I believe that he did the best that he could with the intensity and various story lines all going on at once in the film also. I loved the film adaptation, even though I'd probably like the actual play production more if I ever have the chance to experience it. I'm glad that so many people have already seen it and that people can't wait to see it because there aren't enough films out there that cater to the Black woman, or Black girls. Hopefully this is an indication of things that may change in the future.
