You use coconut oil? My curly hair stylist (that I found on this site) said it was pointless to use except for the smell. That it doesn’t moisturize but actually prevents moisture to being absorb?

I believe coconut oil acts as a sealer to seal in moisture (water). If your hair is wet, one can apply an oil, such as coconut or olive oil, to hold the moisture in the hair.
