This is the only gel I've used that doesn't completely dry my hair out or make it poofy. I wish it was a stronger hold but it gives me defined curls with very little frizz.
I give this gel a 3.5. Now it says it's for 3c but my hair is mainly 4a coils with a little bit of 3c on top. The gel has a good list of ingredients and for my hair provides good definition. It dries pretty fast. But I always add something underneath it to make my hair is moist and soft. . The other thing is it dries faster than KCCC but the definition and elongation isn't as pronounced with KCCC. I've used this gel in conjunction with flax seed gel which was a crunch-a-thins. Overall I still recommend it.
I did a lot of experimentation with this product before it worked for me. Used alone, my curls were defined with very hard hold. The upside: My wash-n-go lasted for five days. I've tried it with several leave-ins and each time resulted in flakes. The coils were pretty, but I couldn't get past the flakes. This gel only works well over oils or light moisturizers (that do Not contain conditioners). When I get it right, I even get a little less shrinkage.
White flakes, no moisture, medium hold. The orange citrus smell is yummy. The consistency reminds me of Curls Goddess Glaze, which surprised me, since the Glaze is just pumped full of butters and this is pumped full of nothing special....
Finally found my winter hair product! I cocktailed this with BRHG (less than a pea size per section), divided my hair in three sections and raked it through. I also used KCKT as a leave in. This stuff reminds me of KCCC because it is a bit sticky but not nearly as bad and does a much better job. It doesn't leave a lot of crunch and gives me great curl that lasts all day on my 3b-c hair. I really don't write reviews but I'm just so happy with it. I've already used it several times so this isn't a one time only thing. Another plus is I can drive to my local whole foods to buy it! Good stuff!
I really like this stuff. It has a terrific smell, it doens't feel super sticky, just sticky enough, and most of all, it doesn't discolor my light blond hair like most gels. I would highly suggest this to everyone!
After reading the wonderful reviews on this product I was pretty excited to try it but sadly I was very disappointed. I'm a 3C and my HG is KCCC with CK over top but I'm always looking for a cheaper alternative that I can get locally. I did my co-wash, used my leave-in and did the super-soaker method to get this stuff thru my hair. As soon as I put it in my hands and then put it in my hair, it felt horrible. Absolutely NO slip whatsoever and very thick. I really squished it thru my hair to work it in. My hair was awful all day. I even tried once more and it was just as nasty. So, back to the store I go to see if I can get a refund.
I have used this gel since doing the BC, I absolutely love it. I use this with KCNT as a leave in and the KMF gel over it. It leaves my curls soft and has a hold that lasts all day. The KCCC was a little heavy for me and weighed my curls down but I love this gel in combination with the KCNT leave in. I've only used it since November, so I'm wondering if I will need another product when summer comes around but so far it's been perfect for me and my hair is healthy and growing fast.
I love this gel! It works very well over my leave-in conditioner to give my stretched styles some added hold. It's smells awesome, has great ingredients, doesn't flake and has medium hold. A bottle lasts me a long time so it's a very economical purchase.
I love this stuff! It brings out my curls, calms frizzies and lasts thru the 2nd day. And the fact that its organic is a bonus! I use this on top of Bioterra Cream for best results. It has been a few years....and I am still loving this product!
LOVE this! I do notice that the ingredients on my bottle are different than those listed here. It is still CG. Gave my wimpy, wavy hair good clumps and wurls. Since I like a firmer hold, I used it as a curl cream under BRHG. Eager to see if in winter it becomes a gel I can use on it's own. Such a great product especially for only $6.
I was surprised at how little I liked this given the rave reviews. I agree that it is drying. It kind of made my hair feel like it used to before I went CG. I wanted to like it because it is all natural, but no dice.
Seriously, I was so blown away by this stuff that I just ordered two more bottles. Great frizz control, medium hold, shine, and I love the texture. Oh, and it def elongated my curlies. Wonderful product. Reminds me of Long Aid but not as greasy and the ingredients are better. :oD
I have 3b/3c hair that is veryyyy thick. I really really like this! It kept my curls in mini spirals all days. And with the nyc heatwave we've been having...that's quite a task!
I first used this on it's own and it didn't work so well. I have since tried it over other products and it's been great! Soft, yet defined 2c/3a curls. Not sure how it will hold thru the day, but it's doing well so far. I also love that it's all natural and I can get it on Vitacost for a fraction of the cost in Whole Foods.
This helepd to define 2-4a curls very well (when used a curl definer) and left a soft touchable hold. It did not have a lasting hold thruout the day, but the bottle says "medium" hold and that's just what it gave. Love it for my son who has 2b hair and for my daughters who have 2-3b hair. For my 4a hair, when it was loose, I needed to layer this under something with greater hold. Still, this is a goldmine for the price!
Hair type 3b-horribly thin. Today is the first day that I have tried this product. It is only 8:30 in the morning, but so far so good. My curls are perfect spirals! I am hoping that they last all day ;) Giving it 4 curls so far!
This is a great gel. It conditioned my hair and held the style but didn't leave it crunchy. It is very economical too.
I started using this product almost 10 years ago and since then haven't used another gel or styling product unless I had to (i.e. ran out while traveling). I always air dry my 3c texturized hair, and this never leaves it crunchy. It holds any style, gives a bit of shine, and doesn't dry out my hair. If I want softer hold I add water in the palm of my hand before working it through, or towel-dry my hair less before applying it. The smell is great, and the ingredients are natural and gentle (which kind of offsets the chemicals I put on there for texturizing). I've also found that I can extend the life of it--get that last bit in the bottle--by adding water and shaking it. My sister, who doesn't chemically treat her hair and is between a 3C and 4A, now loves it, too. If you're not looking for industrial hold, then give this a try. I LOVE THIS STUFF AND DON'T WANT TO LIVE WITHOUT IT!!
I have been trying hair gels from the grocery store, pharmacy and salons for years, with no staying power in my long curly hair (or they smell too perfumy). THIS PRODUCT ROCKS! I found it about 5 years ago at Whole Foods and now I buy it online at luckyvitamin.com for half the cost. It smells great, hasn't been tested on animals, and really defines and holds the curls!! Apply it to wet hair, and if it dries a little too stiff, simply fluff it out with your fingers. It lasts all day and into the night. I hope I never have to search again for a hair gel product!
This one is very very mediocre for the price; I've been much happier with $3 gels. I find it a little drying upon application, like it's sucking the water away (and not in a good way). I love citrus/grapefruit smells, but this one was strong/fake. It's very thick, which isn't a pro or a con, and totally up to your preferences. But go with Herbal Essences Set Me Up instead.
