I straighten my hair 1-2 times per month and have avoided major heat damage by taking great care and using minimal heat. I picked up this masque and decided to use it before straightening since I do a heavier protein treatment after straightening. This stuff made my hair feel so strong and protected! I noticed I had less frizz after blow drying and flat ironing as well. I've used this three times and have not encountered any dreaded heat damage that I can tell. AMAZING! (Took off one star because I prefer more slip in my deep conditioners)
I just finished this giant tub. I've used it as a 5 and 30 minute deep conditioner. My hair sits at my bellybutton. The top half is all natural no heat sulfates nothing, the ends have been dyed ironed blow dried etc. It tangles my ends to no end. Worse than when I stepped in the shower. It seems to do nothing really. For either end of my hair spectrum. It does feel smoother after it dries. Does nothing for me.
Had hight hopes based on ingredients, but for the most part disappointed. Used both as a 30 min deep-treatment and a 5 min quick rinse-out, results similar. Hair at first felt "heavy" in a good way while wet, like it had absorbed nutrients (I have fine hair and lots of it), but no slip, actually it got tangled. You will need to detangle with a LI if you use this. Hair did not feel any softer or smoother when dry. Did seem a bit shinier - that's the only reason it's not getting 1 star. Be aware this has keratin in it, which is a protein that strengthens hair but can result in dryness.
Shea Moisture and I have an on again off again relationship. Right now, we're back on, after much trial and error and better understanding of my hair. My hair needs protein, but doesn't play nice with oil unless it's an overnight prepoo. I use the Coconut Hibiscus milk as a rinse out conditioner from time to time. I decided to try this mask because I realized after a year of clay washing, my hair needed intense protein (more than what a CLCT was doing.) . I began my weekly wash routine yesterday. So after my oil prepoo last night, in the morning I rinsed out the coconut oil I used, and then did a clarifying wash (Come Clean). Followed that up with apHogee 2 minute reconstructor. Thoroughly rinsed and then applied this mask. My hair was soaking it up. It would go on smoothe with some slip, then quickly lose the slip because it was being absorbed. I was very heavy-handed with it and even reapplied to sections I knew needed more attention. I'm so glad I did! When I rinsed, my hair felt "good". It was soft and had strength. Then I did my usual 5 minute clay wash of ACV and bentonite clay to detangle and cleanse away any remaining ingredients that my curls don't like. I finished with a rinse and applied some gel (KCCC). My hair has never looked or felt better! I haven't given it a full rating because I'm waiting to see how my hair holds up the rest of the week. I am very glad I gave this a try and will definitely buy again. (This is not a treatment that will give amazing slip or curl definition. It's for strength, so I had to be patient with it and follow up with products in my routine that provide the slip and hydration that I'm looking for.)
This line is misunderstood. This line is geared towards those who straighten there hair alot. this products have ALOT of protein. if your hair is already strong and healthy dont use this line.
I like this masque better than the others SheaMoisture masques I've tried in the past. The smell is not bad and it did seem to help my hair after a clarifying treatment. I guess I'm not sure what masques are supposed to do because this is my 3rd shot and I'm not 100% In love with any of them. I will likely use this one again.
****Not all Shea Moisture products are created equal****. This product caused my hair to shed and left it tangled. The scent is VERY strong and sweet. While the Coconut and Hibiscus line does well on my 4a hair, I will not purchase from this Shea Moisture line again.
This didnt do it for me. There was no slip and it just sat on top of my hair. And my hair felt kind of hard and dry.
This is a great conditioner! I have discovered that my 2b hair needs much more moisture than I was giving it. Regular rinse-out conditioners from the SheaMoisture line just don't do enough for my hair. They work better as leave-ins. Instead, I shampoo with the SheaMoisture Coconut and Hibiscus (pink) line, and then I use this as a rinse-out conditioner every time. It leaves my curls so soft! I have found that other regular conditioners do not spread evenly through my hair and don't have enough slip. This product, on the other hand, coats amazingly! Granted, I do have to use a quite a bit of it, but my hair is thick and falls to the small of my back. I apply it all over, then put a shower cap on while I do everything else in the shower, then rinse out. Works like a charm! It is also versatile enough to use before I go naturally curly or before I use heat stylers.
This has been my most negative experience with an SM product yet. It is too thin, there is no slip with my hair, and after washing it out it was clear that my hair didn't take to it at all. I haven't had any success with the products in this line, however my sister has found this line to be a HG for her(4a and very fine) where as I have 3c that is thick and dry.
Really great masque. I have tried the shea version which did nothing for me but this was wonderful. Has a beach-y smell, melted right in and really softened my hair. I will buy again.
Love this! First time using it this morning and it absolutely helped moisture my 2c waves into the 3a curls that are hiding in there. My hair is super soft and all the curls have more definition. First masque I've ever tried and I am so excited by what it did for my hair. I wasn't moisturizing my hair enough when I had it long and after a big chop a couple weeks ago, I've really been working on adding more moisture. I cowashed (Suave coconut), combed this through, and then let it set for 30 minutes with a shower cap. After rinsing the DC, I used my regular wash out (Tresemme Naturals) and leave in/styler (SheaMoisture Smoothie). After plopping in a microfiber for a bit, I diffused the curls and added more Smoothie as needed.
I will never use this ever again!!!!!!!!. The product ruined my curl pattern and I had to cut off most of my hair as a result. I used this the week before i used the rinse out conditioner from the same line of sheamoisture. I then styled my hair normally with flex rods and my hair was just dry looking, a set would normally last me 10 days and the curl was gone in 3 days. I didn't know what was going on. when I washed my hair the curl was just limp, my hair never curled the same again. I wrote the company and they never responded. I even wrote on their Facebook page and still never got a response.
