Wasn't highly impressed by this product whatsoever. I saw absolutely no difference in my hair after using it.

I am 3b/3c hair, very thick and low porosity. Therefore, I get frizz very fast! I believe this product is better on dry hair which I loved. Most products, in order to 're-activate,' require water. I do not particularly like the smell, but other than that it works extremely well!

I don't really favor this as a refresher since it makes my coils shrink more than I would like and as a moisturizer, even a light one, it's really not moisturizing enough for my. I wish I had found the right way to use this for my hair, but I haven't yet. It may just work better for other hair types.

After using this stuff off and on for several months and trying it using different amounts, it always left my hair feeling like a sticky crunchy mess. I have fine thin naturally curly hair and will never purchase this again.

3c hair. I like this product very much. I spray it in my hands and crunch it through my hair. I do notice I have to diffuse it a bit before I go outside, otherwise my hair just ends up a big frizz ball. However, when it works, it works wonders.

Ok, I know a lot of you like this product however for me it did not work well. I have my hair cut and my stylist is a Deva Curl professional so I thought ok lets give this try...... Terrible left my hair sticky and hard had could not wait to wash it . I don't like feeling product in my hair that makes my hair feel dirty and this is exactly what " Set it free" did ... I wanted to be set free and wash this stuff out. Sorry Deva Curl just not for me..... I have fine hair but curls up pretty well no enhancer needed..

In conjunction with the AnGel, this stuff has done wonders for me over the dry winter. It clumps my curls together giving it great definition. I apply it when my hair is sopping wet, then apply AnGel and then use a t-shirt to lightly scrunch out extra moisture. This product does not work well on dry hair AT ALL. I give it 4 curls because of its limited ability. It doesn't seem to do much for my in the humid spring/summer or in conjunction with other gels.

This product is okay but nothing special. I have used it in to ways: 1. Applied on my hair soaking wet followed by the Arc Angel gel. -This gave me soft, defined shiny curls. 2. On dry hair a second day as a curl refresher. -This application gave me white flakes and buildup. For the price this product isn't really worth it. I have used better products for half the price. I will not repurchase this product in the future.

I have extremely fine curly hair. It's so fine when there is a piece on my arm I'm not sure if it's a cobweb or a strand of hair! THEN: I originally used this when my hair was DRY and BAD things happened! None of the curly girl pipe dream promises in the Deva product description occurred (hold, define, defrizz, hydrate). It somehow managed to do the complete opposite and actually left my hair in tiny knots. It wasn't a good look! NOW: I was about to recycle the full bottle when I figured I'd give it a whirl on soaking wet hair and wowza what a diff! It does a STELLAR job at hydrating/defrizzing & does NOT leave my hair crunchy. I use some Angel over it w/ great results. As if curly hair isn't high maintenance enough, I think we fine haired curlies have a shorter list of acceptable products because our hair is soo fine - but if you use this when your hair is soaking wet you'll have much better results. Hope you haven't already tossed your bottle! :)

This is ok. It's fine on wet hair but on dry hair it's sort of "meh". I mean it's alright but I have much better products. It does smell delicious though. I'll definitely use my bottle up on wet hair, because it makes it soft and shiny, but won't repurchase because it's nothing special.

This stuff is amazing! It smells like Skittles in a bottle, I can use it on wet and dry hair with no problem. On wet hair its moisturizing and curl enhancing, on dry hair it reduces frizz and adds shine while making the curls bouncier. I can't wait to try this stuff in high humidity, I think it will be perfect for that.

love it.!!! the smells a little intense but i've gotten used to it. i use this as a curl booster and love the small bottle size that I can carry with me on those humid days when my hair needs constant revival.

I though this would be great because it's one of the highest rated devacurl products on here, but it's not. On wet her it doesn't do anything at all. I suppose it's a little bit moisturizing but definitely not enough. On dry hair it doesn't refresh or remoisturize, it just makes my hair waxy and dirty feeling, even if I didn't use any other product. I guess I'll use it up on wet hair but it's pretty much just skittles scented water.

Love, love set it free! its keeps my curls well hydrated for days! It has truly changed my outlook on my curly hair.

If the entire Deva line were actors in a movie, this was Danny Glover in Lethal Weapon. All the other guys were playing bad cop, robo cop, and terminator, frying, tazing, and shellshocking my hair. This creme was a good sport, and relieved most of the dreading problem when only using this and One Condition. The only thing is that I don't think I was able to use this to it's full advantage for how much better my hair could be moisturized with an excellent conditioner. I had to apply this product twice a day - but it leaves me with superb 2nd, even 3rd day hair most times. It leaves my hair soft and touchable, but hard to detangle in the shower which I think is mostly a problem with One Condition. It gave me just the perfect spirals & waves I could ever want buuuut I could use a bit more shine. It didn't weigh my hair down terribly, I was able to leave clips at the roots of my hair for 15 minutes as it air dried & trusted that it wouldn't drop. This is also the best 2nd/3rd day curl refresher I've ever used. I also unscrew the spritz cap & pour a quarter size amount 3 different times as I scrunch my hair with it so it gets used up faster than it's intended I think.

I am definitely going to try what the previous reviewer did because I had the same experience with this stuff. Even on my wet hair, I used it after the ArcAngel gel, and it made my hair sort of frizzy and waxy. If you're still getting these results after using it, I would just recommend scrunching some One Condition after the gelling process. Either way, DevaCurl products ROCK!

First I hated this, now I love it. I first tried spritzing this on dry hair, and it made my curls feel awful, like they were waxy and dirty. Was about to give up on this product but then read the reviews out here and decided to try it BEFORE gel on soaking wet hair, and it works AMAZING! I put 3 spritzes into my palms then scrunch into soaking wet hair, and follow with Angel and my regular routine. Works GREAT - enhances curl, gives definition and clumping and great hold.

i thought it worked pretty good for what it says its suppose to do which is refresh you next day curls i used it and i liked it, i think it would work good for any curl type really, however i don't know if its important to mention that i used it on a next day braid out and not on my natural curl pattern just yet

didnt work with my daughters bi racial dry, frizzy, curls. her hair looks worse now then before. her hair is sticky feeling i think from the gel.

Set It Free seems like it was made for my 2c/3a very dry hair. It's 105 degrees here today and I spent the morning running around town doing errands with my daughter. When I got home my hair was the spitting image of Tina Turner's on her Private Dancer album in the mid-1980s. Tina can wear anything well...me, not so much. I spritzed my straw-like fuzz with Set It Free, scrunched. Instantly, my hair jumped into waves and curls, and it feels shockingly soft. It's not even clumping together, it's just sitting nicely, looking relatively sane. Set It Free gets my daughter's (Tina Jr.) hair in line right away too. Set It Free smells like lemon-lime punch, and I like it. I smell it only when I'm spraying my hair, though, and I don't smell it on my hair or around my head at all. My hair seems to drink it up, and the moisture transforms my hair.

I only used this twice before returning it. I see why some people like the fruity-candy smell but it lingered around my head all day. As someone before me said, I'm not in high school and I don't want to smell like Jolly Ranchers. Left my hair a little sticky, but I would have played with it more if the smell didn't bother me so much. I see why some people like it, but I will not buy this again.

When I first tried this, I really did not like it.... it seemed too heavy for my hair. This summer, my hair loves it! Smells fantastic too!

I really like this stuff. It smells fruity like skittles bit I don't mind. Put it on wet hair and my curls dried with definition and were frizz free.

I really like this stuff! It gives my 2c/3a curls softness and shine :) It's not too great on dry hair and I use it with AngeL and find that it works best that way, but its an AMAZING finishing product and really holds style well without being crunchy or gross! Also the smell doesn't bother me too much but I love flowery/fruity scents so that may be why :P

This product is great for adding a bit of fluff to my hair for those days when I prefer a softer look. It does not work well as a finishing product for me as it tends to promote frizz but I like to use it with gel for added hydration. The smell is pleasant and light but as a sensitive redhead I’d prefer the use of essential oils for scent rather than fragrance. I love the botanical ingredients in this product but there are also ingredients I’m less than thrilled about. Overall, it’s a nice product to have around when I feel like a style change.

Pointless product! It is the One Condition in a spray bottle. Again, there are better products out there who do wonders and without the ridiculous price tag

I was looking for a curl refresher (still looking) but anyway I don't like it left my hair greasy and stringy like, not moist.... I even tried it on wet hair and same thing plus alot of frizz!!!

This product is excellent for refreshing 2nd to 5th day wash and go curls (KCCC). I only gave it 4 curls becaus it doesn't work very well on dry hair, seems to cause frizz on twist outs.

Left my hair feeling strangely gummy with no noticeable frizz reduction or softness. Smells exactly like Skittles. Do not like.

I actually really like this product. I found it worked a lot better than the AnGel. I don't actually spray it on my wet curls. I paper towel dry my hair after I've left some of the Deva OneConditon in my hair. I put about a tablespoon in my hands, flip my head over and finger comb it in. I find it really defines my curls and leaves them soft and moisturized. If I need to bring them back to life the next day I just use the "Mist-er Right" and they bounce back great!

I struggled with this when I first got it. I sprayed it on wet hair after adding gel and then sprayed it after hair dried. Left my fine 3a hair feeling heavy and dirty. Next I left out the spray when it dried. Better. After reading other reviews I tried spraying it into my hands and patting into the wet canopy after gel. Much better and seemed to control frizzies. Now the only time I use it on dry hair is if a section of hair has dried a little frizzy. I put one-two sprays in my hand and pat on the frizzy parts. Works very well that way, but not any better than doing the same thing with coconut oil. Now I use it for on the go in my purse but stick with coconut oil at home.

I hate the smell of this product, so I'm really reluctant to keep using it. Unfortunately, you seem to have to use it with the AnGEL in order to deal with frizz.

It's an OK product. Didn't really do much, but didn't hurt either. People say it smells like Skittles and some seem to like that but I'm not 5 years old. Who wants candy smelling hair? I'm throwing it out (reusing the bottle) for one of a 100 other products that won't make my hair smell like a high school girl.

This is a true staple in my hair care regimen. I see a lot of people don't like the smell, but I really do like it. I use it two ways - both on dry hair. First, I spray it on my roots by my part and around the crown (spraying under the hair) to keep my roots lifted, like hair spray. Secondly I spray it into my hands, emulsify and slather around the canopy. It smooths away any frizzies and flyaways and leaves a nice finished sheen. It dries nice so I don't feel that producty and keeps my hair nice all day.

Didn't do anything for my hair. Left it feeling sticky and producty.

A good, soft hold styling aid/conditioner. If you have dry to very dry hair, use a leave-in prior. It also controls frizz. I gave it 4 curls because of the price.

It's a below average refresher that doesn't lend moisture and leaves my hair feeling a tad plastic/waxy like.

I waited til I was finished with my first bottle so I could give Set It Free an honest review...and my daughter and I LOVE IT! We both use this product daily. I personally love the smell, and it never leaves our hair greasy. My daughter sprays it on her hair before she scrunches in her gel. I use it differently -- after I plop and take my hair out of the towel, I spray Set It Free along my part, then a couple squirts into my palms, rub them together and scrunch it through my hair. Then I let my hair air dry. It really helps calm frizz and sets the curl with no crunch or fake feeling. Love it!!

I’m in the minority here but I LOVE this stuff. I used to let my hair dry completely before scrunching out the crunch but an hour or so later it would look frizzy and flat. Now, I let my hair air dry about 95% of the way through, spray 4 pumps of Set it Free in my hands and then SOTC. The curls keep their shape and the frizz is under control now. I’m not crazy about the smell but I find it goes away eventually.

I really can't say much good about this product because I returned it after using only 1 spray. I am not usually sensitive to any scents but I found the scent of this product ridiculously fake. Like putting jolly ranchers in my hair. It also left my hair a little greasy in the place where I applied. I sprayed into my hand first and then ran through partially dry curls.

I love this product. It's a great finishing product that I can layer over other products to give that final touch. It also revives next day hair and kills the frizz by providing shine. Best way to us it is to spray it on your hands and scrunch. When sprayed directly on curls it is bit sticky.

I love this product. I like the smell. It works great with Devacurl anGel, I have received many compliments. Set it Free is great for defrizzing on windy days and on humid days.

I did NOT like the smell of this product at all - normally, after a while you won't notice a scent but I could still smell this the next day. While the product did keep my hair looking nice, it did not feel nice at ALL, it felt like straw, not crunchy but kind of sticky and dry feeling. I washed my hair (with a low-poo) the next day and I could still smell it - it did not wash/rinse out very easily. I tried a light spritz after washing and diffusing to see if it was just a quantity issue and it was a bit better but I still couldn't stand the smell. I got the sampler pack and I liked all the other Deva products but I'm glad I didn't buy a large bottle of this one...

Didn't feel like this did anything for my hair. After reading some of the other reviews I will try it again on wet hair before AnGell to see if that will work for me too.

At first I'd spray it directly on my hair after waking up in the morning. I was left with defined but flat curls that were very product-y and felt gross and sticky... and I hated the scent :b But then I read the reviews below and tried spraying it on my hand first and then slathering it on... THEN I got all of the definition and shine, without the stickiness. Now I definitely can't go without it, especially since I shower at night and need a quick "morning-after" definer. IMO this is much better than Mister Right for 2nd day hair. I still hate the scent (I really would rather not smell like candy, thank you very much), but I'm getting used to it ;)

i haven't tried this product, i'm just writing this review to comment on something i noticed. the fact that the 3oz. bottle is $7.96 and the 6oz. is $17.95 doesn't make sense. why would double the amount (3oz. vs. 6oz) cost more than double the price? the 6 oz. bottle should cost $15.92 (the 3oz. price times 2) or even a little bit less. if not, why would you choose the big bottle instead of getting 2 small ones? or am i missing something?

This is a nice holding or setting spray that is also moisturizing. Contains ingredients like beeswax so people with fine or limp hair will probably not enjoy this. I only gave it 4 stars because the scent is overly strong.

Gives my fine 3a curls excellent moisture when scrunched in soaking wet hair following AnGel. An HG for 2nd day hair- gives me THE BEST 2nd day hair when I spray a couple pumps on my hands and very lightly run them over the canopy/ends. Be careful about using too much, though, as that can make your 2nd day hair stringy.

I use it every 3 days AFTER spritzing, conditioning, and moisturizing with MELTED shea butter. I spray it into my hands NOT all over my head. Then I slide it down my twists. I shake around a little and I'm good. The smell is nice NOT bothersome at all. It keeps moisture in for about 3 days on 3c/4a hair. Let me say I really like it, but I'd use an oil before paying 17 bucks. I got mine on ebay in a lot.

There is nothing like this product--its great! Provides shine and light hold and frizz protection, smells great. I use it before defusing.

I have tried to use this product several different ways, lately. When I used if first time, it was on dry hair, and I used only a few spritzes and it was super sticky. Then I tried it on my wet hair, with less stickiness, but when the day went on, it got gummier and gummier. I then followed someone's recommendations and used it with the Arc Angell, just spraying a little in my hands and using it to scrunch the curls. Nope... this is not a product for me... it is far to gummy and sticky to make my curls feel good and stay nice all day. I will not buy it again.

I love this product! I agree with the other reviewer who said it smells like skittles! It smells awesome and is very easy to use. The spray is even and instantly makes my hair feel more conditioned. I have really dry hair and asked Shari what to use. She said this is all I need for a styler. She was right!

Love this for second or third day hair, especially after sleeping. It revives my 3b curls and clumps them back together in no time! Two things that keep it from being 5 stars - my hair definitely has to be shampooed afterwards - I can't go another day after using much of this, or my hair feels sticky and matted; also, I'm not wild about the scent, which reminds me of Alka-Seltzer cold medicine. It's perfect for a hair reviver, though, so I will definitely keep using it!

This product didn't add value to my style. Made my hair feel gummy and sort of wet. Tried using it a couple of different ways but no noticieable improvement in style or manageability.

I love it it makes my hair sooooo soft and touched up my curls when i didn't shower.

I just got this in the travel size today with the other products, AWESOME!!! I put it on my hands and scrunched it in wet hair and then Angell and it worked!! I have spent 2 weeks trying the CG method and had mixed results, but now my curls look great!! I will be getting the full size of all Devacurl.

My stylist gave me a great Deva cut and then styled my 3b hair using this and ArcAngell. They worked great together. I had used this before with very poor results, but she told me, "sometimes the directions on how to use a product aren't exactly 'right.' " Basically, she experimented with the product to find a use that would giver better results. Instead of using as a finishing or even a 2nd day spray, she sprayed it onto my wet hair, then scrunched in ArcAngell, then blotted dry with paper towels. My hair never looked better!

Ok, so I used to just spray this product on my hair and it did not work very well. I saw what other people were saying, and I tried spraying it on my hands and then scrunching it into my dry hair on the second day. Voila! hair magic. It defined my curls and wasn't sticky or stiff. I left them feeling soft and moisturized. I think I am going to start using it before my gel (love FOTE!). The fragrance isn't my fave which is why I gave it only 3 curls.

The first thing I noticed about this product was its overly perfumed scent, so strong that it made my eyes burn. It also felt a bit gummy after my hair dried. I didn't want to pitch it out, so I diluted it 1:1 with water and the effect was much better. Needless to say, once it's gone, that's it for Set it Free.

This works well to revive next day curls. It makes them shiny and refreshed. I love the yummy citrus scent. I pump a little in my hands and scrunch it into my hair for better distribution. You only need a little to get results.

3B hair Maybe I'm using this wrong, but it just doesn't do anything for me. I was hoping it'd cut down on frizz. Nope. I've used is as a last step on wet hair, and I've used it on dry hair, and still nothing. It was a waste of money.

I really like Deva a lot! this product is pretty good - I like it with the gel, they seem to work real well together. it's pretty light but too much can get crunchy...has a great scent, very light!

GREAT product for those days you don't want to wash your hair, but revitalize the curl. You can't just spray it on, you've got to scrunch/shape the curl. With my recent short cut (from 11 in. longer), this is a lifesaver :) Not sure it would do the trick with my "old long hair" though.

Wonderful product! I like to use it on dry hair to make my hair behave all day. Italso can magically bring my curls and waves back to life if I'm having a bad hair day. A little goes a long way on my fine hair which makes this a good buy. I prefer it over Curl Keeper for locking out frizz.

This product is the only one in this line that I am really happy with. You don't need a lot and it works really well. It is great to boost up your curls mid day. I also like to use it to hold my curls.

i love set it free! i think it is how you use it, i started using it a year ago, only on dry hair. while i loved what it did for my hair, i hated the smell. now i no poo, then one condition, and leave in a lot of one condition, then blot dry my hair, spray in set it free, then style. it curls my hair, keeps frizz away, my hair is soft, curly and shiny. i think cutting down on other products and using it on wet hair made all the difference.

This is truly a unique product. I rub a few sprays on my hand with Blended Cutie Soft Curls & Swirls to unscrunch, stretch or otherwise "finish" my dried curls. I use in the same way on 2nd day hair to help revie the texture and fluff it out and soften it. It's great stuff.

I would have liked this product so much more if it didn't smell TOO STRONG. Gives me a head ache. Great little spray though. Gives the curls bounce and extra curl. Didn't work too well with frizz for me. But that smell..It had to go. Well worth a try!

I won't repurchase this because it doesn't do anything for my hair. It doesn't do anything bad - just nothing.

This is an okay product for me. Not totally bad but not something I think I'll get again. I use it for smoothing down surface frizz and it does help to scrunch it in for frizziness after your hair is dry, but it depends on what products I've used. With some products it leaves my hair feeling producty. Love the scent - like apple jolly ranchers! I'd buy it alone for the scent!

i'm with Ringlet above - not sure what the fuss is about?! Definitely leaves my hair sticky and smells weird in my hair all day - like orange flavored baby asprin. There are better finishers out there with less stickiness and for less money!

Absolutely love this stuff! A few squirts on my hands, scrunched into wet hair before applying AnGell, makes all the difference in the world! Then, on completely dry hair, scrunch in a few more squirts for shine, extra hold, and getting rid of the crunch. I didn't believe that anything could go onto my dry hair without making it stiff, but this did. A little goes a long way... too much can get sticky. It smells heavenly, too. I adore this product!

This is a HG styler for me! I use it in damp hair, on dry hair and for 2nd day curls. Whichever way, it adds shine, hold and keeps my curls from frizzing... it even tames the trickiest spots. I love the smell and the versatility! I just have to make sure I never run out of this one.

this smells amazing and works even better. it's a super creamy spray i spray in my hands and apply to my hair as the last step of my styling. the frizz factor without & with this stuff is like day and night. helps enhance my waves too. i also use it after my onc mister rightmix spray on 2nd day hair. i wish it came in bigger bottles!!!!

I am a huge fan of DevaCurl products. However,This product did not work for me. I would not buy it again. It left my hair frizzy, waxy and sticky.It smelled really good though.

I no longer need another styling aid!!! It's a miracle! Thank you Devachan for this perfect product. It holds curl without being stiff or crunchy. I apply on soaking wet hair after generously conditioning with One Condition and have amazing results. This is my HG!!

Been using this about 3 weeks now and just ordered another bottle. I love it! I use it on my hair while it is wet after I give OC a little rinse. Then I use it again when my hair is dry on any curls that come out frizzy or otherwise undefined. I usually spray it on my hands then rub it in my hair. For 2nd day hair, I spray it onto my pineapple, smooth it in, put on shower cap and shower, and take it down. Great hair days with this! I have 3b/c hair.

I'm still experimenting with SiF, but I'm really starting to love this product...and am relying heavily on it. It always manages to fix my hair mistakes. If I don't put enough gel or leave-in in it or I don't scrunch enough or let it airdry too long or it's overconditioned, and it looks frizzy, puffy, too soft, undefined, too straight or whatever, I just spray this on and scrunch it in...and voila! My hair is shiny and curly and nice. :o)

Great product for soft hold and preserving curls for second day hair. It has a nice lime-candy scent, but not overpowering. Will definitely re-purchase!
