I was pleasantly surprised by this product. I refused to try it when it came out because I was put off by the price relative to the amount of product you get. I received a sample with my last purchase of One Condition and put off trying it because I didn't think the sample was going to be enough for my entire head of hair. I was wrong. A little of this stuff goes a long way; I have enough of my sample left for another application. As for my hair I am loving my curls today. They are soft, plump and shiny but I feel like I have enough hold to get second day hair. I have tons of volume (which I like) but 0 frizz. Finally, the smell of this product is amazing (It smells like Set It Free). I am only giving it 4 stars because even though I can see that you don't need much I still think the price is a bit high (I don't see why it needs to cost more than their gels).
Had high hopes for this curl cream, because I love most of the DevaCurl line, but this one is loaded with proteins (my hair hates them) and I ended up with dirty looking clumpy curls. Even using Wild Woozle Tiare Pommade after it dried, which normally fixes ANYTHING, couldn't fix this mess.
I've been moving away from Deva products in the past six months or so, but when I went recently for a haircut, she styled my hair with this and I really liked the results. I'm also getting great results at home! I have fine, thick 3b curls, bsl, and use 3-4 pumps of this before plopping. Then, post-plop, I kind of style it into place with my fingers . . . and I'm done! This is the ONLY hair styling product that I can use on its own and get work-appropriate hair for two days from it. I'm still using the Shea Moisture souffle when I don't have to go to work because this stuff is $$$, but I think it's worth the money for days that it really matters. :)
Gives great curl definition to my hair that I never knew it could look this great! I use on wet hair after applying 5 drops of rose hip oil to the ends and then just scrunch 3 pumps DCSC into ends and length (shoulder length) and scrunch with hair hanging downward while bending at my hips. Stand upright and scrunch a bit more, airdry. Wonderful!! Second and third days, I put 1 pump DCSC into my left hand, dampen my right hand and rub hands together before scrunching in as above. Wonderful again!!
I was skeptical as I debated ordering this bec of some reviews. I'm so glad I stopped hesitating. Day 1 washed with a gentle shampoo, micro towel wrapped (wrong to do, I know) for 15 min, wroked in a quarter size dollop of Curl Keeper, then a 3 pumps dollop of Diva Styling Cream. I started at my roots and then the length and finished with the scalp with my head tipped down. Raked my fingers thru hair, shaking to separate a bit, then began scrunching and continue to scrunch a bit as I stood upright. My hair is about to the top of my shoulders and wavy with some curl, but very fine and easily weighed down. At this point I had a great deal of thinly clumped curls with more volume than experienced since going naturally curly 15 mos ago. Air dried as wet appearance, a bit stiff (CK always does this to my hair) in places, but most drying normal and groomed. Scrunched out last of stiffness when fully dried. Awesome waves, curls, and some spirals. And SOFT!!! I didn't know my hair would do this! The best I have gotten it yet! The day was cold (31) and between light rain and snow; I was in & out several times while hair was drying. Day 2, a bit flat in back, but my hair almost does not pineapple; front sides wavy. Emulsified 1 pump Diva SC in hands and scrunched thru dry hair. Let it air dry and lightly combed from underside with my Mebco detangle comb (a must have!): terrific loose waves, curls, and spirals with soft volume! Weather cold (35) and misting with spits of snow, outside twice. Day 3 (today) soft waves on rising, somewhat flat in back. Used 1/2 pump Diva SC in left hand, moistened right hand emulsified SC with wet hand and worked into dry hair by scrunching. Beautiful, soft waves, curls, and some spirals with some volume, NO LIMPNESS or weighed down hair, or excess product feel. A bit pricy, but when I find what works like this, it will be my go-to styler!
this smells delicious. i am hooked on the devacurl products scents. i used it on wet hair under anGel & set it free. it gave my wavy/curly hair AWESOME definition! and my hair was also very soft. it kind of made little clumpy balls when mixed with the gel when i was applying it, but once my hair was dry there was no residue or anything left. it is pricey yes but i like it
The first time I tried this product, in a sample I received, my curls popped- I actually had ringlets in my wavy hair!. Couldn't get it to do it again, though. It isn't recommended for wavy hair anyway. I traded it with someone for a different product. I will not buy again. My hair: 2b, low-porosity, medium, medium, protein finicky.
Actually I have not had much success with this product on wet hair -- or maybe have not learned how to use it properly on my wet hair. Also I'm pretty happy with my first-day routine and why fix what's not broken? But this cream has become my go-to product for second, third, even up to sixth day hair to smooth out the frizzies! For my hair, this product fulfills the same function as Curly Hair Solutions Tweek, only that product did not work at ALL for my hair. If you've ever seen Jonathan Torch's video of how to use Tweek (you can see it at frizzoff.com), that is exactly how I use Styling Cream on dry hair. So basically, in the morning, I use start with a very small amount, maybe about a dime -- you can always add more if it doesn't seem like enough (but too much of this cream can feel "producty" so I have be careful not to use too much) -- and smooth it over the canopy frizz and then kind of gather my hair on top into a ponytail and smooth it over it. I don't rake it through with fingers, I just smooth it over the hair. Then I check the back of my hair -- I have long hair with layers, so it if still looks at bit frizzy on top which is where I have most of my frizz, I may gather that section and smooth some cream over it. I find I can put a little bit of force into this, pulling it over the hair, and it won't take away any of the curl, in fact it refreshes the curl a bit, but mostly tames the frizz. At this point the hair is a bit damp but there is much less frizz than before. I will say that throughout the day, some frizz may return but then the cream can be reapplied. Also, I have lately discovered Jessie Curl Oil Blend, which I have found works great on top of the Styling Cream. So after applying the Styling Cream now, I will spray one spritz of Oil Blend (which consists entirely of avocado oil, jojoba and coconut oil) into my hand and smooth it over the hair. These two products combined work even better and I am able to stretch my good hair days up to 5-6 days! So I am really curious if anyone else has tried using this product on dry hair to tame frizz with any success?
I can't believe how well this worked...I got a free sample with my One Condition without high hopes, but I thought "what the heck?!" and went for it. Alone, it worked really well. My hair was defined, shiny, and not too voluminous. One problem was that I think I used to much, so my hair felt kind of oily/dirty. The reason I gave this product 4 stars instead of 5 is because it is just so expensive. You really don't have to use a lot though! So maybe I will purchase this product in the future. I'm now trying to use even less with the ArcAngel, just for fun. Hopefully it works well!
I use this without anything else it is perfect. I can't even describe. As soon as I put this on my curls are defined and beautiful and it last all day through any kind of weather. I wish I can purchase 20 of them but my budget limits me to one bottle as needed. I highly recommend. =)
I have been using this over the Devacurl Mousse with great results. Usually I would use a curl cream on its own but I just tried this method in a crazy whim moment and it worked really well. What a great surprise. The only tricky part is not to use too much.
I am not "big" on uing the DEVA products -- simply because their results are nothing special and the products are very difficult to get where I live in Canada. I had a deva cut two weeks ago and this product was used. The smell is great and I got excellent curl formation and hold -- and the curls are soft. I purchased two bottles. So far this product has been delivering great results on my 3b hair. My only resevation is the price which is why I gave it four curls -- IF I can find it here, it is 34 dollars!
My frizz days are over! I started using Devs Styling Cream a month ago and I have had almost no "second" or "third" day frizz. It doesn't weigh my 3B curls down like most products and I finish with the new great Deva Spray Gel. Best new products I've used in years!
I really thought I'd love this, as I used to use the One Condition/Set It Free routine with great results, and still use SIF as a refresher. The routine just got too expensive, and I didn't like how long my hair would take to dry (since your hair has to be very wet when doing the One Condish/SIF routine and I don't diffuse). So, I was excited Devacurl made a cream, which your hair doesn't have to be as wet to apply. The cream feels more like a cream-gel (but does not hold like a gel). It smells like a lighter version of Set It Free. It says to apply on damp hair, which I thought was nice so the drying time wouldn't be as long as my other Devacurl routine. I think I could have waited until my hair was even a little drier before applying it, because the product itself is pretty wet. Anyway, I sectioned my hair into 3 as I usually do with creams. A few pieces of my hair looked a little white, telling me that I probably used enough. I was a little worried because some pieces of my hair looked stringy rather than its usual clumpy and wavy when wet. When my hair dried, which took about 6 hours, ugh, (it is past my shoulders, fine, and there's lots of it, but it takes a good hour less with other products), about 3/4 of it had definition and 1/4 was frizzy. Even the sections with definition clearly did not have enough hold. I could tell this when I gently separated a few of the bigger clumps. I will not get 2nd day hair, and with a $25 product! In order to look presentable enough to go out, I had to add SIF, and still ended up looking like my hair tends to on it's 2nd or 3rd day or when it is humid. I will try this again, maybe using more, but I doubt that was the problem. We should not have to spend $25 bucks, have to add a 2nd product, and only get so-so results. I get much better results for 1/3 of the price with Alba Botanica Soft Hold Styling Cream. This product said it is best for botticellis and corkscrews. I have corkscrews with some botticelli thrown in so I don't know what the problem is. I guess it's just not right for my particular texture (fine 3b that looks more 3c in high humidity). Hope it works for others.
A balm-textured cream. I was worried it would encourage frizz with that texture, but I had great curls that were soft and encouraged nicely. As the weather has moved more spring-like and rainy, like most creams, this product hasn't faired as well, but it's definately a keeper for fall/winter temps.
I've wanted to try DevaCurl products in the past, but am not fond of gels and sprays for my 3c/4a curls. When I saw the Styling Cream advertised I was willing to give it a try. I co-washed my hair with Curl Junkie Cleansing Conditioner (great product) and added the Styling Cream in about 4 sections. I air dried and ended up with soft, bouncy, touchable curls. The product has the light hold that I love from other creamy products. I'd describe it as a heavy conditioner with a fruit candy scent. Will definitely be a go-to product for the spring.
