Unfortunately, the answer is no. I can’t remember which political commentator it was, but I remember him speaking very poorly of Malia for wearing her hair in twists. If he would attack a child for wearing her natural hair, I could only imagine what he and his followers would say about their FLOTUS.

As much as I love my natural hair, and get so many more compliments about it than I ever did when I relaxed it, I don’t think Americans, no matter what race/ethnicity they are are ready for natural hair on a First Lady. Not every black woman instantly has an afro if her hair isn’t relaxed either! If a radio commentator can use the term “ghetto slut” to describe a congresswoman with a natural hairstyle in the 21st century (“slut”, by the way means a bad housekeeper, how does he know what her home looks like?)what can a First Lady expect to be called when her hair isn’t perfectly straight and “acceptable”?
