NC: Let’s talk a bit about the event: when, where, cost to enter, type of vendors, how often etc?

LC: The This Hair of Mine 1st Blogiversary Celebration will take place on Sunday, August 5th from 3pm to 6pm at Zanzibar, an upscale lounge in Houston, TX. This event is free and there will be swag bags for the first 20 attendees as well as a multitude of door prizes sponsored by my favorite natural hair care brands. Vendors will include custom jewelry by Dope Crochet, Astella19 and TatusWelle, shirts by B. Natural Apparel and natural hair products by Pretty by CeCe and AfroAngel Organics.

NC: What can attendees expect to see and experience at the event?

LC: I love meeting new people in this growing Houston natural hair community and this will be a great opportunity to mix and mingle with other naturals in the city, including a few of Houston’s natural hair bloggers! I often get questions about where to go for services, so I will be highlighting some of the top natural hair businesses in the Houston area, including Natural Resources Salon, Touch of Heaven Salon, Soul Sister Natural Hair Care and the new natural hair boutique Tendrils and Curls. And what’s a Blogiversary without giveaways? There will be a TON of them featuring sponsors like NaturallyCurly.com, Bee Mine, Huetiful, Jane Carter, Original Moxie, EDEN BodyWorks and many more. We’ll also have Pretty as a Picture Photography snapping candid pictures during the event and You Pose Photo Booths to capture your best poses. I really just want to show my sincere gratitude to those who have supported me during this extraordinary first year.

NC: How does your event differ from other events happening in the community?

LC: My free event will be geared towards connecting and networking amongst naturals while supporting the businesses that complement the natural hair journey. There will also be a product swap for people to exchange and swap for the chance to try new products for free. With a top notch array of sponsors and a great selection of vendors, this event is the place to mix, mingle, shop, have fun and further build relationships in the Houston natural hair community.

NC: Anything else you would like to add?

LC: Please support the natural hair movement in your city! If there isn’t a meet-up group, then start one! We have to support and encourage each other, and there’s no better way than to network and get involved. It’s a great way to motivate and be an inspiration to someone else along the same journey. There’s more than enough room in the natural hair community to have groups in every city in the US and beyond!

NC: Tell us where we can connect with your brand.

LC: You can connect with me on my blog at ThisHairOfMine.com, facebook at facebook.com/ThisHairOfMine, twitter at twitter.com/BigHairBrwnEyes and YouTube at youtube.com/LisaMsLisa.

NC: Lastly, what’s your opinion on the texture revolution? Do you see it becoming a bigger trend/movement? In Hollywood? In real life?

LC: I feel like the natural hair care revolution is long overdue! The timing couldn’t be better, as people are taking a closer look at the products they’re using and engaging in an altogether healthier lifestyle. More and more women are coming out publicly wearing their natural hair and that sends a signal to the world that it’s okay to embrace what we were born with. We’re no longer tied to the traditional standards of beauty because we are capable of creating our own!
