I have 3b/c hair and usually use gel to hold my curls in check but this actually isn't like a gel at all. It's very light, not sticky, and almost feels like a conditioner. It moisturizes, holds my curls, prevents frizz, doesn't make my hair hard like many typical gels do, and smells great. This is my absolute favorite of the Samy Fat Curls products.
I used this on my hair with the curl defining cream and liked it. Its rather on the sticky side but it gave my hair some nice curl definition. My hair is thin so a little went a long way. I made the mistake of one time putting on too much and it left my hair feeling like it had tons of product. Again I liked it but for fine, thin 2b hair a little definitely goes a long way.
Not gel in the conventional sense. It's more like a cream! I like it a lot, it doesn't dry hard and crunchy. It leaves my hair nice and soft. Definitely recommend trying it!
i have never been a gel girl....just never liked how it made my hair stiff.....but this was not like that at all!! liked the results of this very much.....thank you
I used this gel over my leave-in. I braided my hair for a braid out. I had a decent soft hold but it was humid so I had frizz later in the day.
This gel encouraged my curls nicely and had decent hold. However, I had spider weby surface frizz that was there from the beginning and increased during the day. The gel wasn't bad in curl definition/encouragement and hold, but with the surface frizz, it was average.
I used this on a 90 degree humid day with the curl enhancer and had great results. The reason I did not giving 5 stars is because when used alone my hair seems to dry out and looks more frizzy. I think someone whose hair is it super sensitive to drying out as mine is might find this to work just fine, just wasn't for me. As a combo of curl enhancer and gel it gets a 4 out of 5 but gel alone only a 3.
This creme gel was not moisturizing for me and left my hair feeling very dry and less than soft when used alone. I tried using it in conjunction with the Samy Curl Enhancing Creme and it wasn't as drying. However, both times I used this product I had little to no curl definition. It was not able to stand up to Florida humidity as my hair was puffy and frizzy each time I used it.
I have to start by saying that although I have about 4 or 5 different gels at home, I NEVER use gel. Usually only with updos. Possibly because I have bad childhood memories of my hair dresser mother always putting my hair into a bun using tons of gel. All I can think about the hard feeling that my hair was left with every day. The curl defining gel was not like that. Because it has a creamy base, it does not leave your hair with the usual crunch. I used it in conjunction with my normal leave in conditioner, the Samy fat curls cream, followed by argan oil, and the Samy fat curls before applying the gel for my wash and go. After my hair totally dried, there was a crunch for a moment but eventually softened after putting my hair into a pineapple to stretch my curls. My curls were soft, shiny, and defined. My wash and go lasted 5 days instead of my usual 5. I am definitely going to use the gel throughout the summer.
So this I think is better than the mousse. I've only tried it once. At first, I didn't like it when I was first drying my hair, but once it dried completely the curls were soft, and there wasn't too much frizz. I'll keep trying it to see if this keeps up.
I used this gel on top of the mousse and got a decent amount of hold. It is fairly sticky but my hair didn't feel that way once it dried. 2nd day hair was very dry and unsalvageable.
I didn't feel like this kept the frizz down. I loved that it didn't get crunchy like some gels!
I have fine, thin, 3b curls, this gel created good curl formation along with the Samy Fat Curls curl creme. It is kind of an odd consistency, it's more similar to a gel/cream but I like it cause it's easier for me to distribute evenly. There was a lot of crunch that I had to scrunch out after my hair was dry but after that my hair looked good and the good formation lasted most of the day and after working out.
I'm going to go against the grain here and say this the worst gel I've ever used on either myself or my girls (me: 3b fine with a ton of hair, the girls: 2c thick and wavy and 3a super fine) We applied the Samy Fat Curls Curl Creme under this gel. It was an odd milky white consistency, which felt horribly tacky while trying to apply. Each one of us had frizzy hair that felt like straw but managed to look oily. Wouldn't bother to use again.
I really like the feel of this gel since it does on lightweight and not sticky. I applied a decent amount and diffused. My hair looked fantastic after diffusing... lots of body and volume, great definition, and SOFT!!! As the day went on, the curls frizzed up a bit which is why I am only giving it 4 curls instead of 5. I am going to layer a little bit of the cream under it to see if that holds better, but overall a great gel with a perfect price tag!
Good gel definitely eliminated frizz. The only reason it is not 5 starts as it has some crunch, but that was easily scrunched out. Good products :)
The product is light and not sticky. My hair definatly had more volume as it dried. My curles formed nicely and were not frizy. What I liked most is my hair doesn't look wet or weighed down. My curls are very uniform and springy. Today it is 90 and humid out and I have perfect curls!!! I parnered this with the mousse. I am gong to try it with the cream next. Thank you Fat Curls.
The product smelled clean and fresh and didn't feel sticky in my hair. My hair seemed to have a bit more volume when wet. My curls formed well. I was thinking no way was this gel going to work for me, because it didn't look like it was holding my curls from separating or frizzing. When I let it completely dry, I saw that I had nice spirals, not frizzy, and not as weighed down or wet-looking as my usual gels made my hair. My curls have some shine , which is great to see without the wet look. I like the more natural look and feel to my hair hat I'm getting from this product. I look forward to using it again. Next time I will use it with the mouse or creme.
I really liked this gel.It is light weight and not sticky at all.I have been using it with the Curl Cream everyday with great results. My hair is not frizzy and it helps define mine curls well.HIGHLY recommend
Best gel I have ever tried! Held my hair in place, kept the curls defined, at the same time leaving them soft and bouncy.
This is probably the best product from this line. This is the ultimate "no gel" gel. You don't see it or feel it once hair dries. Leaves hair bouncy and natural. LOVE!!
I can definitely say this product gave me lots of curls, but I also had a lot of shrinkage. This is only day one so I can't say how good the hold is yet, but I like the fact that my hair is soft and there is little to no 'crunch'. This is definitely not your traditional gel; the consistency is more like a lotion. You can certainly tell water is the main ingredient...my hair was almost wet again after using this. My hands and ears were a bit sticky after use, but it cleaned up easily enough. Would have to say this is my favorite Fat Curls product out of the 4.
This product is not your ordinary gel. You can actually manage your curls after applying. It's not a heavy gel or a flaky gel but it's formulated to tame the curls and you don't have to run to a hair dryer to keep the curls, just apply and let it air dry. You will be satisfied.
I liked this Curl Defining Gel a lot because it gave great curl definition. I had no crunch to my hair. My hair felt moisturized. It did not feel dried out. The only thing that I did not like about this gel was that it left a coating on my hands.
Loved it. I think this is my favorite product out the line. I thought I was not gonna like it as I was applying it to my hair. The next day I had smooth ultra defined curls that could have lasted for days but I play in my curls alot. Also I used this alone over a leave in.
The defining gel worked very well with my waves. I used it with the mousse. My waves stayed in place all day and I was satisfied at the end of the day. I loved the end result.
This product had a nice scent. It's a very light and I didn't find it to be sticky. I found it hard to believe it was a gel. Dries slightly crunchy and gives very nice definition. My hair felt very soft and looked shiny. Unfortunately, as the day goes on, frizz and poof appeared. It really doesn't have enough hold for me. I need a gel with more hold, because second-day hair is a must for me.
The morning that I used this gel for the first time, it was a CO wash day (I alternate water-only/rinsing one day with CO washing the next). I used my usual leave-in (Beauty Without Cruelty), then the new gel. I looked at weather info. Humidity 63%; dew point 48*. Since I never used the product before, I didn't really care what the weather was, I just wanted to try this gel to see how it held up for me! I liked the smell of the product. Smelled clean and fresh and not overpowering. Didn't feel sticky in my hair. My hair seemed to have a bit more volume when wet. I attributed this to the gel not being hard hold like I normally use. My curls formed well. When my hair was heavily damp as I left for work, I was thinking no way was this gel going to work for me, because it didn't look like it was holding my curls from separating or frizzing. When ingot to the office, I saw that I had nice spirals, not frizzy, and not as weighed down or wet-looking as my usual gels made my hair. My curls have some shine , which is great to see without the wet look. A bit of frizz as the day went on, but still looks almost the same as this morning when I got to office. I deducted one point due to the slight frizz. I like the more natural look and feel to my hair hat I'm getting from this product. I look forward to using it again. Maybe I need to use a little more product next time, or pay better attention to make sure I am evenly distributing in my hair.
I have found this to be the best gel I have tried. It is easy to distribute though my hair, and leaves no crunchy hard hairs and no clumps. It picked my waves right up and made them actual curls! Even better is that is has thus far lasted two days, and I still have the curl and have only needed a very light refresher spray in the mornings. I will definitely keep using this one!
