Liked it but after 10 minutes of applying it, I was not feeling it. It dries to a crunchy hard product. I applied some serum to soften it but no dice. I'll try to mix a tiny bit in some of my other product. But if it fails, it's going in the trash.
Great product. I definitely love it! I don't apply to much and it gives my hair shine and well definition. When may hair is dry, it feels cruchy but I scrunch and the result is a bouncy curly hair (: IN LOVE.
Great product. My hair is shiny and sooo smooth! Curls well defined and frizz-free. My second day after today and still great. Only shame that I'm Brazilian, so I have to buy it from vitacost, and for me the price is very high :( Queen Helene in Brazil would be great.
Great gel that i combine with s leave in and an oil to get soft managable and bouncy curly hair. Great for wash and gos as well as braid and twist outs.
I really like this product, it makes my hair look less frizzy and defines my curls well. i USE deva curl no poo cleanser, then follow it up Deva one conditioner. I scrunch my hair while washing out the conditioner and leave some on. I remove excess water and apply royal curl shaping creme and finish it with deva curl light defining gel. My hair sets amazingly well after it dries off.
I am very surprised that the ratings are not even higher for this product. It is the best thing I have ever used on my hair. I am not exaggerating when I say this, I have found my holy grail. First of all is the way my hair looks and continues to look for up to 4 days. Second, this product is mostly natural and it is inexpensive. I have tried every recommended method out there to get smooth, shiny, frizz-free curls with reduced bulk and nice definition. This works. Here is what I do and my hair has held up even in rainy humid weather. First I wash with Devacurl no-poo, then I condition with same and scrunch with cond in it as water running through to clump up curls. I leave a tiny bit in when rinsing. Then when I come out of the shower, I press towel into hair and scrunch towel gently to squeeze excess water. It's ok if still dripping a little. Next I finger comb small amounts of QH Royal Curl and then with a relativly fine tooth comb, I comb it out straight. Next, I again scrunch, and now my hair is looser clumpier and I scrunch all around head gently with bare hands trying to maintain as much clump as possible and alsogently doing a grab and scrunch from about 6 inches down from crown upward so that the hair is not flat at the crown. Last, I don't touch again until dry. To dry, I sit under my Babybliss Pro hooded dryer for 15- 30 minutes and then wow my hair looks great. I don't touch it unless completely dry. I sleep with a pineapple and usually the second day looks even better than the first. I love this product!!!
I love this product. its doesn't dry out my hair it define my curls down to the root with out making my hair hard.
This is a great curl definer and it has really good hold so i can use it like a gel. It works wonders on my hair especially with the royal curl conditioner.
I use this on my edges when I wear my hair curly to prevent them from frizzing. It defines my curls and doesn't dry out my hair. I also love how it's all natural. I just wish I could use it all over my head.
Gross. Hair becomes instantly hard upon application. Then it dries and feels smooth! Then ur hair slowly turns into a frizzy, undefined mess. A rollercoaster, this one, for sure...2 stars for the fresh smell. Too many humectants for my liking.
I have tried all types of curl definers from Hair Rules to Kinky Curly - ALL LEFT MY HAIR FEELING LIKE STRAW! But this stuff is WONDERFUL!! I co-washed and detangled first then sectioned my hair. I used maybe a dime size per section and the curls just came alive! Needless to say...a KEEPER!
When I first used this it did define my curls but when it dried it looked like a horse chewed my hair up and spit it out. It looked so matted and dry. But since I had ordered two jars from amazon.com I was tempted to get my money worth out of it. So I kept playing around with until I found an application that works and doesn't leave my hair dry. I freshly washed my hair and parted it into sections. The section that I was working on I applied shea moisture smooth and racked it through that section than I sprayed my olive oil and water mixture to the same section and racked it through then I applied the queen helene royal curl and shingled and smoothed it through. When I dried my hair was not dry and it did not have crunch and my curls were very defined and glossy so now I absolutely love this product and ordered more of it from the seller from amazon.com.
This gives great curl definition but it does dry your hair out when dry....like seriously dry to the touch but not dry looking. I do love the results when wet so will have to add some type of oil (maybe jojoba or shea) to mix into it so that it does not dry my hair out so bad. I will use what I have but I definitely will not repurchase.
I have a mixture of 3 b and 3c curls. This stuff works GREAT!! It also has a very pleasant clean floral scent. I found that when I apply the royal curl in sections it works best. I also use eco styler (green bottle) with it to hold my curls. I gave it 4 curls because it did leave my hair a bit dry. I use a lite cream moisturizer after my hair dries.
I absolutely love, love this creamy gelly like pudding. I have thick collar bone hair and this stuff does the trick to maintain my twist or when I do a twist out. I must admit my hair prefers gels over creams for styling. If your hair prefers the same you may like this also. My hair is left shiny and moisturized.
Me and my middle daughter both tired this product and received wonderful results. I have a 3C hair type & she has a 3B type. We both had very good curl definition without the frizz, flakiness, or crunch. I have tried an number of various products ( Miss Jessie’s (Curly Meringue &Curly Pudding), Mixed Chicks (leave in condition), and Kinky Curl (Curl Smoothie)) and they all left my hair very dry and flaky. Each product had given me very good curl definition, but by the second day, I had to rinse some of the product out to reduce the flakiness. However, with the Queen Helene Curl Shaping Crème, it really moisturized my daughter’s hair and mine. After using a diffuser to blow dry my daughter’s hair (her hair about 14 inches in length), she had super volume and shine and it keep the curl definition. If you have type 3B or 3C hair, definitely try this product
i LOVE this stuff it leaves my curls soft defined and bouncy for days which no other product ever did before. I use the conditioner from this line as my leave in under the curl shaping creme and that also makes a world of difference for me. Some people compare this to kinky-curl which ive used before along with the knot today and i prefer the queen helene because it doea the same as kinky-curly only better for me and my hair doesnt take all day to dry with the queen helene and when it does dry it's not at all crunchy like the kccc. this is a definite keeper for me
This product wast great for my TWA> However, for longer hair I think it eh...ok. I tried it on my TWA and wasnt quite impressed. It takes a while to dry. it is crunchy/hard. Wasnt Very defining for my curls. However,on my daughter's long hair. It was really nice. used a denman brush on it and the curls were very pretty. Even used it on the ends of her braids and twists and the result was good. I tried using it as a moisturizer for pony tails and it was only ok. At the end of the day, it will get used. Unless I learn some other great uses for it, this will be a one time buy.
I needed a glycerin intervention! If your hair tolerates glycerin this may be a workable product for you. Initially, it clumped quite well, did reduce my volume -- not a plus for me. But when it dried so did my hair. Just leached the moisture from my hair and I had to rewash the next day.
I was looking for somethng to replace or supplement the uber-expensive Kinky Curly Curling Custard, and Queen Helene's Royal Curl Shaping Creme is NOT that product. This mess goes on hard and stiff. It has a jelly-like consistency, but absolutely no slip on my 4a/b hair. Instead of curl definition all I got was poof. My hair looks like the lovechild of Don King and Phil Spector. I was hoping I could use this product up rather than trash it. I'm going to mix it with my beloved KCCC and see if the results are at least humanoid. If I could give this product a big fat ZERO, I would!
