So I came here & read the reviews which left me with mixed emotions, but just as no 2 humans alike, experiences & opinions vary. I purchased the system & kept it for a few days. Finally (just about fed w/my previous do) I opened the box. I followed thee instructions up until the leave-in which instructs 20mins. I left it for about 35-40mins (wasn't even intentional lol). When it was time to dry...WHOA!! Instead of the tad bit course mane I've previously achieved, it was now soft & fluffy. I procedeed to flat iron on a low setting using the chase method...AWED!! With just one passing of the flat iron, I was looking at silky strands of hair!! NO frizz. Just shiny straight hair!! I immediately sent a pic of the box to my Sister as well as one of my hair. Her reply: I'm going to Walgreens now!! I would definitely recommend this product & will definitely use it again!!!!!
(caribbean woman WEST INDIES )hi, I have 4A hair I've tried this product in December...I followed all the step ..the shampoo stripped my hair when i put the conditioner, I didn't put much product into my hair. After waiting 20 minutes I went ahead and blow dry it....Yes it came out how I expected it to be but when I FLAT IRON it ...it came out silky and smooth but then...20minutes later it came back frizzy stupes I got sooo angry. Maybe it's because I live in the Caribbean. YEt Beautiful Textures says it fights against Humidity????? after three weeks I went ahead n washed my hair and I had a soo many spit ends and also my hair broke ......sigh
I can honestly give this five curls! After staying away from heat for a little over a year I decided to flat iron my hair for Prom this passed May. I picked up this product about a month before the event to do some real research and assure myself that my curls would actually bounce back after I was ready to wash out the treatment. I was satisfied with what I found, that the conditioner was just a keratin amino acid treatment that would bond to my hair and help keep it straight. Great! No damage! I needed my hair to stay nice a sleek for the entire day because I was also putting in some straight clip in extensions from Bellami Hair so it needed to blend. Anyways, I went to the salon and had them do the treatment and the flat iron results were amazing! My hair blended perfectly with the extensions! Now fast forward to prom: first of all it was misting outside and I had nothing to cover my head with but my hair still stayed straight. I was also sweating a bit at prom from dancing and my hair still stayed straight. The humidity that day was also ridiculous after the rain and my hair still stayed straight! A huge difference from the poof ball mess I usually get when I flat iron my hair without this product. A week later I decided to use the maintenance system (the shampoo and conditioner that comes with the product) and my hair looked really weird. It looked like it was heat damaged to be honest. I was a bit worried but I read that the treatment "forces" your hair straight so I trusted that was that. I went and flat ironed my hair again for a concert with the same results, super sleek and blended great with the clip ins. Only this time I was sweating A LOT at the concert and my roots poofed up BUT still not as badly as they would have w/o the treatment. Yesterday I decided I had enough of the straight hair as it is now summer and straight hair is just too hot, I washed twice with Mixed Chicks shampoo and my curls came back! In fact even tighter and more curly than before..I believe the treatment actually repaired my hair to some extent. Anyways, I see a lot of people dogging this product saying it's a perm and they don't trust it but I've used it and love the results. Your curls WILL COME BACK!
I have very thick 4c hair that typically reverts back when I straighten it even when utilizing the Chase method with my flat iron. I love this product to straighten my hair naturally. The key is to follow the directions exactly, too many times people will add in their own products or alter the order of the steps but if you follow the directions it will work. I was a little nervous because the shampoo truly dried out my hair but when I put in the leave in the key is to comb your hair about every 5 minutes during the process period. And honestly the amount of leave in conditioner is more than enough for 2-3 applications. Seriously less is more. I parted my hair into 6 sections for ease of application and for ease of blow drying. And combing your hair during the waiting period allows your hair to be evenly coated. When you wash your hair with the products you can use the conditioner as a leave in - based on the packaging directions. I am currently 2 1/2 weeks out and I still get the same results as the initial day I used the product. Of course the next times that I straightened I used a heat protectant. However the first time you use the system, it has to be understood, the treatment is heat activated. Only take pieces of hair about 1-1 1/2 inches and run your flat iron over it once, detangle and comb the piece, and then flat iron it again this time using the chase method. This is the first time since I cut out relaxers that my hair has been this straight without reversion. I will say that Shea moisture also came out with a straightening system I will try it out after I wash out this treatment, but I would definitely recommend it to my 4C thick haired sisters. As long as you don't deviate from the directions on the initial treatment.
I have 3A curls that are very kinky from the root around my face. I read the directions very carefully to make sure I followed the steps correctly - IT WAS SO EASY! In fact I was able to do the entire process in an hour before work. I shampooed my hair 3 times with the shampoo provided. Then I put the leave in conditioner and have it sit in my hair while I did my make-up and ate breakfast (no burning or itching), then I blow dried and straightened. I a leaving tonight for a beach vacation, so being near the ocean where my hair is usually a frizzy mess will be the big test. I will come back and review after my first wash. So far. so good! Sometimes it's nice to mix up my hair style :).
I have very curly hair, it had been in its curly state for 5 - 6 weeks before I used the system. usually, when I haven't straightened my hair in a long time, it takes a lot to get my hair very straight and unfortunately, this product didn't make my hair straight AND frizz free like it claims to when I used it. in fact, my hair frizzed up in a matter of hours. I will say that there was a good deal of humidity at the time I tried this product but I didn't think it would frizz up as fast as it did. I had to re-straighten my hair over and over which would last for awhile but eventually it would begin to frizz up. I used the anti-reversion shampoo and conditioner (the products that maintain the systems straightening quality) but my hair never became very straight or frizz free. when I initially used it, I didn't feel comfortable flat ironing my hair with just the leave in conditioner that the system provided so I used a heat protector and serum that I usually use when I flat iron my hair so I did have to stray away from the systems instructions slightly. in the whole time that I was testing this product, my ends never straightened. I definitely think that this is an excellent product for people transitioning from relaxed/permed hair to natural hair so that they can avoid having to chemically straighten their new growth but I just didn't have success with this product.
I absolutely HATE straightening my hair, so anything that could help ease the process is very much appreciated. I'm not really a huge fan of "systems" per se, but I thought I would give this a try. The shampoo and conditioner come in small bottles made for one use. The shampoo I didn't use all of, but the conditioner didn't have enough. The shampoo got my hair clean, but stripped every little bit of moisture I had away. I put the conditioner in and there definitely wasn't enough to coat all of my hair so I had to improvise with some of my personal conditioner. Straightening was a little bit easier than what I'm used to but not enough to make me buy this product =/
I couldn't wait to remove my sew in to give this a try. I'm grateful that it didn't disappoint. The product was as easy as shampooing. My curls go back to normal in between. Working out and keeping straight hair didn't happen. But overall the product was ok because it didn't make it difficult to get back to my curls. Glad I took a chance on trying this product.
I was able to review this product from NaturallyCurly. I was excited and skepti cal, but really wanted it to work well for my thick 4a hair that has only been straightened twice in 4 years. The directions were easy to follow and I was eager to get to straight, flowing hair. I didn't like the stickiness of the leave in or the way my hair felt with this product. Normally my hair is soft when moisturized. Overall, my hair was straight and stayed that way until I washed it. I will definitely try this product again since it did not alter my natural curl pattern.
I tried it and it was ok ..I actually washed it out quickly... I feel as if there are one too many "safe" chemicals in the product for my liking.. I couldnt help but feel this was some sort of perm not just a product
I actually have two of these systems. One I was sent by Naturally Curly to review, the other I received in my monthly subscription OnyxBox. I tried TMS a few weeks ago and my experience was ok -- not good, not bad, but just ok. The shampoo was OK, it was designed to clarify and prep the hair to receive the leave-in which is why I think the end result was my hair feeling stripped after cleansing. The leave-in had tons of slip, and spread easily throughout the hair. But as it dried, my hair felt stiff, somewhat sticky, and coated. I may have used too much leave-in -- I used about 80% of the small bottle on my thick, MBL hair. Even though I had detangled thoroughly prior to washing and while deep conditioning (I threw my own deep conditioner in the process, so as to protect my hair from heat and to better retain moisture), the leave-in made my hair feel tangled and shrunken. It did not make the blowdrying process any easier -- although I did notice that my blowout was straighter than normal afterwards. It still had that somewhat coated feeling, although it dissipated to a degree when I applied a serum-style heat protectant and flat ironed. My hair was straight and had a lot of movement at first, but as the days wore on it definitely reverted to a poofier version of my flat ironed hair. I was expecting that super sleek look, but that may be because I didn't push my heat past 400, or because I am not as adept at flat ironing technique as some of the professional stylists I saw use TMS. After I washed my hair, I noticed that my hair felt very smooth and my curl pattern was loosened. It took me about 3 wash days with a sulfate shampoo to get my hair 100% back to normal. I have ironed out all the details of my reversion on www.maneobjective.com. Overall, I give the system a 3. It was cool, and maybe with some professional help I'd try it again. I wasn't a huge fan of the curl loosening, because I enjoy the volume I get with my type 3B/C hair. But it did make for super drama-free detangling sessions and wash days!
I was sent this product for review, and was very excited to try it because although I love my curls, I do like to straighten my hair from time to time as well. I was hoping this product would make it easier for me to straighten my hair when i wanted to, but also defrizz my curls a bit when I wanted to leave my hair natural. For me, this product was similar to other boxed 30 day keratin treatments I'd tried in the past. The shampoo that came with the kit made my hair squeaky clean; literally my hair made squeaking sounds while I was washing it, which I did not like because that means my hair was drying out. The conditioner that came with the kit was a thinner consistency that I did not think would give my hair much moisture, and I was right. I was able to detangle my hair, but with a bit more effort than with my usual (thicker) conditioner. I did notice a lot more fallout during the detangling process. The process of blowdrying my hair took longer than usual for me, due to the gooey feeling of the treatment, even though I did not oversaturate my hair. The straightening result was slightly better than usual, but my hair felt very sticky. The flatironing part also took longer than usual because I saw more residue on my iron and had to go over some sections more often (not good). When I do a normal flatiron routine, I can get away with 5-7 days before my hair looks really stringy and I have to wash it. With this kit, I made it about 3 days before my hair looked gross, though it did retain the straightness. When I next washed my hair, I let it air dry and noticed the curls were looser, but still frizzy on the top of my head and my ends were a lot more dry. My hair looked more stringy and limp overall, and felt a lot more dry than usual (which I was hoping to avoid with this treatment). After two days, I once again washed my hair, but decided to go ahead with my normal blowdry and flatiron routine to see if this kit cut down any time and effort. It did not. My hair took just as long to blowdry as usual, but was a lot more limp than usual as well. Flatironing still took longer, as I had to go over some sections more than twice (usually I go over a section once, and I'm done), and the end result was extremely flat and stringy hair, which is not how my hair looks with my normal routine. I have been blowdrying and flatironing my hair periodically for about 15 years now, and I have my technique down pat, but this kit did nothing to cut down time or make my hair look any better than usual. In fact, my hair had less bounce, and cut down my time between shampooing by a few days at least. After a few more times of washing and letting my hair air dry, I used the shampoo to wash the formula out of my hair. My curls came back slightly more than while the formula was in my hair, but the ends are still very dry, and my curl pattern has not fully returned yet (another thing I was worried about before trying this). Hopefully my curls return to normal soon. I will not be purchasing this product again, but I think it might work well enough for those who do not worry about their hair being dry, and who are willing to commit a couple months to having a looser texture to their hair (if they want to revert to their natural texture).
I tried this system on my 10 year old sister. Prior to this, I had never been really good at straightening natural hair.(I'm natural as well) Recently, I've mastered my technique to achieve bouncy, shiny and super straight hair. I had never tried my new technique on my sister, so doing this system was also going to be a trial for my new technique. The results turned out great; super bouncy, shiny and very straight. I'm torn between whether it was the new technique, or this straightening system. My hair gets just as straight as her hair with this system, so I don't think this system completely transformed her hair, but it was a lot softer than mine. (so I do believe it added softness.) I have yet to get her to go back to curly because she's too in love with her straight hair now! I believe this is perfect for anyone who loves to wear their hair straight but doesn't want their curls to be completely altered. This allows you to go longer without having to touch up your hair with heat. My sisters hair lasted almost two weeks, but I did have to touch it up twice. Hope this review was helpful to anyone! :)
I was pleased with the end result of this product. However, due to sweating in my hair from working out three times a week, the straight bouncy look didn't last as long as I would have liked it to. My hair did revert back to its natural texture when all said and done. I am curious to try it again during a week that I don't work out just to see if there is a significant difference in how long my straight hair lasts. Thank you again for the opportunity try this product.
Teaching Zumba 4-5 times a week gives me very few chances to wear my hair "straight" without it looking like a hot mess after class so I was excited to try this product so that my blowout could last longer than 1 day and 1 class. I have 3B hair that responds very well to flat ironing without any product, but any hint of moisture will cause it to revert instantly. I liked the idea that this product would allow me to bounce back and forth between my natural hair and make the blow drying/flat ironing process last a little longer. My 1st recommendation is if you have to contact this company with any questions do it very early in the day and expect to be on hold for a VERY long time and most likely disconnected. If you call on the weekend, expect to not speak to anyone. I never did have my questions answered, like how long do I have to wait before I could wash my hair. Now, about the product, the shampoo was ok. It had a pleasant smell and it acted like a clarifying shampoo. The directions say to not use too much of the leave in conditioner and that your hair will feel like it has a residue, but that will go away during the blow drying and flat ironing process. After the 20 minute wait I started the drying process and it seemed like I had goo in my hair. It took FOREVER to blow dry and didn't look any shinier or smoother. The flat ironing process went as normal, but I still felt like I had a lot of "residue" in my hair when I finished. My hair looked far better with just a regular flat ironing than it did after using this product. After a few hours, I couldn't take the gooey feeling and decided to wash my hair with the enclosed shampoo and conditioner. I was a little nervous about my texture being altered and was pleasantly surprised that my curls bounced right back. What I did like about the product, was that it cut down the amount of products I have to put in my hair to keep it from frizzing when just letting it air dry. So the moral of the story is, give it a try and you may be pleased with the blow dry and flat iron outcome without fear of loosing your curls in the end.
I was so excited to try this product. I've been wanting to straighten my hair for the longest and was so scared, so when I heard about this product I jumped at the opportunity. I had tried to straighten my hair before, but it was a fail. I have 3b hair, and it is also very thick. This product did not agree with my hair. It's not to say that it is a bad product, but my hair didn't like it. I loved the shampoo. My hair felt so very clean. The conditioner didn't have a lot of slip to it, which I'm accustomed to, and my hair didn't straighten as much as I would have liked. My hair looked a bushy mess. So after a day or so, I washed it out and reverted back to my curls. I think everyone should at least try the product because as we all know, we all have different hair. Try it out for yourself. If you don't like the results, you can just wash your hair again and revert back to your curls.
I was offered the chance to try this product and jumped at the chance! It was exciting to think of being able to go from curly to straight without a permanent change. I was a little nervous because I've never used any sort of relaxer and I stopped heat-styling my hair about 10 years ago. But I'm so glad I gave Beautiful Textures a try! The shampoo has a nice scent but it left my hair feeling a little dry. The conditioner was not what I expected at all. I use a huge glob of thick, deep conditioner every time I shampoo, so the thin, watery consistency made me nervous. However, the conditioner was more effective than I expected and I was able to get my comb through. My hair looked really frizzy after blow drying, and it felt a lot stickier than I was comfortable with. After flat ironing it was not as smooth and flat as I had hoped, but that could be due to my lack of proficiency with the flat iron. Once I washed it out 2 days later, my hair seemed not quite as curly as before, so the results are truly temporary. On the whole I would recommend it as a gentler, non-permanent straightening method but I don't think I would use it again.
I was given to opportunity to try this product by the awesome gals of this website. When I first heard of it, I have to say I had my doubts about it. It makes some really big claims and I was a little scared of using something that would damage/change the texture of my hair. I should mention I have type 3c/4a very frizzy, coily, curls. I have been natural for almost 4 years now and it's taken me just as much to finally achieve the results I wanted with my hair. The thought of using something that even slightly resembled a relaxer made me cringe. But I trusted the good judgement of the people who sent it to me and gave it a try. There's 4 products inside the package: the shampoo, the leave in conditioner and 2 packets of shampoo and conditioner that you're supposed to use if you want the effects to last longer. The shampoo has a light, pleasant scent and it leaves you hair squeaky clean, like ridiculously squeaky clean. Which made me panic a little bit at fist because as a curly gal you don't want to strip your hair of it's natural oils that much. The leave in conditioner is different. I was expecting a thick cream, but instead this product is very water and runny. To my surprise, it does make your hair very slick and helps with the detangling process in step 2. Now when it comes to straightening my hair, I have to admit I'm no expert. In fact, it's highly debatable whether I should even be allowed to use hot tools so close to my head. I'm clumsy and have no technique whatsoever when it comes to maneuvering the flat iron. My hair did feel sticky after I blow dryed it and still a little bit after I flat ironed it. I can't say it was silky soft, though. I honestly don't think this made it any easier for me to straighten my hair by myself (but then again I lack practice and I don't have the best tools for the job either). I think seasoned veterans in the art of flat ironing might have better results than I did. I still don't know how my hair will look like once I wash it, but I will definitely follow up and update this review once I find out. So in conclusion, Pros: not a relaxer; no harsh, stinky chemicals; light pleasant smell; you need very little product to coat your hair and although watery, the conditioner will give you enough slip to detangle your hair. Cons: The shampoo might make your hair feel too stripped and dry; the leave in conditioner might sting or burn slightly if you have sensitive skin so make sure you drape a towel on your shoulders to protect the exposed areas of your neck; the results are not as dramatic as it claims to be; the stickiness after you blow dry it might be an unpleasant feeling for some.
Followed the instructions to a tee. Stickiness was gone once I flat ironed. Fell in love with my hair again. My hair was so straight and flat, I was in straight hair heaven. Once I washed my hair, I was a happy lady again. Curls were a little looser, no frizz, softer. ....I have very porous, 3b, c-4a hair that is SUPER thick. Would definitely recommend this product and have plans to use it again!
I have 3c/4a hair and I must say it made my hair very curly during the conditioning part. But it did make my hair straight, but more like a fluffy poofy straight....It's not bad but I HATE the residue left behind on my hair. It left a filmy feeling which they said would go away after flat ironing. NOPE. It made my hair feel really dry and I don't think ill use this again.... But it was nice to see my hair straight for a change.....
I have 3c/4a hair so it is very thick. I followed the instructions to a T and the result was a big poody look that DID NOT lay flat whatsoever. It was "straight" I suppose but very huge and frizzy. Not what I wanted although I do like the big hair look. As the day progressed, my hair got frizzier and frizzier. I do not like this.
My hair is a very fine 3B/3C. I was nervous about using the product when I saw the ingredients. My hair tends to be pretty protein-sensitive. The system was very easy to use. The instructions were well-written and very thorough. I think that the product is fantastic, but it wasn't meant for my hair. My hair felt very draw and straw-like, which it usually does if I try to use a product with hydrolyzed proteins. If you're protein-sensitive, this probably wouldn't be great for your hair. If your hair does well with protein, then you should definitely give it a try!
I have very thick hair...very thick! My only gripe is the amount of product I need to use. Other than that I think it works well. I've missed wearing my hair straight and now I can, guilt free!
I love this product. I have never been able to wear my hair straight without a having a perm, because my 3c hair always frizzed. After applying the product and flat ironing I was able to wear it straight for 5 days before having to wash it again. Even while it was raining my hair didn't frizz or curl back up. I am so excited for the versatility this will provide. I haven't tried to go back curly but am sure I'll be pleased. I was so happy I even bought the product and did my daughters' hair. LOVE IT!!!!
I gave this product a 2 because the only thing that I liked was the softness and how easy it was to detangle my hair. When I first received this product I was so excited because I have been looking for a product that I could use to straighten my hair without using perms or other chemicals. I have been natural for 5 years now and I do not use heat on my hair and the thought of using a blow dryer and flat irons made my heart sank but I used the product anyway. I first applied the Cleansing Shampoo and right off the bat there was a little burning sensation or kind of a tingling then I let it lather and it stopped. I made sure that I washed it all out and it made my hair feel extremely dry, so I opened the leave in conditioner, (pause) I'm use to buying thick creamy conditioners this was the total opposite it was very runny like water almost. So I still applied it to my hair and detangled my hair and waited 20 minutes (I followed the instructions to a T). Then I blow Dried it. Once it was completely dry My hair felt very sticky and I hated that feeling and my hair was very dry and flaky, The instructions tell you "that you might feel a slight film on your hair at this time, but will go away after step 4 flat ironing". I then Flat Ironed it and yes it was straight but I just didn't like the feel that it gave my hair at all. I do not think that I will use this product again. It just wasn't for me. I am a 4A
This product was sent to review it. My hair reaches the bra and the leave in conditioner comes in a 1.25oz package, and the product is something less than that. Unfortunately I could not use in my hair, but I will give it to my sister who has a mini fro and I think the amount is enough for her. I liked that the instructions are easy to understand and the process is easy. The product smells good, but should provide a greater amount of leave in
This product is Awesome!!! I straighten my hair often, but this, by far has given me the best results with the least breakage. There are no weird odors or fumes. It's like a regular wash, blow dry and iron session, just much better results! My hair it straight from root to end and shiny! Love it! (3C)
