My hair is dark brown/nearly black. I have used two shades (Venezia brown and Positano black) that Madison Reed has recommended (once per their online service and once per a dazed and confused customer service consultation) and so far have had poor results. I am about 20% gray, and despite my soaking the gray areas in color and leaving on for the full amount of time, the color fades very quickly. I even went without product in my hair all day (hasn't happened since 1990) to ensure that the color would take. Three days later, I have huge spots of gray showing through. And to top it off, the color on my non-gray hair is definitely brown, and does not nearly match at all. Also tried the gloss and was not impressed. Didn't do much for color; shine was boosted a bit (I love salon gloss treatments). Packaging is great. Received the products on time. Really wanted to like this product; not sure if I will try again and I definitely don't recommend for coarse gray hair coverage.
After chemo my hair grew back very curly and completely grey - I used Madison reed medium brown - my hair came out light brown and after a dozen shampoos turned blonde - I then colored it with Madison reed medium brown a second time thinking that because my hair was totally grey a second application might be needed - again the color came out light brown - totally disappointed - I will not use Madison reed again - it does not cover grey
I had natural hair. Neutral color. Not ash but not very warm. I've been told that I'm somewhere between at level 5 and level 6 but closer to a level 6. I told the "consultant" that I wanted to suppress some warm tones that the California sun was causing. She suggested Lucca Light Brown and it made my hair a light orange brown. They sent me Veneto Light Brown to try to neutralize the red and it made my hair darker and more of a deep copper red. Some areas look a little more green, where the I guess the ash tone was trying to fight the red. I do not recommend this product if you want to avoid brassiness. It did not really cover my gray effectively and I have less than 5% gray. Also, I don't think their consultants are all actually colorists, based on several conversations. Very disappointed.
their packaging and box of products is top notch. I love the two sets of gloves and the cap while you wait. This process at home was very simple and fast. I used a dark color to cover my gray roots and it worked great. Not to mention, my hair is shiney and looking healthy even after the home color treatment. i will definitely be trying this again.
This hair color worked well on my dark, already-colored afro-textured hair. I dyed my hair a shade of red using a different $6 off-the-shelf brand (permanent color) about a month before using Madison Reed's shade of red. Madison Reed covered my grays much more effectively than the other brand, and it made my red more vibrant. Their customer service is superb! You can get your questions answered live via online chat. They also called me after I received my order just to make sure everything looked okay, and to see if I had any questions. The box with illustrated instructions makes it simple for coloring newbies. The product smells great. It didn't damage my hair, as far as I can tell. The only thing that would make the experience better would be to have examples on their website of what it would look like on afro or very curly textured hair. All and all, great experience. You can find a video review and see the results on my YT channel ShoniFreeman.
First and foremost, their customer service is top notch!!! Sadly, the color had no effect on my curls. As soon as the company realized I had issues with the color, they contacted me and attempted to satisfy me. Their was so professionally packaged and it was not harsh on my hair at all. I can see this color being super effective for going dark or covering grays. If you are in the market for something for either one of those thing, this is the product to try.
LOVE this color! Love how they've created a whole experience, from finding the right shade to application. I feel like I found gold because I don't have to spend $100-plus at a salon anymore. It's been really hard to find a shade that doesn't look like "that girl must color her hair at home." But I actually got a compliment from my stylist about the color last time I was in for a cut. I want to experiment with other shades - some of the red shades - to see what kind of results I get. I'm not usually one to experiment because of bad experiences in the past, but I feel like I could do that with Madison Reed. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
Best at-home color I've tried. In addition to providing great grey coverage, I felt like they really helped me find the right shade (Milano Brown). I have an issue that my hair can look too dark with some colors, but the online tool really helps you zero in on the right shade. I always feel like it's a crap shoot with most at-home colors. The other thing I love is all the little details they thought of - detailed directions, quality gloves, great shampoo and conditioner. I felt like I got salon quality color at home.
I really like the outcome of the hair color. I chose a brown shade which brought out some red coloring as well. It is softer with the shampoo and conditioner provided. It was easy to mix and apply too. The packaging was amazing ! I would definitely purchase this product and suggest others to try it.
When I went on the web site I was a little bit intimidates because there is a lot to choose from and when you don't color your hair much it is hard to choose. Once I found the hair cold I liked the process was very easy. The shipping was fast and the packaging was nothing I would have ever expected. Everything was not just written out for me but it was labeled and clearly pictured on the box. I found the color easy to apply and the color pay off is what I was looking for. After about 2 weeks I was even give a reminder if I wanted to get the same color for retouch which I thought was a good touch. My hair was soft, shiny and I feel that I got the color that I was looking for. I would repurchase this product again I also like that you can ask then to send you the product automatically every month. I was sent this product from natuallycurly.com, I was not paid for my review but I was asked to give my honest opinion.
I actually like that fact the hair color does not have the harsh chemicals that are in other hair dyes that are out on the market. The packaging is well thought out. The instructions are very east to follow. However, my hair is naturally very dark brown, almost black looking. So, I new my options were limited with color ( since I will not bleach my hair!) and so I picked Palermo Brown with aubergine in hopes to get another dimension to my dark hair like in the pictures that were displayed. Well, in true fashion nothing happened except my hair looks the same but not it is all shiny! So, if you want to get this color have a medium brown hair. Excellent concept thought!
The packaging was really nice. Comes with everything u need. I chose theTRIESTE RED - 5NRM. I wanted a subtle color with some red and to cover my gray hair in the front. I was pleased that the application was easy. The shampoo and conditioner was moisturizing. The results was what I loved the most about the system. OK so I was expecting to have slightly red hair but nope. I was left with a deeper brown which I liked because it looked so natural. The first thing I looked for was how my grays took to the dye. WHAT GRAY HAIRS? Couldn't find them! As my hair dried I started to see these vibrant red strands, where my gray hairs were. I Loved it. When I say vibrant they looked very rich in color but natural. I highly recommend this luxury color system, you will not be disappointed.
Great packaging and detailed instructions. Excellent customer service to help you through the process. Gentle and easy at-home coloring. Barrier creme and cleansing wipes super helpful Not as messy as other at-home coloring systems. There was a slight stinging toward the end of the allotted time and a slight chemical smell that went away after two washes. Didn't lift my roots as much as I would have liked (I've been growing out highlights for at least 2 years). All of that aside, the color deposited on my ends is a lovely natural-looking rich brown with violet undertones. My hair doesn't feel like it has undergone a harsh chemical process, like it usually does, and it is super moisturized. I would use Madison Reed Hair Color again.
