Wow, please forgive me for cross referencing this to Japanese culture, but I have been watching the anime Bleach. In Bleach two of the characters have orange hair and are made fun of and beaten because of it. I wasn't sure if different hair really could be a big deal in Asian cultures until your article. I guess that I am lucky, I am italian/german/irish. I recieved curly hair from my dad's side so he thinks that it is pretty and my mom wishes that her hair was curly. All my friends like my hair and some wish that theirs was like mine.

I love you for writing this! It's hard being curly (or non-conformist in any way) when you are in an Asian country. Until now, my cousin STILL bugs me to straighten my hair and doesn't believe me when I tell her that I am happy with my kinks and crooked teeth..
