This was my first time trying JBCO. I'm happy this size was available to try. I expected the oil to be silky and lighter, but it was heavy and thick. That was not a problem, just different than I expected. The week I started using this as our oil, my daughter's naturally thin hair started to thicken. The hair at her temples is finally thick! I wasn't even aware that people used this for that reason. I was just looking for a good quality oil to use for the LOC method. I even mix this with our leave in and styling products. My daughter has fine hair and I thought this would be too heavy for her but surprisingly this works well in her damp hair or after I rub it in my hands first.
I love Jamaican Black Castor Oil. I pair it with the Sunny Isle Organic Extra Virgin coconut oil and use as my oil when doing the LOC method. Keeps my hair moisturized and also aids in treating my dandruff.
I have 3c/4a hair and this is by far my favorite oil and i only use this line!!! I have been using this line for the past 2-3 years and whenever i stop using it, i can totally see a difference in my hair. It makes my hair stronger and thicker!!
Love this product. I use it in my homemade leave-in and use it every night on brows and lashes. Will buy again.
I love it my hair lives thick oils this is great bon the scalp for hair growth I put it on my scalp when my hair is braided under my wigs and as a sealer to seal moisture
I bought this product before and it was great! VERY THICK! Now it is THIN! As if they took something out of it. Not as good as before. That is probably why they are selling the "Dark caster oil " now. Really sad how money changes products. Once lots of people start buying it, they change the ingredients to save more money.
I was not overly wowed with this product. Firstly the stuff about ash content improving the effectiveness of the oil is complete rubbish. The ash is inert particles and the darker the oil the more you are buying stuff that is not improving your hair. I feel like dark castor oils got popular because people associate purified castor oil with stomach problems and old people. The smell wasn't too appealing to me, though my husband thought it had a nutty quality. Alone I can't use it in my hair because its like trying to put tar on my scalp but I do like to add it to my oil mixes. It does provide a lovely shine and moderate moisture but I think Macadamia Nut oil is better for this. I did some research and it turns out castor oil's trick is it is effective in reducing inflammation. If you have problems with your scalp, burns or damage to your hair, castor oil may help you reduce the inflammation of our scalp and get shocked hair follicles to start growing again. This can be especially good for fragile edges or if you just started transitioning . If your scalp is healthy and you don't have inflammation I think there are plenty of oils out there that do a better job. I will continue to add it to my hair oil mix until it runs out but I don't think I will repurchase.
I found out this oil helps hair growth if used properly. Basically when I used it 1hr(on scalp and hair staff) prior to washing my hair, it seemed as though my hair was still moisturized but clean (and this was after using a shampoo with harsh chemicals). Also I use this VERY LIGHTLY as a sealant over moisturized hair(usually by a good leave in or after deep conditioning) and it makes my hair feel very soft. I also believe that this oil is helping with my scalp problems(itching) as well. As long as i wash it from my scalp 1hr prior to washing my hair it's good. I also learned (by using this oil) that oil on my scalp makes my head itch, clogging my pores, and preventing hair growth, so it made since for me to was it out. And that's when i realized that washing it out with warm water made my hair soft.
I'm new to JBCO (I know, I'm behind the curve), but I'm excited so far. I've used this JBCO on my scalp after a wash, and as a sealant. I will echo other reviewers in that there is an odor, almost like sesame seeds/oil. It gets four stars for that, but don't count this product out. Just use a light touch. Other than that, this oil has been touted as a strengthener, and I must agree that I've noticed less breakage.
I love that they offer this in smaller sizes which are an affordable way to try out a product. As a child, my mother used castor oil when hot-combing our hair. While my friends were telling me I need to "grease my scalp", my mother would warn us about avoiding petrolatum based products. I never knew it was supposed to have hair restoring properties, which is one of the reasons I purchased it in hopes of seeing some growth on a thinning patch I have on my hairline. I will say that this makes and excellent, lightweight edge "gel". The consistency isn't watery; it is almost like a serum, so it is easy to manipulate. I especially like it for sealing in the moisture when twisting my hair and it leaves it very shiny. I also did not detect any harsh smell with this product. I would purchase again.
My thinning crown and edges are filling in! This is a great oil for hair growth. It also adds softness to hair. I have found a holy grail!
Thanks Curl Mart for having a sale and free shipping, I was able to purchase the Sunny Isle Black Castor Oil. I have fine/thin natural hair that really need to thicken up. This is a great product, the price is fine because it last a while, the smell isn't too bad. I just want my hair to grow thicker out of my scalp lol. Thank you Curl Mart I will be looking forward to the next sale...also I'll keep you updated on how my hair is doing with the oil.
My hair is fine and did not take to the castor oil in the past. I recently had my hair dyed and figured I'd give it another shot. And I love it. I mix it with coconut, olive, and lavender oil. My hair is nice and shiny and moisture is sealed in for days. ??
I freaking love this oil! I got the 2oz at first and fell in love, so I decided to get this 8oz. The product really does what it says! Although I am not fond of the smell, it is still a good product.
This oil is very good. It is a thick oil, so don't use too much! Just a dime sized amount works for my entire head. I use it as a sealant and it does its job well. I have noticed my hair seems much more "alive" after using it consistently. The reason why I did not give it five stars however, is because I personally don't like the smell of it. It is a bit strong in my opinion, and because most other natural hair care products have a sweeter smell in general, it doesn't mix well smell wise with other products (moisturizers and leave-ins). I use it with Darcy's Botanicals sweet cocoa been curl smoothing cream because that is what works best for my hair as far as a moisturizer, but this moisturizer has a chocolaty scent, so after putting it with the oil, it pretty much cancels out the moisturizers smell. Overall however, I am pleased with the product and will continue to use it. I am finding other ways to use it as well.
Great staple. I love mixing this with other oils and conditioners for added moisture because on its own it is a little heavy for me.
I like this product, it leaves my hair soft, I've been using this since my transition to natural to fully natural, great!
A very nice moisturizing oil that I like to mix with another oil. It absorbs well into my hair. It smells nice- like roasted sesame seeds. I would definitely repurchase.
If you can ignore the smell, Jbco is just Bomb. Besides the noticeable hair growth onmy hairline within less than 3 weeks of usage, it's made my hair SOOOO Much softer, and my hair is about as kinky as it gets. I approve.
I think this product has my first 5 star rating. This may be the only product so far which I will deign to call an HG Product for me. How I use it: as a pre-poo mixed with a conditioner that is not too expensive (Usually cantu butter). As a mayo mixed with a leave in conditioner that I can apply to my new growth and hair about 3X per week. As a scalp massage oil mixed 2 parts JBCO with grape seed oil or almond oil (the oil is too heavy to use alone) as a sealer (alone) to seal in moisture or product after I twist my hair. the oil softens hair and can settle the the cuticle nerves of even the most upset or hardened hair (due to protein or other chemical treatments. I am always guaranteed soft hair and silkiness after a few applications. I also can say that this oil )or other brands like Tropic Isle) are also responsible for the regrowth of my edges which were decimated by braiding. so I am a true believer in JBCO. I find this brand thicker and more redolent of the cooked beans than other brands--to soften the smell, try mixing a few drops of peppermint oil into your bottle. As for the Ylang Ylang--stinkiest stuff I ever tried. I am going back to the plain bottle once my ylang ylang mixture is done.
This is the best oil ever! I decided to stop using KCCC, because it dried out my hear and left me with fairy knots and split ends. I use the castor oil as a sealer after adding Shea Moisture Curl Enhansing Smoothie (SMCES) and Giovanni 50/50 as a leave-in. I love that it is fragance-free, because it neutralizes SMCES smell. A little goes a long way and be sure to use a moisturizing leave-in before the oil! My hair dries fast (a couple of hours) and is soo soft, with just the right amount of definition - no ramon noodles here! I have second day hair again, which I was only able to achieve with KCCC. After day three though, my hair is ready for a good cleansing with either Jessicurl Cleansing Cream or DevaCurl Noo-Poo Cleanser. This method has eliminated my fairy knots and made my 3b-3c curls happy and healthy. Plus I have half the shedding that I had before! I also use it for my facial cleanser too, using the OCM (oil cleasing method).
I am enjoying the product so far. It is a thick, heavy oil, so once I master the appropriate amount of product, I will be good to go. I can't wait to get some serious growth with this oil.
Definitely one of my staple products, it's so versatile. I use it for my face, eyebrows, skin and hair.
i don't have anything bad to say about this product because i have only used it 3x so far. i am using it for hair growth and thickness. i will have to do an updated review after 30 days of use. so far, it put it on my scalp daily, as the website says, and i have done one hot oil treatment (JBCO + wheat germ oil).
Feels good when you put on, but don't use too much. I only gave it 3 stars because the top broke as soon as I tried to open it. Now I have to find another bottle to put it in. Good moisture!
I love this stuff because it is super moisturizing. It is very thick and sticky so you have to be careful with your application process. I find that it makes a great sealer because it works well with Shea Moisture Curl Enhancing Smoothie and Tigi Curls Rock Curl Amplifier. At the end of the day I am very satisfied with the results because it gave me great second day hair without reapplying. Just spritz some water in your hair to reactivate, air dry and you are good to go.
The fact that it is dense and rich and thick is kind of a double edged sword. While it is deeply moisturizing, application can be tricky and if you don't use just the right amount, it can leave your hair feeling heavy and sticky. I like it best as pre shampoo scalp treatment and for my ends. I also put a little bit on my eyebrows to try and encourage them to grow in thicker.
Great product! Its very moisturizing and good for sealing after using a water based moisturizer. A little goes a long way and if too much is used it can weigh your hair down. But overall I love it! Also good to use mixed in with your deep conditioner :-)
I like it! Of course using and oil is a must in my hair care regimen anyway... using this thick castor oil on my wet hair was great. I felt like I was really putting something good in my hair and it never felt like too much. That's a good thing! My hair felt conditioned and moisturized... Good stuff!
