I'm surprised this product isn't rated higher! This is the ONLY gel I can use on my frizzy, course, multi-racial 3a hair. It is a firm hold styler so you have to make sure not to over saturate your hair or else your curls will be crunchy. If a medium or light hold is needed I would suggest Confident Coils (med) or Rockin Ringlets (really light). I pair this styler with the Kinky Kurly Knot Today Leave-In Conditioner and a serum or natural oil. I detangle/ rinse out with Bobeam Peppermint Condish, add the KKKT leave-in, and finally I rake/ scrunch the Spiralicious through sopping hair (ALL WHILE STILL IN THE SHOWER). If needed, I'll add a shine serum or oil to my hair (coconut, almond, or jojoba) for more moisture. The result? The best curls that'll last you 3 days or more if you pineapple at night. I hope Jessicurl never changes this styler's formula. It is natural, good for my hair, and just about the only "gel" I can use!
This is my go to styling gel. I've probably used just about every product on the market to tame my 3b/3c hair. Like many curly haired gals I have multi textured hair with frizzy dry portions on the back of my head. I need a gel that is strong enough to manage the frizz...which I generally tame the frizzy parts with a good humectant or rich pomade, and let spiralicious do the rest. Works great for me!
I have 3A/3B somewhat fine hair. I have the best results when I use the "rake and shake" method of styling my hair instead of applying a styling product to my whole head of hair at once. I use and love Curl Junkie products but was intrigued with this gel. But it's a no go for me. It's extremely sticky, which is annoying. Unless I was just unable to find that sweet spot between using too little and using too much, it seemed to create a monster crunch and not-so-attractive hair that didn't subside until Day3. So Day 1 and Day2 were not good hair days for me at all, which is the opposite problem we curlies usually endure. Is this the trade-off for a harder hold? If so, then maybe this might work for certain curl types. But for my type, I'll stick with a Curl Junkie leave-in followed by their Curls in a Bottle, sometimes along with Coffee-Coco Curl Creme-Lite or Pattern Pusha gel. FYI: I will be posting this review at other sites.
I have very long (51") low porosity 2b/2c virgin hair. I love this gel because it is not stiff and doesn't dry crunchy on my hair. Defines my waves and curls well. I'll definitely reorder this one.
This has a good hold and it toned down my frizz very well (which is hard) i have course, medium thick, 2b/2c short hair
Good hold gel with a lot of good ingredients. I have low porosity 3a/3b very thick hair. My usual products that I used for years have changed formulas (paul mitchell super clean gel) and I have been searching for replacemens. This along with confident coils is working well for me so far (only on week 2). Dont know if its my new hg yet ..time will tell. My hair is alot softer with jessicurl and curls not so frizzy and pouffy which is a difficult thing to manage in SC humidity. Im still experimenting with her shampoo and cond. But all that said this gel is at the top of my list so far.
I have it in unscented, and when I put it in my palm, it felt and smelled like Elmer's school glue, which wasn't a good sign. However, after diffusing, this gel gave me absolutely epic hair with soft, defined, bouncy curls...on day one. However, day two was HORRID - it turned sticky and white when I tried to revive it with water, and my hair just stuck together in a bad way (thick pieces of frizz with white flakes joining them together). The tackiness did not go away all morning, and I count myself lucky that it was my day off and I could wash this crap out of my hair with a sulfate-free shampoo (I didn't trust conditioner to fully remove the terrible, sticky buildup). This is an OK product IF I'm willing to wash my hair every single day without fail, but given that my hair is dry and frizzy, that isn't the best idea in the world, so this gets one star because literally every other gel I've used has let me get 2nd and sometimes even 3rd day hair.
This gel hates me. It evidently works wonders for everyone else, but no matter how much or how little use, no matter what other products I use with it, and no matter how I apply it, it turns my hair into an absolute mess. I have used products that make my hair frizzy, products that make my hair stringy, and products that take out my wave, but this is the one manages to do all of these things simultaneously. It's my anti-HG. I bought this with Rockin Ringlets, and I've tried several times to use them together exactly as directed with no other products other than my leave in (KCKT). I've tried cocktailing ithis gel with other products in a variety of different combinations in a variety of weather conditions. I just haven't been able to make it work for me. I have a whole lot of medium-fine, mixed porosity (growing out highlights...ugh), mid-back length hair that ranges in pattern from 2a (damaged canopy) to 2c (spirally under-layers). Kinky-Curly products work really well for me, but the custard gives out toward the end of the day, so I'm looking for something with stronger hold to use on top or in lieu of it. I was excited about this highly-rated glycerin-free option as the weather in North Texas varies widely from day to day, and it's often humid. I went with the unscented version. In my hand, it reminds me of a somewhat diluted Elmer's glue. In my hair, it feels tacky, even when completely dry. On Friday, my hair was so bad that I skipped lunch to run home, rinse it out, and re-diffuse because I couldn't bear going to my afternoon meetings looking like I had spend the night under a bridge. It really was that bad. If my hair sounds like yours, you might want to get your hands on a sample before you shell out for a full size bottle. If I ever figure out how to get good results, I'll revise this review, but for now, definite thumbs down.
My hair is 2b-3a. I am 60 years old and I believe I have found product nirvana. I am using JessiCurl Spiralicious in combination with JessiCurl cleansing cream, Too Shea, and Confident Coils. The trick with Too Shea is to rinse thoroughly. I am using a tiny amount (a dime to quarter size dollop) of Confident Coils and then a palm full of Spiralicious. I follow the directions exactly. My hair is shiny, bouncy, and frizz-free for up to three days even on very humid days. We haven't gotten into the summer heat yet so I may need adjust my routine, but honestly I couldn't be happier with the Jessicurl products for my hair type!
FINALLY! A product that works in humidity! I have 3A/3B high porosity hair. With most gels, my hair is frizzy and limp by the end of the day. But Spiralicious keeps my hair looking great all day. It works great with anything use it with. Lately I have been applying a dime-size amount of SheaMoisture curl and style milk and then adding Spiralicious. Because I live somewhere humid, glycerin-free products are a must. This is my ABSOLUTE holy grail!! I am a Jessicurl fan for life!!
A good gel but a bit too heavy. Also don't like the fact that the results are only good when hair is soaking wet. My hair doesn't look great when it is wet so it means that I have to wait for 3 hours for my hair to look like it is supposed to look... The hold is pretty good and it makes curls pretty defined. Worked less good in the summer for some reason...
I am an avid buyer of Jessicurl Too Shea Leave in Conditioner and I will have a heart attack if I run out of this stuff because it is that good. I never had a day where I wanted to just switch to another product as I have done with gels and other styling products. And so, in pursuit of a new gel I went through many over the counter products since it appeared to be so much easier to do. Why get disappointed by buying a styling gel online and not know how it would help (despite it's reviews). Well I am now an even more happier buyer of Jessicurl products. This Spiralicious Styling Gel is super awesome!!! I was totally surprised by its texture: silky smooth and it's hold: medium to strong. I really had doubts that it would hold my coils and the shine was never dull. Day 2 hair: still looking great!! My new routine is: Eden's coconut co-wash, Jessicurl's Too Shea Leave In Conditioner and finally the Spiralicious gel. I have received numerous compliments of how soft my hair feels and how healthy it looks. THIS IS a GREAT PRODUCT.
I love this. It is the first time in my life that I only need to use one product in my hair.
Defines my waves well without weighing them down and provides good hold to the second day. It is a bit sticky though and the crunch doesn't always go away. It works best when I use Gelebration spray all over to encourage wave and this on the bottom third. It's in close competition with Wella Elastic Energy Curl Enhancing Mousse, which I think is now Boost Bounds Curl Enhancing Mousse. Those don't have entries here though.
Finally, found a styling product that works for me. I have learned from reading the great articles on this website that I am glycerine sensitive. I also don't use products with hydrolyzed silk or wheat protein. I layer Spiralicious over Kinky Curly Knot Today and Jane Carter Solution Curl Defining Cream. Curls and waves last for days. On day two & three simply turn my head over and message my scalp. Finger style and add some light oil to the ends. The proof this all the compliments I get on my hair.
I'm getting rid of all my other products because I like this brand so much. I got some of both fragrances and they both smell great, but I like the Citrus Lavender a little better (Island Fantasy is coconutty- but not bad at all). I wish I would have bought Spiralicious and their other products a long time ago. I use Confidant Coils on dripping wet hair, then scrunch half Spiralicious half Rockin Ringlets in and let it air dry. My hair looks great when its dry after one more scrunch
Another waste of money. Does nothing to make my curls look good. Sorry, back to Ouidad tress effects!
I have had this for many months and I have no clue what it does. I totally do not see any difference between my hair when I use it or when I do not use it. As it is rather expensive in the Netherlands (15 euro), I have stopped using it.
What more do you want from a gel?! I have been using it for 3 months now and everytime my hair looks realy good. I appreciate the creamy texture, makes it easy to spreak through your hair. And I like that the drying time doesn't take forever like some other gels do. It's a keeper!
This is the first gel I have ever bought, because my hair recently got really bad surface frizz. I use this with Rocking Ringlets btw. At first it didn't do much for my frizz, but then I used the Smasters Method and forgot a step, but it worked a lot better, even though my frizz isn't totally gone. I think I need a serum or oil to go with it. But island fantasy smells AMAZING! It also weighs down my hair by the second day. So its not doing that much.
No matter what I put under this, I get shiny three-day curls. I'm very pleasantly surprised and will definitely have to get more.
So far so good. I don't have a full sized bottle of this product, but I did try a sample size. I'm going to be honest, I am no gel expert, and when I cirst felt how runny and liquidy this product felt I was afraid that it wouldn't provide enough hold for my 4a curls. I used it for a braidout, and I loved how uzing just a small amount of the product leaves your hair feeling smooth. While I was applying it, I could be rest assured that the product got from roots to end, because it just saturated the whole section, as if on contact it melted throughout the length of my locks. In terms of hold? Well, while using this product I was able to achieve my first defined braidout with almost no frizz! I am so happy that Jessicurl offers samples, necause otherwise I would have assumed that it wasn't for 4 type girls! I will definetely be purchasing a bottle of this stuf the next time I go to target!
I have 3c hair. I love this gel in combo with the too shea conditioner as a leave in. My hair is normally dry. This set keeps my hair smooth and silky to the touch with the perfect amount of hold. I'm so happy that I gave this a try. I dont even know what made me try this because I would have never thought these products would work for my hair type, but I'm in love. It makes me want to do my hair more often.
At first I really loved how it didn't flake on me, and smelled AMAZING in comparison to my old gel. But now after about a weeks use, I noticed that my bangs (the place where I primarily applied this gel) are soooooo thin and loose compared to the rest of my curls. I'm so afraid about what that means and wonder if this is thinning out my hair. Btw I haven't straightened my hair once since I started using the gel. :/
Loved this gel. I didn't realize that it has a creamy texture to it which was a pleasant surprise! I washed my hair with Devacurl nopoo and then conditioned with Suave Naturals coconut which I also use as a leave in. Then I blotted my hair so it wasn't dripping with a tshirt and put in 3 pumps of Devacurl FFVF then I sealed it up with the Spiralicious Gel. I diffused it to about 85% dry and I got great curls! I only gave it 4 stars because it didn't rinse out as well as I would have liked, but I will try it again, maybe it was just a fluke.
I bought this thinking it would be a step up from Rockin' Ringlets, but was disappointed. After three or four uses, using different amounts to try and make it work, I shoved it under my sink and ordered more of my old product. My curls had less umph and more ewwy-stickyness-lankness than ever before. Would not recommend unless you have much thicker hair that can handle it.
I received a sample of this in the mail and decided to try it in place of the gel I normally use when doing my twist outs, because I love some of Jessicurl's other products. When I took out my twists the next day, they were extremely defined, which was fantastic, but the gel turned white all in my hair and it didn't look very good. I had to let my super defined twist out go and wash my hair all over again. I will not be using this product again.
Hair type actually 3c-4a. Thick and low porosity. I have finally found a replacement for my beloved UFD curly magic. I used this on top of Bee mine deep conditioner as a leave in. My curls were elongated and defined with no frizz. So excited to have a good hair day. Will be stocking up on my Spiralicious and revisiting some more Jessicurl products.
Works great with my curls. I have great definition and all-over curls without "flat areas". Definitely doesn't weigh down my curls. Plays well with my other products. At first I didn't use it on very wet hair, but after reading other reviews (and the instructions on the bottle), I retried and love it! I just crunch out any stiffness once my hair dries. I have only used with other leave ins, but will try alone soon.....
I'm updating my review because I've been using this now for 3 months, and am on my 2nd bottle. It very quickly became my go-to HG gel. It works with every LI I've tried, although I usually use JC Too Shea, or CJ Curl Rehab. It plays well with all other products. I've used it alone, or cocktailed with another product underneath. Every time, I get soft, clumpy curls with no frizz! The amount of crunch isn't crazy like other hard hold gels, but it holds the curls firm as if it were a hard hold super crunchy gel. I don't even have to SOTC, I just run my hands over my hair like I'm going to put it in a ponytail, and voila! No crunch. It seems to also help hold the moisture in my hair; I don't get frizzy ends by the end of the day. For anyone scared of the polyquats, I have had ZERO build up, and I use this at least a couple times a week and mainly cowash. This is just different from every other gel out there and I have at least 20 gels in my stash, so I know! Order a bottle and try it!
Love this gel! It really defines my curls. Any crunch easily shakes out and my curls look great! May be my new favorite gel!!!
This is my new HG gel, seriously! I have a love/hate relationship with gels. I've had a really hard time finding one that I like. I live in a very very dry climate and I find most gels just dry out my hair really bad, but not this one. It has great hold and I feel like it accentuates my curls very nicely. I chose the citrus lavender scent, which is very nice and fresh, but fades and does not stay in the hair. It leaves my hair moisturized but with hold! That's all I've been looking for in a gel, finally! Thank you Jessicurl! My one and only complaint about this gel is if you use to much product or get heavy handed, as you are scrunching out the crunch that you get some white residue on the over gelled sections of hair. This problem can be avoided once you figure out how much to use, I also notice this problem doesn't happen if you use the product on really wet hair. I tend to go overboard with products when I first try them out, so I wasn't super surprised. That is seriously the only complaint I have with this product and its so minimal I will definitely be repurchasing!
More 3A--love the JC line--best shampoo and cond. for me--gentle lather and Aloeba. Have been using CK coil jam with these--received a sample of this and I am not disappointed. A bit difficult to figure out the right amount but it is worth trying--very good hold, minimum frizz, great island fantasy fragrance. Love JC.
LOVE LOVE LOVE this product. It allows my curls to absolutely shine and is the perfect leave-in conditioner/gel for me. Has the right amount of slippage and does not flatten my hair. My new go-to product. Thanks Jessi for creating something just great.
type 3A--I really like this gel. . Pros are nice hold--not too crunchy, minimal frizz, at least 4 good hair days for me. Cons are very thin consistency makes it hard for me to determine correct amount to use--I'm still experimenting. My first choice for a gel is still the Curly Kinks Coil Jam, but this is an acceptable runner up. Definitely recommend other curly girls to try.
I want to give this 5 stars, but it is too inconsistent. On good days this stuff is GREAT, but the other half of the time it's merely 'meh.' I've tried Jessicurl products on and off for about 7 years, and I always ended up disappointed because they left my hair flat, with white flakes, and not enough hold. The pros were shine and curl formation. Pros of this gel: hold, shine, and frizz control (I live in south FL, so that's impressive). Cons: I purchased Gelebration Spray because this gel took some of the curl out of my hair, still see white flakes when I scrunch out the crunch, and the bad/flat days mentioned above. My hair is thin, loves product, and has 2C/3A loose waves/curls. The white flakes are probably because I have to use so much to get the best results. In the end I ordered another bottle because I like the touchability and shine I get. My other mainstay product, Mop C-Curl Cream was starting to build up too much and lacked that softness.
This gel was awesome on rainy, drizzly days or any time that I needed consistent hold all day. The shine was very good as well. I prefer chunkier definition while this gave me skinnier clumps, but they did feel soft. I also found performed it better in soaking wet hair, just like the directions suggested.
Love this product! It is my new go to. The first day I used this product alone it was windy and it was drizzling all day. This product stood up to the weather and my hair did not frizz at all! I do prefer to pair it with rockin ringlets although you do not have to.
I am on my second order and still loving this gel. I am getting second day hair on a regular basis, even on rainy days! The product reactivates with water and still gives great control. So pleased :)
This is my new holy grail gel. I find that it works better for my hair than CIAB and I love the fact that it is thick in consistency so you don't need to use a lot. It also plays well with my leave in conditioner so there were no residue issues because it just melted into the conditioner. But what I love the most is that it elongated my tight curls into cascading ringlets. It also clumps the curls nicely and I don't see any frizz in sight on this windy rainy day. I love this gel and plan to stock up on this for the winter.
This is okay, but I still haven't found a star product yet in most recent order for styling products.
I ordered a sample of this (and will be ordering a full size bottle as soon as it's back in stock!) and I was very impressed. I only had to use a little compared to the amount of gel I normally use. I had amazing definition, NO frizz (a miracle for my hair!), awesome clumping, and nice shine! It was an all around winner. Even more amazingly, my clumps were still intact on day 2! Didn't even need to add anything- just fluffed and walked out the door. Normally in the morning, I am a frizzy mess, forget about clumps staying in overnight! Overall, great gel!
this gel in incredible. i did like confident coils however i wished it was stronger. i used this and for the first time my day 1 hair wasn't puffy or fluffy. there was shine, good curl definition and minimal frizz! i couldn't stop staring at my hair. the crazy part is after refreshing with the awe inspiraling spray, my day 2 hair was even better! the least amount of frizz and most shine my hair has had in a while!
Love love love this new gel! I have short 3a hair, and I admit I probably used a little too much product the first couple of times. A little goes a long way. It comes out white and creamy looking, but you can feel the thickness of the product in your hands. Using the Spiralicious in combination with Rocking Ringlets has given me the best curls my head has seen in a long, long time! I get great clumping when I let it air dry, with hardly any frizz (which is a MIRACLE because I am a frizz magnet). It does tend to set into a crunchy cast, but that's nothing new to many curlies. Just crunch it out once my hair is dry and I have soft, bouyant curls. Also- I love the citrus lavender scent. In my hair, it lingers just a little bit to get a hint of lavendar when I shake my hair throughout the day. I can't wait to get my hands on a larger size of this product!
Love this gel! I have a mix of 3c/3b with a tiny touch of 3a and I am getting same as or better results as I was getting with two products (confident coils and gelebration) and with minimal to no frizz. Scrunches out nicely and my hair is so soft but holds up all day. Still playing around with the amount needed because I think I was too heavy handed first couple times and you really don't need need to put it on heavily. The gel has a nice consistency. Not too sticky or slimy like some gels are. Distributes nicely. Quickly becoming my favorite gel. Love Jessicurl!
This is an incredible gel - great frizz control, excellent definition and gorgeous curls galore! But when I actually got second day hair for the first time in my life, I was euphoric. THANK YOU, JESSICURL! I already use the entire line, but this has to be the best product yet. I am one happy customer!
I used this product for the first time today and all I can say is WOW! I love it. It has great hold, lots of volume. I used it alone today to see how it works by itself and I don't think I need any other products with it.
Okay, I have really long, fine and super super super thick 3a/3b hair. I participated in the testing of this product before it was revealed. I still have product left in my teeny tiny test tube after several months (that is with waist length hair almost), and I am still using it. On my hair, this product goes forever! I knew that as soon as it was revealed I would buy it, so I did THAT DAY (yesterday). Now I'm dying for it to get here. You should try this product, I am so picky, and I just love it. The consistency is really neat and not super sticky, sort of like a lotion but stronger. This is only the second styling product in two years that has made the cut for being a regular part of my hair care regimen. I use it by itself without having to layer. Try this...no, I am NOT being paid to say this!! ;) I just like to help out my fellow curlies!
