I bought this product one week when I was really pinching pennies. The first time i used it as a "mousturizer" and aside from leaving a strong perfume-like smell, it did nothing. It sat under the sink for a while and yesterday I decided it to give it another shot while retwisting my hair. It worked out ok and I did get decent definition, but I already had other product in my hair, so I am not sure if its all thanks to this product. But over all i guess it's okay.
First off this does have a really wet kind of consistency. This does define curls but if my hair wasn't well moisturized it would dry it out extremely. The main reason I hated this was because of it's very wet consistency, it takes WAY TO LONG TO DRY.
I decided to try this on a whim. I was searching for a moisturizer and bought this bc of the amount of product for the price and its ingredients. Its consistency is thin and "wet". Not like your typical moisturizer or hair pudding. The first time I used this it was on my 3 day old flat ironed hair. I should note that I am transitioning from textlaxed to natural. I usually don't have problems with my hair reverting or acting strange from products but this did just that. Not only did I get major reversion but it also made my hair kind of hard, clumped together, stringy and difficult to detangle. The 2nd time I used it was on freshly washed, damp hair. I applied about a quarter size amount to each (8)section of my hair. I sealed with evoo. The hold was average I guess compared to Shea Moisture products. I don't wear braid or twist outs for my than a day or two so I guess I can't really comment on that even though this is what it is marketed as. I'm having a hard time keeping my many different textures and curls types moisturized but this did a good job...in fact it did a better job than actual moisturizers like the ones from ORS and Creme Of Nature. It did provide a nice shine for my normally dry, dull hair and the consistency actually worked for my edges. With a satin scarf, this slick my edges down quite nicely. It has strong fruity scent when you first open the jar but once absorbed into the hair it dissipates to a subtle pleasant smell. Even though I used this as a moisturizer ,I still rated this based on it properties overall but I doubt if would perform much better if used as its designed purpose. I'm going to use this sparingly on wet styles until its gone but I wouldn't repurchase.
I received a full size of this product in my CurlBox. I didn't have hopes for it because I had never used the African Pride brand before. But this pleasantly surprised me. It is perfect for moisturizing my fine hair without any greasy feeling, plus it is super affordable! Every BSS has this brand so it is easily accessible. I know that this is marketed as a styler, but it really is a light moisturizing butter.
This product's "Ok". I twisted my 4C hair with it. Kind of watery. The product is good for moisturizing, but has no hold whatsoever. After taking out the twists, I noticed the ends were still frizzy. Even though the twists were entirely dry. Won't repurchase this product.
I'll give this product 3 curls because I find it to be ok. nothing I would consider great but ok. I would suggest it as a sealant on already moisturized hair and its also good on your edges if you use a silk scarf also. You should only use a little bit of this product only. very good ingredients though.
