I had heard so many wonderful things about this product on how it really brought out the waves in your hair. Unfortunately, it didn't do a great job at making my fine subtle waves look any different than usual. Also, the product scent wasn't very pleasant. I probably will not be trying this product again.
This stuff keeps the frizz away for the most part... doesn't work great on really humid days. It doesn't leave your hair overly crunchy, but if you use too much it definitely leaves it flat! I've used MANY beach hair products and unfortunately this one is just OK... not my favorite. I like the Moroccan OGX paste better, or Oribe surfcomber mousse (another one you only need a little bit of). Also the new Bumble and Bumble surf oil mix is supposed to be AMAZING for curly hair!
Really wanted to integrate this in my daily styling regime and define loose curls , but I have very fine textured , long 2b hair, and honestly my hair can't tolerate styling products -- I literally used half of a droplet of this product because if I used more, my hair looked loaded with gel. I know, it's crazy. At that pace-- if I used it every day, I would use up the bottle in 3 years, so I just returned it. It did define curls but I needed more product to cover and adding more looks crunchy, so I couldn't win with this popular product. Sigh
I was tempted by all the great reviews to give this a try, although it's actually the first product with silicone that I've used in a couple years. I was pretty happy with the way my hair looked with this - my short 2c/3a curls stayed nicely defined all day. However, my hair doesn't feel as nice as it does with other products; I get some crunch/hardness with almost every product I use, but my favorites are the ones that I can scrunch out to reveal soft but still defined curls. My hair looks great, but feels kind of gummy, or grimy. I've only been using it every other day, because I'm nervous about getting buildup from the silicones; my curls have seemed a bit limp recently, but that may just be because I'm in need of a haircut. So, after using this for about a month now, I'm definitely planning to finish the bottle, but I'm on the fence about whether I would buy this again. My honest rating is probably about 3.5/5, but I figured I'd round up rather than down.
Not a fan favorite. My hair is fine and wavy, and with this product it looked dirty and glue-y. And I used a very small amount. Didn't like the smell, either. Sigh.
I can't even express how much I love this product. I like to wait a bit before reviewing a product for fear of jumping the gun. I have been using Beach Bomb for a month now and I am hooked. I had been using Mop Top Light Hold that I still like, but I like this more. Gels look good but sort of freeze my curls so you can tell I have product in my hair. I had preferred a more natural, free look but thought it was impossible to get beautiful, defined, shiny curls that look product free. I have 3A hair that dries in big ringlets. Most people have said this is better for wavies, but it's been a miracle for my curly hair. Beach Bomb defines and enhances, fights frizz, and makes my hair so soft, but without the freezing effect of gel. My hair looks product free and feels it too. I can flip it and swing it and touch it. It's my hair, just better. This doesn't dry crunchy at all, but on occasion, usually if I use too much it does, and a light scrunching will do the trick. It goes on really smooth and soft when you're rubbing it through. I love the smell of it too. The texture of it in your hands is kind of like glue. The trick is really finding the right amount, which is tricky because ever so slightly too much or too little can effect the look. A little goes a long way, but too little and you won't see the full effects. Too much and it could look a little stringy. Also, this works better if you don't have a build up in your hair. If I do, it makes my hair look stringy and producty. You also don't need much leave in with this. Again, that'll make it look producty. Beach Bomb is moisturizing on its own. Most people just scrunch it in, which works fine. But I prefer more even distribution. So I smooth it on, then I rake it through, then I add a little more to my hands and scrunch.
I kind of hate to be the 1st person on here with a not perfect "5 curl" review. But after seeing such great reviews from people with 2A,2B and 2C curl types I figured well this product is meant for me. I tried it with my deva gel, without my deva gel, with a leave in, without a leave in….. It just made my hair stringy. I LOVED the scent and really really really wanted to just be in love with it like the other reviews but I couldn't. I have started using Re:Coil Curl Activator and I find I get clumpier, softer waves/curls with more definition and lift at the roots.
Works great for my 2b/c curls if I want them ropier, more spirally than say Devacurl Gel. I like it better than Re:Coil, because there's no crunch. I've found the trick is to wrap my hair in a microfibre towel after I've squeezed the water out, but without combing or crunching. Keep it on about 10 minutes then put this stuff on. Second-day hair isn't as great, but I've not really found anything that is with my fine but thick hair.
This product does everything it promises! Prevents frizz, gives curl definition and texture, and leaves no greasy residue. I have Type 2a hair, and a little goes a long way. I apply it to damp hair and allow it to air dry, and I get perfect beachy waves and curls. Awesome!
LOVE this product! I have fine hair, but a lot of it. I also have looser curls and I don't like when products make my hair hard. I want touchable curls, and this product is amazing. Some days I shower the night before and wake up and try to do my hair. With this product, I dampen my hair a little with water and then put this product, by basically brushing it in with my fingers. It dries without frizz and holds all day long. It is perfect, and smells amazing. It honestly smells like summer. Then when I am going to a special event or want to look nice, I put this product in my hair, using my fingers, right after I shower and my hair is not soaking wet but wet, and then I diffuse it. I love my waves with this product. I can count on it every single time.
My 2b/2c waves love this! Great for looser, clumpier, piecier curls. Doesn't weigh my hair down on top like some products. Love!
This stuff pleasantly surprised me! The last AG product I tried, the curl trigger spray, mentioned 'beach' in the small print, and it did horrid things to my hair. But this is a whole other kettle of fish! I tried it because I can get it locally, not expecting much. But it really is nice. Performs best for me on wash day, rather than just condition days, but it leaves my curls bouncy and separated, they don't shrink, minimal frizz, and they really do stay nice for a couple of days. I'm really pleased with it as an everyday kind of product. Just a heads up, the ink on the bottle is oil soluble, so if you grab it after putting any kind of oil in your hair, you will be wearing the black and purple ink on your hands and there will be nothing left on the bottle. The pump leaves something to be desired too. But even with that, I will buy again.
I am just all smiles when I think about this product! My 2A hair is the hair type that has the smallest curl pattern so it is exciting to find a product that really enhances my curl pattern. This product lives up to it's name. The first time I used this product it gave me "Beach Bomb" waves. The best part was that it wasn't heavy or appeared that I used any product at all. It truly enhanced my waves to look like I just came from the beach. I have tried, loved and do not intend of ever stop using this product. This is the best beach wave product I have ever tried so far!
My 2C hair has a mix between loose waves (with little to no definition) and tight s-shaped waves and curls, I've tried a lot of "beach" products for piecey beachy waves but they're normally sticky and heavy. This product was the best I've tried for this beachy wave look, it actually gave great definition to my waves and then I added some oil to the ends for shine.
I love this for defining my curls! It took away a lot of the frizz I normally have, and really made my curls look good while not feeling crunchy like a gel would do.
Okay, heads up....I cut my curls from mid back length to Meg Ryan "City Of Angels" length. And it was AWESOME after using this product. Yeah, yeah, I know the Trimethicone thing. Guess what? When You start over, and plan on keeping your hair this short with great wavy, beachy curls anyway....cones really don't factor in as much. Knowing as much as I do about longer 3B hair, I WOULDN'T use this in the hopes of trying to get Gisele waves on 3A-3C hair. For 2's only if your hair is longer; but it's great for 3's if you have short hair. Used with AG's Fast Food then a nickel size amount of Beach Bomb to air dry. Love this stuff....and my hair stylist! She's the "Bomb", too! Sorry, couldn't resist!!
Love, love, love Beach Bomb. I use with my ReCoil Shampoo and Conditioner and then apply this to my damp hair. Letting it dry naturally, I seriously get the best beachy waves. It is my holy grail now, along with that shampoo/conditioner -- I always get good results. You don't need much for fine hair, and it's good for 2nd day hair too. You can add a touch of AG The Oil if needed also.
This is the brand new AG product and I love it. Did I say love, yes big love. My curls are so curly with this and well defined. It is a thrill every time I use it. I apply it over a leave in conditioner and the chunky curls come alive. My hair is so so happy with Beach Balm. It performs very well in the hot humidity which make it my new HG product - yippy. The smell is great too.
