I know this is dated, and I hope everything has worked out for you! I wish I had your confidence to wear my hair curly at a young age, but I got teased a lot for it, and only now at 22 am I starting to work it. Anyway, I'm gonna say what I wanted to say, because I'm sure other girls are coming to this column because of pressure to straighten.

If your friend continues to tell you that you should straighten, let her know why you won't: you want to be unique, and you want to take better care of your hair. It's a pain to straighten everyday. You like how you look, and that's all that matters to you. Plus, if your friend is so fond of straight hair, maybe SHE should straighten her OWN hair! :) Own your curls, because the best accessory of all is confidence.

I fell EXACTLY the same!! But what other people think doesn't matter to me and I realized that if a "friend" is saying that to me then they aren't a very good friend.

Way to Go! You obviously don't need anyone's approval. You appear to be very confident and that is what makes you beautiful! You know what you want, don't conform. This is a lesson for life. Don't be afraid to be yourself.

Firstly, the writer should not be ashamed of her curly hair. I find it unbelievable the pressure children are put under today to look and act like their peers. (Individuality is seen as something to be frowned upon instead of something to be admired.) Just remember, in paintings of angels, you don't see many with straight hair!
