I would have given this 2 instead of three, but I took into account that this might work really well for thicker kinkier curlies. My curls are fine and less dense. I should have known using a product where there are petrolatum and mineral oil in the first 5 main ingredients. But this is Miss Jessie's so I let them slide. Wrong move! I used it as a leave in and worked it in my hair while wet and air dried. Was my hair soft? Yes. It was also greasy, and overdefined. I put my fingers in my hair and and can still feel the grease on my fingers. Miss Jessie why are you using these ingredients in high end products?? This product would probably be good for the extremely dense, thick curl pattern that's really gonna weigh your hair down. This is not a universal curly product. I would never buy this product again. I did like the peppermint smell. The cooling effect is stimulating but because of the greasiness I can't get that anywhere near my scalp.
Love this and the stretch silkening crème it weighs down my hair enough so that I can get through my day without having to worry about frizz. But I use one or the other since they are quite greasy, but my wash and go is shiny and my curls are formed. I have never ever paid 58.00 for it though, try looking in Ross.
I like this butter cream! It's hydrating and reduces frizz while making my 2b hair type shiny. I used it before my curling cream and let air dry. It turned out well. The only thing is it says use one tablespoon. You don't have to use that much!
I absolutely adore this product! It came in the hot butter curls kit and became an instant hit with me. I have very thick 3c/4a hair. I love this product because its thick mosturizes like no other and gave my hair amazing body bounce and shine! ! I used it on my twist outs and not only did my hair look and feel luxurious but the style lasted all weekend long I didn't do a touch up until day 4! My wash day is day 6!!! I really do recommend this product please buy it and see for yourself.
I have a 3c hair type and this product works wonders on my hair especially when I style them in twists. This product left my hair shiny and with some hold for the twists. At first the smell is very overpowering but as I used it more and more I got used to it. I love it !!
Worst Ingredients ever petrolatum, mineral oil, clog my scalp, and suffocate my hair Gee-Wizz, and most awful strong smell.
I got this product as a sample/2 oz jar in December. I absolutely loved it. It was great, and although many curlies don't love the smell, I absolutely adore it. About a month ago, I spent the $58 on the full product. I couldn't be happier. This product moisturizes my hair, and does an amazing job giving me softly defined hold on my twistouts. This is definitely a staple product for me.
I "silk" my edges nightly to promote growth and in just 4 months they have grown about 3.5 inches (after breakage due to tight braids) but this product is NOT the reason for my growth. I usually use Qhemet burdock root butter crème. I decided to give this product a try last night and sprung for a 32.00 8 oz jar....WHY??? It felt good going on...it DID make my hair feel soft in the morning. So what is my complaint? KNOTS!!! I never understood curlistas complaining about knots on hair strands as I rarely had that issue. Keep in mind I silk my hair with my fingers DAILY so I am aware of day to day strand changes. I woke up this morning--normally my hair feels silky and moisturized (I am a 4a with some odd 3c stuff and even some 4b at the top of my head but mostly 4a) this morning it felt heavy. I pulled on a few strands preparing to give them a daily sip of my burdock root--and on EACH strand, at the end are tiny, unmistakable KNOTS. They feel like sharp little bumps--they were not there the day before. So... the product does moisturize BUT it gave me knots--something I rarely had anywhere in my hair but now have on almost every strand of my edges overnight. Ladies and guys--when knots are your problem check your products!!!!! I keep a daily hair diary (and grew my hair to waist length from 2004-2010.) I have a lot of this product--but I am sliding it back to my desperation pile. NOT for me--now...should I try that stretch crème I also bought?
Awesome styler. Bad moisturizer. Sorry Miss Jessie's but you're not really the best darn buttercreme period. But you give the most defined twistouts period.
Thank god I was able to find a tiny bottle of this for $8! I honestly hate the smell, but what put the curl rating so low was the fact that it has petrolatum and mineral oil in the beginning of the ingredients! I think its ridiculous to charge that much and it's not even natural. i know all natural products that cost half the price. I used for an overnight twist and it helped with not making tangles. I will try on the more frizzier portions of my hair, but it wasn't great. Just happy i didn't pay $54 for it!
Gave my hair a great shine and definition, but the feeling of it on my hand is like nails to a chalk board. It has horrible ingredients that's no good for the hair. Not natural at all... It contains petroleum and mineral oil... I def could of made this product myself... And for that $58 bucks! That is just ridiculous!! It feels so nasty on my skin... Can't imagine what it's doing to my hair!!
I give this product 3 curls. I had a sample and I used it on freshly washed hair. It made my curls defined and shiny and moisturized. BUT it loses one curl for the ingredients which are not ideal if you follow the CG method (I don't but some do), as well as the fact that it tingled forever. It has an extremely strong peppermint smell. It doesn't contain pure peppermint oil or menthol so i have no idea where it comes from. I did my hair in the morning and it didn't stop tingling for hours and hours.
A frankly these women are full-a-shit! There stuff is not natural and is damaging all that petroleum and mineral oil, tisk. Tisk. And 4c girls please stay away... Unless u like your already dry hair.
Love this Product for my Twist Outs! But hate the price! Everytime I style my hair with this product, I have excellent, fabulolus twists that last for 1 week 1/2. During the week, I can use the product to re-twist a few but overall FABULOUS!! I wish I could give this product 5 stars but the price is what killed that last star. If you need to try this product, look into sample packs before buying the giant bottle. Also, for my twists I can usually get two good twist-out sets out of this tiny bottle (yeah, I said it! That bottle is super tiny for 9 bucks). Overall, I enjoy using the product for twist-outs and until I find something cheaper, this will be my staple product for my 4a hair.
I love this moisturizer! So far, it's the richest, most effective one I've tried that leaves lasting moisture. I'm not crazy about the smell, but I'm getting used to it. I tried the Baby Buttercreme a few years ago because it smelled so much better, but I swear it's NOT the same product! The BB would not absorb into my hair for anything and would cause it to frizz terribly after I'd taken lots of time and product to achieve curl definition. This version of the product works! It is slightly greasy, but not in a way that works against your other products. I usually apply at night before putting my hair up and then lightly in the morning when I'm done refreshing my curls to seal my ends along with some jojoba or argan oil. It's magical. My hair can go from feeling like straw to being super-soft and fluffy to the touch. I don't recommend using this on wet hair as a styling aid because it doesn't have any hold that I know of. I'd just use it after hair is dry and your curls look the way you want them to. Great product. TOO expensive, but it's a good one.
I must say I have been a fan of miss Jessie products since day one, but I have never used this product until now. I had a very small sample size in my stack of natural hair care products and I applied this to my tresses and loved the way it had my hair feeling, and shining. Although this product is outside my budget, it is now on my staple list.
This works better than anyother miss jessie product that I have used thus far. It did not leave my hair crunchy and used best as a second hair day product. Smell is a little bit strong for me though!
Works well on my hair. I purchased this in the value pack of products, and I've had about seven uses from the product on my neck length hair. With the seven uses, I still have more than half of the 2 oz jar left. I use about a dime sized amount each morning on my twists to refresh them. Curly Buttercreme keeps my twists moisturized. It has a peppermint scent to it, which is not the best.
Many people trashed Miss Jessie's products on the reviews so I was hesitant to try these products but i followed the instructions and just used a little and it did not leave build up it made my hair soft and shiny and I have type 4 curls if u are into typing. I understand that not all products work for everyone's hair but please just say that don't bash.
I'v tried the curly buttercreme on my 4b type hair and hated it. I was looking for a sample to try but I couldn't find it so I got the $60 tub at Target...after trying it, I hated it. So, I took it back to target and got my $60 bucks plus the 9.75% sales tax. DO NOT BUY THIS EXPENSIVE PRODUCTS IF YOU'RE LOOKING FOR NON-CHEMICALLY HAIR PRODUCTS. It's overpriced and these girls are full of sh!t...however, they're good business women but not so good when it comes to keeping their products the way they advertised it. P.S. YOU CAN GET YOUR MONEY BACK IF YOU PURCHASE THE PRODUCT AT TARGET. Of course, it needs to be within the return policy time frame. Target does not take a lost on it, they return it back to Miss Jessie's company.
Because I live in a dry state, it's hard to keep my curls moisturized but this product does just that. Although I have to use a good amount for my thick curly hair, it keeps my hair soft, curls defined and managable. It is a little expenrsive but it'll be worth it<br />
I love this product. It leaves my hair very moiturized. can pretty much wake up and just add this to my hair and go about my day, all day stay its great:)
This product does what it claims. It is very hydrating and left my curls very moisturized. However it has a distinctive mint smell to it. If you don't like the smell of mint then this product isn't for you. I applied this product straight away after a wash, then let my hair air dry. My hair held it's shape and the minty smell died down a bit.
This gets 2 curls for being very moisturizing but it smells horrible. It smells like some kind of tingly mint type of scent so that means it does not play nice with other stylers unless they are unscented. Second day hair is not possible because it stinks so bad and it creates lots of buildup. Don't even think about 2nd day hair with this.
I used the curly butter cream and it made my hair very dry and crunchy...I'm going to try it again on dry hair this time. hopefully that works
This is one of the best moisturizers for my hair. My hair is soft; my braid-out is defined and shine. My hair has never looked better.
This product is AWESOME! As we speak I’m trying the dry 2-strand twist method with this product and it looks like it’s going to work this time! I’ll post a blog with pictures and such later. This product is good for moisturizing your day after curls. I rub a little bit through my hair before I go to bed to eliminate shrinkage and frizz in the morning. This buttercreme has a mint smell, not the medicated type, that I love, but some people wouldn’t. I will say I wouldn’t use this product on wet hair. I haven’t had a good experience with that yet.
A friend of mine gave me what was left over of hers about 4 years ago and I honestly did not think I would like it because I did not like the curly pudding, however this product was so different with my hair. It defined my coils, twists and braidouts perfecto and it did not leave my hair stiff or hard. My hair also felt moisturized. Great product it is a staple.
i much rather prefer this over their baby buttercreme. this contains better ingredients and is much more hydrating. i also enjoy the tingly feeling it leaves on my scalp. however, i still think it is way over priced
I have a love hate relationship with this product (and Miss Jessie's as a company). I HATE that "kinks to curls" motto they use...it just irks me. I feel like they are trying to "sell" the dream of good hair..and the false promoise that using thier expensive products will give you that. That being said, I've used this product and while the price point is outragious, the product is ok. When its really cold here (I'm talking below zero wind chills) then I use this. All the mineral oil, bees wax and linolin coat my hair and protect it from the harsh weather. The draw back is that you MUST wash this stuff out with a sulfate shampoo. It builds up rather quickly and while it's marketed as a "moisturizer" the moisturizing effects are only temperary. Just one glance at the ingredients will show that most are things that will sit on your hair and clog it up over time. So, if you goal is to sort of "seal" up your hair from the harsh winter elements, then this is a good product. But if you are just in the market for a good moisturizer, skip this. There are much better (and cheaper) products out there.
I like this stuff ALOT! If you don't know what your doing with this product, then it might not be for you. Do your research before you start putting down a product and you don't know how to use it. It's not magic, and you can't expect miracles by gobbing this on like mayonnaise on a sandwich. If you use this right, your hair will turn out fabulous! I will definitely use this as a moisturizer for my curls! Pricy tho!
When I was introduced to this product I had recently cut off all my relaxed hair. My mom had been using Curly Pudding for quite some time. I started using Curly Buttercreme and my hair started growing like crazy! I was amazed and very pleased. My hair dries easily and is always thirsty so this worked really well for me. The scent is a real cool point. Nothing I've ever used has worked this great and smelled this good at the same time!!!
I love this Product but if not used properly your hair can end really oily, But I would recomend to people who has dry hair.
This product contains mineral oil and petrolatum, which slowed my hair growth. Additionally, I had an allergic reaction to the peppermint oil which caused a rash similiar to hives throughout my scalp. Moreover, it is extremely greasy! I used only a dallop and my hair was glistening as if I had a jheri curl.
Miss Jessie's products are the best I've tried and I've tried several of them. Her products do not stink and they are the best darn curling puddings ever! I use their entire line of shampoo/conditioner, I mix curly butter-creme and stretch silkening creme. I also use the rapid recovery and sweet baby back treatment. I am constantly asked about my hair and complimented on it as well. I'd have bad hair days everyday without Ms. Jessie's.
The smell is horrible. I bought it at Target and the price was no different. It is way over-priced and did I mention the smell. It is way toooooo greasey. I have to wash my hair after each use. I tried it 2-3 because I paid so much money for it.
This stuff is worth every dime. I have very thick hair and this is the only product that can keep it under control.
I received this product as part of the Transitioning Cocktail package. It's okay. It does soften and lends shine, and one doesn't need to use much. However, the combination of ingredients will eventually lead to a lot of build-up. As I stated with the Curly Meringue, the Miss Jessie's product line is over-rated. Additionally, for a company that promotes heavily with the Black community, i.e. Black women with Afro texture hair - it's a shame that the creators of Miss Jessie's rely so heavily on chemicals that are really not good for the hair -any kind of hair.
I love this product. Not only does it moisturize my 3B/3C curls, it doesn't weigh it down like Baby Buttercreme. I use very amounts and scrunch it in to moisturize on the second day after styling and it works wonders. I'm not crazy about the peppermint smell but it doesn't linger.
It was moisturizing. I will give it that much. But that's it!!! It left my hair nasty with a waxy feel on it. I will use this once I'm able to put my hair in a ponytail just to moisturize the ends. But that's it. I will not use it to do a twist out with this product ever again.
I love this product. It's scent is so cooling and I love the way it makes my hair feel and look. It moisturizes my hair so good. It is well worth the price and its true to what it says!
I think this product is best used on 4a/b/c hair I am 4a/b and this has blessed my hair with moisuture. Once suffering from split ends this has helped resolve that issue. A little is all that is needed, my hair is very thick and the cost is effective considering all the other products i've tried and have sitting in a tote because they don't work. I took full advantage of the bogo offer and am most pleased with the customer service i've recvd.! A perm is 60.00 every 6-8 weeks?? this is a better option!
This is a duplicate of a review I have on MUA: This was THE most disappointing product ever, 2nd only to MJ's Curly Pudding and its god-awful smell. I used the curly buttercreme in 2006. I was a very long-haired, tightly wound, curly/kinky in SF with no salon willing to do my hair (no, not even African). I had no clue what to do on my own and ordered this and curly pudding seduced by good product placement, retro logos and misleading reviews on natural hair boards. It was expensive, ($60 a tub!) but if it would hydrate my curls and make my routine quicker I was game. It was cold, lemon-custard colored, thick and came in a 16oz tub - unhygienic and gross, yes, but believe me less so than the PURPLE curly pudding. I used the buttercreme at night and the smell was horrendous, but less so than the pudding which was a potent mint (I want to say) though both got me kicked out of bed! I followed the directions to 'twist out' my hair again and again and the formula still left visible flakes and crud (and it states clearly in the directions that you will use half the tub in one go, $30)! My hair looked matte, dirty and felt coated with product. No real stretching of my curl, it was no different than if I had used nothing and twisted my hair alone. There was no miracle smoothing, softening, natural shine nor definition left. I still hadn't learnt my lesson because I called the NY salon in hopes of getting the secret to the results on the site that I couldn't manage. What I got was a very pissed-off, supposed, former employee who told me that either Titi or Miko left the business without a word and went to D.C. leaving employees and customers high and dry. I have read the same on other boards about that incident but didn't care, I felt totally had by the product. It drowns hair in beeswax, parabens & animal proteins. Beware the grandmotherly marketing and do not expect anything from this product if you buy. I have since seen the expanded line and new ads for the salon (about $400 a visit!) but the proof is in the pudding's ingredient list. Note, my container is from 2006, they may have changed formulation. Also the tub is durable and houses countless BE eyeshadows but still smells like mint implosion.
I have type 4B tight coils. I watched the videos and followed the styling chart that I picked up from Ricky's. The Curly Buttercreme is too greasy no matter how little. When I took apart my twistouts, I ended up with a big frizz ball even though I had a little of the product on my fingers to prevent frizz. I spent over $30.00 for this product and wish there was a money-back guarantee for this stuff. It it greasy and caused buildup on my scalp although I didn't use a lot of it. I would suggest not to buy the big jar and just go with the $10.00 bottles so you don't waste your money. I contacted Miss Jessie's and was told to either go to their salon and spend $300+ for them to apply it or find a natural hair salon. Why would I tie up my entire day at a natural hair salon to spend $80+ to apply the same product when I have the same jar sitting here. The funny thing is that when I contact salons, they refer me to other products that will give me the curl definition I desire. Wowwwwwwwwwwwwwwww!!!
This is the first product I have found that not only defines my 3b/c 4b hair but additionally keeps it soft and hydrated. I bought the Baby Butter Cream at first and use it on my 21 month olds and it works great on his 3b/c hair. This prompted me to buy the sample pack where I found the original and fell in love.
It's good but overpriced. A little goes a long way, use too much and be prepared for an attack of the greasy blob. Worked well for my twist & braids.
I have been using this product for over 3 years and it works wonders on my hair. I have 3c/4a hair and use it for my twists. It is hydrating and gives my curls great definition.
I really enjoy this product! Yes, I know that it is high in price however, it is worth it. My hair type is a 3c/4a. It works very will for day 2, 3, 4 hair. You can also use this in your hair before you shampoo.
I really like this product. It's moisturizing and left my hair soft. I like to use it to do a curly afro. Because my hair can be really dry it was not too heavy. I tried a sample and though it's expensive I think it would be worth it. I love the minty and cool tingly feel once I massage into my scalp.
I really love this product for touch ups. I used it in my husbands beard and it really help moisture and detangle, Only problem is he didn't like the minty smell. But I do, I love the fresh tingly feeling in my head.
Does your hair need a breathmint? Then just get this product. Its Perfect if ur hair stinks. lol. It is a little oily, but very moisturizing if used carefully. I KNOW i did not pay almost 60 dollars. That is a ridiculous price, you would think you were getting some silk cashmere and gold in here somewhere
I like the minty smell of this product. It provides a tingly sensation once applied to your scalp although I'm not quite sure what this product is to do for oyur hair. I think it's a bit greesey and it's way over priced. I tried some of the styling techniques that miss jessies provided with for the use of the cbc and they just don;t work. At the end like I say your hair turns out to be very greasy. So maybe I'll just use a little just to keep my hair hydrated.
I do not like the over-powering mint fragrance in this product. Your hair is moisturized but you have to apply the product daily.
Buttercreme is so greasy, it's greee-zzzeee, and it has a pungent odor. (That's not a good thing!) I did not notice any moisturizing properties, just grease. When used with Curly Pudding, the smell is putrid. And let's not forget the outrageous price!
This is a great product for very dry 4a/b hair, otherwise it is going to be way too heavy. This gives my hair a sparkly quality and the fact that one application lasts for days makes me over look the price. It does have a heavy mint smell and tingly quality and that isn't for everyone. A little goes a long way.
My hair has always been SUPER SUPER dry, and I have tried almost everything to soften and moisturize my hair. Finally! I swear by this product. It really changed the way my hair feels and the smell is quite pleasant too.
THE WORST DARN BUTTERCREME PERIOD. Seriously, this product is not nice the smell is overbearing I applied it during the day and could still smell it at night causing me to stay up all night until I decided to just wash my hair. To top it off my hair was so greasy I had to wash with sulphate shampoo, contains petro chems and is that expensive, why? If I wanted such poor definition for my hair I would have gone to a high st store and waste less money. It's just as well this was a sample.
My hair felt so greasy after using this product. It left my hair feeling very weighed down, provided no curl definition, or hydration. Be advised-- this product contains mineral and petroleum which are both hair follicle clogging agents. IE--retards hair growth. Expensive for nothing.
I can't live w/o this product! It really moisturizes my kinks. I have only one complaint which is the stickiness factor that sometimes means I have foreign objects imbedded in my hair! This may be more my fault for overdoing it w/the product.
This is a very thick cream that dries clear and doesn't weigh down my hair. I have 3b/c curls that are very, very dry. This is one of the best hydrating and styling products I've used. It last all day and is good for a couple of days for me if I sleep in a silky scarf. It is much better than the pudding and the merigue--both of which are quite drying.
This stuff is horrible. The smell is strong, but I can stand it. I used it to do 2 strand twists, but instead it ended up being a greasy limp mess on my head. It moisturizes really well, but use this product sparingly. I will be getting all $58 of my money back. Not worth it.
