The Messy Chignon

Lauren Conrad

The chignon is one of the easiest curly hair styles due to its minimal hands-in-hair time. But did you know that it also hides frizz? By pulling hair back into a chignon, you add a classy look to your arsenal, and a polished one at that!

  1. Wavy & Curly (Type 2 & 3″> Pull your hair loosely to the side of your head, or back of your neck, into a ponytail. Twist the ponytail and then wrap the twisted ponytail around the base of the ponytail, like you would a bun. Do not worry about any particular flyaways or stray pieces—these will simply add to the messy look. Secure the chignon as the base of the ponytail with bobby pins.
  2. Curly Kinky & Kinky (Type 3C & 4″> Chignons on type 3C and 4 hair are best done when the hair is stretched. This will work best when your hair is in a braid out, twist out or the like. Once the braid out is completed, pull the hair back into a ponytail and secure with a elastic band. Twist the ponytail and finish by wrapping it around the base of your ponytail. Secure with bobby pins.

This look is perfect for hiding frizz because the style itself is “messy.” Don’t worry about flyaways or misplaced pieces — these add to the overall look. You can even opt to pull out some bangs or fringe to frame your face and give it an even more causal (but put together”> look.
