LOVETHIS! The amount of hold depends on how much conditioner i leave in my hair before putting on gel and also how wet my hair is. Your end result can crunchy or soft, Conservative curls or wild curls! Just experiment with different amounts to find what works for your hair. I use the ECO krystal gel now because it's a bit stronger. PS This makes my hair a BIT dry. That's an excellent trade off for the amount of control I get over my resistant curls :)
Love, Love, Love this gel. I just starting doing wash n gos and this gel is the best. I will probably try other gels but this will be my staple.
Pleasantly surprised by this gel! Since spring hit, I've been scrambling to establish my new routine for the hot, humid southern weather. This is now my go-to summertime gel (I used KCKT, SM Curl Enhancing Smoothie, and KCCC [as my 'hold' product]). I use it with KCKT and Karen's Body Ambrosia Sweet Nectar and get lovely curls every time, as long as I don't get overzealous with the gel - you don't need much. I just lightly rake my fingers across the surface of the gel in the tub, apply to one side of my hair, and do the same on the other side. This works great on my low density, high porosity (but healthy), 2c hair. A few things: 1) the gel is kind of thick, so I apply on wet hair on top of my other styling products, and mix the gel with a splash of water in my hands to thin it out a bit before putting it in my hair. 2) to get nice clumps, use the "prayer hands" method and DO NOT OVERWORK your hair after you have applied the gel or the clumps will break up, tangles will form, and stringy hair will be the result. Apply and scrunch quickly, then hands off. 3) if you have an oily scalp like me, avoiding the roots when applying this gel might be a good idea. I use some type of volumizing mousse or gel at my roots, then use Eco Styler on the length. Overall value: for under $4??? Can't be beat. Performs as well as KCCC for me, except in the summer instead of winter (KCCC doesn't have a strong enough hold for summertime where I live). The crunch will have to be scrunched out (I do so by scrunching with my hair down, then flipping my head over and scrunching up from the roots, and finally run my fingers lightly through my roots to break the cast from my other gel or mousse, then flip my head up again and shake it a little), but as long as I did not overapply, I was left with soft, defined, touchable curls with no crunch.
Maybe wrong type of Eco. The olive oil type left a few white flakes on my edges..I may try another type..
The hold of this gel was waaaay to weak. Can't believe that so many people praise Eco styler for the hold while for me only the sports version gave OK hold.
I rep for Eco-Styling gel, HARD! It has amazing hold, smells great, doesn't leave ANY flakes. I don't use it as much because it is still a gel and can dry out your hair but it's cheap, smells good, effective and you can't go wrong with that!
Worst of Eco lot. Like other gels I'll only get hard hold unless my hair has absolutely nothing on it but water. There is a scent, it's not over powering but I don't like it. Its a very chemical smell. While it does the job for my of setting styles, with a non flaky hold it makes my hair very dry. I suggest trying the other types in the range if you have that problem
I Have 3a/3b hair. This gel has enough hold to use when I diffuse and still look well defined with minimal frizz on day 2. Despite the hold, it really didn't weigh down my curls too much except on the top. It's too stiff for an air-dry free and easy day, but perfect to use on a day when I'm running around teaching elementary kids! Zero crunch, and the price is good, too.
This product felt a little heavy for my 3B hair and was a little chemical laden for my taste. However, it softened up once it dried, and while this was a little too much hold for my 3B hair on normal days, it worked really well during a few humid, wet December days. It could be a great product for slightly curlier hair than mine (especially during wet weather) and you can't beat the price.
I have 2c thick, long hair. I usually opt for the mommy ponytail because I cant get the curly looking NOT crazy. But my husband loves the curly, so I gave this a try. Packaging: OK. Smell: neutral (I'm picky about that). Consistency: It's gel, so it's kinda sticky, but it dries pretty soft and not crunchy. Result: I thought I looked good, but my husband came home and didn't say anything, so I freaked out for a moment and thought maybe he's just being polite and doesn't want to tell me I look like Weird Al (No offense, I'm sure he takes great care of his hair, but it's not the look I was going for). But really, I looked in the mirror again, and my hair looked really nice curly. Luckily, my husband complimented me later without me fishing for a compliment (I just had to be patient), so we both liked it!
Really liked this gel and was pleasantly surprised by how little residue or "crunch" it left in my hair. I don't often use gel but for a sleek bun style this is perfect. Kept all of my flyaways well tamed without giving me "helmet head!" A little bit doesn't necessarily go a long way but luckily the price point on this product is super low so I don't mind getting a little heavy handed. Definitely recommended for anyone looking for a gel that's gentle on your curls but gets the job done.
My husband traded out his standard alcohol gel for this product per a recommendation. he loved it and so did I. His hair did not look hard, chrispy or flakey . It lasted all day at a job that is sometimes busier than most. It is becoming a staple in our household.
Love this gel for my 4A hair. It's the best for doing my wash and go and doesn't leave my hair stiff at all. I'm usually able to get at least 4 days out of a wash and go with this. I also like using this to tame any fly aways.
I LOVE this gel. I'm normally not a fan of gels, but this is excellent. PROS - Perfect hold for 3 days (does kind of frizz by 3rd day) - Leaves hair soft without crunch - if you do have crunch after it dries, scrunch it out - CHEAP! - Super easy to find - Neutral smell - A little goes a long way CONS - When you apply it, it's kind of sticky and weird HOW I USE IT In the Shower: - WASH my hair with a SULFATE FREE shampoo - Shea Moisture Tahitian Noni & Mono Shampoo - CONDITION my hair - EO Essentials Rosemary and Mint Conditioner Out of the shower (have hair soaking, dripping wet for best results - hint: the wetter, the better!): - APPLY - Kinky Curly Knot Today Leave-In Conditioner (for moisture) - STYLE (wether that's finger coiling, flexi rods, twist-out, etc. I finger coil) - Ecoco Eco Styler Gel Olive Oil - SCRUNCH OUTCOME Beautiful, bouncy, moisturized, and soft 3b curls with little to no frizz and hold.
I love this gel so much.At first I didn't know how to use it with the right products but it's great.my hair is a mixture of 3c to 4b.And is affordable. Can buy almost anywhere and is great for twist outs,Flat twist, and more
I loooooove this product. I'm on my 2nd hair and didn't have to apply anymore product just a little water. I usually have to rewet my hair in the shower and apply it all over again, but not for this! My curls are very define still and there is no more crunch. The first day my hair was crunchy but not unbearable. I also sealed my hair with olive oil. I highly recommend this product for everyone!!!!!!
I just love Eco styler olive oil gel. It's the only product that has been able to define my 4c hair flawlessly. I just add a little bit of shine afterwards and my curls pop up beautifully. I am yet to see any product that beats it so for now, I will just stick to it. I love you Eco styler!
This stuff is a hit or miss, but I always miss. I combine it with eden bodyworks curl defining creme and brush it with a boar bristle brush, and I 'm left with hard hair that gets tremendous product buildup. The same for braidouts and twistouts, even when I try to scrunch it out, I'm left with product buildup in the form of flaking, LOTS of flaking. I've given up on this gel, but my moms' hair that is 4b loves it.
I really do like this gel! It's one of my staples. The smell is sort of perfume-ish and the consistency is a typical, gel-like consistency. It Is sticky and leaves back a good bit of crunch. If you do use this gel to style, I suggest doing a twist out, that way, you don't have to scrunch out the crunch. It comes right out when you unravel the twists.
I have 3b/c type hair and I love this gel! I am very heavy handed, and priced at $5 for a 32 oz is perfect. I like the smell and consistency. It does leave my hair a little crunch sometimes, but I can easily smooth it out. It leaves my curls well defined and completely frizz free. It clumps very well too. It is really important that a leave in be used underneath this, as it will leave your hair looking dry. I does flake after a few days.
I love eco styler gels in general! And this is a great one! Scrunched out well it leaves the hair shiny and bouncy!
My Holy Grail Styler!! I like the smell of this gel way better than the argan oil eco styler. This gel gives me up to 3 days of curls before I have to wash it again. No flakes and no excessive build up either. This stuff is great. I always apply the ecostyler gels with giovanni direct leave in and wet hands. It works perfectly to control frizz. I use this gel once a week when I twist my hair after washing. It keeps my hair from shrinking too much during the week which helps prevent matting and tangles. Even if my hair gets a little 'fluffy' (not the good kind), I just spray a little water on the section and rake some of the gel on it and wapow! curls tamed. The only problem I have with it is that, when mixed with certain leave-in conditioners, it WILL clump on you and you'll have to wash your hair all over again.
I purchased the smallest container of this gel from my local beauty supply store because of all of the wonderful reviews that I heard about its ability to define various textures of curls and coils. I used some to define my hair on top of my favorite leave-in and some olive oil for a wash and go, and I'm very pleased with the shine and bounce that it gave my short 3c/4a/4b hair. My only gripe with it is the fact that my hair is kinda crunchy, but I think that this can be remedied with a little more olive oil. I'll definitely be repurchasing. UPDATE: I've perfected my wash and go using this product by not only adding a leave-in and oil underneath, but also a thick moisturizer/styler. It's been working out so well that I recently purchased the second-largest container of this gel.
I love this gel. It is sort of sticky and if you're not used to using gels, it may seem scary at first, but it dries so soft if you don't use too much. I get the best results from this when I section my hair first and apply it. The smell is so neutral I love it. It works amazing to combat frizz.
This product is my holy grail for wash and go's, it can keep my hair frizz free for about 3 days. However if you put to much it will be to crunchy and/or flake. To combat this problem I break the gel casting (what makes your hair feel crunchy) by applying a NON-sealant oil, eg. olive oil. It doesn't leave a white film when used with a creamy styler, smell greats and aids curl definition. Love this product.
This product does help keep away frizz. Because it gives so much hold i will put a quarter sized amount at the top and a dime size at the bottom since the top of my hair always poofs up. If you use too much of this product your hair will get crunch and flake.
Keeps my curls defined and frizz free for wash day and day 2. I have to reapply it after spritzing my hair with water on subsequent days. While I like soft curls, I'd give this 5 stars if the hold was kept up for more than 2 days (without having to refresh curls with water). I also noticed some flaking which may be inevitable when you use as much gel as I do. Overall, if my #1 gel wasn't available - I'd use this as a back-up.
I don't know if my hair has outgrown gel, I used to use the Arran oil one. I tried this one and I really don't like it!! It's not moisturising it kills my hair! I don't like the smell of it and like all Eco gels it is misleading. It has olive oil way down on the ingredient list! I am NEVER buying this gel AGAIN
Amazing!!! This was the first Eco Styler Gel Ive ever used... And I dont regret it!! It provides amazing hold and keeps out the frizzies, it also defines my 3b/3c hair and does not leave it with flakes and residue. Plus, its CG friendly
I've had this jug for the past year & never tried it for anything other than slicking my hair back. Over this past weekend I used my leave in(TN), put a little oil mix on that & topped it off with this gel & got BEAUTIFUL, defined, soft, moisture retained curls! 4 days later I'm still rocking my wash & go. I was stopped in the store & asked what I used & the individual thought I had done a rod set! Why did I wait so long to use my gel for something more?! SMH! All the money I could've saved myself.
This defines my curls, but makes them HARD. I gave away the giant tub I bought because it was just too hard and took to long to dry.
