I know that for some of you, summer feels a million miles away due to strange weather happenings all over the country.

For us in the south, we're already baking in the 90s, and I am more than ready to get my summer wardrobe ready to go. This means bright colors, espadrilles galore, and plenty of beach side accessories.

To get you in the mood, I have included a few of my favorites that will be sure to drive any fashionista crazy with envy. Enjoy!

Aquarella Africa Collection Swimsuits

The suits from Aquarella Swimwear are sure to be winners on the beach this year. Each collection has variations of styles to suit any body type. My favorite is the Africa Collection (shown above). Those prints are fierce! Blah blah blah blah blah.

All girls should embrace color this season, but if you're a little color-shy, try donning something colorful and small like the Wildflower dome ring from Sobral.

Nine West Boutique 9 Espadrilles

Nothing says summer more than a pair of espadrilles. Classics like this pair of Boutique 9 leather and raffia espadrilles from Nine West are red-hot this summer—pair with long sun dresses or short shorts, and you can't go wrong.

Many of you have been asking questions about the new hair straightening treatment we've been talking about. We asked for a few facts from the company, Farouk Systems, and we wanted to share them with all of you! Also, check out the video below that I did highlighting the process from start to finish. Just post any questions to this, and I will try my hardest to answer them all, or find someone who can!

Farouk CHI

Q: What is the CHI Enviro American Smoothing System?

A: This revolutionary treatment eliminates up to 95% of frizz, reduces curl and instantly adds amazing shine, silkiness and condition to the hair. It is a protein reconstructing complex with amino acids, proteins, silk and pearl to increase shine and strength. It is free from formaldehyde and formaldehyde-releasing chemicals. Its protein and amino acid complex allows temporary change in the structure of hair fibers, leaving hair easier to comb, as well as silkier, smoother and shinier hair.

Q: When can I color my hair?

A: Hair can be colored immediately following the smoothing treatment with Farouk Systems Ammonia Free colors.

Q: When can I shampoo my hair?

A: You may shampoo your hair 48 hours following the smoothing treatment. However, do not use pony tail bands, clippies, headbands or anything that would stifle the hair’s straight pattern for at least 48 hours following the treatment.

Q:How long will the results last?

A: Smoothing treatment results can last up to 4 months depending upon hair type and maintenance at home from client. It is recommended that customers use the CHI Enviro Home Care Maintenance Shampoo and Conditioner.

Q: How long does the treatment take to complete?

A: Average time is usually 2 hours. The length, density and amount of hair will determine the time spent during this service.

Q: How soon can customers do a touch up?

A: This hair straightening treatment can be given again after 4-6 weeks. It has no harmful chemicals. Only amino acids, proteins, silk and pearl are infused into the hair.

Megan in all her natural curly glory

Like many of you out there, I was burned by the (dare I say it) keratin treatment companies. We were all led astray with barely factual information and sub par results. CHI Enviro American Smoothing Treatment is a far, far cry from what we are used to. This treatment is completely natural and environmentally safe, being made of pearl, silk, and amino acids (amino acids are critical in many processes in your body, including being a key factor in building proteins).

CHI gave me the opportunity to have the treatment done and see for myself that CHI is the good guy in the market of smoothing treatments, and I will say that I am more than a little shocked and definitely a firm believer in this product. The process is fairly similar to other smoothing treatments, with a few major differences. For starters, when Rafael (CHI educator and stylist at Kent of Europe Salon in Austin, Texas) took his flat iron to my hair, there were no gassy fumes choking me or making my eyes water. I actually didn't even notice anything, until halfway through the process I noticed there was a little steam, which was the product leaving my hair. Rafael made me smell the product before he applied it, and I was surprised to smell vanilla, not harsh chemicals.

I was skeptical that a treatment with these ingredients could actually work in smoothing the frizz and loosening the curl, but CHI Enviro’s protein and amino acid complex allows temporary change in the structure of hair fibers, leaving hair easier to comb and hair that is silkier, smoother and shinier. The protein and amino acid complex is what allows the system to straighten the hair.

At this point, I felt relieved that I was actually getting what was promised to me, but starting to get nervous that it wouldn't work well, and I would leave feeling underwhelmed. It is recommended to wait at least 24 hours before washing your hair after leaving the salon, and I was nervous about the "after" effects. After washing the treatment out, my hair had never looked shinier and healthier. I was stunned and excited, knowing that stylists and salon patrons around the globe could be safe when getting smoother hair. I told Rafael about the salons that were making stylists and clients wear gas masks, and we both agreed that this natural and safe treatment was a no-brainer.

I will keep you all updated on my journey with this product and let you know how it maintains. So far, so good. I am loving my soft, beach-y waves!

It has been close to a month now since I have gotten my Brazilian Keratin Treatment, and my hair is definitely changing. I am still pretty much frizz-free, but my curls have started getting more pronounced and it is getting a little more difficult to wear it straight without using a flat-iron. I have been wearing my curls for a couple weeks now and they still look great! Just a couple of tips for those of you thinking of getting the treatment done, or already have it: make sure you are using lukewarm water when you are washing your hair since hot water expands the cuticle and makes it more prone to frizz. Try using shampoo only once or twice a week to keep the treatment lasting as long as possible. I like that I had the treatment done during summer, since the humidity is unbearable here in Austin, and it made my life a little easier. I will have to wait to see what it looks like after it rinses out, to decide if I will get another . . . stay tuned!

All right; I have to give major props to Marcia Teixeira and my newfound appreciation for the Brazilian Keratin Treatment!  After receiving the treatment a few days ago, I have finally had the freedom of washing and styling my hair at home, so I chose to wear it curly today and am loving the beachy wave that I am left with!  My hair is completely transformed:  I am using very little leave-in conditioner (Tigi Curlesque) and have almost no frizz and extremely soft and shiny locks.

I know that there is a lot of controversy about why we post these stories and test these products when we are a curl-loving website.  Having options is a huge part of being a woman. I can speak only for myself and say that I change my mind daily on things from my taste in fashion, music, men, and of course, hair.  I don't feel guilty that I chose to loosen my curls and lose the frizz if I feel better for it!  There may be some confusion on what my texture would be after the treatment, so I think it is important that everyone see this photo of me taken today with my Austin Frizz Forecast at 86% humidity, and understand why I love this treatment.  I am still a curly and will always be, but I can't stress how much better I feel about myself and my hair after doing this!

I also want to advise anyone who wants to get this done to do their homework and find a great stylist who is educated on the product they administer.  Ron Valdez was recommended to me because he is the only one in this area who educates other stylists on the treatment.  I, of course, chose him and did my homework on the company.  Also, schedule a consult with the stylist a few days before receiving the treatment.  This way you know what you are getting yourself into and have time to think about it. I will keep you updated with pictures of my hair throughout my journey! Please leave comments and feel free to ask questions—I would love to help you in your hair journey!

I was staring at my frizzy, unmanageable, dull hair for the last time.  I was finally getting my Marcia Teixeira Brazilian Keratin Treatment (BKT) done last week at Estilio Valdez Salon in Austin and I was excited, nervous, terrified.

Megan, after her Marcia Teixeira Brazilian Keratin Treatment.

Let me start by saying that I love curly hair.  I work here at NaturallyCurly.com, and believe in everything we stand for, which is embracing and loving your curls.  More importantly, loving your hair is a huge step for a woman.  We are always changing our style, cut, and color in hopes that the next step we take will lead us to bliss.  I have never felt blissful about my hair.  I struggled with it daily, even with the plethora of amazing products that I have access to here at NC.com.  I learned how to manage my 3c curls, finally had some amazing haircuts, but I was still disappointed in my hair.

So there I was, about to get the BKT done and I was beginning to embrace the fact that this may be the end of my struggle with my hair.  I was told that the treatment would strengthen my hair, loosen my curl, and eliminate most of my frizz.  This was a no-brainer for me—I was ready.

The treatment itself was only about 2 hours long and it flew by due to the wonderful stylist Ron Valdez keeping me company.  My hair was washed twice and then the treatment was applied to my hair after it had been dried.  He then flat-ironed my hair and gave me my weekend rules.  Since the treatment was applied on a Friday, I was going to have to wait until Tuesday to wash my hair.  I also couldn't tuck it behind my ears or pull it back.  This was going to be rough.

The weekend went well enough—I learned to be careful with my hair, and it actually wasn't too bad.  I went back on Tuesday morning and he washed my hair and trimmed the ends since my previous haircut was for curly hair.  He blew out my hair in a matter of minutes—something that has never happened.  Needless to say, I am thrilled with my hair.  The frizz is almost completely gone and it feels amazing.  I can't wait to style it curly and see what it looks like!

During my normal morning routine, I discovered that living in Austin will leave even my soaking-wet hair with a serious case of the frizzies!  So, it should come as no surprise that I would love an option for this wild mane that I have been sporting.  I stress the word option because I am constantly changing my hair.  I am a perpetual "phase-er", a new term (crafted by me) to define the character trait that leaves me constantly dyeing, cutting, and styling my hair in a new way.  I live in a cycle of phases, therefore:  "phase-er".  I have recently come to terms with this part of my being, because I know it will always be a part of me!

I am a NaturallyCurly.com staffer, and this morning we were trying to find someone who wanted to test out a keratin treatment to share their experience with our amazing curly community.  Short notice of the treatment (it's happening tomorrow) left me with little choice except to swallow my fears and continue down the keratin road for the good of all of the curious curlies everywhere!  My goal is to loosen my curl and loose this frizz for the summer season.

I will be shooting video today at my consultation with Ron Valdez of Estilio Valdez Salon here in Austin as well as tomorrow during the treatment.  I will make sure to keep everyone updated during this unknown journey, wish me luck!
