I can't tell if it actually helps my hair, but the smell of this product makes it worth purchase.
I use this milk on dry 2nd and 3rd day hair and love it. It keeps my 3C curls big, fluffy, not stiff or crunchy-- and works to define and smooth my curls if used with a light oil after a wash.
Mine is Yucca & Baobab, but it's basically the same product, and I love it. I put in a little after rinsing out my conditioner and then I follow up with spray gel, and my hair turns out soft with thick, sturdy curls.
3c, fine, low density, low porosity hair. This is my HG item. I've been using it for about a year now along with homemade FSG and my hair looks and feels great. My curls are defined and ropey, bouncy and healthy. It doesn't weigh down my hair or leave it frizzy. My only concern is that it's getting harder to find now that the other SM products are getting popular.
3a/3b low porosity hair. To be honest I have no idea if this is actually working, BUT the smell is so damn nice that I don't care :) You don't need much of this. I put it on damp hair after my KCKT leave in. Just a nickle size for my curly bob-length hair. It gives my hair a smoothness and slip that I really enjoy. Too much makes my hair feel slightly weighted and greasy though. I follow with styling gel or mousse.
I have a different version it's Shea Moisture Yucca & Baobab Thickening Growth Milk. I love this. The smell is great. And I can see a little more volume. Very smooth. Doesnt have as much slip as I would like but still good.
The product allows me to detangle with ease. I used the milk as a leave in incorporated as a part of my LOC method technique. After using the milk my hair was super soft, moisturized, and felt stronger and thicker with just one use. The smell is fresh and clean. I will continue to use the product as I continue on my growth journey.
I've used all of the products from the coconut & hibiscus line that Shea Moisture has, so I am familiar with the expectations that people have when they decide to switch to another line. I really love this product, because it offers what I liked about the coconut & hibiscus curl style milk had but it has a different smell. And after a while of using the same product, I wanted to switch up the smell that followed me around all day and night. I like this smell because it's clean and well not coconut (coconut is still really great, but I'd been using it for so long I was getting sick of the smells!). It doesn't really add volume or thicken the hair, but my hair is already very thick so I don't know if I would notice a big difference anyway. Definitely a product worth trying!
I am Caucasian and I have long, super, super, super FINE, low porosity (healthy) 2b/2c combination hair. I use the curly girl method. I washed with Alberto VO5 moisture milk, and conditioned with Suave Naturals. The directions say to use it as a leave-in conditioner. So that is what I did. I experimented with the amount of this product. I applied this product to my hair sopping wet, damp and dry. I tried a pea size, a nickel size, 2 dime sizes and a quarter size. This product FAILED. When my hair dried it was super, super, super frizzy! This product did not make my hair feel thicker or fuller. I did not get any wave or curls definition. Touch-ups on dry hair dried frizzy too. In Dallas Texas it was 103◦F. the humidity was 77%, and the Dew Point was 70◦F. My hair is really healthy and I don't think it likes the protein. I am battling humidity and I keep a hair journal for new products. I found that when I applied all the following to wet hair I got amazing FRIZZ FREE, defined, shiny, crunch-free, soft, bouncy curls! I used a quarter size amount of Kinky Curly Leave-in conditioner, Kinky-Curly Spiral Spirtz (8 pumps) and Kinky-Curly Curling Custard (a pea size). I let my hair dry. I reapplied a tiny bit of each product. God bless Kinky-Curly products! They are my Holy Grail for Deep South Summer humidity!
GREAT! I use it after washing my hair and put the oil as a sealer.... I have been using it for more than 6months now. I love it, my hair feel halthier.
I just started using this on my 3a high porosity, medium texture hair, as a leave in and LOVE it! I use this interchangedly with KCKT. This has a nice, but strong, smell- it reminds me of something from when I was a little kid, but I can't place it. It's florally, with maybe a little musk mixed in. I think it blends nicely with my vanilla body spray. It's very creamy and has nice slip- I don't know about the thickening properties, but I do like it better than the curl & shine line. I also have the conditioner that I use occasionally to co-wash, and will be purchasing the shampoo and spray from the green line as well. I found the C&S (pink) products to be too heavy in my hair and made it feel producty/ oily/ tangly, but this does not give me that heavy feeling. Highly recommend!
I love Shea Moisture products! I use this for my thin fine hair. This product leaves my hair very soft and more manageable. The smell is not bad either.
Awesome stuff ladies!! I'm just sayin'! I use this everyday along with my usual products. I mix this in my palms with the AsIAm leave-in conditioner as the cream part of my L.O.C. moisturizing system. I can feel my scalp tingling after I apply this stuff! Some people say the smell is weird, but I find it calming. My hair isn't greasy, weighed down, or flaky or anything with this milk. It's awesome like I said already. You need to add this to your arsenal.
I wanted to love this stuff. I have to say I haven't been pleased with any of the Shea Moisture products I've purchased and used (the Coconut and Hibiscus Curling Smoothie, the Raw Shea Butter Deep Treatment Masque or the Coconut Hibiscus Shine Spray) so I was reluctant to try this one. However, I do have fine 3b hair that has a tendency to get weighed down very easily. I don't even know what my hair does, actually. It just looks like absolute s***, day in and day out. For me there is no such thing as a good hair day, and 2nd day hair-what is that? But I digress. I was excited to try this because it says it adds volume to thin hair, and god knows if my hair lacks anything it's volume. It goes flat on top and then the rest of my hair just follows suit. I put this on after co-washing with Tressume Naturals conditioner and used some of my Say Yes to Carrots leave in conditioner. I put this on top of it and then went to sleep with my hair plopped. My hair looked so bad the next day, it was seemed oily and my curls were not defined and looked worse than they usually do (and that's pretty remarkable, seeing as I didn't think they could look worse than they already do). I decided to try again. This time I washed with Nature's Gate Herbal Shampoo (love the way it smells) and my usual Tressume Naturals conditioner, but I skipped the SYTC leave-in and used this as my styler and leave-in. I let my hair air-dry and went on my way. FIve hours later I put on a beanie and swore that I would never use this stuff again. It did not add volume, it did not soften my hair and it did nothing. My hair also felt very...greasy, almost. My curls were not defined and I looked like I had just gotten out of the shower and my hair had dried instantly. Also, the way this smells reminds me of a funeral home. It's safe to say I will not be using this product again, and unless by some miracle I can find a way to get Shea Moisture products to work for me, I will have to swear off of them for good.
Overall, this is incredible! I used this as a leave-in and it was excellent on my hair! My wash n' go had so much volume. Will buy again and they sell it at Wal-Mart, well my local Wal-Mart.
Used to use SM Smoothie and Souffle, but I would always get the product feeling in my hair. Never even noticed until I used this instead! Wow! My hair is so soft and I'm in love with the no residue feeling! Definitely noticed a difference! Less frizz, more volume, soft hair, no product feeling! Does everything it says and more!
love, love and love this product some more! I use it as a leave in conditioner and the instant I put it in my hair I noticed shine and my hair took it VERY well. The smell is very pleasant. the only downside is that it smells so good you will keep adding more then needed! Definitely recommend!
the smell to me is not the worst but not the best. my hair is colored and the ends are thin and weak but my hair is not necessarily fine. i got this because i am trying to grow my hair really long and help the damaged ends i like that this is all natural and REALLY like some of the ingredients it has, especially biotin. i'm using this as a leave in and it is leaving my hair so soft and shiny. I would def repurchase and want to try the other sheamoisture grow products
I have tried just about all of the shea moisture hair line and I must say that this is not what it seems. When I first applied to my freshly washed hair, it didn't detangle but it made my hair soft instantly. It also isn't a moisturizer so it made me a little confused. I am still using it but only as a healthy hair growth serum. I probaby won't be buying it again though because there is no use of it in my future regimen. the smell is definitely toned down more than the organic raw shea moisture retention line which is great.
I should say: I don't know how this product works over the long term -- my 1-curl rating is based on how absolutely awful it smells. They say it's a honeysuckle fragrance, but it smells like musk that's gone sour and sweat and some kind of chemicals. I put it on one time, hoping the fragrance might improve, and got a migraine from it; had to wash my hair just to get the smell out. I took it right back to the store. If you are fragrance sensitive, try the Curl & Style Milk instead -- it smells great!
This product got my hair clean, without stripping my hair.... and moisturized it at the same time. check out a more detail review on youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=udlNwd9dh_Q&feature=plcp
Really like this product it moisturizes my hair nicely. The floral scent can be a little strong at times, but it is a wonderful moisturizer. I have been using it off/on for a about a month and it consistantly provides me with a nice soft fro. I can't speak to the thickening and growth claims, but I do like this much better than the other hair milk from Shea Moisture that I have tried.
I really like this. I don't know if it aids in growth yet since I haven't been using it too long but the smell is great and it makes my hair feel really soft.
