Using this product on dry hair, I found that I needed to be EXTREMELY light handed with it, as too much could easily cause it to just sit on my hair. I incorporated this into my routine whenever I needed to add some moisture and reduce frizz before a twist out. I liked the level of softness and reduce frizz from the product, but didn't like how it could very easily sit on my hair. I tend to stray away from butters, instead opting for creams and oils. This is a solid product and one I think most with thick hair that drinks up product might enjoy. If your hair is easily weighed down I'd consider passing on it.
My first try with this product was on wet hair. I combined it with the mousse! I was pleasently surprise to see that it didn't leave any residu and my hair was super define and moisturized! But it was also a bit oily! I had a heavy hand with the product. So when i tried it again i applied less product. Again super define hair and moisturized. What i like is that i don't need to reply any product for 3 to 4 days! Which is great! The texture is super thick but easy to work with. I was already familiar with the scent, since i already have the hair milk leave in conditionner, but i'm not a big fan of it! This is really what i don't like with those product.
I tested this product on damp and dry hair. I used it as a leave in to do a wash & go--big mistake for my 4c hair but I was feeling quite adventurous. It provided minimum slip initially but once it absorbed in my hair, I noticed I could finger detangle more easily. Once dried, my hair felt adequately moisturized and soft. I also used the styling butter for two strand twists and as a moisturizer. My hair felt moisturized and soft. My hair is thick and coarse so I was a little heavy handed when I applied the product . My hair loves a greasy environment so no complaints from me.
I gave this product 3 curls because I was slightly dissapointed. I just knew i was going to love this stuff but I didnt. First time I used it I did a cowash with the Hair Milk Cleasing Conditioner, applied a light leave in conditioner and got to styling. My hair was slightly damp as i used this styling butter followed by the styling foam. I did a twist out and I hated it. The first day my hair was flat, dry, crispy and dull. I did have a few curls that were soft and moisturized but the majority was lifeless. I thought day 2 would be better so I retwisted that night and applied a dime size of styling butter to each twist. The next morning was a little better but now my hair was greasy. Finally I gave it one last shot, the following week I did another twist out using just the butter alone, and my hair came out for the better without the foam but I have had so much better results with other styling butters products. I guess I just wanted this to work since it is Carols Daughter.
I like how this styling butter has a clean pleasant nice scent. I like how this product is really creamy. My hair had good curl definition. My hair felt very soft and moisturized. It felt too moisturized were my hair ended up feeling greasy. Also, my hands was left feeling greasy. Furthermore, I had used the styling foam after applying the styling butter which was a great combo because my hair had even better curl definition, fantastic hold, and lots of movement.
