I did not like the Curling Custard for styling my hair (I did a twistout, had some definition at first but slowly went away) but it was a great moisturizer that didn't bring out my natural pattern very much. I didn't mind the smell, there are definitely other products in this line that smell worse. I agree that it is more of a thick lotion than a curling custard. Combining it with the Triple Moisture Lotion really added to the moisture in my hair. Would not purchase again.
This product was waaaaay too watery for my hair. Even after trying to give hold to my twist by covering in the holding wax my twist out didn't last 2 days (I can typically get away with 7 day hair) so that tells you something.
This literally did NOTHING for my type 4 hair! It smells like Elmers glue and it felt like raking water through my hair. It left my hair feeling dry. Here's my review of the entire Ossat Naturals line. http://youtu.be/acXU08fjiH8
Watery consistency, it was ok, didn't seem to enhance my curl much. This product along with the lotion and gelly did not help to keep my hair moisturized and made it feel a tad crunchy.
Not impressed! This product, along with the the lotion, made my hair very very DRY!!! These products had a plant like smell and it also smelled like the pink bottle of RAID. My next day hair was dull, stiff, lifeless, just a H.A.M!!
The best word I can think of to describe this product is "womp." The consistency was thinned out and a little tacky/greasy... just like watered down Elmer's glue. It left a weird residue behind and felt as though it was just sitting on top of my hair, not penetrating or adding anything of substance to it. I also did not care for the smell, which similar to the shampoo in this line, made me wonder why or better yet HOW this passed inspection. Save your money and time. No need to try this one.
I wasnt impressed with the curling custard. It was thin and the hold was much too light. Not to mention it began to dry my hair some.
Super great product...I saw it as more of a moisturizer and not an actual styling product and for that reason I'm very pleased with it.
It has a pleasant smell, but to light for me.....weird, sticky texture. When applying it to my damp hair, it didn't seem to adhere, like it was evaporating. My twist out were too soft and my roots were spongy. No definition to be found. If I attempt to use this again, I may try to mix it with another product and hopefully have better results.
Again, with the scent. I have trouble getting past a smell I know will last on my hair. Anyways, the product looked promising and helped with moisture. For 2C hair, it'll require more experimenting for sure.
This product was not my favorite. It was a little drying and left my hair with a tacky feel.
HATED this along with the Moisture Lotion!!! I used them together for more moisture and they left little white balls in my hair! My hair felt sticky and plain ole DIRTY! I had to wash it out the very next day. Even while applying it, it felt weird on my hands. I saw the two products separating in my hands as I rubbed them together. I just assumed that they would mesh well together when on my hair. I will NEVER purchase this or the Lotion. On the bright side, it smelled really good. Which is why I was excited about trying it. Oh well!
I liked the lightness of this product. However, I only gave it one curl because it did not enhance my curls. Once my hair dried, my hair did not feel moisturized (even when used with the lotion).
The curling custard did not enhance my curls. It was moisturizing to my hair, but that's it. It is more of a thick lotion than a curling custard.
I actually like this product the best out of the entire line. It didn't define my twist outs, but it left them very moisturized and and I have super thick very dry hair. I also use this product as a daily moisturizer for my four-year-old daughter's hair.
I hated this product. I used this product after using the lotion as a leave in on clean hair, before I applied this product i have to note that my hair was soft and fluffly to where i could run my hands through my kinky curls. I knew i did not like this product as i was styling my hair just from the way it felt on my hands. My hands were dry, yet sticky at the same time. I kept going hoping the product would do its self justice once my hair dried. The next day, the take down of my twist was interesting, my hair was still sticky but the definition was great. The product was a bust for me as soon as i hit the door. My hair immediately lost all curl definition, turned into a dry shrunken fro, which in return for me equals knots and tangles.
I can not stand how this product smell. When I had first applied the curling custard to my hair, I liked how moisturized my hair felt. The moisture lasted for days. It gave me good curl definition, but at the same time my hair and hands was left feeling sticky. I do not like that this product shrinks up my hair because of the glycerin that is in it.
When putting the product on, it does not feel "slippery" enough for me. It leaves my hair soft and no frizz, but not heavy enough to give me big thick curls. I got no definition, just lots of thin straggly curls. Nice shine.
I had such high hopes for this product. When I applied it to damp hair, it smoothed and softened my hair instantly. It didn't leave my hair crunchy but it didn't impart any shine. When I rocked a twist out a couple of days later, it didn't last. I hardly had any definition as I unraveled my hair and that never happens. I end up using a paddle brush and rock a fro. My fro felt sticky and a little rough. I don't know what was the culprit...the moisturizer, oil, or custard. Hmm...
I wasn't too impressed with this product. The scent, well, it smells like paint. I can overlook smell if the product is decent, but this just didn't do anything for my hair. I used it with the shaping gelly for a twist out. I applied it first and it seemed to just take the moisture out of my hair. Alone this didn't provide any definition and my hair looked dry. Applying the Gelly seemed to add a little moisture and shine back to my hair. The twist out turned out good after drying, no flakes, not stiff and crunchy. I did notice my hair didn't seem really moisturized. The Twist out only lasted 2 days. The instructions say to use the Triple moisture lotion along with it for added moisture, which i will try next. I only gave it 1 curl because I've used the other products in this line and they seem to work well together or alone. Not so much with this one.
This product offered a bit of curl definition but no shine. The fragrance did not appeal to me.
Did not help my hair look very defined nor shiny, yet didn't smell as sickening as the co-wash. I have a possibility of giving this a second chance with another hair style.
I used this product on top of the Triple Moisture lotion, to help give my wash-and-go hair the weighted moisture it needed. It is thick and smells similar to the root and extract fragrance of the Moisture Mask, but not as strong. It helped give my short, kinky curls good definition and shine.
If you've read my other Ossat reviews you'll know that I use an entire product line in order to get a fair assessment and that I also have a 2-day process to get my look. But I happened to be able to use it before I washed my hair to finish out my week, and then again after I washed with the other products in this line. When I used it on my dry hair, the custard performed like my other twist cream--it set my two strand twists so that my twist out kept its shape BUT failed to keep throughout the day (full disclosure, my hair shrinks tremendously in the humidity and we've been experiencing very low humidity this past week). I figured that the Curling Custard deserved another try so I used the custard as part of my Day 2 hair regiment with other Ossat products. Day 2 for me is about setting my twists or braids after I've stretched the hair during Day 1. I need my twist cream/custard to handle the job of creating great twists and maintaining them throughout the day. Period. That's all. Because I re-twist every night (humidity is no joke) I only need the application to last one day and the curling custard did not. I lost my first day twist--even in the low humidity--but my hair was so soft and touchable. I'm thinking it would work better with someone whose hair isn't as effected by the elements as mine is. I'm giving it a 3 because my hair was so soft even without the shape!!
