Sadly it's neither sulfate-free or super hydrating like the bottle claims. For my naturally-incredibly-dry hair it did put some moisture back into it but there's no skipping the conditioner one day. It does clean well though and is one of the more curl-friendly drugstore shampoos I've come across.
I have been using this shampoo and conditioner for the past 2-3 months and stopped recently. I went to a hair salon for curly hair and got my curls styled and washed. My hairdresser asked me what shampoo I was using since my hair was so dry. I answered, "L'Oreal EverCurl Sulfate Free shampoo,". My hairdresser shook her head and informed me that in fact, it wasn't free of sulfates. The bottle only said that in order to attract curly haired customers. She also reminded me that L'Oreal doesn't even specialize in hair care. Although you don't see Sodium Laureth Sulfate in the ingredients, there are harsher chemicals then sulfates in it called Propylene Glycol and Cocamidopropyl Betaine. On top of that, this shampoo has dimethicone and amodimethicone in it. But honestly, this shampoo and conditioner did NOTHING for my curls except for dry them out. My hair would feel clean for a few hours, but then oily in the scalp by the end of the day when I just showered in the morning. I haven't experienced that with any other products. Don't get roped into buying this product just because it says Sulfate Free, because trust me, it's not.
This has been my favorite shampoo ever since it has been out. Highly recommend. It does what a shampoo is suppose to do. Clean! It has a great lather and is fun to cleanse your hair with.
Love this product! Smells real good and leaves my hair feeling soft and manageable for days till my next hair wash. I don't have to add anything else to my hair after using this shampoo just let it air dry and leaves my curls bouncy and soft!
It did get my hair and scalp clean. Like.. REALLY clean. My hair felt almost hay like. It smells too strong and it helped to further tangle my hair. The reason I gave it a 2 and not a one is because I now use it to clean my synthetic weaves.
My hair feels clean yet moisturized with this shampoo. A little goes a long way! I purchased this 8 oz. bottle 2.5 months ago and I still have 1/4 of the container left. It has a pleasant mild fragrance and a very light lather. I can't just get away with co-washing. I need to cleanse my hair and this works very well!
This is the only shampoo I use now. I love the scent and I love how it treats my hair. I use it once a week along with it's sister conditioner. It's free of sulfates and yet you still get a very satisfying lather when you work your roots. I love it.
I have no idea how well the product works. The scent was SO STRONG it gave me a headache and flared up my asthma. I had to wash it out of my hair 30mins after applying it.
Worst hair product I have EVER used! Has literally damaged my hair. Limp, frizzy, very dull. Added hair loss, curl was crushed. Everything wrong. Please note that it contains benzoyl (sp?) alcohol, which is neither a short-chain (worst) alcohol or a ("good") fatty alcohol. I cannot bash this enough. It was INCREDIBLY drying, and total hair torture. Damage was immediately (and dramatically) evident after one use. AVOID!!!!! (Also avoid the corresponding conditioner; no comment on the styling products from this line, I have not tried any of those.) Also, the porosity of my hair was increased with this product! It makes me cry. I've done four various deep conditioning treatments (including one professional one!) in an attempt to restore my hair, but the damage is deep. Others have even commented on it. (Upon contact, and after a few days, L'Oreal offered me L'Oreal coupons to reimburse my cost, which was somewhat fair; in truth I believe they should have offered to pay for a professional conditioning treatment.) I would add that this product Contains Multiple Surfactants (the first five ingredients after water are surfactants), at least two non-water-soluble silicones (including amodimethicone), glycerin, and lots of salt. Most styling products from the L'Oreal lines contain silicones, so their shampoos seem to be formulated as abrasive enough to remove those. The few oils are buried deep at the bottom of the (very long) product list. I wish I could give this a zero rating, instead of one. Also, I seriously suspect that at least some of the reviews are fake. It has taken my hair about 6-8 weeks to recover from this HIDEOUS product. Avoid at all costs.
I really love this stuff! It's creamy, gentle on my scalp, has no sulfates or harsh detergents. The main ingredient is sodium cocoyl isetheonate which is becoming my favorite gentle cleanser! The smell is a bit overwhelming for me but I haven't had any allergic reactions to it (shocker!) and I just finished the last of it.
While my hair is shiny, moisturized, and soft, the curls are well defined and the ends don't feel dry, I'm giving this product (and the conditioner) and low rating because it leaves a film on my scalp that lingers for days. No amount of scrubbing and rinsing seems to help and it's making my hair feel greasy by the end of the second day. The residue on my scalp makes it itch and is causing dandruff. I'm really not impressed. I'd rather use standard shampoos and deal with the drying than this. Ick!
I have been using this shampoo for almost 4 months and then started using the conditioner after for about 3 months now! I love it! this is the best shampoo and conditioner i have ever tried. i used to straighten my hair everyday last year and sometimes i wouldnt use a heat protectant. my curls we dull and i hardly had any curls.i started to use paul mitchell curly shampoo but it didnt lather much and it was toooooo expensive for me. this shampoo and conditioner revived my curls making them beautiful, soft, moisturized, and bouncy for just the right price. its a must have
I have not tried this product yet, but based on the reviews I'm just going to put it on a 3.This is a notice to the people who say this makes their hair dull and lifeless. Are you new to the curly girl method? Then if you are, your hair is adjusting to the change from harsh to gentle. Try doing only the first inch of the roots in a nickel-sized amount. If it still looks that way, then I suggest reading the new Curly Girl : The Handbook. I read it and used the washing technique that it said for my curls, and my hair looks great! If your hair STILL looks lifeless, then send me a private message and I'll try to help.
This is a wonderful shampoo! A little goes a long way. I've seen that a lot of people have written that this product makes their hair stringy and knotty and it doesn't do it's job, but I don't know how they could get that result. If you comb your hair with a wide tooth comb in the shower before you put the shampoo in, and you make sure to wash it all out before using the conditioner (definitely use the whole line!) your hair should feel clean, lightweight, and all around wonderful! The smell is beautiful, and when used in the correct amounts you should see wonderful results.
I did not like this product at all. It left my hair dried out, unmanageable, and so tangled I couldn't begin to get my fingers through my hair, I was very disappointed with this product.
My curls were softer and felt less squeaky in the shower (a sensation I've come to associate with a dry, frizzy result) however, it left my curls neither shiny nor bouncy. They were dull looking and a bit limp. I like the thick formula and scent, but it felt awful while using it, stiffened as though I just put Elmer's glue in my hair. My 3b curls didn't like this, and I'm searching for a product that will leave my hair shiny, hydrated, and shows off the red. One out of three isn't good enough.
Was disappointed to discover that this product does contain sulfates. The third ingredient is Sodium Lauryl Sulfoacetate. If you are following or trying to follow the CG method I would not recommend this product.
Smells great but the preservatives make my 2c hair dry and make my scalp itchy! trying to swap this product for something else
LOVE this! Love the entire line. Shampoo gently cleanses, and isn't drying or harsh like some other shampoos. Compliments the the rest of the products very well.
I'm in love with this shampoo and conditioner. I love the smell and the way if makes my hair so soft and shiny! The shampoo is very moisturizing and has a great texture. 5 curls.
I loved how this product made my hair feel clean and lightweight, I absolutely LOVE that feeling. It has a pleasant refreshing scent so it doesn't smell like you shoved your head in a bucket full of chemicals.
I was disappointed with this product as it made my hair hard, also not much lather will not use again.
This was the best product in the line for my hair, I didn't expect this since most shampoos are so stripping. The smell is nice, it lathers well, and I my hair was clean without feeling stripped. It was not as moisturized as I would like, but I still liked the results. This would be good to remove product build up. A little goes a long way with this shampoo.
I loved that my hair felt super clean without making my hair dry later. It was gentle enough to use on my hair 3-4 times a week without any problems. My hair is a bit longer than shoulder length and pretty thick, and I was able to get away with a quarter sized amount by just focusing on my roots.
Smells great, feels good and leaves the scalp clean! What more could you ask for......I recommend using it with the entire line, but if you decide to go with one product, you'll still be happy. What I like it that it cleans the hair w/o drying it out or stripping the hair of all its oils.
It is better than a lot of other drug store shapoos but i didnt think it was the best, it is good to use when i want my hair pretty clean and dont really care if it dries my hair out a little.
I absolutely love this shampoo. A little goes a long way. When I applied it to my hair, I instantly got a nice lather and when I rinsed it out, it was not stripping but it wasnt super soft. I would get this again, and I would use it as my clarifying shampoo.
This shampoo is awesome! I have really dry hair and this totally got rid of it. I recommend using it with the matching conditioner.
I could detangle with this product and it didn't leave my hair stripped..at all. However, it does leave my hair with a waxy feeling that I really don't like...at all lol. This product would be amazing had it not been for the coated feeling, but I would recommend this product to a friend. You can't beat the price and you can find it on the ground.
This shampoo is great! As instructed, I lathered and rinsed once, and it got my hair completely clean. In my experience with other sulfate free shampoos, you may have to do a little more work and do a second lather to get my hair totally clean. Once I rinsed the shampoo out, my hair felt totally moisturized, which was awesome. If you're looking to get your hair clean without that "squeaky clean" harsh feeling that you get when washing with sulfates, then this is the product for you!
Though I have used shampoos in the past, I must admit that although to me shampoos are nothing special, I did like this one. When I began to wash my hair in the shower and started using this product, I noticed how creamy this product was! I also learned that a little, truly goes along way! As I shampooed each section twice, my hair did not feel stripped in the least. Again, I'm not too picky when it comes to shampoos, as long as my scalp and hair are clean without feeling like straw, waxy, filmy or a hot tangled mess. I felt like this shampoo did its job at cleaning my hair and I did like the fact that after two applications to each section, my hair did not feel stripped. Cleaned but not stripped.
As an African-American woman with naturally curly hair, I use a significant amount of hair care products in an effort to achieve softness, sheen, reduce breakage and hopefully promote growth. I know seems like a really tall order, right? To my surprise, L'Oreal's new EverCurl Hydracharge Shampoo has made a noticeable difference in my hair's strength and appearance. This Sulfate-Free shampoo allows me to cleanse more often without fear stripping my hair of it's natural oils which in turn reduces frizz and therefore breakage. Bravo L'Oreal.
This shampoo worked really well for me. The lather was just right, and my hair felt clean and refreshed after rinsing out the shampoo. It didn't leave my hair feeling oily, and I didn't have to use much at all! Can't say I'd change anything about it.
I liked this shampoo. It cleansed my scalp and hair really well and did not tangle my hair. After rinsed, this shampoo left my hair feeling moist and not dried out. This is not my favorite shampoo but it is pretty good. I would repurchase this shampoo.
Shampoo was great. Did not have to use too much to clean my hair, which is usually a problem I have with other shampoos. The shampoo also has a great fragrance and leaves my hair feeling very clean. I would definitely recommend this shampoo to a friend.
the shampoo in this new Evercurl line smells really nice. It also has a good lather which I was surprised as it is sulfate free and paraben free. I felt my hair was cleaned really well and that it rinsed away easily. With also using the conditioner afterwards I had no tangles to brush out which was great since anyone with curls knows tangles suck. I would definitely recommend this new line of awesome products from Loreal!!
I used this Shampoo with the corresponding Conditioner. The shampoo is very silky and a great start to my hair routine. I think this product works best with paired with the Hydracharge conditioner, but I think the conditioner could be used without the shampoo.
This was far too high poo for me. I have 2C/3A hair, and honestly I don't think I'll want to use this again. My hair felt stripped of everything soft, and it makes it harder to detangle later. I'd rather go for the cleansing conditioner that has it all in one!
Generally, I am pro-sulfates. There. I said it. I'm old school, and I like suds. Further, I don't have curls. I have old school, good ole naps. As in, my hair goes past the scale. I may have 4 J, Z hair. So, I was totally prepared to not like this product. When I generously receied this product for review, I couldn't wait to use it, so I used it mid braiding. Yes, ya girl was looking like Martin Lawrence in that episode where he went to the monastery. Laugh now, but the benefit is that I can tell you that it cleaned my hair unleashed, and also the half that was in Senegalese twists. First off, it was not totally suds free. I loved that. LOVED! Then, I liked tht the smell was not too overpowering. I didn't think it was majorly conditioning, but that's why we have the additonal products, right? I ask that shampoos clean more than condition, so if you are looking for that, then I recommend this product. It cleaned, it smelled good, but not ovepowering, had enough slip for me, was gentle enugh to use while taking down braids, and didn't strip my hair.
This shampoo was just ok. It definitely did the job and my hair was clean without feeling very stripped, but a little on the dry side. I wish it had more slip.
Overall a good shampoo. It's true that only a little is needed as it is very sudsy and creates a thick foam lather that feels soft to the touch. For that reason, it is a very cost effective shampoo that does do the job. It did rinse very clean and but a bit dry after the shampoo rinsed. In combination with the conditioner though, my hair did feel very soft. The smell is strong and does linger, but it is a nice smell so it is a personal preference there. For comparison, I typically use Carol's Daughter Black Vanilla Shampoo on my type 2 waves. The Loreal shampoo had much more lather and I felt a deeper, more clarifying clean so it could be good as an in between clarifying option that is not harsh.
The Shampoo was ok for me... I was disappointed. It worked ok in my hair but NOT great. Although it had slip and was moisturizing - it still didn't have enough slip for my preference. The smell was pleasant but it lingered on my hair which is a "No-No" for me. Unfortunately, I will not consider repurchasing this product.
Hooray for sulfate free! This is a great shampoo I would keep using in my hair! Smells great! Has a lather, which I like...makes me feel like I'm really cleaning! It also does not require that you use very much so the product will last you along time. Even with my very long and thick hair, it didn't take much product.
I really like this shampoo. I will admit that the scent took me a few days to get used to. It's not bad, just different. I have really thick hair, so I was surprised that I only needed a nickel-sized amount to get a good lather all over. It washed out easily and left my hair really soft. Combined with the conditioner, I will continue to use this product!
Love love this shampoo; it is rear that I find a shampoo that would not strip my hair. This sulfate-free shampoo works amazing and my hair feels extremely soft after. A new staple!
I have been using this shampoo for about 1 week, and it is pretty good for my wavy hair. I don't have to use too much, and my hair feels soft and less tangly than usual. It has a nice scent, and it is sulfate free which I like. I have noticed that my hair is less greasy while using both this and the conditioner, and I can wait more days between washing. Even 2 days after washing I can wear my hair down and it still looks good! That is something I cannot normally do. So, overall I will continue to use this product.
Loved this shampoo! I was surprised how sudsy and moisturizing my hair felt after rinsing the product out. I didn't feel the need to "rinse and repeat". I really liked the way the products smell, not overpowering in my opinion. I used this with the conditioner and did not have a lot of detangling to do, which was a refreshing change. My hair felt very soft and clean. (Type 2C/3A curls)
This shampoo was just ok. It left my hair very clean, but it felt dry. A little goes a long way, which is nice. I will use this as a clarifying conditioner always with a deep conditioner afterwards. I will not buy this again.
I really like this shampoo... The more I used it, the more I liked it. I love the light, fresh scent and only needed a small amount to do the job. Unlike most shampoos, this left my hair soft and untangled even before I conditioned it. I am so happy that it is sulfate free as well! I would definitely buy this again. It is a good choice for someone with fine, wavy hair!
Love the way this shampoo smells! It was a great gentle cleanser but also didn't leave my hair feeling weighed down. I've used this with the EverCurl conditioner when i let my hair hair dry curly, and also blow dry it out straight. My hair definitely felt softer both curly and straight using this shampoo/conditioner combo than other products i've tried in the past.
This shampoo was very good! and very moisturizing to be a very sudsy shampoo. Left my scalp incredibly clean and cleared out 3 weeks of product buildup without stripping my hair...absolutely loved it and will buy again especially at this price point
This is the best sulfate free drugstore shampoos that I have purchased. It doesn't tangle my hair or leave residue. My hair feels clean, isn't dried out, and smells great after using it.
This shampoo not drying at all and lathers very well. I love that it left my hair feeling very mositurized and soft to the touch.
Loved how light and quick to clean this yummy stuff was; my hair felt and looked clean but not ravaged-- and these are dry times, ladies. Paired with the EverCurl conditioner it does the trick, fast and dirty (I mean CLEAN).
Good conditioner, my scalp didn't feel itchy or dry afterwords. It cleansed my hair good, and didn't leave it stripped.
I love love this shampoo because it lathered up quickly. i only had to wash my hair once. my hair had a lot of curl definition, it felt soft, and moisturized. also, alittle goes along ways, so i didn't have to use a lot.
This shampoo smells great!! That was the very first thing I noticed about it! After using it, my hair was already really smooth and soft. It gives a great lather, and really does a good job with cleaning my hair. I also like how it's sulfate free, so it's like rough on my hair and doesn't dry it out.
Overall, I really liked this product and would recommend it as a cheaper alternative for some of those more expensive curly products that are sulfate-free. Here are my thoughts: Pros: -Thoroughly cleansed my hair -Smells incredibly good -Sulfate-free -Great lather Cons: -Left my hair feeling stripped
I am a big fan of the smell of this line, which is very important to me. Shampoo usually leaves my hair needing a lot of moisture, but I felt like my hair was still soft and smooth after I shampooed.
I bought this shampoo for when I need a little extra cleansing. It gets rid of build up without drying out my hair.
The lather was unbelievable for a sulfate free shampoo. This shampoo felt so luxurious and silkening in my hair. I was expecting my hair to feel the same after I rinsed it out. My hair felt a little stripped afterwards but my hair was thoroughly cleansed.
My hair in its natural state tends to look like Redfoo of LMFAO. I know he probably spends thousands to get his hair like that (maybe), but I'm just lazy. Sometimes I'm so lazy that I'll just use whatever is on sale at my safeway. That's bad I know and my hair frizzes. This shampoo works. It actually conditions well all by itself. And I can still take my 90 second showers! It really cuts down on the frizz while cleaning the hair. Plus, body wash anyone? (Kidding!) Seriously, works well and the smell is nice too. Not overly feminine.
I have been on a no shampoo regimen for about a year now so I was hesitant to try this sudsing shampoo. I must say that I was pleasantly surprised! I really like this shampoo. A little goes a very long way. I literally used less than a dime size on each section of my hair. It lathered really well and left my hair feeling thoroughly clean yet, not stripped at all. My hair was really soft. Two thumbs up for this shampoo.
This is hands down the best sulfate free shampoo I have used. Suds are dense, hair comes out smelling great and my scalp feels really clean. I only have to use a penny-sized amount for my medium length hair. Best of all, my hair is not stripped and dry feeling afterwards.
As a shampoo, this was ok-it got my hair and scalp clean without making my hair feel dry or stripped. As a sulfate free shampoo, I'd rate it a notch better than most-it did lather up decently and I didn't feel like I had to repeat the process to get my hair truly clean. The fragrance was more perfumey than I'd like, but it fades after a while. I used it to wash my hair when I was going from straight to curly, so I do feel that it did well in cleaning out all of the product used from the time I straighten through the duration of it being straight. I just didn't find it to be spectacular. Then again it is a drugstore product, so it's inexpensive and easily accessible so it does get extra points for that.
I loved this shampoo! Even when my hair was wet, it felt clean but moisturized. Once my hair dried it was shinny and bouncy. Even after several washes it didn't dry out my hair like other shampoos do.
This shampoo smells so good! It's almost like a cologne smell, which I love! I've been getting many compliments lately on how good my hair smells too. It creates lots of suds, which is fine. I've tried other sulfate or silicone free products that didn't create suds at all and got used to that and it seemed to hydrate my hair more than the EverCurl line, but I'm waiting to see the long-term results from this brand. I'm still hopeful!
I like to shampoo my hair. There was the right amount of suds that made my fresh and clean. The scent was wonderful and I would use this product as my daily regiment.
It creates great suds and my hair and scalp feel clean. I really enjoyed the combo Shampoo with Conditioner.
For a sulfate free shampoo, this works amazingly! I noticed that it did suds up quite well and removed product build up from my hair. I liked that it wasn't stripping to my hair and it was a little bit thicker than other shampoos I've used. I wasn't particularly fond of the smell, but it didn't smell bad. It just wasn't my cup of tea, although not overbearing or too strong. I did like that my scalp was being cleansed effectively without residue, also my hairline had been cleansed properly as well. Overall a nice product!
This sulfate-free shampoo lathers and foams up more than other sulfate-free shampoos I have used in the past. Since I only wash my hair 2 to 3 times a week, it is important to me that my hair feels very clean with each use. I am very happy with this product and feel that it works just as good or better than more expensive brands! I will continue to use this shampoo in collaboration with the conditioner.
This is an awesome, gentle poo. No flash drying. The test for a poo's effectiveness for me is whether the symptom that told me I need to poo continues to occur after using the poo. It passed the effectiveness test easily. The lather is dense--which is surprising for its gentleness, and I found it didn't distribute all that well unless I used a lot so I found that using some on top of my head and some at the base of my neck and then lathering to connect the two application points used a more reasonable amount and still got the job done. For comparison, I tried both of the EverSleek poos and found them super-harsh and very prone to flash drying, so I was very impressed that the EverCurl formula was a unique product and not just a subtle difference.
My 10 year old curly-haired daughter used this shampoo last night for the first time. She tends to have a pretty oily scalp which often leaves the roots of her hair limp and flat, even after shampooing. This shampoo left her scalp squeaky clean without making her hair feel dry and she LOVED the scent.
Good sulfate free shampoo. It smelled nice and didn't make my hair feel like straw. I wished it had been more moisturizing but that is a lot to ask from a shampoo.
Above average sulfate-free shampoo. It's creamy and my hair feels soft after I use it. Good value. I love the smell of the entire product line.
Liked the way this made my hair feel (very clean), and sulfate-free is a big positive for me.
Good daily shampoo. Smells amazing. No sulfates, which is good. My hair felt clean but not stripped.
