I bought a bottle of glycerin so I'm glad to read this informative article. My thought was to mix it with some oils that I have on hand like jojoba and olive oil as a way to put oil in my hair so it coats the hair more evenly. Seems like the oil would balance out the glycerin's drying properties. I think it's a way for me to apply oil to my fine 3b hair without making it too greasy.

I had no idea that shades of red hair color would be more affected by glycerin, bummer! I love donna marie's lock and twist and it has glycerin in it, it is the only product that has it other than CK that I currently use. I will keep this in mind after my next color, good information!

i am dismayed to see that the deep conditioner and conditoner i use contain glycerin because i am extremely happy with the results i've been getting from them. however, i live in ny, so hopefully most days i should be okay? the humidity is neither too high nor too low? or are the winters too drying to chance glycerin?
are there other ingredients that might add enough moisture to cancel out negative effects of glycerin?

Great information! Now I'm wondering what (moisturizing) ingredients I should be looking for in the dry winter weather, since it sounds like glycerin could be drying in weather lacking humidity.
