So What’s A Girl to Do?

Alright, so what’s the final verdict on how to wash your hair? Hot water is better for rinsing hair of dirt and grease, but it dries the strands. Cold water, on the other hand, adds shine, seals in moisture, and prevents frizz. The solution? CurlyNikki advises that you use both:

  1. Cleanse, condition, and detangle your hair with WARM water, not hot. You don’t want to burn your skin and your scalp.
  2. When you’re ready to rinse out the conditioner, turn the dial to COOL and run it over your hair for a final rinse.

If you’re the type of person who just can't stand using cold water in the shower, but feel that cold water is best for your hair, try using a shower cap during your warm daily showers. When it’s time to wash your hair, sit on the tub and rinse your hair beneath the faucet of cold water. Your hair can still reap the benefits without you having to shiver in the shower.

Did you notice a difference? If you’ve tried rinsing with cold water, we'd love to hear about your results!

Ive been struggling with my hair, I think ive had my shower way to hot (on the hottest setting) and my hair is too pourus. I also get spilt ends a lot now so I have my hair trimmed a lot, but my hairs long and I don't want to damege it D: when you was talking about cold water, do you mean to wash your hair with warm water and then use cold water to close the pores again? I find it so hard to wash my hair with cold water as I'll get out the shower and my hair will be greasy, I also can't get shampoo or conditioner out my hair with cold water.. what would you recommend? sammi
Great article Susonnah Gonzalez, since I read this I have tried the cold water rinse and have noticed a big difference in less frizz and more shine. Very helpful article.
I wash with warm water and rinse upside-down with cold. Boy do I notice a difference in sheen when I rinse with cold! I have very fine hair and the cold water does not flatten my hair nor create less curl.
Great article. I figured this out back in the day when my hair was shall we not say it "P". lol I came upon this trick to the trade in highschool after just stumbling into it. I love how the warm water helps clean my head I enjoy the warm but not to warm. Then blast cold water to remove the conditioner is great I love the shine I see in my hair. So in conclusion this is yes worth it all the way. You can as my minicurlydoc. haha
Thanks for the article!! I usually wash with hot water, but i always rinse out my condition with cold water. If it strips away my natural oils this article will make me more aware of the importance of adding oils to my hair to prevent damage in future :)
I definitely agree with how they tell you to wash your hair -- hot water to cleanse, cool to rinse out some conditioner. I have tried the cold water rinse a couple of times, and it really does work! What a cheap way to add some shine and bounce to my hair!
