THIS DID NOT WORK ONE BIT!!!!!! I have combination of 3C/4A/4B and tested this shampoo in each section with a different texture and my hair instantly became dry, brittle and started snapping when I touched it. Luckily I tried it from a friend who said it didn't work for her so I didn't buy it..... should have taken that as a hint! YOU ARE WARNED!

I no longer use this product. It was working well for me for a good while. I first used it after my BC in 2011 and came back to it early last year. It did a good job clarifying my scalp and hair of product and oil build up. My hair definitely felt dry after rinsing it out but that's what I've come to expect from a clarifier. A super hydrating conditioner or a thick leave-in work best for me after clarifying. At the end of last year, I realized it was not doing as thorough of a job as it was when I first started using this product. I guess my hair got tired of it..... :-?

I love this product even more than the whole system because it does what a shampoo should do for my naturally crimpy hair- clean it. I have definition because the oils, dirt from living, and butters (sealers) Ive used in the prior week need to come off my hair and scalp the conditioner that I use after washing works without much effort, it feels scary when your hair squeaky clean because you feel that it will dry like that but as long you can condition effectively your alright with this shampoo and the price tag may seem expensive but just a little bit is so watery it just glides throught the hair.

Hair type: mixed, 3C/4A. Kinky Curly's Curling Custard and Knot Today are fantastic, but this shampoo is average. My hair feels clean and moisturized, but immediately after using (before conditioning), my hair looks like a brillo pad. Plus it's hard to tell if the shampoo is reaching the whole head, because it doesn't lather at all, and you wind up using a lot to make sure your whole head is shampooed. So it doesn't last long.

My hair and scalp felt clean but not stripped of moisture after using Come Clean. I think a little goes along way, because I used a lot less than I usually would for a moisturizing shampoo and it was enough. That's great since I'd rather not have to buy it too often. I don't think I would need to use it every time I wash, though, as it might be to strong for that.

Really??? I brought this product cuz it does contain protein and glycerin. This made my hair extremely hard and stiff even after I used the knot today and kccc. Horrible. And I didn't know sulfate free products still creat suds. So doesn't that mean it contains some harsh detergents.......

This shampoo did a very good job of stripping my hair. It really did "come clean" but it was a bit too clean for me. My hair was left with no moisture and it didn't detangle it at all. I used Knot Today after my conditioner so I suppose it doesn't have to be detangling. But as I have used shampoos that detangled my hair in the past, this is what I prefer. If you are a fan of the squeaky clean, stripped feeling, then this might work well for you.

When I was transitioning and used this I didn't care much for the stripped feeling. Now, in some weird way I almost prefer it. After a few washes the SM Moisture Shampoo makes my hair feel heavy and weighed down. So I use this and my hair feels clean and rejuvenated. I mix 1 part of this shampoo with 4 parts water and put it in an applicator bottle, and it still gets my hair PLENTY clean. This could last a while. It only gets 4 curls because i do wish it was a tad more moisturizing.

This shampoo was such a disappointment. It was drying and completely stripped my hair which in turn left me with a tangled mess to deal with EVEN though I was washing in sections. With that being said, it was an awesome make-up brush cleaner that left my brushes clean and soft. Happy I came up with a use for it! :)

Wow! Now I have gone through some shampoos trying to find that non stripping feeling. I was nervous to use this. But man my hair felt so soft after I used it. I really wanted to like this shampoo because I prefer using a cleanser without heavy moisturizing ingredients that can weigh down my hair. Minimalist shampoos like this are extremely hard to find, but unfortunately this shampoo was just way too drying. I suspect it's because of the inclusion of c14-16 olefin sulfonate, which I've read can be very harsh. My sulfate shampoo is gentler than this!

This shampoo has very few ingredients and is sulfate free but, it's not for me. It has a liquid gel feeling to it and when I place it on my hair (4b) it lathers quickly. It lathers so quick that it doesn't actually clean my hair fully. It smells really good like a faint orange shebert and it is clear visually. It also defines my hair somewhat which is a good thing but when I rinse it off, my hair feels weird like it was stipped or thinning. It's almost like a clarifying shampoo. I use it on occasions when I don't have any shampoo left. It probably lasts for at least 5 months and you only need to use a little if you use it for your routine. It's good but as excellent as i would like it to be. I guess the big question is did it retain moisture? Yes but, not as good as Shea moisure's raw shea butter retensive repair shampoo (I use organic honey in mine) or CURLS.biz's curl cream cleanser. Overall I think it's unique and I will buy it again soon.
I would reccomend this for someone who loves shampoo that lathers, organic ingredients, needs a product that lasts a long time, and for people who have sensitive skin. You never know til you try it. Everyone reacts differently.

I can't say I hated this products, but I can't say I like it either. It definitely does what it says "removes buildup." But it also removes a lot of my natural oils and my hair felt straw-like and it stuck to my head....no fun. It also says that it is okay for everyday use.....definitely not. I could see this being a great product for weekly or biweekly use. Finally, they say it's sulfate free, but I find that a little hard to believe because it bubbles up in my hair....I don't know, maybe it's some other ingredient. Overall, it does what it says. Great product, but definitely not for everyday use.

I think Kinky-Curly makes the best shampoos (Kinky-Curly Come Clean and Kinky-Curly Tiny Twirls Foam Shampoo). They both work amazing on my hair and dry, sensitive scalp. I use the Foam Shampoo (even though I'm not a toddler!) for light cleansing. I use the Come Clean for a more deeper cleanse. The Come Clean is perfect because it pretty much removes all build-up. So I use it every once in a while when I notice my hair isn't taking in moisture. If this one's to harsh for you, try the Foam Shampoo. It works great! Or you can dilute this one. That will certainly stretch the product and keep more money in your pocket.

This is an overall good shampoo tho it still has that sudsy effect. But it does exactly what it says....COME CLEAN. So well that your hair will squeak after you rinse it out. but I love it. I used this with KCCC and KCKT because I was so worried about build-up. This is definitely a build-up shampoo, NOT a daily one like it says. I do not like this shampoo at all. It takes absolutely everything out of my hair. I can't stand it. I HAVE to deep condition after using this shampoo. However, my mom and my sister love this shampoo. My sister has 3b and some 4a curls and her hair has a little extra oil so for her it works fine. My mom has dry 4c curls so I do not know why should want this shampoo. She says she likes how clean it gets her hair. But she also doesn't really care about how soft and defined her curls are. The only good thing I can say about this shampoo is that it really does clean your hair...to point where it squeaks.

I have thick 4C hair and I was given this shampoo by my cousin that said it made her hair feel too dry. I used it after taking my braids out to calrify my hair. I did a pre poo & then applied the shampoo onto my mixture. I have to say that it worked very well and my hair felt moisturized and not stripped. I'm not big on the price, but I will definitely finish what I have.

I've been suspicious of products calling themselves shampoo since around 1969 when my mother first tried combing my hair after a wash. I can still hear the echoes of hair being ripped, and shredded. A couple of days later, I got a short haircut. In general, over the years I learned that "shampoo" can alter my hair so much my hair can feel like synthetic rope fibers. I LOVE KCCC, KCKT, and KCSS so much that I gave this "shampoo" a try, in spite of its moniker. While I don't feel this is heavily moisturizing, it does not dry out my hair. I bought it for once-a-month clarifying, but I can use it any time I want. My hair has less tangles, and feels softer after washing than it feels sometimes even after CJ Daily Fix (I always need a conditioner rinse). This feels light, and smells fresh, and it leaves my hair feeling smooth, but not squeaky. It lathers a bit, which was a bit shocking because I hadn't seen lather in a long time. However, it rinses easily, and it doesn't seem to leave any residue. Used with KCKT as a leave-in, and KCCC as a styler, this gives me soft, bouncy, build-up free curls. I love its bright citrus scent.

I am african-american with 4C hair - thick, afro-like hair. I used this product and it was just okay. It left my hair feeling squeaky clean and like it stripped it of all moisture. That's the kind of thing that's great for a bathroom sink, but not so much for my hair. Since I bought it and still have quite a bit of product left, I would only use it again if I were completely out of any other shampoo in the house. Otherwise, it will join my graveyard of products that just don't work for me.

I have wavy hair 2b/2c that tend to curl nicely after washing them but through the day they weigh down and become less wavy. I have found a perfect combination of products that helps my hair to be curly throughout the day. I start with washing my hair daily with Kinky Curly Come Clean shampoo. It cleans hair very well, some will say it stripps your hair, but really if you have wavy hair you want your hair clean, because any buildup will case your curls/waves to straighten out. I don't find this shampoo to be drying so it works perfectly with the combination of products I put on my hair after washing them with this shampoo. After the shampoo I use Kinky Curly Knot Today conditioner. I apply it in the shower, comb my hair and rinse the conditioner out (I used to apply it after shower and leave it in but it would weight down my hair to much). The Knot Today is a great detanger and it gives great smoothness to your hair without weighing them down and causing buildup. I believe the Come Clean shampoo and Knot Today complement each other perfectly with getting my hair very clean and later detangling and smoothing out with the conditioner. I would highly recommend that you use both for best results. Then I lightly pat my hair to remove excess water (so they don't drip) and apply Moroccan oil. This thing is pricy but it is like food for your hair, makes them soft, shiny and they grow like crazy. I apply one pump onto wet/dump hair (my hair is on the shorter side) and this thing last you for ever. It will not add definition, just make your hair healthier. What is also amazing about this product is that it will NOT weigh down your hair or make it feel greasy (even thought it is an oil). After I apply Moroccan oil I apply for curl definition Kinky Curl Curling Custard. This product is great in the sense that it works a little like gel but once it dries out you can't really tell you have put something in your hair (it disappears but at the same time makes your hair curl and hold the waves/curls very nicely throughout the day). Very light weight, does not weight hair down and does not dry out hair (at least with the combination of products I am using), I would highly recommend it to those who look for great curl definer and holder. With this combination of products my hair is healthy, shiny, and curls beautifully throughout the day.

Okay, I don't know why this is marketed as a moisturizing shampoo; it definitely is NOT moisturizing. What it is great for, however, is clarifying. It is a really great clarifying shampoon - hence the name, "Come Clean". I really like that it's sulfate-free, and lathers. I use this on my scalp ONLY, and always follow it up with either a conditioner or a real moisturizing shampoo.

Wow I love this shampoo. First off, its not very moisturizing but I don't find it particularly drying either. Especially not for how well it cleans, which is AMAZING. Co washing was over moisturizing my curls and making them limp, so I decided to reintroduce poo into my regimen. This one cleans so well and leaves my curls bouncy and they form in corkscrews! I also love the light mandarin smell, the reasonable price, and the fact that I can get it on ground, adding to the reasonable price. Oh, and I use a lot of every product but with this one I can honestly say you don't need a lot. It really does work perfectly with the Knot Today and Curling Custard.

Big waste of money if you need a moisturizing shampoo, but if you need to get rid of product build up than this is your shampoo. However, you will probably need to follow up with a deep conditioner. I do like the rest of the Kinky Curly product line; however, this shampoo leaves my curls dry, brittle, and parched feeling. I have had this shampoo in my shower for probably over a year now and should probably just give it away.

This shampoo lives up to a good chunk of what its name suggests: "come clean." This is a clarifying shampoo, and gets rid of ANY and ALL buildup in your hair. The smell is wonderful, and the price is fair, especially considering how little I need to use. I use it once a week, or when I feel that my scalp and hair need a clean slate.
I withheld a curl because Kinky-Curly calls this a "moisturizing" shampoo, and it's nothing of the sort. This doesn't moisturize my hair at all--it'll strip your strands clean of everything. Just be aware of that.

This really seems to meet my needs. I need a protein-free clarifying lowpoo to use once a month b/c of hard water build up. Come Clean lathered very nicely and it has a very mild pleasant orange scent. W/o using a RO my hair felt soft and moisturized b/f applying my DT. The only complaint is that I had to detangle a second time w/ my suave after using the poo b/c it did create a few tangles in the back. Anytime my Garnier Fructis Shampoo, which has SULFATES, leaves my hair more moisturized, there's a problem. My hair was extremely dry and parched after using this. I WILL keep it, however, due to my frequent swimming. I'll use it to shampoo with after doing laps to get rid of the chlorine. As tough as this stuff is I'm sure it could clean out toxic waste. Since I'll only be using it for serious clarifying AND the Knot Today makes your hair unbelievably moisturized and soft regardless, I'll give this two stars.

Nice cleansing shampoo; not recommended for everyday use unless you apply heavy creams or gels. This will definitely get the gunk of your scalp and hair if you do. Very pleasant smell and nice sudsy feel. Plus its natural!

I was worried this shampoo would dry out my hair as everyone has been saying, but I used it in conjunction with the entire Kinky Curly system and I have to say, my hair came out looking moisturized and beautiful. Immediately after using the shampoo my hair did feel dry and unhappy, but using the Knot Today right after solved the problem pretty quickly. I don't know how my hair will hold up to long term use, but I think I'll continue to buy this.

I wasn't impressed. For a shampoo labeled as moisturizing, I didn't find it to be. It's more of a clarifying shampoo. I think I'll keep it for the times I need to deep clean my hair, and then follow it up with a moisturizing shampoo. But, it won't be a staple, especially as I undergo the transitioning process.

This is not my regular shampoo - I use this after swimming, especially after swimming in chlorine. I try to use it ASAP after my hair has been in chlorine/the lake/salt water and it works great. I feel like there's no chance of harsh chemicals staying in my hair if I really scrub my head with this stuff. After washing with this, I use a Redkin deep conditioner to really restore my hairs hydration. This combo leaves my hair feeling and looking great, and even in the Texas summer heat - NO FRIZZ! :)

Very cleansing, I'm sure it's great for removing build up. My scalp feels super clean. But, it's also more drying than the shampoo bars I have, so I probably won't buy it again.

The first few uses of this shampoo felt a little too clarifying/drying for my 3b hair, but I kept trying it and after my hair got used to the lack of silicones, etc. the shampoo works great! It is in fact quite gentle and moisturizing while leaving my hair feeling clean. It has a light scent and is the first shampoo in a long time that has not made my head itch (at all) on days between shampooing (I am sensitive to scent and build up issues with most “moisturizing” products). My hair is so soft and manageable! Highly recommended!

It truly cleans the hell out of your hair. A little TOO much if you ask me but I make sure I condition my hair well after using it or my hair is quite brittle. You will not have any build-up after using that.

This is a really good shampoo... I've used it several times in my year and a half of being natural. It cleans very well. Smells nice. My hair doesn't feel like its been stripped. This is a nice staple shampoo to have around.

I have 3C curls with some 4A and used this product after a week of co washing. It took away all of the build-up without stripping and matting my hair. The scent is very light and pleasing and the price is great. There seem to be mixed reveiws throughout all of the hair types, but I would recommend you try this yourself to see how it works for you.

I use this shampoo as a clarifier, actually, and the ONLY one that's sulfate free that I use to clarify (the others have SLaurethS). It lathers up an insane amount, so use a VERY SMALL amount. Trust me. Try a dime-sized puddle fIRST, then add mroe as needed or you may end up super-lathered and stripped. This is definitely not for fragile hair. I find it does leave me squeaky-strippy feeling, but that's why I use it. When I feel I have build-up, here comes the KC Come Clean! Love the fresh clean fruity smell and the immense lather (a change from the nopoos with no-lather). Concentrate on scalp (will feel refreshingly clean) and go easy on the ends. This is strong stuff, even if sulfate free. If you use heavy products, this might be to your benefit for a once every couple weeks or once a month clean-up. I took one star off cause callling it "Moisturizing" is radically FALSE advertising. It's CLEANSING, but it's hardly MOISTURIZING. :)

For 4a/4b mix it stripped alot - my hair felt hard and dry afterwards. I still like it, but only use a little bit with some baking soda as a clarifier very rarely now!

This product left my hair clean but...hard and crunchy. Not the results I was looking for. I will keep it and use a few drops with conditioner, just for a good clean up product when I have product build up on my hair. Not a shampoo for everyday use, at least not on my 4A type hair.

Knowing this was designed as a clarifying shampoo, I water down a capful in about 1 1/2 cups of warm water and pour it over braided or twisted hair and squeeze to lather. THis stuff smells great and leaves my hair clean without feeling stripped. Don't know if it would stripped used at full strength, but it lasts longer watered down anyway! Will continue to use!

This shampoo wasn't the best, but it wasn't the worst either. I had wished it would have left my hair a little more hydrated, but instead it still seemed a little dried out. It works much better if a hydrating conditioner is generously applied afterward.

Great shampoo has a good sudsy-feeling lather. Does not strip your hair and cleanses very well. Doesn’t leave your hair dry like other similar products and most of all you don’t need a lot of and can use it often. Also when you apply the conditioner after it, it’s more effective.

It's an okay but not great shampoo. It cleansed but my hair was sort of left in no man's land. It wasn't left feeling stripped but it didn't feel great either. Not sure I will continue to use. I have had the best results with the KCNT and KCCC when I use the complete line of products since they are 1) designed to work together and 2) finiky when paired with products from other lines.

I'm a 4a-3c mix. I am returning this poo because it left my hair feeling too rough for my liking. I love the rest of the Kinky-Curly line. The conditioner replenished what the poo stripped away. My hair was clean but stripped.

I have 4b/spongy hair. This is a clarifying shampoo so it strips my hair and leaves it rough, dry, and tangled. However, the Kinky Curly Knot Today Conditioner replaces what was lost. The ingredients are great so I will continue to by this shampoo as a clarifier. Kinky Curly needs to come out with a moisturizing shampoo.

I think this is one of the best curl cleanser. My hair was not dry and my hair fells extra clean after washing. I never tried the knot today as a conditioner when washing. I just do the kt as the leave in conditioner for the kccc. But this dynamic tri together is great I will try to keep this line of products as long as they keep working in my hair or I find something even better.

I must be the odd man out because I've tried this poo several times over a month, even when I hadn't pooed at all for a week, and every time it left my hair dry, tangled, and rough-textured. I do like the fresh grapefruity fragrance though.

I hadn't tried a shampoo in ages, but I like this product line and thought I'd try it out since one never knows when a build-up emergency will happen requiring a shampoo.
I liked this product. It was pretty gentle, although weird to feel some lather! It smelled like an orange creamsicle. My hair did feel different, but I wouldn't call it dried out or stripped. Conditioning afterwards left me feeling fine.
I will keep this product on hand and maybe use it once a month just to give me a clean slate. it is gentle enough so that it won't hurt.

I haven't tried the Knot Today Conditioner but I love the shampoo.I have very dry hair and wanted a sulfate free shampoo to use every day. I don't like shampooing every few days since my hair is thin and extremely frizzy and for some reason it gets really frizzy if I just use conditioner. Anyway, this shampoo smells wonderful, a little goes a long, long way and it makes my hair unbelievably soft and moisturized. I am Caucasian but my hair is between 3a and 3b, blonde and fine. This shampoo is well worth the money. When I run out of my other conditioner I might try the Kinky Curly conditioner. I am so grateful that I found this website. I don't even walk down the shampoo and conditioner row in the stores anymore.
