It's rough to embrace something people found to be nappy or unattractive. Natural hair is not the norm and people just are haters. So it's like If I love my hair then that what gives me my self-confidence.

It is nice to see so many embracing who God made them. We must realize that we've based our image and acceptance on those who have oppressed us -who used negative insults to demean us over centuries. Internalized oppression & a desire to assimilate has contributed to the rejection of our natural beauty. Be free my sisters so that our daughters can be free too. In fact our hair is very versatile and we have always been creative,so You choose what works for You and not others. Be blessed!

Dear Nikki,
I just realized that my hair type is more 4a instead of 2b. What's the best thing for my hair during transitioning. Especially while at home between visits to the hair salon.
Thanks,
Khadija

I completely agree with CurlyNikki's points about being at ease with your curls. As an adult I am embracing my hair in a way I never did as a child (although I think that comes naturally with age and experience.) If I could give my younger self a talking to, I would just tell myself to love what nature gave me and be grateful for the gift of curly locks.
