For the price this can't be beat. It has great hold, and it's moisturizing. Lots of leave-ins and curl cream need to be used beneath this, and don't expect easy 2nd day hair, but if you quickly need definition and hold, this is terrific. I'm not a huge fan of gels, but this is one of my favorites for those times I need one!

I don't know if I used this the wrong way or what, but it did NOT work for my hair. My hair felt dry and frizzy after it had dried. The smell of this is amazind though! Fresh and not too strong. Perhaps it would have worked better with something else? Perhaps a leave-in conditioner? I think it seems like such a good product, just didn't work for me..

I agree with a majority of the raters stating this gel isn't the best. I have always had very thick, soft, naturally curly hair and had a permanent wave for about 3 years just to tame it. After I decided to go back to natural, I wanted to make sure I used healthy and more naturally moisturizing products. I was using EcoStyler gel, which worked, but I had to use more of it to hold my hair. So, when I ran out I found this new gel at my local beauty supply and decided to try it, because I'd always had success with their brown protein gels in the past. But just as 'Themedievalist' stated in her review, it goes on thick and sticky! I started to wash the gel out of my hair too, but just decided to add some more moisturizer to thin it out some. What I found out is that depending on the type of moisturizer you use, mixed together with both Ampro and EcoStyler gels, it creates a light (almost white) creamy film in your hair that is hard to blend in or brush out. And both gels caused flakes in my hair too. I guess because my hair is so thick, I have to use more than normal. So if you don't wash you hair every 2 or 3 days after re-applying it, it does flake and looks like you have dandruff. I bought the entire 32 oz. tub (big mistake!), so as soon as I'm done using it all, I'll probably just go back to the lighter EcoStyler until something better comes along.

This was literally the worst product to ever touch my 2c/3a curls. The second i scrunched this into my wet hair, it became sticky and tangled - and I only used a dime-size amount! I actually had to run back into the shower and wash my hair to get this out. In all my years as a product junkie, I have never felt the need to do this. For all I know, it would have looked surprisingly good when it dried, but it wasn't worth finding out. I'm so glad that at least I got this as a sample and didn't pay even two bucks for it.

I'm not usually a fan of gel (I hate for my hair to be crunchy and I generally don't need that much hold to get curl definition), but I tried this at first to smooth my baby hairs down (I used an old, clean toothbrush) and it worked so well and didn't flake a bit, so I mixed a dollop of it with some styling creme for an up do and it worked spectacularly! It provided that extra bit of hold I needed and gave my hair a beautiful, polished shine. I'm definitely a fan, and will purchase this when I run out!

This gel is golden! I use it for wash and goes and re-wetted second day hair. It is a great sealer over Shea Moisture Curl Enhancing smoothie and I get soft but defined, shiny, poppin' curls! There was absolutely no flaking or residue left behind, even when I layered it over and over everyday! I prefer it to Eco Styler, because its thicker (maybe has more oil) and so its more effective it smoothing and sealing any unruly kinks. Definitely worth buying again and again!

LOVED this stuff! It didn't weigh my hair down or leave any residue but did a fantastic job of holding my curl pattern (and actually helped bring out a few ringlets that aren't usually there!). The smell is very light and goes away as it dries.

I'm not a big gel person, but this did hold my hair well. For 3 days it did not flake on me, but it did flake on the 4th day. I was pleased with it over all as it did exactly what it was supposed to do. It was thin and smelled good. Worked quite well with my hair natural and straight.

It works just like brown gel! Its a bit lighter, smells great! holds my styles well! This gel does flake a bit, but it not enough to make me dislike it. I would definitely buy again!

Not fantastic, typical gel, it did leave flakes in my hair and my sisters, although we were careful not to apply too much. Wasn't drying, but didn't feel very moisturizing either.

I got this product as a sample and I have I say I like it. It's comparable to Eco gel. I haven't seen it in stores yet but I will keep my eyes open to check on the price. the hold is great a little too much for me but I'm sure I could balance it out.

Ok. I know for sure that none of you can get this product for 1.79 like I did! Yeah, I got it from a great hair supply store that has great reasonable prices! Well I have 4a/4b hair. Compared to the EcoStyler it does not cause your hair to become hard all over. I'm heavy handed w/ products, but that's the only way my hair can get the best result; doesn't respond when products are applied lightly. To get to the point this product didn't leave my hair moisturized. I already had applied a leave in before putting it in my hair, then I had to apply the leave in again over it! It's just ok as a curly definer or gel moisturizer (does enough to get out the door or by). The EcoStyler gets a 5 out of 5 (regardless of hardness), Hawaiian Silk 4 out of 5 ( it really moisturizes, curls aren't strongly defined as Eco but still pretty)...this product looks like ish, crap, etc. next to the two. It's just ok. I don't think I'll buy it again.

I was skeptical about this gel at first. I am not used to using gels in jars for my hair; they tend to be heavy and sticky and leave my hair feeling gross. However, I was pleasantly surprised to find that not only did this gel work with my 3a curls, it worked GREAT. I applied it just after showering and when my hair had dried it felt soft and stayed relatively free of frizz all day (which is saying a lot in Texas).

I was looking for a gel with olive oil because other gels have dried out my naturally curly hair. I came across your brand while shopping at the hair store today.. I purchased two. I used it for the first time to define my curls and I love it! I also love that the product is reasonably priced. Having olive oil as a natural ingredient for natural hair is a plus. I hope you continue to provide it for women of color like me who have thick and curly hair.
