- Stay away from Valerie unless you enjoy bad service and being ripped off. I went to her in May to have my hair relaxed and cut-she did a bad job (it was still very curly and looked like barely anything had been done to it-ask anybody around me-plus she only barely trimmed it). In fact the relaxer was done so badly that she even offered to do it over without me even asking. I declined, only because the last thing I wanted to do at the time was go back and sit in the salon for another three hours. I talked myself into believing that it looked "ok enough." After two months of putting up with someone else's (Valerie's)mistake I made another appointment with Valerie for another relaxer. Because of how badly the first job was, she was to re-relax the hair that had already been done. When I got to the salon I explained that I wanted it more or less "straight" (realizing that it wouldn't be stick straight), and she asked me "Are you sure you want it straight?" Yes, I was! I like curly hair but I was ready to have it straightened. Why would I have gone back to her to have it re-relaxed and told her to make it straight if I didn't want it straight? She went on about how she thought I should keep my hair curly. She finished the relaxer and hardly trimmed my hair yet again, even though I asked her to cut it. I paid her the full $65 like a dope and left. Anyway, what do you know, my hair is still curly, especially in the back, and I am still stuck with uneven hair. She did another bad job. Fed up, I called her the next week (today) and asked for a refund. She is totally against it, is trying to blame me and make me out to be someone who is "never satisfied." I've had my hair relaxed many times, by her and by others, and it's never been this curly afterwards, especially after TWO! relaxings. Plus she just did not cut it either time I went (only "sorta" trimmed it)so it's basically the same cut I had before I went to her. Do I have to be satisfied with bad service? I honestly believe she just totally bypassed what I wanted done (straightening) and did what she wanted done (left it curly), thinking that she could get away with it. Plus, she did not even-out my hair (she apparently didn't want to take the time to do it). I did NOT get what I paid for, and she refuses to take responsibility for her mistakes and is trying to pass the blame onto me!! Stay far away from Valerie if you value your sanity. Valerie seems very unhappy with her profession and even talked about wanting to retire soon. She has talked badly about other clients of hers in front of me MANY times. She even lied to my mom once when she made an appointment with her to have her own hair cut, cancelling the appointment and saying that she was going to be out of town (when she wasn't). I'm fed up with her trying to pass the blame for her mistakes onto me. She took advantage of my current shyness and ripped me off, and she has issues with lying and with being responsible for her actions.
