"Honey, why is there a big green plastic hand on our bathroom counter?" Why indeed. Recently I overheard my 6 year old daughter's friend ask, "Why does your Mommy wear her hair wet? My Mom says she has no idea." My daughter said something along the lines of, "Maybe she likes it that way." Not so much. Obviously my preferred method of air-drying was taking way too much time to get the results I want from my hair. Occasionally people asked me if I'd just gotten out of the pool, (at 5 in the afternoon)...but it hadn't occured to me that my perpetually damp hair would look odd to people. I realized that every time my daughter's friend saw me just happened to be on the days I'd washed or refreshed my hair. Currently I have a bob that falls between my chin and my shoulders but can be chin-length if the mood suits it. I've tried all kinds of diffusers over the years...more than I can remember. None of them dry the roots of my hair. At best, they've been able to make my hair "damp" but I've never completely dried my hair with a diffuser. I'd read that this "Deva Fuser" is good for drying the roots, and, believe it or not, it is! I find this is nice for getting under the curls so I can dry near my scalp, and it's also excellent for "setting" a shape in my hair. If I tried to use it to completely dry my hair, it would take about 3 days, but I didn't want it for that. I'm not crazy about the rubber band holding this large green appendage onto my hair dryer. It's quite awkward, but I must say it's amazingly light weight compared to my usual diffusers. I ordered the diffuser from Amazon, figuring it was likely to fit at least 1 of the hair dryers scattered in the depths of my house. It did fit exactly one...which I found in my kids' bathroom (an old Andis 1875W Ionic that sounds like a turbojet engine, and I'm sure this junk dryer doesn't do the diffuser any good). When the diffuser is attached to the dryer, the "petals" at the bottom of the diffuser stick out, and even with the heat at its lowest, the rubber gets super hot and smells like it's melting. I like this enough, though, that I plan to spring for the whole Deva-dryer system. Honestly, I'm sick of having damp hair all the time, and I have no idea what else could help. The Deva dryer is priced right about the same as most professional quality dryers, so I feel the price is fair. I rated this "4" because even though it's a funny looking contraption, it's quite an ingenius device. It does things to my hair I've never experienced before, and I like being able to dry my roots faster. Honestly, I would not recommend buying this attachment unless it's absolutely necessary. On the proper hair dryer (or at least on one it can fit properly!) this is definitely worthwhile for curly hair.
You can order the same version of the new diffuser with the rubber band and cheaper plastic from many websites delivering from china. It will be black, not bright apple green but works just as well. It cost $16 w/free shipping too.At that price it is worth the somewhat cheaper quality. Seach for black hand shaped hair diffuser and many sites will pop up. I love mine!
I have the new version of the DevaFuser. It now uses a wide rubber band to attach to the dryer. The first time I used it (attached to a Revlon 1875) it kept falling off. I think the band was too tight at first, I have used it 2 more times and have not had it fall off any more. I like the design better than a normal diffuser but am not sold on the changes to the design. I wish I had paid the extra money and got the original DevaFuser and dryer. I may return it. The plastic feels cheap, I am afraid of breaking. It is not worth $50.00, very overpriced for what you get. BUT I really like the results.
This is a question really. Is this sold as a universal attachment anymore? I can only find it paired with the Deva hair dryer and it's WAY too expensive as a set for me. If so, where can I buy it as an attachment? I'm giving it a 4 rating since my stylist used it on me and I loved it!
I really love this diffuser for the rare occasion I use a hair dryer. I've tried it on several hair dryers and the only ones it didn't fit on were ones that had slanted/sloped nozzles. It dries my roots much faster and gives me great volume and maintains definition.
On the rare occasion I use my blow dryer, this is the only diffuser that I will use anymore. Even got my stylist sold on it! She was skeptical at first but she really liked it once she used it on my hair. I only gave it a 4 because the "universal"attachment isn't really all that universal sadly :(
I called the Deva Curl company, and they said they are redesigning the DevaCurl DevaFuser, and it will be available later this year.
I love this for drying my roots! I just tilt my head and gently place it on my scalp for 5 minutes in different spots and my roots have tons of volume.
I tried it once so maybe more tires are needed. It dries my roots very quickly Good !!!, yet it kind of broke up My curls. (My curls that clump and create beautiful ringlets) So I ended up with shinny, soft (smaller curls)... Good ,but not great, it kind of made my hair a little fizzy on The crown as well. I will give it another try and be a little more Patience and see what happens. I will update after a week of using it.
well, i think i need to learn how to use this. great for roots, im having trouble with the rest of the hair though. i have to do like another poster and use it for roots and finish with a regular diffuser.but, i would like to say to the posters who have trouble keeping it on the hairdryer. i did also, it kept popping off until i took the rubber piece inside the adapter off.(the piece that keeps the "teeth" so tight.) it works great now and is tight as can be but doesnt fall out.
I give it four curls because it dries my thick roots quickly and adds lift, which I need. It's also helping because I don't use the hot temp anymore, only the warm, which means less damage. And since the roots dry more quickly with less heat, I sweat less and stay cooler in hot, humid weather. I have a nice Babyliss dryer which this fits with the adapter, and I use warm temps only, so it rarely falls off the dryer. I only do the roots with this, not the ends. If the ends need a little drying, then I switch to a regular diffuser for them and scrunch slowly. The instructions say "never bend over to dry your hair again!" but I still prefer to dry upside-down since I get more uniform results.
I'm no different than the rest of the curly heads out there...always looking for the best products to style our hair. So I heard about this devafuser and paid the $30+ on it. I absolutely HATED it! It took to long to dry my hair and I lost my volume! That and it was so akward to use.
I received this for Christmas and have only used it a couple of times. It is a bit akward for use but it does fit my hair dryer perfectly. It has never fallen off while using. i do think my hair is too short for it. I will hang on to it until my hair grows longer and give it another try.
I probably should have realized that I didn't need the Devafuser when the two times I've visited the Devachan Salon they put me under a hair dryer. I asked about the Devafuser, but got some kind of noncomittal answer. When I bought the attachment last year, it kept falling off my blow dryer. My arm got very tired during the process and it was difficult to do anything else. Moreover, I don't need lift, just the opposite. I called Devachan and asked for some dryer suggestions, but no one would help me. Someone on this forum posted a list of compatible hair dryers and I may buy one some time. I recently bought a $30 portable hair dryer that I found the Amazon site and found that after 20 minutes my hair is almost completely dry. I do some spot work with a diffuser. If I end up trying the Devafuser again, I'll probably try using it for the hair underneath and then finish off with the portable dryer.
It's a great diffuser. It dried my hair much quicker and I was more in control of styling the curls. Also it dried my roots much quicker and gave them a nice lift. However, the adapter part kept coming off. It was very annoying as even though it dried my hair quicker I ended up spending a lot of time putting the diffuser back on my hair drier as it gets really hot, too. I guess I need to get the whole thing, drier with the diffuser.
OMG! I am reading the reviews and I am shocked! I absolutely love, Love, LOVE my DevaFuser! Not only does it quicken my drying time, it gives my hair plenty of root lift! And I have NEVER had a problem with frizz when I use mine. In fact, it seems to help keep my frizz at bay! I'm not sure what's going on with other users of the product, but I can do nothing but absolutely rave about my experience with it!
I bought this product, but similar to many other posters, it does NOT fit on my hairdryer despite saying it fits 99% of hair dryers. I am not ready to invest in a new hair dryer to try out this diffuser, so back to the store it goes!
I am glad I did not invest in the complete dryer and opted to buy the diffuser that would retro fit my hair dryer. This is a very difficult tool to use- perhaps more practice is needed?
It is supposed to be a universal fit. However, it did not fit my dryer. I have a brand new dryer (HotTools less than 1 year old). Currently I use a Solano universal which does indeed fit.
I was very disappointed with this product as well. Glamour magazine was raving it as the best product out there for curly hair- so of course I had to try it. I got it and was soo discouraged. My hair is very limp after blowdrying it, the attachment keeps coming off, it made my hair EXTRA frizzy, and it had no shine whatsoever. And they wont even let us return them!! So now I am stuck with a $185 product that blows!
2 curls minus. I couldn't wait to get this diffuser and dryer but am disappointed. It's awkward to use, musses curls, and falls off the dryer at times. When I was at Devachan, it was only used to dry the ends of my hair and no one was using it up and under hair. It's a disappointment.
I recently purchased this product after falling in love withthe devacurl line. altough i am still used to tipping my hair upside down to dry it, this product is wonderful. my hair dries my faster, tighter, and frizzless. it feels much bouncier and full of life!it is an investment but well worth it!
I had high hopes for this product, but it doesn't work well enough to justify the high price tag. My hair is about waist length, and while this diffuser would dry the hair next to my scalp much faster than anything else I've used, it didn't work so well on the rest of my hair. Since I could not place my hair in the bowl of the diffuser like I can with my traditional diffuser, I had a lot of trouble keeping my hair from blowing every which way and becoming frizzy. I would end up drying my roots with the DevaDryer, and then finishing the rest of my hair with my $20 dryer.
