5 Ways to Help Maintain Your Style

  1. Bonnet: This is by far my most treasured maintenance buddy! You spend all of that time to set a style so when you’re ready to turn in, it’s just as simple as pushing all of those curls, twists etc. up to be gently held by the bonnet. You may think that the bonnet is flattening the style but a quick fluff in the morning will make you a believer!

  1. Random Twists/Rollers: There are times when you’ve got a couple of stragglers. Maybe they didn’t set correctly or dry completely. Re-twisting those few or resetting or lightly re-braiding will have your style looking fresh with a little volume. A lazy trick I use to make my style last is re-twist or reset a few sections in the front and back or even re-do my entire head in LARGE sections. When I take them out I blend them in with the sections that are less defined.

  1. Pineapple: This method is tried and true for those serial wash n goers out there like me! Pulling the hair into a high ponytail keeps those natural curls looking fresh for days. The hair on the back of your head may flatten a little but should be hidden by the rest of your curly goodness. A spritz back there will also help to keep you looking fabulous too. Don’t forget that you can use the pineapple method for other styles too! Braid n curls, twist n curls and more! Remember to use a loose ponytail holder….you don’t want that unsightly dent that can show up with tighter scrunchies.

  1. Cap/Scarf: For the ladies trying to achieve the sleek look this season a wave cap for short styles or scarf tied down onto your edges (add a little moisture first”> will keep your edges laid! When I’m trying to get a sleek look I use a little of Design Essentials Sleek Edge Control Gel, a soft bristle brush and a silk scarf overnight. I also use a scarf when I have a braid out or twist out to make sure the hair stays in the same “down my back” direction. THEN I’ll place a bonnet on to protect my ends.

  1. Satin Pillowcase: Ahhhh, the pillowcase with many uses. It’s soft and luxurious to sleep on but it will also help to keep your tresses looking fly! I sleep on a satin pillowcase even when I have a bonnet or scarf on because I don’t want to risk the bonnet falling out along with little pieces of my hair onto a cotton pillowcase. I get mine from Bed Bath & Beyond in sets of 2!
