Good for wash and go's but very crunchy and gives me unwanted volume. Great for summer.

For me, "KCCC" is a phenomenally great product, but it took some time for me to get used to it. I have 3a/b curls that I decided to "set free" last August. It is now nearly February, and I have not used any harsh sulfates (no "poo"/co-wash) or water-insoluble silicones on my hair for 6 months; nor have I used a hair brush, or a dryer without a diffuser (I usually air-dry). This "CG" method was the best thing I've ever done for my hair, because the difference in how my hair looks, feels, and behaves is like having a whole new head of hair. I think the biggest issue for me was that my hair was severely moisture deprived, and it's taken months of trials and errors to stabilize the dryness. When I first tried KCCC, right after "going CG", I felt that it took way too long to dry in my hair, it shortened my curls too much, and it had a crunchiness that wouldn't completely scrunch-out. I had followed the advice on the jar, and used it very sparingly, and over a leave-in conditioner. Now, I can use this straight-up on water-washed or co-washed hair, and the results are fabulous. I use more than I thought I would, based on the jar's directions, and I make sure I work it into hair that is soaking, dripping wet. I plunk for 10-15 minutes & then air-dry. These days, it's taking only 5-7 hours for my hair to dry, so I either apply KCCC before bed, or very early in the morning. This dries a little crunchy, but there are two secrets to my success with this gel. 1. Do NOT touch, crunch, scrunch till hair is COMPLETELY dry. It's hard to resist scrunching, because I'm used to it helping my hair dry faster, but it ruins the work of KCCC. 2. Use a refresher, or water to SOTC. If I scrunch with dry hands, I get flyaway frizz. After waiting all those hours, it's a bit disconcerting to wet my hair again, but I just dampen it slightly, and it doesn't take too long to dry. When it does dry, the results are absolutely worth the wait. My hair feels full, and bouncy, and silky, and shiny. Best of all, this has HOLD. Once it's dry my hair doesn't try to reshape itself at odd angles, and frizz is gone. Gone! It's so dry here today that I repeatedly shocked myself when folding laundry, and I could see sparks, but I didn't have any "zapped" looking flyaways, When I use this, it's really hard to stop myself from touching my hair, because it feels so soft it surprises me. I love KCCC. I regularly get second and third day curls with KCCC just by using a refresher spray ("Set It Free" works great), or water. I've found KCCC doesn't work well with other gels or curl cremes, but, if needed, it works well over leave-in conditioner. If you've tried KCCC and had bad results, I hope maybe it will eventually work for you! I want all of us with curls to enjoy them in ways we never thought possible. (I'm 46, and I never imagined I would even like, let alone enjoy, my curls.) When KCCC does work, it's like nothing else on the market for definition and hold. I just can't get over my bouncy, SOFT hair!

I really like this but I need to be careful about what I layer with it and how much I use. I have a light hand with products when I'm not familiar with how my hair will respond (it's easy enough to scrunch in more water and product if I need it, but not quite so easy to dial it back when you put in too much). That turned out to really work in my favor. My thick MBL hair usually needs a lot of product to give it definition, but I only had to use maybe a quarter size glob of this. I first use a leave-in (Darcy's) then the KCCC then BRHG. I blow dried via Pixiecurl method and got great definition and hold with no long drying time or crunch. But for some reason my hair really soaks up whatever else is in it when I use KCCC. I don't mind now that I know that it does this, but it does mean that I need to use a bit more of anything I pair with this which is not so great. I would still repurchase this though because the definition and clumping is really beautiful!

This is the first time I've ever reviewed this product since my introduction to it in 2009. I has been a labored relationship. I went from putting it aside b/c my hair wasn't curling, to kicking it in the corner due to my hair being too crunchy and stringy after using it, to hugging it and cherishing it as it gives me soft, buttery, elongated curls. The main trick is that KCCC DOES NOT LIKE SILICONES AND OILS. No, it does not. I have also noticed that my hair doesn't dry crunchy AT ALL if I use a large amount of KCKT as a leave-in and then run cool water over it until it has a seaweedy feel to it. I then, put 2 fingertip full amounts of KCCC onto 5 sections of hair; my hair is an inch past my shoulders. I smooth it and scrunch it in. I let it air dry. I know how to use this thing, now, and will NEVER let it go. I'm keeping it "'Til the wheels fall off."

I must say I was quite impressed with this. The price turned me off for quite some time until I finally bit the bullet and picked some up from target. A little goes a long way and the 8oz jar can literally last me months. I use the KCKT after washing, add a small dime size amount of KCCC, plop for 10 minutes than diffuse and I had GREAT results. I'm a product junkie and have tried everything but always end up with frizzy fuzzy curls or a greasy mess. This was soft, defined and looked very natural. Best of all I needed barely any of the product to get results! I was worried about product build up but I did not see any of those problems in my hair. Im 3a on top and 2b/c underneath and at the nape of my neck, I do have shorter above my shoulders hair so with longer hair I expect to use a little more product. This really was worth the money for me! Definitely sticking with this product!

I liked this product a lot. I purchased it as an alternative to my homemade flaxseed gel, since the flaxseed gel has to be refrigerated all the time, it wasn't practical to take the flaxseed gel with me while I was going out of town for a few days.
So I purchased this gel because I still wanted something natural and at least somewhat chemical free.
I have to say that it definitely defined my curls, and I got a compliment from my boyfriend when I used this product.
I give it 4 starts instead of 5 because it left my hair kind of dry. But then again all I did was apply it to soaking wet hair the first time w/o a conditioner or of any sort or moisturizer, but that's because the product said it was supposed to moisturize.
I tried it again after I applied my shea butter concoction and it didn't leave my hair as dry. I like this product only as an alternative to my homemade flaxseed gel, when I don't have time to make it, or when its impractical for me to take it with me out to town, since it has to be refrigerated. But I agree with everyone, a little goes a long way with this stuff....I didn't apply a lot...perhaps a nickle size and it was more then enough.

While this helped somewhat to define my 3c/4a/4b hair, the residue was outta this world! I tried a lotta bit, I tried a little bit, I tried it with the kckt. I didn't matter. I ended up with a flaky, white, and embarrassing mess after it dried.

I am on the fence about this product. The first time I used this product my hair was a crispy crunchy mess. I realized that I used way too much product and that a little goes a long way. The second time I used this product I followed the instructions that were on the KC website. While my hair was soaking wet I applied KCKT. Then I divided my hair into two sections and applied a nickel sized amount of the KCCC on each section. Following the product application I then diffused my hair using the pixie method. My hair was defined and frizz free. However, my hair felt dry and lacked shine. Also, the KCCC left build up in my hair. So the day after there were dust particles coming from my hair. Ick. Overall, okay results but at $17 a jar I will NOT be purchasing this product again.
Side note: I also don't like the fact that I can't mix this product with others. But hey its a clever marketing strategy for the maker of KC~

I absolutely LOVE this product!! It keeps my hair intact all day and I am constantly touching it because it's fun to play with. It's been so hard having my hair because products never ever work for me- except this one. This is the first product I have ever tried that actual promises to have no frizz! Every other product I've tried claims they are anti-frizz but they flat out lied. Thanks goodness I found this! Recommend for anyone- especially 3c :)

I love this! I have 3a, VERY fine and healthy hair. I co-wash with Curl Junkie Daily Cleansing Cond. then follow with Knot Today and rinse out w/cold water. I then apply this to soaking wet hair, cup cold water onto my hair, scrunch some water out, then scrunch with t-shirt and dry on cool with my fingers scrunching while I go. I get 3rd day hair from this, and I used to have to wash every day. The one problem I've had is that it doesn't seem to define and lift my hair well on first try. When I wet, spritz with deva curl's mister right and clip my roots in front

When I first got this product I didn't really love it, but I kept coming back to it and I learned how to best use it with my hair, and now I get such good results that I can't use anything else! I put it in my hair when it's damp, not dripping wet, that way I get more curl enhancement, and then I top it off with a bit of BRHG for hold. It gives me consistently good results! And believe me, I tried really hard to find other more inexpensive products that would do the same thing, but nothing can compare! For me it's worth the money, I get great hair, and it lasts fairly long.

This stuff is great! I finally broke down and bought it after eyeing it for weeks...haha
Before, I had used lots of stylers: Herbal Essences Totally Twisted Mousse (drying,) Beautiful Curls Gel (crunchy,) Eco Styler (frizzy,) Shea Moisture Curl Smoothie (weighed hair down,) and Fairy Tales Curl Maker (not enough hold.) This, however, is not drying, not crunchy, doesn't make my hair frizzy, doesn't weigh it down, and it has GREAT hold! Also, it smells delicious. I do the Super-Soaker method for this and get great clumps! This does enhance the curl. Plopping was always iffy for more and I would get frizz, but if I plop and use this, the frizz is minimal. I co-wash with Beautiful Curls Leave-in for Wavy to Curly hair and then use this and clarify with the BC shampoo once a week. I'm happy with the results :) I would highly recommend this to wavy-haired girls!
The only downfall is it's ridiiiiiiiiiiculously expensive. If this were $5-7 cheaper, I would be so happy. If you want to try this but can't afford the price, I would recommend the Beautiful Curls Gel. It's a bit crunchier, and this is definitely the better one, but it's the closest thing I've used.
If you're willing to spend, though, this is an awesome buy!

Ok, so it should be noted that I am a slave to new products, especially since I am newly natural and I am still learning so much about how to style my natural hair. With that being said I heard alot of hype about KCCC and Eco-Styler gel, I bought the eco styler first because it was just more economical and I loooooooooooooooved the results. However, I have always been very curious about KCCC, but reluctant to spend so much money on such a small container!! so anyway i broke down and bought KCCC, I tried it out a few days ago, on freshly washed and conditioned hair, dripping wet out of the shower. I have to say KCCC is worth the hype. This gel certainly defined and shined my curls instantly, and I didn't need to use very much at all. It literally seperated every single kink and curl almost to a fault...( my hair looked a little Jheri curl-ish). I'm still rocking a TWA so as for now I won't need to use very much on a daily basis, I'm just curious as to how it will affect my bank account once my hair grows longer and I will need to use more product. My only cons to this product is it's price ( I am a single mother of two) and $17 for 8oz is just not in the cards for me, and secondly I really did not care for the fragrance either. But otherwise, this is an awesome product!

Is it possible to be in love with a product line? Because I sure am. Come clean and knot today performed small miracle and this is the icing on the cake. It looked suspiciously like flax seed gel, which didn't work out too great for me, but its the farthest thing from it. First of all, this is one of the few styling product that actually IS moisturizing, and boy is this moisturing. Second, I don't get any crunch, actually it makes my hair super soft, and I do apply it generously. Third, my curls come out PERFECT and also springy! Tight, shiny corksrews is what I get as opposed to crunchy, dull, stringy, pulled out curls which other gels give me. I don't get any frizz. Also like the other KC products the smell is light and delicious. This one smells like sweet cream. And because the scents are so light they blend well together and my hair smells divine. Plus its available on ground so I save a ton on shipping and its available at whole foods to boot, so I can get it pretty much whenever I want. Its not the cheapest, but its SO worth it, and since I save on shipping I don't care anyways. I HIGHLY recommend this, as well as come clean and knot today. They are supposed to be used together, and its no marketing play, they WORK.

The only reason I gave this product 4 stars is because in the humid Miami summer, it does not work. Needless to say the first time I tried it was in the summer. For winter time, nothing makes my hair look better than this. My hair is moisturized, stretched, defined, and the best part is that I get 3 days of awesome hair. I pineapple my hair to sleep and in the morning I just have to smooth a little water into my hair and VOILA! awesome hair! Its a but pricey, but well worth the money, especially if you purchase the 16oz tub.

I was so excited when I got a chance to try this stuff. Unfortunately, I ended up being majorly let down. This stuff flaked in my hair, left my curls crunchy, and left me with ramen noodle looking curls that even the wind couldn't make move. And, its smell is on the sickening side as well. Never again will I try this stuff!
This product doesn't deserve the hype! Instead, it needs to be seriously reformulated.

I see why this product is the best of the best. I have not used a product that has kept my DD's 3c/4a hair defined, soft, and shiny ALL day!! Not one product did this. I left her hair down to hair dry...I didn't think I would ever be able to do this without it turning into an afro a few hours later. It's didn't take long to dry for me either. I used a little less than a dime size amount on each small section...actually I probably could have used a bit more because I didn't get any crunch. Her hair would have lasted longer in the down and out style, if she wasn't an active 2 year old who likes to wallow around and stand on her head...lol. I just pulled it back into two puffs and she was good to go. Her curls were still more defined and there was no frizz anywhere in site. I was/am very impressed. Now let's see what type of 2nd day hair I get... :) I"m optomistic!!!! I'm in love so far!!!! Great product, please don't change a thing...works best with the Knot Today and Come Clean Shampoo

This product can make my hair crunchy if I apply too much to my hair, but even when I do that if I scrunch the crunchiness away my curls come out PERFECT! I love how light-weight it feels, leaving me with lots of volume since I do have about elbow length hair that is weighed down very easily. Plus, it smells delicious! I use it with the Knot Today leave-in underneath (which also smells AMAZING!), and my curls come out soft, defined, and full of volume!

I have a twa, so I can't say too much about this product. Perhaps I haven't used it to its full potential yet. BUT, I must say it does a find job of holding in moisture and making my hair feel soft. I like to refresh it by adding a little water to my hair in the morning.

3 stars simply because it's a natural product and the hold is great. I use this product if I wear my hair in a pony tail (which is hardly ever) or putting my daughters hair in a pony. I don't particularly like this product as my styler. I don't like the way it dries nor the way it feels when I put it in my hair. I don't feel like it is penetrating my hair, simply sitting on top of it. I can never get second day hair with the product and it gives my hair lots of shrinkage. It smells great. Not at all a strong odor. I will not be purchasing again once I'm done with my current jar. I'm sure I can find a cheaper alternative for mine and my daughters pony tails.

This stuff really works and I have no idea why. It doesn't contain any of the traditional hair gel ingredients yet it's the best I've ever found for helping combat frizz. Granted it doesn't give me perfect frizz-free hair; I have 2a/2b fine thick hair that is prone to flyaway frizz and fluffiness. For most products I either have to choose between applying a lot to get rid of the frizz but then suffering from stringy, limp hair, or applying just a little and having nice volume but pretty much no frizz control. With this stuff all I need is a little to get frizz-reduced hair that still has lots of volume! I also really like that this gives me "big waves" as opposed to the thin, stringy curls that a lot of gels give me. It makes my hair look like I used a 3" barrel curling iron on it :). If you have fine wavy hair, try this! Just don't overdo it or you will get sticky, stringy hair.

I have to be honest, when I first tried this product, I believed it worked for me, but I wasn't too fond of the smell or the texture. but after some time this product has become my best friend A little definitely last a long way. and it doesn't leave a residue as log as you apple water and olive oil/ Shea butter beforehand Another thing I like is that the next day you can spritz water in your hair the next day and not have to apply any mor KKCC due to the residue. The only NO-NO about this product is that you cannot apply another product if you have this in your hair other wise you WILL get product build up.

I really disliked this product the first couple times I used it. I've found that it is really easy to put too much in your hair, which left my curls flat and took FOREVER to dry. My curls are finally growing out again after heat damage. A friend of mine at church gave me a jar of Curling Custard. I put it in my hair this morning. It looked fine and defined when it first went in, but OMG my hair was so crunchy at the end of the day, I had to shampoo it out and add my Olive Oil moisturizer, with 7 Oil to make my hair feel soft again. So here's how I'll be using it: I combined it with what's left of my leave in so I get slip in the shower, but otherwise I don't want to use something that's going to make me crunchy. So I'll keep it around and maybe MMMV after a few more uses, and if so I'll change my review. for now: hair with milk. CRUNCH.

I tried this product before trying DevaCurl and had a lot of success. When starting the Kinky-Curly routine, I found that I had little white flakes in my hair. But those soon vanished after I started using the shampoo and conditioner on a regular basis. My only criticism of the Curling Custard is the stickyness and slightly weighted feelings it has. However, I agree completely that it produces beautiful and defined curls. But way too pricy ($30 for the bigger tub) I would recommend the DevaCurl products (cheaper on Amazon.com) for those who are on a budget. :)

This is the only product that I can use after a wash and get 4 days of great hair before needing to reactivate or wash. I also have really thick hair that tends to get huge as it dries. Not with Kinky Curly. I get defined curls, shine and it reduces volume.
Cons:
Take FOREVER to dry
The only way to get the results that I like is to use basically half a jar after a wash. So after two washes (4 days apart), I need to buy another jar. And at that price, that gets a little hard on the wallet.
I wish they made a larger size.

I was very excited to try this product. I have thick hair with alot of frizz.
My first time using it I was shocked that consistency was extremely gelly. I don't like using hard gels. It was runny but sticky. Applying it was similar to any gel. My hair felt sticky and wet afterward and diffusing for 15mins only help some. After 3 hours I was very upset. My hair had the wet crunchy feel and look. The curls did form well and their was absolutely no frizz. But it lacked that natural look. So I began scrunching hard and shrugged off the product as another loss. But 8pm that night my curls looked amazing. The crunch and the wet was gone. Their was no frizz. They looked effortless and beautiful. My roommate even comment on how good it looked. So... the next day I combined it with a curling creme. I love it with the curling creme. I get the beautiful bouncy curls from the creme but with no frizz and awesome hold thanks to the gel. Plus I get awesome second day hair. But in my opinion Design Essentials Curling creme does this in one product. However it is a hard product to find product and I can easily get Curling Custard at whole foods and I think any curling creme would work. So this my back up product. But I would suggest that this product is worth a try. NO FRIZZ.

After hearing (and reading) all the hype about KCCC, I decided to give it a try. Everything is not for everybody, I guess. I have 3c hair that frizzes as soon as it starts drying and only gets worse throughout the day. The custard did fine at controlling frizz for the most part, but in terms of definition, I wasn't blown away like other reviewers. To me, it seems like KCCC's magic point is turning zigs into curls, which doesn't help if you already have curls. Plus, I wasn't crazy about the after-crunch. It did improve my hair over not using any post-wash products at all, and I probably would have given it 4 curls if it didn't cost as much as it does. I've gotten similar results from $4 drugstore products. I used the whole jar, but I'm sure I can find something a little better for a little cheaper.

This custard works well to keep curls defined and soft as long as I use it with Knot Today as a leave-in. Used alone, it flattens my hair, and makes it feel overly soft and fly-away. I think my hair needs the Knot Today so it doesn't absorb all the moisture out of Curling Custard. I have a feeling this product will work better and better as my hair finally grows out. I like to use it after cleaning my hair at night. I apply the custard and plunk, and sometimes I leave it plunked all night. My hair is too short not to have to dampen or spritz in the morning, but when it's longer I think this will leave my hair just right. This custard really adds softness and shine, and it makes my hair feel and look healthy.

This product is my HG. My saving grace that I'd be lost without! It's incredible. One little scrunch with this stuff and my curls pop up and they are frizz free and defined. It's a miracle worker. Before using this, I like to add a bit of knot today leave in conditioner and a little of curl keeper. Those 3 combined make perfect curls. The price on this is a bit high, but honestly it's worth it. It lasts a good while as well. I'd reccomend this to anyone with curls, you won't be sorry! Also from reading other reviews, it is true that at first you seem to not like it. I was the same way. You need to experiment with the amount used. I wouldn't use it alone..it feels yucky then I need to have some sort of base coat because the custard is a thick sticky texture. (it doesn't feel that way if you have a conditioner on as a base though). Long story short..totally worth buying. Stop reading the reviews and just add it to your cart already! :)

I really like this, especially in the winter (low dew point). It moisturizes and gives some hold. I only use a small amount over a lot of FSG. If I use too much, my hair will lose curl because of all the moisture. I usually let it air dry (which takes a while) but occasionally diffuse (which works just fine too).

When I first started using this product, I hated it. It left my hair feeling crunchy, hard, and dry. My hair has been thinning recently and the curling custard seemed to make my hair look stringy, which didn't help.
So you're probably wondering why I gave it 4 stars. I realized all the issues were because I was using too much of it and I wasn't applying it properly. After a couple of weeks and trying different methods, I realized the best way to use it for my hair was to put a pea sized amount (maybe a little bigger) on my palm, add a few drops of water to it, mix it between my hands, then scrunch it into small sections of wet hair. Adding the water made a huge difference, the product goes on smoother and doesn't clump onto one area of the hair, preventing any crunch when dry. I would definitely recommend using a leave in conditioner with this (or use your regular conditioner, which is what I do). Overall great product, leaves my hair shiny, soft, and holds all day.
I just wish the ingredients were organic, but I guess you can't have it all. I'm not sure why the description on this website says it's organic, it isn't. No where on the packaging or on their website do they claim their ingredients are organic, they simply say it's "all natural," there's a difference.

Curl definition on my fine-textured 3c/4a hair, A+. For everything else...is it possible to have an F-? It left my hair hard & crunchy with a white residue. It didn't matter if I put it on without a leave-in or not; soaking wet or damp; or used a blow dryer with a diffuser or let air dry. I tried cutting it with aloe vera, olive oil, both of them together or nothing. And I was not able to co-poo, I had to actually shampoo my hair to get it all out. Finally, I just threw the half empty bottle in the trash. Won't make THAT expensive mistake again!

I really like KCCC. I use it with KCNT. It does a really good job of defining my waves. It can be a little crunchy but once you scrunch it out it fine. The only other drawback is it leaves my hair a little dry. Who know with more practice it may get better.

I adore Kinky Curly Curling Custard. I layer it over their Knot Today Leave-In Conditioner for delicious smelling, soft moisturized hair that is light and airy. It adds shine, hold, and definition to my waves and curls. I find that a dime size amount (of each) is perfect for my below-the-bra-strap length hair. Before I was using this combo, my hair was dry, frizzy, and dull from being previously over-processed. Now I have finally embraced my 3a hair, and now flaunt these gorgeous beachy tresses!

I was a recent winner of the Naturally Curly 30 Days of Curl Power and I won Kinky-Curly products. At first, I didn't think this product would work on my hair type. I follow instructions. I use the Curling Custard gel after using the Knot Today detangler. I used the product wet doing twists. This product is really good with my hair. I have no flakes in my hair and white residue. My hair doesn't feel. Only suggestion for Kinky-Curly products is to come out with a conditioner and/or co-washing product.

I found this product to be just okay, nothing miraculous, but a decent gel. I used as recommended, slathering a glop on very wet hair, and I diffuse dry about 15 minutes later. The first time I used very little, probably about a quarter-sized amount and it was pretty bad - my hair was stringy, frizzy and generally 'blah.' The second time I used A LOT of the product and that seemed to work better. I had hoped to get clumpier waves and curls, this still keeps most of my head pretty stringy. I think I'm 2b with the occasional big ringlet curl showing up.

I just started to try/use this product. First day was awfull. way to puffy. Some curl definition not enough hold and it felt yucky. I'm a white girl with 3a/b frizzy curly hair and lots of it. I watched a you tube video on how to apply, tried it and also decided to add a little Bio Silk Rock Hard Gelee and it came out a lot better and it also feels better. I know it's supposed to be a one product to take care of all curly hair issues but for me, it didn't provide enough hold. I also use Morrocan Oil Intense Curl cream with the Rock Hard Gelee and I like that too. So.. if you have the product and are frustrated.. just add another gel.. with both the KCCC and BRHG.. I don't get any stiffness at all from these products alone or together like some people do. I just get the hold I need to control my frizz and poofyness.
Good Luck!

I love this stuff! I have a cosmetologist license and have tried a TON of products and can usually get products cheaper than the normal person. Although I have to pay more for this product, it's worth it. I am still growing out some of the keratin treatments I had done which had ended up damaging my hair but this stuff really brings my curls back to life when used with the Knot Today, you just have to make sure your hair is very wet or it will feel tacky when it dries. When used as instructed, my hair feels super soft, curls are defined, shiny and bouncy. I have received so many compliments on my hair. I tried Deva but broke out using it and again was on the search for "the product". Surprisingly this is better than Deva products. The other BIG bonus is that it is animal friendly and no cones, parabens, etc. Love love love this stuff!

6 months ago, I would have given this 1 star and was ready to toss this in the trash after a complete FAILURE on my first use. Thank GOD, I tucked it in my closet and recently revisited it. For me, using this with the KCKT (as suggested) is not the business. I use it with my CJ Argan & Olive Oil Daily Conditioner (as a leave-in) and could not have asked for better results.
This is definitely a finicky product, no doubt about it. But once I found the "right" combination of products, I've since upgraded KCCC to one of my staple products!
Word of advice: This may not necessarily work well for folks in the midst of transitioning who have significant straight relaxed ends remaining.

This product is very light and has a lovely scent. I have 3b curls in the back and 3c in the very front. This custard DOES NOTHING for my 3b curls in the back which is most of my hair. Although I get tons of compliments from using the curling custard, I must say that I dislike the fact that it leaves my hair so tangled the next day! I know it's recommended that I use the Knot Today, which I haven't tried yet but plan to. The day after I've used it, I just spray my hair with water and coil my hair all over with my finger and this seems to actually keep it from getting too tangled. Coiling it also lessens the shrinkage. I've also noticed the "pasty" sticky gue it leaves in my hair even after hours of putting it in. It doesn't leave the stickiness everytime, but when it does, it's annoying. That's why when I do apply it the first time, I don't put a bunch of it in, just enough so that I can finger coil it the rest of the week. Otherwise, it's a cool product that gives you that fun summer look:-)

I am not sure if it's my hair or this product, but I gave it a curl rating of 1. I heard such great reviews about this product, but when I tried it I was not pleased. I applied it to freshly washed hair and it did lengthen my curls, but it made my hair feel very tacky (like I put glue in it). It also took a really long time to dry and when it did my hair was crunchy and hard (not a good thing). My daughter who has 2 b hair loved it. She had the control and volume she was looking for. However my experience was not the same.

so i have mostly 3b but a little 3c hair and i bought this because of all the reviews i heard. i also bouth the leave in, but that's another story. overall great, my hair smelled fantastic and i had defined curls all day, but there were some problems. my already tight curls got tighter, which i guess could be a good think if u like really tight curls but because my hair only goes to my shoulders i don't, and my curls were crunchy. i guess you could scrunch it out but being in school i don't really have the time to do that, neither do i want to do that. i am going to try it for second day hair. i think it's a good product if you find the perfect amount to use. but i like to use a lot of product so i know my hair will stay good all day and you can't really do it with this product. it you are worried about the price, it does last a long time. i've had it for months, and don't use it everyday, every other day will suffice, you just have to learn how to get second day hair.

Pretty neat stuff. It did what it said it would do: define and moisturizer my curls! The first time I used it I think I used half a palm size of it in my hair, and it got really crunchy. I fixed that by spritzing some water around my hair and tadah! problem fixed!
The key is to use just a quarter sized amount on your hair. Your hair is already wet so using a small amount of the custard and massage it into your hair. There should be little to no crunchiness once it's completely dry. If it's a little crunchy, then SCRUNCH YOUR HAIR. That's what is says in the directions!
Now, the only reason why I gave this a four is because of it feels like I'm putting cold snot into my hair. Other than that, it smells and works great!

This product is amazing! I used it once before and it did what it said but my elongated 4a curls were kinda crunchy. So i did something different this last time I used it. I used the whole line like suggested. Then I took the Knot Today conditioner and sectioned my hair into 4 inital sections and smaller to liberally apply the product. I applied the leave in to the smaller sections before finger combing the custard in. i did that through out my entie head. It took about 30 mins. But guys....OMG... my hair was so soft and bouncy, something i havent experienced. i kept my hair like for 4 days! thats a feat for me! I can barely go 2 days without washing. And my hair was sooooo moisurized that it felt like it was wet with product but had not applied any. I love the kinky curly line =)

This product does take a while to dry. I'll do my hair at 6am and after work (5 pm) there are still damp patches. It also makes my hair crunchy. I hate the shrinkage too. I'll play with my hair and pull on it and it will extend 3 times the length of what it is with this product. HOWEVER, i haven't found anything better on the market. the curl definition is great. I see shine and so many cute curls when I use it. i guess what you are trying to achieve is key when giving an opinion about this product. i care more about curl definition than softness. the dampness is a bother, but not enough to leave the product alone.

I purchased this product about 7 months ago at the prompting of my boss who uses it religiously. I bought th ewhole line and followed the directions to the T. I applied it to dripping wet hair and at first I thought it was great as the curls were defined and it elongated my curls. I did my hair at 7am and by 2:30 pm it was still wet....my hair was still almost soaking in the middle at 8 that night. as it dried my hair shruk tremendously and little white flakes made an apperance. one of my co-workers actually asked me if I had dandruff. It was embarassing. I gave it several more shots before I figured out that this just isn't something for my hair. I hate to throw it away be cause is cost so much but it is still sitting on the shelf with about half of it contents. I have a combination of 3c and 4a hair so maybe it just wouldn't take. I wish you all the best with it and hope you have more success than I did.

I absolutely LOVE this stuff :D At first I was hesitant to purchase because of people's complaints that there was a huge learning curve with KCCC. However no other product I had was giving me good results so I plunged in and had awesome results instantly! There's excellent frizz control (though not perfect) and my curl definition is great :)
A lot of people complain that their hair takes longer to dry with this product but I feel as if though it takes around the same time if not a little bit less time to dry! Also i LURVEEE the smell, it smells like cake or vanilla O.O Not to mention I really like the consistency, it makes it easy to apply evenly! The cost sucks but for these results I dont mind paying a bit extra! :D

I do not like this product.
Pro:
It smells really nice, like a ice cream parlor.
Cons:
Consistency- People frequently describe this as "snotty", which is apt... it is like thick egg whites. Parts of it are more coagulated than others, and so it is sort of chunky, which made it hard for me to distribute properly.
Initial Effect- It actually straightened my hair. I would get out of the shower with dripping wet hair, apply a little of the KCKT, and then started to smooth the stuff on in sections as the video shows. It would actually take my hair and smooth it out so that it was totally straight, and it took a ton of scrunching and raking and shaking and combing (all of which made it frizzy) to get it to curl back up. I have never had another product do that.
While drying: I air dry my hair; it just cannot handle diffusing. I don't think it took longer to dry than normal, but it felt really gross while drying. It wanted to stick to everything. Normally I have slimy hair when it is drying, so I am used to the "product drying" feel, but this was different.
Final result- a couple of curls were totally awesome. They were bouncy, shiny, and frizz-free. The rest was a mix of completely dry, fractured curls and flaky nastiness. I actually had visible white dust rise every time I moved my head (I asked peopl who I knew would tell me the truth, and not just tell me it looked fine, and they said that they could see a little Pigpen halo around me).
I used this with only the products from the line, and I forced myself to use it several times with several different amounts. It never worked for me.

I tried this product about 5-6 years ago and didn't like it. It gave me problems with shrinkage. I completely forgot about it and repurchased it a few days ago. Then it all came back to me. Here are my observations.
Pros:
No frizz
Beautiful shine
Crunch can be scrunched out
Cons:
Too much shrinkage
Defined curls, but the particular curl pattern this makes is not desirable to me
Roots were flat/wavy and seemed plastered to my head
Hair looks wet even when dry (as others have mention, it's the outdated Jheri Curl look)
Takes very long to dry. I have very fine BSL hair and it took 6 hours for my hair to dry
The worst downside for me is that I get no second day hair. It was frizzy and felt product-y.
I'm glad I tried it but I would not buy it or use it again. I have found my HG in another product, so I will be sticking with that.

This product gave my curls definition in little time after my big chop. It smells great but it has a very slimy texture and it can be sticky. the best advice is to really make sure your hair is clean and wet or it will be a sticky mess. At first I could not get with the consistency of the custard but I tried it again differently. This time I tried on soaking wet hair and my curls were beautifully defined and the curls looked bigger! I like to use KCCC as a gel on top of AG recoil which I use as a curl creme. It seems to work best for me that way. I don't have a problem with the KCCC being too heavy and weighing my 2B hair down, I find that it works just the opposite leaving me with alot of shrinkage making my short hair look even shorter which sometimes isn't a good thing. I like the ingredient list and the fact that I can pick it up at Target for $16.99. The price is a litte steep but a little will go a long way. Overall it's a great product that I keep in my rotation. I also think that it keeps the AG recoil from drying out my hair.

I've been using KCCC for a couple of years now. It was the best thing to happen to my TWA, and it continues to be a major staple in my hair care arsenal, esp in the summer months. What I also love about this gel is that it has great control and definition without the crunchy feeling. Highly recommended, despite the high price tag.

I am 20 years old,my curl type is mostly 3c, 3b in spots, and I am mixed. My dad is black and my mom is white. My mom never knew the right products to get for my hair. I used to use this cheap $2.50 hair lotion found in, what I like to call, the black corner section of Wal-Mart. Plus, I hated my curls so I used to relax it thinking it would make my hair, as I like to say, "white-girl status". Then, I met my boyfriends older sister, who is also mixed, black and mexican, and she informed me I dont need to relax my hair to get it to do what I want. She had me try DevaCurl products which were just Okay. They didnt give me that wow factor I was looking for. A week after trying DevaCurl, I was looking through OK! magazine and saw an add for Kinky-Curly found at Whole Foods Markets. I went the next day. That was about 5 months ago and I have never loved anything more. I also pair it with the Knot Today and Spiral Spritz. It leaves my curls more defined and really soft. I still have the same jar from 5 months ago, and its only half way gone. I just dip all four fingers in the custard and rub it around on my hands to evenly distribute it through my hair. I have almost no frizz...its awesome. :) Plus, it smells really good, too!!!

After reading reviews last night I went straight to Target after work and picked it up. It is a bit pricey ($16.99) but I was desperate for something to work. My hair is 3c very tight at the roots and because of a lot of blow-drying the ends have lost some of the curl. Well I can't give a complete 2 thumbs up since this is my first day using it and my hair is not totally dry yet, but I like what I see so far. My hair would dry and retain no product or moisture and poof out. So far it looks really good..... fingers crossed.

I love i love i love this product along with the knot today. This is the only product that really definds my curls the BEST and gives me a good hold & i have 3c/4a & a little of 3b type hair . This product does make my hair shrink up a bit but no worries if you dont mind putting a liitle heat on your head. I use my blow dryer to strecth out my curls & it comes out great. if you appy to much it can make you hair crunchy but the crunchyness doesnt bother me at all but If you purchase the kinky curly gloss pomade it helps with the shrinkage and gets rid of the crunch and gives you shiny soft curls. I even got geat results in 2nd, 3rd and 4th day hair which is awesome.. Its worth the money!

i bought this based on the great reviews and the best of the best reward, but it didn't work so well for me. I like how it made my curls look longer, but it made them more undefined... which is not what I wanted. Also I can't stand the smell and the feel of it, I just didn't like this product.
I think my hair texture is too soft for this, it's probably better for people with really tight , kinky curls.

I tried this product and was not happy. I have kinky type 4ab hair and it was a hot mess on my hair. After washing my hair I used it for my two strand twist out. It was sticky and took forever to dry. When it did dry it was flaky with white stuff all over my head. I washed it out and will not use this product again. I did however like the Kinky-Curky Knot to Day detangler.

This product is amazing! I had been meaning to try it for some time so when I spotted it at whole foods I snatched it up. As soon as I got it home, I could not resist playing with it on my dry hair. Obviously it did not distribute as evenly as it would on wet hair, but it soothed my frizz and softened my strands immediately. Several reviews warned against using too much product so for the first use on wet hair I followed the recommended instructions and finger combed a small dollop through, scrunched, and air-dried. While my hair was shiny and smooth, my curls were limp and stringy. For the second use on wet hair I followed my instincts and my usual hair routine. I co-washed my hair (with my head tilted forward), rinsed with cold water, and gently detangled with a wide-toothed comb. Then I scrunched in about 3 tablespoons of the curling custard. I allowed my hair to air dry, gently scrunched out the crunch, and was left with gorgeously defined, voluminous, soft, & frizz-free curls that resulted in equally amazing second-day hair. The heavenly vanilla scent reminds me of cupcakes and smells good enough to eat (and normally I'm not big on dessert fragrances). The texture is a bit weird to get used to (um...kind of like...snot?) but easily glides over strands and coats evenly. There is absolutely no tackiness, stickiness, or other grossness after scrunching out the crunch...just beautiful curls... <3
I love the jar :) no messing with tubes or pumps or spritzers! Oh, and the ingredients are great and cruelty-free! You may have to experiment a bit to get your technique for this product just right but for me it was totally worth it- holy grail product!

I love all the Kinky - Curly products! I just turned 50 and for the first time in my life, I am regularly wearing my hair loose! It still looks good when I wake up in the morning. For a few days all I have to do is throw some water on my head with my hands, put a quarter-size of leave-in conditioner, comb it through and I'm good to go! Saving so much time in the morning. LOVE IT!!!

I have very kinky hair and it didn't work for me. It looked okay but it was really sticky and it takes a whole day for it to completely dry. When it does dry it has a cross between a tacky and dry, crunchy feeling. I tried it a few times to make sure this wasn't for me as it is very expensive so I didn't want to waste it but unfortunately it's a no go.

No matter what I use underneath, I always finish with KCCC on top. If I had to choose only one product, this would be it. I would use it as my only product but it takes so long to dry, so I use other products, let dry 50% and then a little KCCC on top. It is unique.

I have mixed feelings about KCCC. It's overall a really good product, I'm just not so big a fan. I hate the consistency of it because it's so sticky and takes forever to dry which translates into me having wet sticky hair for the entire day and then some. It also means that refreshing my hair with water is out of the question, because then my hair just becomes sticky again. I'm also not a fan of the price. It does however give my hair (4a/3c) the best definition of any product I've tried, but......the shrinkage is out of control. Nonetheless, if you don't mind shrinkage and your hair dries relatively fast, it's a pretty great option and it definitely does what it says. After I gave up on it, I gave it to my mom, who likes it alot. It defines her hair with a more even look (She has 4 different curl patterns on her head: 4b/3b/4a/3c), and her hair soaks it up and dries much faster than mine.

I could not wait to try this product after reading the reviews. Most of the reviews raved about the results while some said that the results were inconsistent. The first time I tried KCCC, I got amazing results. My curls had never looked better. I thrilled and though I had finally found my staple product. However, I could not get those same results again. I tried numerous times, adjusting the amount that I applied, doing it without the conditioner in, etc. It would come out way too flat, sticky, frizzy. Super disappointed.

I love how the product REALLY defines my curls...the only product I know (so far) that can do that. First time I tried it was with the Knot today as a leave in and applied the custard after and let it airdry...people mistakened my style as a jheri curl! My hair was VERY flat and I think it weighed it down. Later, I did the same thing and used it with a diffuser and it looked much better (but not as much volume as I wanted), but I will definitely be using this again.

It definately moisturizes your hair and defines your curls, however I was displeased with the end results that it gave my twa. It seems like it shrunk my hair more. I also didn't like how it flakes the next day. It is good for one day twist out though, but you will have to deal with the flakes in your hair. I think I will try it again when my hair gets some length.

I started my natural hair journey in December 2011, so it has been 3 months and $$$ later. I tried other products but none work as well for me as KCCC. I had to learn the right amount to use which also helped with the drying time. This product gives me the best curl definition and lasts for the entire week with one application. A small amount of Knot Today and then a little KCCC put on small sections of my hair from root to end works amazingly well. I only have to re-wet with a small amount of water the next day to bring my curls back to life after sleeping with my satin bonnet of course. My hair is soft and moisturized and looks great.

To be fair the list of ingredients are pretty good. The product defined my curls very well and they were nice and soft when dried. The downsides were that I couldn't follow the directions on the jar or on the tutorial video. I had to go though a bit of trial and error to find the right technique to apply the product to my hair to get the results I was looking for and that the product promised. Some people might be ok with this but I did get frustrated with the trial and error. The second downside was the drying time. I know drying times may vary from person to person depending on their hair but it took my hair a day, sometimes a day and a half, to dry completely. Again some people may not have a problem with this but for me being a busy students as well as a group fitness instructor and personal trainer I have busy schedule and can't wait around for my hair to dry. I realize that I could use a hair dryer to speed up the drying process but I prefer not to use heat on my hair. Again some people may very well be ok with this. Bottom line, I would have rated this product higher if it wasn't so hard for me to use and if it didn’t take so long to dry. It’s not for me but hopefully it can work for you.

I have a love/hate relationship with KCCC. I love the way it makes my hair look but the feel isn't great....It can be sticky and/or crunchy. What i also love about this product is that it keeps my hair looking pretty good for about 3 or 4 days (just dampening my hair a little each morning). This product is moisturizing and gives great definition. After I BC'd I was able to get 2nd day hair from wash n' go's. I expected a lot from this product but it did not quite fulfill my expectations. I bought it in Canada for $41.45. The price was very off-putting. It's smells great! I applied the product in small sections by hand and with a denman brush. I felt it gave my hair good definition and shine but the product was very stick and left a tack feeling on my hands, back of my neck, etc. It took over a whole day to dry and when it did dry it felt crispy and dry. I the final look was not too bad but the feel was not good enough. I did not use the Knot Today leave-in conditioner so that may have affected my results as well.

I didn't try this product sooner because there weren't many reviews from 2c-3a girls like me and because of complaints about drying time. Then CurlMart accidentally sent me a jar and told me just to keep the order after I informed them of the mistake. Well, Curling Custard has changed my life. My hair has never looked or felt this good, and I can go three days with no touch ups. I diffuse using the pixie-curl method, which gives excellent results and takes care of the drying time issue. For my over-processed, very coarse hair, I leave in Deva Care One Condition (Knot Today is not rich enough), then use the Custard (had to experiment on amounts) and then put some curl keeper on the canopy. Fabulous results!

So I just used this for the first time and it worked great! I was VERY skeptical...I haven't gotten my hair to curl w/o frizz for years. But I dried my hair a little with a receiving blanket (just realized that towels cause frizz), and put the product in and air dry almost all the way. I could have kept it that way, but there wasn't much volume so I diffused it a little. But my hair is CURLY and NO frizz!!! MIRACLE! I thought my hair was a 2c, but right now it looks like a 3!!!!! This product is a winner! Not only was my hair not poofy but the second day I barely had to touch my hair because it still looked so good. The fact that it's natural is a plus and it smells super good. Like candy almost. A little goes a long way so just make sure to evenly distribute the product with a brush. The only down fault is that the hair is crunchy and a little hard when dry. But nothing is perfect

I love this product on my 3b fine thin curly hair. I live in Hawaii aka 100 percent humidity, hot, sweaty days with a lot of heavy heavy jungle rain storms lol. This product keeps my hair ALL day long. I work with military so I am constantly running literally and it keeps my curls in tact while feeling soft to the touch. It took me about two weeks to figure out exactly how much to put in each section of hair but once I did I will never use another product. I have soft pretty curls that I have never had before. She only uses the highest quality ingredients. I looked up all of them :) and each ingredient is awesome and very conditioning for your hair. Also I noticed this product works the best when used only with other kinky curly products. (I use the entire line)

In Dec 2010 I chopped off my relaxed ends after a 26 month transition. I have been using this product for about a month now. I do not use KCKT underneath and I have had great results. My hair holds up 3-4 days as long as I wrap it up at night. I refresh with KC Spiral Spritz as needed on days 2-4. If I do not feel like washing on day 4 I twist at night and remove the next morning. I do, however, add oils or some moisturizing cream daily.

I have been using this product for almost a year now. I absolutely love curling custard!! This is by far the BEST hair styling product I have ever used. Like others have already mentioned it does not play well with other products. You have to commit to only using this and knot today but it is completely worth it. When I first got the curling custard I figured I would use it only on the days I left my hair down and use my cheap gels the rest of the time. Big mistake. Nothing worked for me during the week I tried that. Since then I have only used curling custard and knot today and I have not looked back. I absolutely think it's worth the price since I was constantly changing products before because I was never really happy with anything. These products give me second and even third (or MORE!) day hair which I could not do before. I can also wash my hair the evening before and wake up and restyle with a bit of curling custard and BAM! I'm ready to go. No blow drying (which always meant poofy bad hair for me) and no wet head for half the day. I am so in love with this stuff. And yeah, it truly has changed my life and my relationship with my hair. Sounds crazy but it's so true! I was always so worried about being a health professional and having to wait for hours for my hair to dry and look good before work etc etc. This stuff has been a life saver for me. So happy I bought it and so thankful for naturallycurly.com for making me aware of it. =)))))

I, like many others, have a love, hate relationship with this product. It smells lovely and has a great consistency. It also does exactly what it says: it defines my curls beautifully. The hate part; It absolutely does not play well with other products. It can be drying. It is very sticky. It leaves my hair crunchy and flaky. I have an enormous amount of shrinkages. Even after washing with the come clean shampoo and a pinch of baking soda my hair still flaked and I do not have a lot of build up. I know it has worked well with others and I still use it, but consider the cons before purchasing.

This is probably my new staple styling product. it gave my hair a superior hold without the crunchiness and i was able to get 5 days out of the style. I definitely had love hate relationship with this product. I got my hair cut right at my chin and needed something to define my curls since I could no longer wear my hair in a ponytail. This was awesome at first....the more and more I used it though, I noticed that it started to make my hair really crunchy and hard. I found the gloss pomade that I scrunched in my hair which helped tremendously but didnt give me 3rd or 4th day hair. At night i do the "pineapple" routine and just shake it down in the morning, my boyfriend had to start ducking for cover due to all the flakes lol. This product is extremely sticky as well. The only pro is that it smells good. The many cons are that it FLAKES like it's nobody's business. I have tried at least 7 different ways, and no matter what it still flakes. More water, less products, you name it, it flakes. It also dries my hair out, makes my scalp itch, and TAKES ALL DAY TO DRY. Normally, my 4B hair dries relatively quickly regardless of the product I use. However, curling custard takes no less than 24hrs to dry. However, the worst part is the flaking and dryness. I really wanted to make this a staple product too :(

I do not think I likethis product much... after hearing a lot! about this gel I wanted to believe in this slimy gel, but it let me down. I was shocked when i put my finger in the jar and it was slimy... i wasn't expecting that. I did what the directions said... and my hair felt weird... i let it dry and my curls were not elongated but more stiff stringy looking. I'll admit my hair had shine but I couldn't imgaine what my whole head would look lie with this product. As far defining it did a good job but after completly drying it didn't have the moist look that i would recieve from Blnded beauty or shea moisture line. All in all... I finally convinced myself to forefit the extra cash and try this touted gel out for myself. And I'm glad I did. I should first say that I applied this over the KC Knot Today leave-in first, as the instructions suggested. It becomes apparent when you start seeking professional quality products that they all tend to deliever the same results, and I can say that for this gel it really does stand out from the crowd. Noticable shine, bouncy popped curls, softness, agreeable ingredients, and what really convinced me of the gel's performance was how I was not only able to go for 4-5 days before washing, but that my hair maintained it's nice appearance. It was almost freaky in a way! Now, I will say this. If I could I would have given this 4.5 stars for these reasons- my hair tool a lot longer to airdry, putting the gel over the leave-in gave my hair a funny squeaky texture (but goes away when dry), and it is indeed a little on the expensive side (even for a professional quality gel), but I find these complaints to be somewhat trivial when it came to the final results which made me round up! I would definitely buy this product again.

I'll give it a 2.5 for starters. The product worked well, it gave curl definition and actually transformed the hair on my head. I felt as though I'd stolen someone's good curly weave. However, the drying is a bust. I can't wait all day for my hair to dry and I've noticed that my hair, well maybe it used to, hold alot of water, taking a long time to dry. I even scrunched with a cotton t-shirt hoping that would diminish drying time. No way. But I will say: good ingredients, curl definition and hold. Bad drying time. Not repurchasing. Will pursue other gels that dry faster and quicker with same level of or better ingredients.

A mousse-user since a child, I liked the shine, definition and hold it gave me but not the crunch. I tried deva angel as my 3b/c curls were "curly enough" to not need the arcangel, but I felt the curls were too...clumped for my liking. It looks like doll hair to me. Reading about KCCC, I decided to try the whole line. I LOVE it. Smells good but not too strong. A little goes a long ways unlike deva. Even though it seems expensive, I think it won't be more than my $4 mousse was given I don't need much at all. I did use it over KnotToday given what I read online. I also used the gloss afterwards to sotc with a great effect. It's the shine, definition and volume of mousse without the crunch and badness for my curls. Plus, my boyfriend also likes it on his 4a/b curls. He's also trying the no-poo with me and liking it.

I really like, excuse me, LOVE how this product helps my curls pop! I never needed any help defining my curls but frizz and shine were my sworn enemies. With KCCC in my arsenal, the battle against frizz and dull curls has been won. I hesitate in giving it 5 curls because the product did not decrease my shrinkage at all but thankfully I'm perfectly alright with the shrinking phenomenon.

This is not your traditional gel. The name is a little misleading. This will not hold a style in place like the normal alcohol based gel. What this will do is define your curls. Although if you use too much like i did the first time, you do get crunchy curls. Don't over use this product unless you enjoy the crunchy shrinking curls. I reapplied the product the next day (using less) and my curls are super defined, less crunchy and i can't stop playing with my hair. I found my new fav!

I get great definition with the product, the consistency is a bit odd, however the smell is great. Only problem i have is that the first day after the product is applied takes long to dry and gives a wet and wavy/jherri curl look. Otherwise makes my hair very defined.

It took me a while to learn how to put it in and, since I didn't put it in right, the first couple of weeks my hair was dry and not very curly. HOWEVER! One of my mom's friends, who also uses the product, came to the rescue and showed me how to put it in correctly. Since then, it been curly, beautiful, and holding in moisture like a pro! I would (and HAVE) recommend this to anyone.

I don't usually write reviews, but this product deserves a shout out. I have had this in my beauty closet for a long while and have tried to use it with little success until recently. This most recent attempt is on collar-bone length hair and I applied the product to moisturized, but completely DRY hair. I then put my hair in 2-strand twists and the next morning. Voila! Sumptuous, well-defined curls. 1st day hair felt sticky and not as full as I prefer, but throughout the day it fluffed up more and day 2 hair is GREAT! Now at day 3 and hair still looks good. Hopefully my next attempt will go as well, because I would love to make this one of my HG products as the botanical ingredients are some of my faves:-)

My mother had a jar of this and offered to let me try some. I really liked the results I got from doing a finger twist/coiled style. And since my hair is so short it gave the curls a lot of definition. I got a lot of compliments and pleasant stares after trying this out for the first time. I was very pleased with how moisturized my hair felt even after a whole day. The curls didn't fall or dry out. But the style was pliable so i could rearrange my style and it still looked great. (I like to play in my hair) However, it wasn't a complete love affair. My mother told me that after I applied to gel once all i would have to do the next day was spray down my hair and re-twist it. This did not work. The gel wouldn't set again and the curls didn't take at all after i sprayed down my hair. I ended up having to apply more gel anyway. After just 2 or 3 days there was a gunky build-up in my curls that, I was told, no one else could see but I could feel it and it was icky. I had problems washing it out. Now this may be because I make my own shampoo using castile soap as its cleaning agent but usually when I use my shampoo i have no problems cleaning my hair. But this stuff wouldn't come out. I ended up having to scrub down my scalp with pure castile soap. (I refuse to use harsh detergents on my hair and so this may not be a problem for people who use other types of shampoo) Afterwards my mother told me that in order for me to reap the full benefit of the Kinky Curly Custard I would probably have to buy the entire system and only use their shampoo, conditioner, and gel. Seeing as this stuff isn't cheap I am declining to test her theory. I really do like the curling results of this product. It gives great moisture and allows versatility I would probably try is again. But I would probably also have to reformulate my shampoo recipe to make sure i can wash it out if it gunks up again. But I'm not sure if I'm willing to put in the effort, or if I can afford to wash my hair everyday. But I've also heard that the results aren't typical. This product worked wonders for my 8yr old sister's hair and my mother uses castile soap on her hair too.

I have tried many products since becoming a naturally curly girl. This is the only product that will keep my curls bouncing, no frizz, and defined. I use it with Knot Today. I put a little coconut oil on the ends of my hair after applying the custard. I scrunch my hair all over. If I over-apply the product, usually I can run my hands through my hair and it will eliminate the crunch. I think it is because I apply the coconut oil. However, at times I do need the Kinky Curly Pomade which is a permanent implant in my purse. I also use the Kinky Curly Come Clean once a month to shampoo. I am a Kinky Curly girl for life. I recently tried the Midnight Miracle. Although I believe I am protein sensitive, the product once rinsed out leaves my hair shiny and full of bouncy curls. It took me awhile to find the right amount of curling custard to apply but once I did, my hair was amazing!!!

Knot today, tomorrow or ever again. Not really sure how I convinced myself to pay $30 for a STYLING GEL, but I did. There are so many other great products that are out there that is less expensive. This product is like slapping ECO styler on your hair, no joke, except you save about $25. This left my hair with a gummy feel, weighted, and crunchy. I felt like I was suffocating my hair. My curls are no more defined than they normally are with my cheaper products. I will not be buying this again and will definitely not recommend this to my clients. Please, in this economy, save your money and continue to use what your hair likes. There is no reason to spend $30 on gel; such a waste of money. Only reason I gave them a two was because the one good thing about this product is the company created a good buzz (can't be mad at that). Oh yeah, they use natural products too. Let me not forget that. My jar is on sale on eBay for $5 if you want it (I only used it twice).

This product works great! I gave great definition to my curls, and had amazing hold. The only reason I withheld a curl is because I used tons of the Knot Today, and still got the crunch factor. Fortunately, the first style I used it on is ok with crunchiness, but I will have to figure out something else to use it while my hair is loose. I like this much better than Miss Jessie's if for no other reason than the ingredient list. But it also one ups Miss Jessie's because of a lack of residue.

Love that it is made with mostly bontanical ingredients - makes it worth. The cost

I keep going back for more of this product. It's one of the best I've tried so far in my quest to find the best product for my curls. It's lightweight, dries quickly, dries clear (when applied correctly and over the right amount and type of leave-in), the style lasts for a few days, and there are no heavy perfumes or odors associated with it.

Love love love this product. Took me three tries to figure it out and the solution for me was to rinse the "knot today" out and not use it as a leave in (my hair DOES NOT like KCKT and KCCC together) but when I use KCKT rinse it and use KCCC OOOOoooo what wonderful curls I get. FYI Hair does have to be dripping wet if you have thick/coarse hair when applied other wise curls will not form properly. This is one product where if you follow the instructions, it will work like magic.

I wanted to love it-especially at $18 a jar-but I just can't, and I've tried following all of the advice on the Internet/Youtube. You have to put it on sopping wet hair, and I don't use a hair dryer, so my hair takes FOREVER to dry, and it's crunchy, flat and lifeless when it does. The worst part? It actually causes my hair to tangle something fierce. Unlike most curlies, I don't have a problem with tangling at all (and I live in the Windy City). When I wash my hair the next day after using this product, I actually have trouble combing my hair while it's wet, which is a first. It smells good and it isn't tested on animals, but you can't use it with any other leave-ins besides the Knot Today. Back to Aveda Confixor for me-I'm sorry I spent my money on this.

I'm still testing this stuff, you have to get the balance right. but you do its amazing! The stuff gives amazing hold, and all the ingredients are organic. This works amazing with Knot Today, I have complete control of my hair and how much hold I have. People say the only thing is it doesn't tackle frizz, but I've found using with a generous amount of Knot Today on those frizzy areas is what tackles it.
When its drying its crunchy but when its completely dry the crunch goes and the curls pop! Also if you think your hair is taking too long to dry you problem didn't apply enough CCustard.

I adore this product. This was fun of my first major buys on my quest for defined curls. This product is great at defining curls with minimal shrinkage and without the harsh crunchiness of gel. I apply at the beginning of the week in the shower to drenched hair and let it air dry. At night I wrap my hair with a satin scarf then in the morning spritz with water and fluff. One application will last from Sunday to Friday without buildup. Hair will rinse clean with water and is removed easily from hair.

So, when i decided to spend my allowance and then some on this product i was afraid it wasn't going to work, but i said hey yes i spent 62 dollars on three things but these three things also got great reviews. but i ended up trying it and i love the smell of it the knot today did what it was supposed to do. and the curling custard is awesome when i first put it on i was very happy with it. i did and am experiencing some shrinkage and my hair is hard but im not that worried about that. what i was worried about is how bad you could see my relaxed ends but surprisingly you can't or my mom just did a crappy job when she last did them in january before i said i don't want it any more. looking at my still damp hair...it did shrink but its alot better then i expected, i was bracing my self for the worst, so all in all it was and is a pretty good product but very expensive.

I previously wrote a review for Deva AnGEL in which I said that it was the best I'd been able to find so far, but that was before I'd tried this stuff. Although this makes my hair crunchy as it's drying, once I scrunch it out, it feels soft and the best part is that this gel is made from natural ingredients. I have had terrific curls when since I've been using this. The only down side is that I've ended up with some fluffiness, but I don't think that anything can really stand up to 90+ degree heat very well, so I still give this product the highest rating.

I do really love KCCC - I tend to use it when I plop or diffuse, as it takes ages to air dry. I get good hold, shine, and definition; not great clumpage (but then hardly anything does that for my hair). It can leave finer hair a little crunchy, but this scrunches out easily for me. Gorgeous smell. Bit pricey, but you don't need to use much. Overall, it's great.

This product definitely gives defined curls and strong hold, but my hair looked product-y despite scrunching the heck out of it, and the fact that it will probably flake if it is used with anything other than Knot Today is a problem for me as I love to use different products (and yes it did flake for me). I'm aware that I probably put too much, but the truth is, I don't need to worry about the amount I put with other, cheaper gels. Consensus: Finicky and overpriced.

I did my homework before i bought it && i used very little (becuase a little goes a long way) && i used it underneath the kninky curly knot today && i got great resultsss no frizz even after i diffused & defines every curl && leaves shine. Don't let the name "kinky curly" scare you. I'm a wavy girl 2B and 3A curly on a really good day - no where near kinky and barely curly. This stuff gave me true corkscrews. I used to take my soft bouncy 3a-3b frizz-free curls for granted - until they disappeared a couple of years ago. For reasons still unknown, my hair became dry, frizzy and my curls started to drop out. I tried everything to fix the problem but it seemed to get worse.I then stumbled on this website and learnt my hair could be protein sensitive. After reading lots of reviews, I decided to try this product - and I am so glad I did!! After just one use, my curls were back!! I use a little bit of Knot Today underneath and leave my hair to dry natuarlly. Your hair may feel like it's drying crunchy - don't panic! Simply scrunch and you will have beautiful soft bouncy curls and the crunch disappears. I have now been using this regime for nearly 2mths (I am only halfway through the 16oz tub)and my hair seems to get better everyday. I (and my husband) are so happy to have my curls back! The only downside is that I live in Australia, so the postage is a bit expensive - but so worth it!!

NOT GOOD AT ALL! This did nothing to my hair except maybe make it a little tighter, contrary to what it says. I get much better results from using just conditioner or flax seed/aloe vera gel.
What's worse is I wouldn't recommend this for anyone with allergies. Not because of the ingredients but because it will go bad, QUICKLY and mold grows, even if you can't see it. I had a pretty weird reaction to it which caused me to throw it out. What a waste of money.
Probably better if you have much looser hair (possible thicker too since I have fine, tight, 4a strands) though - like the person who designed it,which is why I gave it 2 curls.

I love this product. It takes me from fro to flo in minutes. It dries just like it originally looks. The first try was no cigar, but I figured out from other reviewers that I must leave-in a generous amount of the Knot Today conditioner and the owner's YouTube video says the same---voila, it worked wonders! Instead of a puff, KC shrinks my fro down to a wavy, wash n wear style in minutes. OMG!!!! ;) I should add that it works on totally natural 4a hair and on the semi-relaxed wavy ends I have which is nice if you're transitioning.

4a/3c. I love this product. I tried it for the first time yesterday! I followed the instructions on the Kinky-Curly website. Which means I also used the Kinky-Curly shampoo and Knot Today before applying the custard. And I LOVE the result. My curls are defined, my hair is shiny and full. The only drawback is the drying time. But I think it's well worth it. Also, I didn't have to do much of anything to refresh my look this morning. I slept with a satin scarf last night and I just fluffed my hair with a little water. Also, I like the fact that the ingredients are natural.

This product just came in the mail yesterday, and I already love it. I have a lot of 3c hair, and my curls are so defined. It was a little crunchy at first, but I scrunched a little oil on it and it became soft. This is day 2, and my curls are still defined. I woke up and fluffed my curls. Sprayed a little water to freshen up and was good to go. I like it because it was natural, and it didn't take as long to dry as I read it would. All the reviews said don't use a lot, so I didn't. I just got the little 8 oz, and I barely put a dent in it. I haven't bought the knot today yet, it has been out of stock. But I am very pleased with the results. So all in all, I would definately by this product again and would recommend to others. It has great hold, and isn't stiff. My curls are defined, and shiny. I love it!!

I wouldn't buy this again. I believe it had too much hold for my hair (which is 2c in the front and 3c elsewhere). It also made my hair crunchy, even when used with Knot Today and Carol's Daughter Hair Elixir. It also flaked as the day went on. It works well on my roommate's 4a hair though.

I really like this product. It defines my curls (3c-4a) really well and it works well for slicking back my hair too. It does dry to a very firm and crunchy hold if you use too much. I use a generous amount of the Knot Today leave with a little coconut oil then add a dime size of the curling custard and that's really enough. It's great to be able to use so little when I usually have to pile on a cream or other gel to get the same result. It's easy to get carried away for the fore-mentioned reason, so you have to resist putting more and let it work. Yes, it does takes a long time to dry, which makes sense, it has all natural ingredients and no alcohol like other gels which are so drying to my hair. For me it's a fair trade off.I can always use a diffuser on cool to dry.

This product is the best thing I could've bought for my hair. I found it at Whole Foods and purchased an all-natural conditioner with no silicones or alcohols in it called Earthly Delights for all hair types. I washed and detangled with this and rinsed, next got a quarter size of conditioner for each half of my hair and put it through to leave in.
A little of this KCCC really goes a long way. I used a dime size amount per inch section of my hair and raked it through with my fingers and it defined quickly and easily. I sat under the hood low heat then pull stretched my hair with a blow dryer and my hair looks very shiny and defined with tons of movement. its not stiff or sticky. this is the best my hair has ever looked. will definately keep using it.

I'm torn with this product. Sometimes I get great curl definition and results, other times, I'm disappointed. More often than not, I'm disappointed, simply because I could never use the perfect amount of the KKCC and Knot Today to attain the results I had at some other point. It just seems too challenging and recently, the KKCC hasn't been binding my curls together for the perfect curl definition I seek and have when I get it 'just right.' I hate this guessing game...I never know when it will work out for me. As it stands now, I love the moisture I get. Though I hate the hair shrinkage and lack of volume it presents. I'm conflicted by it and still haven't decided whether I love it, hate it, or don't care for it.

First of all, was hesitant about giving this product 5 curls because it's so expensive! HOWEVER, to me it's worth the investment! I bought the 17 dollar container at Jovance Salon in San Pablo. I am so amazed at how little of amount of product I need to apply to make it do what I've been longing for it to do! It's gonna be a while 'til I run out, and I'm not sharing with anyone.
With other products I would have to use a lot get it in shape. Normally, after the 4th day, I would be half way finished with the container. With Kinky Curly, I haven't even made a dent!
I just carefully followed the instructions after CO-Washing with Aubrey's Honeysuckle, then applied a decent amount like a teaspoon of the Knot Today, I finger thru my hair from root to ends instead of comb-out then applied the pudding (about a tablespoon amount),fingeredagain, and smoothed my kitchens with castor oil, and wah laa! I was smiling again!
Now, I'm on day 6 since I've used it. After the 4th day, I didn't even put any of the product in. I just freshen it up with a spritz bottle full of Castor Oil, Distilled Water, and a couple drops of little fragrant oil (castor oil stinks), and my curls are well defined, elongated, fresh and glossy. I think
I found a keeper!!!

Almost a 5 curl rating! I was hesitant to buy this product simply because of the name (kinky curly) which I am not, nor thought I could coax out of my hair. And the description noting that this "elongates" the hair. I was looking for something to jack up the curl and definition. This is it! I didn't find it to be sticky, goopy, gunky, or crunchy. I have only been CG for 3 weeks, but my hair looks SO much better using this. I even got a compliment from a stranger which never happens to me. I am definitely looking a little more curly. Great curl formation, bouncy, shiny, non-poufy or frizzy, waves/curls. I used about a dime sized amount on each 4 sections of my APL hair, and it was just about enough. And I am one to usually use about 1/4 cup of product to try to weigh it down.I felt sassy today! Try this one wavy girls!

I would really give this a 4 1/2 if it were available. This product does exactly what it is supposed to do. It defines my curls evenly, that includes the front of my hair which is really more wavy than curly and refuses to curl under any other circumstances. My curls are always shiny and elongated. I only have two issues, I don't care how I've tried I can't get rid of the crunch after it dries. My second issue is that sometimes my hair feels a little dry especially if I use it without Knot Today. But despite those two things this a fantastic product for wash and go hair.

I bought this and resold twice. It works great, if I do it *just* right, but I don't have the time or patience to mess with a finicky product, so off it went to a new home. Love the smell, though, and when it worked it did give me fantastic definition and hold. The problem was I never seemed to be able to get it to work consistently.

I got very nice curl definition, slightly elongated curls, bounce and great frizz control with this curling custard. I used this after applying Qhemet Biologics' Burdock Root Butter Cream. I have mostly 4a w/ 3c textures; however, this styling gel helped my textures appear more uniform. I'm very impressed, although it did take my hair twice as long to air dry than usual. I also had a tad bit of crunch; no biggie, a little scrunching and fluffing took care of that. It's a winner!! Thank goodness it comes in an 8oz jar considering it's rather pricey!!!

this stuff is great but I didnt give it 5 curls for the learning curve...I've been using it for about 2 months now & I think I've finally got how I want my curls to look...this is what I do...I apply At Night...after washing & co, I ring out the excess water with my hands...then section by section I put this stuff on, about a nickel /quarter size, depending on the size of the piece of hair....I let it air dry for about anhour or two b4 I got to bed...its crunchy when I go to bed, but when I wake up, its super soft & all I have to do is touch up the top frizzies (I just add some more kccc on top)...its a little annoying to learn the right way to use this stuff but its the only stuff that leaves my hair soft and defined with a little frizz (not comepletely gone) but manageable.

I'm so disappointed in this product, for which I had high hopes.
I would apply the styling gel to my hair while wet for twisting purposes and it would either leave my hair crunch and hard or I would have to wait two days for it to air dry.
The custard also left some type of white residue in my hair. I ended up giving a $30 bottle away for free to a friend who wanted to try it.

Wow! This stuff is the real deal. LOVE IT! My hair is thickish, doesn't get weighed down, and is very dense; I say this because it takes 5-6 hours to dry w/ no product in it. This stuff delivers frizz-free, shiny!, hair. No crunch. There is significant shrinkage, but I just sleep on it or pull the curls down to stretch them. THere are only 2 caveats: the smell is unpleasant, but others love it. And the price! But it's worth it. I can LOAD this into my hair and no goopy feel. Defintely worth a try for anyone looking for a great frizz beater.

I am enjoying what I am seeing with this product. Granted I've just started using it but it was lighter than Curly Pudding and heavier than Mixed chicks. Just what my 3C hair needs. I do watch how much I put because as other have noted it does go a long way. You don't need a lot. I think I will be using this for quite awhile and looking forward to trying the Knot today. I also love that it's natural and has no mineral oil.

I Love this product and so does my hair. I bought it from Whole foods a year ago after watching the reviews on Youtube. Many times I have bought made or tried products that claim to drfine my 3c hair and fail. But this one is the only product (used in conjuction with the leave in conditioner) that defines, holds and smells great. All the ingredients are natural, which is the biggest plus for me. Overall I love love love this product and use it weekly.

I love this product. I'm Puerto Rican and I have a crazy combo of curl types in my hair while still being very fine and I love how this handles them, even my straight parts. I've used Ouidad before and really loved the result, what I didn't love was the price, for 22 dollars a 8oz bottle compared to 17 for the kccc of the same size its a much better value, since both have to be applied on wet hair to work, I love kccc better because a little goes a long way instead of having to saturate the hair with gel like they tell you to do with the ouidad gel.
Highly recommend it!!

I only gave this product 3 curls because of the learning curve, and the drying time. Currently, it only works for me when I wear my hair back in a ponytail. It has great hold, but can get crunchy if you use too much. I have yet to master the loose curls look, (my first attempt was a disaster). My hair looked like a crunchy jheri curl, which isn't the look I was aiming for at all. I don't mind the price because a little goes a long way and this jar will last me forever.. I will probably not repurchase when I'm finished cause i've found another product that does the same thing, and although price isn't an issue to me (if a product is worth it) I'd pick a product with the same results at a cheaper price tag any day..

This is my staple. Perfect ingredients, a little heavy on the hold (it scrunches out easily though), smells ok, texture of product may concern people ( I don't care), better than Miss Jessies Quick Curls, lasts a long time, long drying time.
Users need to apply moisture under (shea butter is my choice), make sure to apply in sections, and add more water than product , this is concentrated. When completely dry, use a nozzle on your blow dryer and stretch out curls for nice , soft hold.

I've been wanting to try this product for a while. When I saw you had it in the 8oz size I decided to try it. I waited a couple of days to see how it works and I do think it moisturizes my hair well, but I really didn't notice any elongating of my curls. Combined with Knot Today I have no frizz but I had to use my Jane Carter Condition and Sculpt with it for more hold. I think I will have to experiment to get the right amount but so far I really like it.

Here's how I have gotten this product to work absolutely perfectly for me. Perfect curls. Every time. I am (cough) 40+ Caucasian with 3a/b curls. Very fine, but lots of hair. It dries quickly, so I have to work quickly. I use a microfiber towel to blot the water from my hair. I then use Knot Today (a little goes a LONG way here, especially when using the KCCC afterward) and run my fingers through to get the tangles out. If there are tangles left, I then run a wide tooth comb through very gently. Next, I dip just the ends of my fingers (just past the first knuckle) and then spread that amount of KCCC all over both hands to smooth it out. I then start at the front of my head and work it in from the roots to the ends. That amount gets me about halfway through, then I load up again (it's only about a dime-sized amount. Not very much) and do the back side of my hair. Then, I work in sections and scrunch each section. If I need to, I can use a diffuser to dry my hair, but my hair dries pretty fast on it's own. I usually end up scrunching it one more time when it's a little more dry to give it just a bit more body. At that point, I leave it alone for the day and I'm good to go. Once it's dry, I can use a pick and fluff it out if I want and get really soft, fluffy curls. It took a lot of trial and error to figure out the way to get it to work for me, but that seems to be the best way for me and now there's no going back to other styling products. I get consistently awesome curls, every day, without having sticky, stiff, or dirty feeling hair.

I love this product, but as others mentioned the quantity you use is very important. I have very thick, kinky-curly. I divide my hair into six soaking wet pieces and pull the product through my hair using a lot of tension. The results are phenomenal. I have yet to try the knot today, and had good results over a co-wash (which KC does not suggest). A little goes a long way, but I am convinced that there has to be a less expensive product that can achieve these results... right?

Initially, I was disappointed by this product; however, I think that was because I'd used too much. Now that I've gotten the amount & technique down, I love this stuff. It defines my curls like mad, and makes my hair shiny, shiny, shiny and oh so soft.
I have long (mid-back) 3a/3b hair that's fine. I apply a dab to soaking wet hair (while still in the shower), finger rake it in, scruch, then just another dab. I plop (about 10-15 min) then diffuser dry. I MUST diffuser dry when I use KCCC, otherwise my hair just hangs and takes FOREVER to dry.
Since I don't need to use a lot of product, this massive jar will last me a good long while ~ I'm thinking about 4 months or so.

I hated this stuff the 1st time I used it (gooey white balls all over my hair)now it's a styling staple. The key was applying in small sections (just like Shelley does it on the KC website) rather than slathering it all over. It works even better with Knot Today underneath, but I've also found it works good with the cheaper (but all natural as well) Giovanni Direct Leave-in. $30 is steep but you should be able to get @ least 2 months (or more) out of a jar. And though there are other gels that are much, much cheaper, which can give you similar results (think Ecostyler or Fantasia IC)this stuff is all natural. No complicated sounding alcohols or parabens.

I'm very happy with this product. I've used it alone and on top of their Knot Today leave-in and get good results either way, although my hair feels softer when I use the leave-in.
The only thing about this product is that you have to find the amount that's right for your hair, and you have to apply it evenly to get good results. But it's worth it! My curls are glossy and well defined, and stay frizz-free for 2 or 3 days. This has become a staple for me.

Absolutely the worst product I have ever used on my 3b/3c hair. It elongated my curls into nothingness and made them stiff besides. I bought this from a store in Dallas and had a hard time finding it. So when I finally found it I was really excitied to try it. as soon as I got home I used it and smells so good. I love the way it smells but when I put it on it was like a gel I was surprised and when it dried it was hard like a gel my hair dries right above my shoulders and it is very thick. So I dontlike my hair to be hard and it made it shrink up alot, which I also didnt like but my husband has short hair and he loves this stuff maybe it's better for shorter hair thats way you dont notice alot of the shrinkage.

This is my favorite styler, and not just because of the ingredients. I am a prduct junkie and will try almost anything, but I am always coming back to this. It actually fulfills its promise of defined curls. It is a bit pricey, but a little goes a long way. I only need a pea-sized amount. I use it over the KC Knot Today and when my hair dries I apply the KC Glossing Pomade over it to add moisture and soften my hair up a bit.
I would have given this product 5 curls if it didn't leave my hair slightly crunchy, but it is a gel, and I have yet to find one that dries soft.

I got this at Whole Foods, after reading so many good reviews about it. Nothing else has worked for me past a couple of uses. It was $26 but since it lasts a long time, it's really not expensive. I got it back in late July and it is about 1/4 to 1/3 gone. I have waist length hair so that is pretty good! At first i didn't use enough, which didn;t hurt my hair but it was soft and fluffy with little definition. I have had the most luck with wetting my hair with Knot Today first, then applying it to my hair in sections...two is fine. Then I scrunch it and leave it alone. I'm left with soft, shiny, elongated but not weighed down ringlets that are bouncy! I'd recommend this product to anyone with curls or waves...it will be my staple for as long as they keep making it! I like the "slimy" texture because it is so easy to spread and distribute, and the smell is subtle and nice. Like vanilla/sugar but not in a sickening way.

I usually agree with the top rated products but I can't make this stuff work for me! The only pro is that is makes my hair soft (oh and it smells delicious). I was worried when I first saw the texture and weight of this product. But I was pleasantly suprised, It distributes well, and disappears into my hair, It seems sticky, but once it dries it is flexible and never crunchy! My curls bounce up! I have quite thick medium textured hair, and this gives me defined chunky curls... I used to be a 2c but with this product I am DEFINITELY a 3!

I am a fine 3b/c/a. Was hesitant about this product and rightly so. I usually like gels but this consistency was a bit different. The product left my hair crunchy with some shine but my hair provides its own shine anyway. When tried to get the crunch out the curls wouldn't soften. Maybe I used too much. For that price I will experiment with it again but so far Mixed Chicks, Curl Keeper and Curl Junkie have my vote.

I like (not love)this product. It does define, elongate, moisturize and delivers incredible shine to my 4a/b hair. However,it takes a lot of practice in using the correct amount - too much can make your hair feel gummy all week and looks like a jherri curl. Too little and its almost a waste. When you use the correct amount, I still feel like there is a ton of product in my hair, and at times I break out on my forhead from it (I have sensitve skin).

OhMyGosh! I love this product. It is very moisturizing. I must say I haven't used it with Knot Today yet (it's on order) so I can't wait to pair them since I like KCCC with my other leave in conditioner so much. My hair hasn't been this soft with any other product that I've tried so far and I'm not all frizzy either. This product has a much softer and moisturizing effect than Curl Keeper. One trick is finding the right amount. The first time I tried it I applied too much and had stringy hair. Since then I've adjusted the amount I use and I love the results. This is a must have for anyone with dry, frizzy curls!

LOVE IT!! This is my #1 styling product. I have very thick, coffee-stirrer sized curls and this stuff keeps my thirsty curls from shrinking. I used to use Knot Today (which is a good product) under it but now I use Carol's Daughter Hair Milk instead. Since I only wash my hair once a week, I need something that's going to last. After washing my hair, I saturate every strand with KCCC, combing it thru completely and let air dry. For the rest of the week, all I have to do in the mornings is wet my hair with a little water, run my fingers thru my hair and let it air dry. One jar lasts me over a month so its worth the money to me.

I'm giving 3 curls for now. I tryed with the KT and it definitely works better. My hair is very thick and poofy. The first day it looks like a jerry curl, after crunching it dries and poofs a bit. The second day I have an afro again. At this rate I redo about every 2 to 3 days, way too expensive. I'll try the spritz on the second day but water usually makes it more poofy not more curly.

I can't say enough great things about this product! Since I decided to follow a (modified)curly girl routine about five weeks ago, I've bought $$$ in product and have been consistently disappointed, with one exception (jessicurl's rockin ringlets and confident coils. love that stuff). but when i tried KCCC with KC Knot Today leave-in conditioner before, I was amazed. I dried my hair, and what i saw was wonderful. but the true test would come the next day, and the next. an entire week later, i was shocked at how great my hair looked WITHOUT any additional style product. I just mist with water in the mornings and go! i love this and i'm never using anything else again. be aware, though, a little does go a long way, so for the first day, i thought my hair was too hard, but the following days it worked itself out beautifully. This is worth the money. Five enthusiastic curls!!

Its basically a gel with very nourishing ingredients. I LOVE it. It works great and smells yummy, and as it states on the page, a little goes along way. I used it on top of blended beauty styling lotion, but will use it by itself

Oh, my! I haven't been able to find any way not to have good to great hair days with this product. I always rake then squish it in. I've tried it after Kinky-Curly Knot Today, after Jessicurl Aloeba, after DevaCurl B'Leave In, you name it. My best ever results, though, have been when I added a dab to a dollop of B'Leave In, and mix them together before raking and squishing them in, then scrunching -- soft, bouncy, beautiful ringlets that stay well hydrated. I love this stuff!

KCCC has literally transformed my hair! I have a mixture of curls and waves that are coarse, prone to frizz, porous and med. thick. I don't need a lot of this stuff (which is good because it is expensive, but worth every penny). It makes my hair shiny and soft, I have great volume, beautiful curl/wave definition and best of all NO FRIZZ. You need to experiment with the amount you use and whether or not you need to use it with a leave-in or gel or both (I don't, I use it alone but may experiment with a leave-in if the mood strikes). I apply it to wet hair upside down then flip my head up, arrange it and apply a little more to the outer layers. I let it air dry for a while then diffuse it for 3 minutes or so. Awesome hair even in the rain!

This product combined with the Knot Today leave-in is the perfect styler for me. It's expensive, but a little bit goes a long way. Leaves me with soft, shiny, moisturized, curly coils, and I love the smell! It seems to have a conditioning effect also as my hair seems to be thicker, stronger, and softer than it was before I started using it. The longer I use it, the better my curl/coil definition seems to be. Will definitely repurchase.

I was so worried about spending 25 bucks on this product but I must say kkcc is worth every penny. I have a head of plentiful, fine 3b-3c curls. I've seen a lot of excellent reviews on this product but I'm not sure if some of it's customers are aware of it's versatility. With kkcc after adding a good leave-in conditioner,(I use Giovanni Direct Leave-in) you can define your curls and let them dry. A little goes a long way. This product has incredible HOLD. I wet set my hair in large magnetic rollers and the results were amazing. It looked like the sets I had when I was relaxing my hair but much healthier lots of body. KKCC is a great product to use if you want to straighten without the flat iron or direct heat for awsome shiny curls. Use it to touch up your set, smooth a little at the hairline and pull back into ponytails and up-do's. Wash and go or set-it. Any product that can do all that is well worth the money! Love it!

Love, love, love this product. My hair is coils scattered among the frizzy stuff that sometimes falls into waves/curls but mostly has a mind of its own. KCCC, really defines the coils and helps the other hair to clump and act a little more like the definite curls. And the shine/sheen it imparts is wonderful. My only complaint would be that it dries a little crunchy but at least on my hair the crunchiness doesn't last long.

I tried the KCKT and KCCC today for the first time. One of the things that made me want to try these products, in addition to all the great reviews I've read, was that it is free of protein, glycerin and silicone. I've heard many curlies hating/praising these ingredients, but wasn't sure how my hair felt about them, as I've never had a product that didn't have some combination of these in it. I am certainly glad I tried it!!! I have never loved a product in my life, but I LOVE the KCCC (and KCKT)!! It gave my 3C hair shine and curl definition like I've never seen before. And I didn't have to use that much product. The 16oz jar will last me a long time. Which is great since KCCC has become a permanent part of my hair care routine.

This product does what is says most of the time. I have I shaped curls in the crown of my head and O shaped curls in the rest. KCCC does not work on the crown. It leaves my hair limp and frizzy. This product works best with the Knot Today product. It's good for my 4a-c type hair. It defines my curls. I divide my hair in about 6-8 sections and apply KC section by section (with Knot Today). I use a dime size drop per section. Then I blow dry at the root of my hair to add volume and length. The only downside to KC is if you use too much, you will notice little flakes in your hair. And I normally wash (rinse, no-poo) my hair by the 3rd day. Other than that, good product.

I absolutely LOVE this product. It leaves my hair shiny and my curls defined.
At first it was hard to determine how much I needed to apply to my hair (My hair's EXTREMELY thick and holds lots of water). I got a hang of it after a while and realized all I needed was a quarter-sized amount per section of hair.
I give it 4 curls because of the look my hair has the following morning. I'm going to take the advice of the ladies who said that they spritz their hair with water the following morning. Hope it works out for me.

I am 3a/3c/4a and my hair is still growing and looking better and better every day. The first time I tried CC, I didn't like it. I tired it with KC and it left my hair dry. I recently tried it again, this time with Carol's Daughter Vanilla leave-in conditioner and my hair just sprung to life. It dries shiny and I now have ringlets. The only problem it for me, I have to rewet my hair every day in order to get the same look.

This is an awesome product to use with the Knot Today Leave-In. It really moisturizes your hair and provides great hold. The only drawbacks is that it takes a while to learn how to use properly and it takes all day for your hair to completely dry. Other than that, the end results are awesome and you can get about 4 days of wear out of it. Large jar that lasts a long time!

For those of you transitioning from a relaxer to natural hair, this is wondeful!! I have 3b/3c hair and I roller set my hair during the transition. OMG! My hair was SOOO soft with big to medium size curls. Very moisturizing for my dry hair. When used with KT, it smoothed the frizziness of my hair and made it look like it was a relaxed hair roller set. This style last at least 3 days (if you work out) longer if you don't. I'm 13 months transitioned and still going a few more months before I cut the relaxed ends off. The key with KCCC/KT is not to use too much and to apply on soaking wet hair.

This product worked great for a few months after my BC. Now that my hair is a little longer I dont get the same results. I'm so sad because this is my favorite and I would get alot of compliments whenever I used it. It's expensive but I still think it's worth it especially when used with Knot Today. It does leave the the hair sticky which is why I only gave it it 3 curls. However it is moisturzing and gives the hair a nice shine.

Hair type 4a/b. Using too much product will give you sticky hair and long drying times. I used this three times so far and still don't have the hang of the proper amount to use in my hair yet. After 2 years of trial and error with hair products, this is the only product that I always repurchase. It elongates my tiny 4a spirals, and makes my hair very shiny. I use it over a creamy leave-in (I don't use Knot Today) and get consistently good results. I apply it over soaking wet hair and comb it through. I then shake my head and scrunch to reform the curl clumps. My only 'holy grail' product.

Best stuff I've ever used, and I live in Florida, so that really says something! It isn't a cream, but it isn't really a gel either, but it's an amazing product! It can weigh your hair down if you use too much, so experiementation with amounts to use is necessary.

This is is hands down the best styling product I have ever used. I have very frizzy, style resistant hair and nothing else has been able to tame and define it this well. Others have come close, but KCCC blows them all away. I haven't had a problem with crunch personally, but then again, I rarely do with any product. If I do have a few crunchies with this, I just take a little pomade and scrunch it out. No biggie. Bottom line, this stuff is amazing!

This product is a gel and your hair is hard and crunchy for the first 3-4 days. I like the product after the crunch goes away but by then its time to wash your hair and start over again. The whole jar last me about a month and I have hair that last 5 days. I used my own conditioner which made the product flake a little but next time I am going to try it with the knot today conditioner and see if the combination is better. Great for the Summer. I recommend buying this product from Curlmart-fast and quick service. Ordering directly from the website takes too long and you never know when it will show up.

One of my favorite products and definitely a favorite styler. My hair is 2C/3A, and this gives me touchably soft, bouncy curls. It dries crunchy but easily scrunches out. And it smells wonderful! I'm only giving it three curls because it doesn't have great hold on humid days and my hair is more prone to frizz than with a firmer holding gel. Overall though, it is a wonderful product for my fine hair.

Hug tub so this will last a while. I like that it gives me frizz free curls that last.I love how when this dries it leaves my hair moisturized.
It goes with the humidity too. If its drier my hair is a little harder than when their is more humidity. Less is more I also found out as this will get your hair HARD. It took some playing with but I definietly like it now that I get consistent results. Any leave in will do besides Knot Today.

i purchased the entire line of KC products, directly from their website. needless to say, i waited almost 5 weeks to actually receive my products! that was my first drawback with the whole KC thing. i followed the directions, and despite my using the KCKT with the KCCC my hair still turned out crunchy and had little stick-like pieces poking out. needless to say, i gave all that KC crap away...i just hate that i spent over $100 on it!

This product is drying and it leaves the hair on the crunchy side. I do like the addedcurl definition that it provides, but it is hard to get this product to give you soft, natural curls versus hard, natural curls.
And, I got these types of results after first using the Knot Today and then the Custard. I will use the product up only because I paid alot of money. But, after all is used up, I won't be ordering anymore Kinky-Curly products ever again.

After reading the reviews on this product, I decided to give it a try. While it does make the hair soft and I did get a lot of curl definition, my hair actually shrunk more when it dried and it leaves these horrible white, moist flaker on your hair. Someone would think you have a bad case of dandruff, but it's the product. I used it with Knot Today so I don't know if I used too much or what. That's my only draw back out this. Great curl definition and shine though. :-)

Really good results when used with the Knot Today. I used this product for at least a year when I first went natural and I really enjoyed the results. I'm a college student, so money is tight. If it weren't so pricey I would probably use it once in a while.

KCCC, used with KCKT, is the closest thing I've ever had to a HG combo. I get silky ropes of curls every time I use it, with almost no frizz. The hold is pretty light once the crunch is scrunched out, so it might not be the best for thick, coarse hair. My fine hair loves it! Definitely a keeper!

When I bought this, I really expected it not to work well at all on my loose, 3a curls. Surprisingly, I get wonderful, shiny spirals!! It dries with some crunch, but once I've scrunched it out when it's dry, my hair is SO soft; feels like there's no product at all in my hair! I'm giving it 3 curls instead of 4 because it doesn't do as well in very hot, humid weather unless a little harder hold gel is put on top. During cooler, less humid weather, though, it's FABULOUS!

I find this KCC to be very helpful! No comparison to Miss Jessies Curly Pudding! That stuff was the worst. The more I use KCC the better my hair gets! I started about 2wks ago and it was horrible, honestly. I cudnt get the hang of it, but i stuck to it and figured out how much to use and a technique to putting it in my hair and now i can get at least 4-5 days of wear with one application.
TIPS: To get to 2, 3, or 4th day hair a spray bottle is my best friend! When i wake up after wearing a bonnet, it is a little matted but add some squirts of water to the ends and the curls come back to life. U may have to add some product to certain areas. Also do not touch after final scrunching while wet or it will get ugly/frizzy on the 1st day. I use a diffuser to help with my ends sometimes. My roots stay wet (my hair is thick and holds water) for most of the 1st day. But by day 2 i can pull out the curls and style as big wild hair and it looks great. Also I put a little coconut oil on the curls to soften and shine if needed after a couple.
Give it a try and stick with it, It really works!!!!
I have lil flaking and hardly no crunching

Type 3c: I tried this product for the first time on 06/28/08, and I loved it. It took away all my frizz, which was a big problem for me and also gave me great definition and a little shine. Also,it left just enough moisture in my hair. It did not elongate my curls as I wanted, but 2 out of 3 ain't bad. I will continue to use this products because I have tried so many and finally I got something that works for me.

This is my staple gel, although it isn't like your typical gel.
As others have stated, it works best over the Knot Today. If you want to use use a less expensive leave-in, ones without oils and glycerin seem to fare better.
A tub lasts a long time, and I easily get second day hair with this. It does take a bit of a learning curve at first, but works well once you work out the amount that your hair needs.
Hair does take longer to dry with this than with other gels I have used.
It is very moisturizing and even gives me a bit of shine.

Wow....I have never been so unimpressed by a product in a long time!! My hair is a 4a-4c hair type that is a little longer than shoulder length and very thick. My whole experience with this company has been very traumatic!! First of all, I had to wait a total of 4 weeks to recieve my products; both the knot today and the curly custard. For whatever reason, they are always out! Then, when I apply the products, it seems nice and my hair is soft. But you essentially have to keep your hair wet to maintain the look after the inital application! So, someone recommended that I not use the knot today. Once again, I had the softness, but not the elongated curls I had hoped for! Not for me!

I love this product for curl definition and frizz control. I have 4a hair, but the front is just wavy and KCCC/Knot Today actually gives me texture on the wavy section which is great.
It does dry crunchy, but you can unscrunch. Second and third day hair is also a major benefit!! I agree that the product application is a bit strange....my hair feels rubbery and if I don't work it through fast, my hair will feel tangled. But nothing that a dab of water can't correct!

A very unique styler. It works best over Knot Today, but I've used it with other leave-ins with almost-as-good results. The consistency is slimy and snotty, but it smells amazing. Application is bizarre -- you need to work QUICKLY or else it won't distribute at all. No drippies with this stuff, and my hair dries faster than it does with other gels. Before scrunching, it's super crunchy and curls look stringy, but afterwards my hair is full and soft and shiny. I can even get second-day hair with this! I would give it 4 curls, but application is a little too much work, and can sometimes be hit-or-miss.

The smell is delicious. Slippery slimey consistency. Amazing curl definition. Very shiny. Little frizz (best product Ive used for the frizz). Only downfall is that my hair does not feel very moisturized. I just ordered the Knot Today so perhaps it will feel different when I used both products in conjunction. However, for a product to get 4 curls it MUST stand on its own, especially for $25.

I find the use of KCCC pointless, unless you are a person that prefers a styler that dries harder than a gel. This stuff gets rock hard! Knot Today is its softner. One is no good really without the other. One can't really get the most out of the KCCC without Knot Today. Knot Today is mediocre in moisturizing abilities. Good as a pair but very expensive due to the constant replenishing of Knot Today. Wouldn't be my personal choice. I prefer products that can stand alone.

The product comes in a huge tub. I have coarse hair with a tendency to curl. Curling Custard makes my hair CURL! Nice body and curls, curls, curls. I color treat my hair, so this product also conditions. I do not comb it through, I scrunch it through my hair and let it air dry. If the curls are crunch, just use your fingers to comb through. I have lots of other curling products. This one is the best.

More than a year after using this product unsuccessfully (sticky, piecey, hard curls), I revisited it with doubts. This time I used it on top of Knot Today. This product combo rocks; it gives me smooth, silky, frizz-free and bouncy texture that lasts 2-3 days and doesn't feel dry on the 2nd day. So what changed? Not the product. Must have been my hair and the Knot Today.
