Hi, I’m Rochelle Masella (DiscoCurls”>.

I’m from Los Angeles, CA, and I’m a YouTuber/blogger/makeup artist. I’ve worn my hair natural the majority of my life but there was an 8 year period when I hid my curls under a sew-in weave. I’ve been proudly natural for 7 years!

Although I embrace the frizz, if you have fine, curly hair like myself then it all starts with your haircut! And of course a pic.

My inspiration for going natural: healthier hair

I was inspired when I saw my curls get healthy again. I originally wore my hair in a weave as a form of transitioning. I had so much damage and breakage from previous bleach, color and relaxers. It made me feel insecure about my curls. At that time, I really didn’t see a lot of women wearing their hair natural so I figured I’d rock the length and variety of a weave.

Years later, I started to miss my curls especially since the damage had grown out. I was so attached but I knew that letting go of the weave was a big part of accepting and loving myself just the way I am. I still enjoy the variety of a wig or clip ins but now I’m proud to wear my curls every day.

My wash day

Currently, my wash day consists of using the new DevaCurl No Poo and One Condition Decadence line. About once a month, I cocktail my Dr. Bronner’s Peppermint Oil Soap with my curl cleansers to really clean my scalp. I apply my styling products to wet hair and air dry.

My holy grails

That list is endless! Anything from DevaCurl or CURLS. My favorites from DevaCurl, aside from their Decadence line, are their Styling Cream and Set It Free. I love CURLS Creme Brulee, Lavish Curls Refresher and Blueberry Bliss Curl Control Jelly (which is perfect for finger coils”>.

In general, I stay away from heavy oils & butters as they end up weighing down my fine curls. I try to stay away from sulfates and parabens as well although one of my holy grail products, Samy Fat Hair Thickening Creme, contains parabens.

It all starts with a haircut…

Although I embrace the frizz, if you have fine, curly hair like myself then it all starts with your haircut! And of course a pic.

I get curly haircuts I didn’t always used to though. Meeting my hairdresser, Shai Amiel, has been the most amazing experience. I didn’t know I could get volume until I met him. My haircut is described by him as a “custom, dry, curl by curl cut”. We added bangs to create a fun, shaggy bob.
