Undertones from an unexpected source

For bold undertones in dark hair, crush 8-10 walnuts into 2-3 pieces each. Place crushed walnuts, including shells, in 8 oz. water and bring to boil. Let mixture cool and strain to remove all shells. Keep refrigerated and spritz on hair to deepen color!

I’d like to try this but have a few questions I hope you can answer. Will it stain skin on face/hands/neck if it comes in contact? Also, is it a buildable color? Will it wash out each time or will it build up? Can this be used as a rinse instead of a spray?
