I'm forever getting compliments from strangers on my "beautiful curls". That has never, honestly, ever happened before.

Jury's still out, but so far, a TINY bit does go VERY far. I use a spot the width of the bottle's opening, mixed with a dollop of L'Oreal Out of bed Weightless Texturizer, and smooth throughout the hair. I use a second portion like the first for the under layers. I seem to be getting less clumping than just with LOOB, so I might use even less Re:coil next time.

I noticed this product wasn't as moisturizing when I put it on as what I'm used too. However, when my hair dried, it looked great and my hair was moisturized. As the day wore on, though, my hair got drier and drier. By the end of the day, my hair was dry, course, and frizzy. The moisture doesn't last all day for me, even though it starts off pretty good. The smell was a little too strong for me too. Happy to hear it works for a lot of 3Cs out there. My 3C/4A hair really absorbs moisture and I need products that work 'all day' since I don't have time to reapply during the day.

I love this mixed with Confident Coils. It makes my hair curl all the way up to the root, and gives me the cutest chunky spirals. Also, mixing this with CCSS makes it much easier to distribute (something I could never do well with it on its own). Have not yet had a problem with dryness, but I do rotate my products.

Smell is very pleasant, promotes awesome clumping. A little goes a long way, has a somewhat paste-y texture when applying so sometimes more touching than my hair can handle is necessary thus frizz... but am starting to try it layered with other products with good success. Overall a very great product!

I agree with everyone else, this stuff is amazing! I have the best results when I use about a pea size amount, and mix it with some water and then work it into wet hair. It is very thick and you don't need much. I can use it alone for soft curls, or with my gel for tighter, long lasting curls. I believe that the people that posted negative results weren't using it correctly. Awesome, awesome product!

I absolutely freakin' love this product. It is one of the best curl enhancers I have ever used. Everybody is right, though, a little bit will go an awful long way. And, you get such great shine, frizz control and curl definition. I like to layer it over my favourite volumizing mousse. I have gotten so many compliments on my gorgeous curls when I use Re:coil. This past new year's I was a curl goddess! The only complaint I have (and this is a very, very tiny complaint) is the smell. It's sort of sweet, I don't know, like vanilla ice cream or something. To me, it's not a fresh, clean smell. However, it does go away really quickly and you're still left with super model curls ready to walk the catwalk of life.

I had such high hopes for this product when it arrived in the mail. First, the consistency feels like glue. Second, once my hair dried my hair was clumped togeter at the crown of my head. Third, it flattened the top of my head and created clumpy curls at the bottom. Fourth, my curls were so crunchy once they dried. I will try experimenting with countaties as suggested, but right now this product is terrible for my curls.

(3c) really good product. great definition w/o leaving is crispy or stiff. a little goes a long way. i've got A LOT of hair and i use a small dollop of it (penny size). feels a little drying w/ prolonged use, but i've curbed that by using just a tad of grapeseed oil or glossing creme before i put AG on. then it holds the moisture very well.

Wow! This really worked for me. A small dap layered between leave-in and Curl Keeper and I had the curls I crave--big, chunky, shiny, touchable, frizz free curls. Strange texture out of the tube, and it seems to get thicker in your hands. Definitely easier to use on very wet hair. Moving this product the head of the line.

I am disappointed with this product. It's very concentrated which I thought would be a good thing, but I have to use a lot to get thru my hair, and it doesn't help frizz at all, therefore I can't comment on the curl formation. On to the next product!

I cannot believe how much difference this product makes. I have a perfect system that leaves my curls completely frizz free now and this is the crowning glory (last product I use to finish me off). If I use something else, it shows. If I use Devacare Lowpoo, DevaCare One Condition, Curl Keeper and finish with this, my hair is literally frizz free with soft loose curls. I have noticed though that all 4 products must be used together or some of the frizz comes back so they work in conjunction with one another. This truly takes the frizz down and out. Its wonderful stuff.

Like everyone has said, a little really does go a long way. And it is hard to work with. That being said...
PROS:
-clumps curls together extremely well. If you're like me and have lots of wispy strands of curls flying around everywhere, it will definitely help.
-concentrated. Will last a long time
CONS:
-virtually no frizz control in the summer. Not good, especially since it tends to weigh hair down (another con)
-it's really hard to get consistent good results with this product. It's pretty finicky.
I have fine 3b hair, I like this product for the chunkier curls but it really is difficult to get the right amount without weighing your hair down. I think for thicker, coarser hair, it may work better.

Probably the best product I've found for my hair, but it's not perfect. Great definition and some shine, but you have to use exactly the right amount, otherwise it feels glue-y. I like to mix it with something with a lot of silicone, like JF's DownPlay.

Love this! Mix with curl keeper for frizz-free curls that last all day. My curls tend to be a little too crunchy if I use too much of this product, but this stuff is great to enhance the curl in the straighter hair around my face.

LOVE this stuff! It's the only curl activator I've tried that actually works. I use a very small amount (less than a pea-size) under my other stylers. I can definitely tell that my hair is much curlier when I use this stuff.

I like to use this product once in a while when I want a real strong hold but it is "crunchy" in my hair. It has great hold and gives lots of volume. Can dry my hair out if I use it to often.

Again this did nothing for my hair. I bought four products from AG Hair and about the only thing I liked is the Xtramoist shampoo.

I don't think I've had the same luck with this product as most of you. It's nice, and I'm still experimenting with it, but it isn't the best thing I've ever used. So far, my best results have come when I mixed a small amount of it with FastFood and apply it that way.

i'm not sure how i feel about this product...once i get it to work, it cuts down on frizz and enhances curls, but it takes so much effort to keep it from weighing down my hair and making it a fluffy frizzy mess.

Re:coil is my HG cream styler, that I adore even more than Boots! It has enough hold for me to use it alone when I want a softer look. I just love how it controls frizz, it's quite miraculous actually considering the number of products that I've tried and that didn't keep their promise to eliminate frizz... I mix it with water in my hands so distribute it easily and evenly in my hair. It's fantastic in wet and dry hair, and for 2nd day curls. My hair even turns out shiny with it!

I love this stuff! I use it in with Paul Mitchell Sculpting Foam (medium hold) and some watered-down gel. The Re:Coil helps to evenly curl my hair all over, and it makes it possible for me to wear my hair curly a second day without having to thoroughly wet it. It works okay by itself, but the combination of this with the sculpting foam makes my curls outstanding.

This stuff is great. Curl definition is better than any other product I've used.

A/G is fast becoming one of my fave lines. Recoil is a difficult product to work with... I give everyone that. What works very well for me is mixing about 40% recoil with 60% fastfood, smooshing it all together in my hands and then scrunching in my hair when still dripping wet. Then I plop for 10 mins, dry and voila, way better than curls rock for me (I can't find anything to mix this one with). Worth a shot IMHO.

I feel like I have tried almost every product out there. Recoil is the absolute BEST for my hair. My hair is dry, frizzy, and wild. This tames it. It gives fab definition that my hair does not get with any other product. Remember, every curly head is different, but for me, this is it!

I've been using re:coil since I first started going "natural" almost one year ago. Although I do not use it daily, I always keep in near by. I HATE the fact that it is not consistant with me. Some days BEAUTIFUL hair, other days frizz ball mess. When I do get the right amount in my hair, I get such awesome volume, softness, hold, CURL!! and my hair just looks so natural! Plus, I love the smell. On bad days, my hair grets very frizzy with this cream, or it feels so producty!? I tried watering this down one day with water and my hair felt so gookey...as if it were coated in oil and water?? Not doing that again. Plus, 16$ canadian for this moderate sized tube that doesn't seem to last long for me- NOT good. Overall, I keep coming back to this cream because when it works, it really does do magic on my hair! Very different results from what I've ever gotten from another product!

great product. i like to use it on dry 2nd-day hair. i rub a small amount between wet hands then smooth it into my hair and scrunch and it brings back curl and definition, as well as reducing frizz. love the smell.

Pretty good cream, works well for me for curl formation and some frizz control in the summer, but like my HG (aloe vera gel), it doesn't seem to work during the winter months when the dry heated indoor air makes my hair limp.

I LOVE this product! Great curl formation! I can't use it alone, but with a gel the results are fabulous! I'll definitely be ordering more. Plus I love the smell.

Coated and somewhat dry to the touch is the result that I get with this product. It tends to weigh down my curls, not activate them. Smells nice?!!

Re-review of this: Nice chunky curls. No layering required, but I do put a bit of pomade over it for shine at times. Nice scent. A little goes a long way. Works best for me to rake it in vs. scrunching. Great 2nd day hair too.

Wow! Fantastic stuff! This product actually clumps my hair togethre to produce thicker and curly coils! I tried it alone after the Fast Food leave in, and it looked really good! As stated though, you must start with a dab and I recommend on wet hair, not damp. Experiment with it before giving up on it. It always takes trial and error with quantities and application techniques before you can say whether a product works great for you or not. 4 curly coils from me for Re:Coil!

People seem to either love or hate this one. For me, it's a miracle. Great curl formation without greasiness or weighing down. On very humid or rainy days it doesn't work as well, though.

I am definitely NOT impressed. With as much money as it costs, this product should work miracles. This left my hair crunchy, even though I applied a small amount. However, it did give good curl formation. This product is a typical gel and my Suave Aloe Vera Gel (3$) works just as well.

This is one of the best curl activator's I've ever tried, and I've tried several! Awesome curl definition...the curls I have with this are the clumpiest my curls have ever been. It doesn't feel greasy at all. Didn't really like the smell, but it's tolerable (if you like Lifesaver's Creamsavers or Creamsicles, you'll like the smell of this!). Also gave me a tiny bit of shine. Apply with a light hand, and add more if necessary. This product is amazing for my 3b/3c/4a hair.

This is a great curl former. It dries a bit crunchy, but breaks up nicely once hair is dry to form beautiful, shiny curls. It smells delicious!

This did nothing for my short 2a hair but make it greasy and weighed down. I kept reducing the amount I used each time, but when I got to the amount that didn't weigh it down - I just got frizz. My husband commented that my hair looked dirty. Too bad, I had high hopes for this one.

I like this a lot! I have 3A (although can go from 2C-3B depending on whatever mood it's in that particular day!) hair. I work Re:Coil through damp hair, then use Paul Mitchell Super Sculpt glaze over. I get beautiful, controlled curl! Not sticky, not frizzy. Remember that a little goes a long, long way. Easy to use too much, which will give you icky hair. My only complaint is that I hate the way this smells! Very strong, gagging vanilla scent. Truly awful. The PM glaze seems to take it away though, so I'll keep using because of the great results I get with this!

I really like this product. It makes my hair soft defines curls, and helps with the frizzies. A little does go a long way. Be warned that you can not put too much product in one spot, if you do you hair will be flater and feel greasy. If you are careful with that it's a great product.

The best way to describe the way this product is it's like you just rubbed hand lotion on your head. If you use enough to get curl definition, it weight hair down, flattens the top and creates clumpy curls. If you use just a bit, hair is frizzy and just plain wierd. Too bad because i had looked forward to using this product. And the price! Sixteen bucks for something this bad? Don't waste your money.
