I had been looking for a curly stylist for about 20 years. 1st I found naturallycurly.com and then I read the reviews for this Personal Expressions. I made my appt. for my birthday; my personal gift to myself was finding my stylist. I entered the salon and was immediately captivated. It was cozy and very welcoming; from the atmosphere to the service. Mary Ann was absolutely a pleasure. It was great to be able to talk to a stylist who KNOWS curly hair. She is big on hair care and that is important to me. Mary Ann is extremely friendly, patient and very informative. I was also impressed with the "getting to know me" questionnaire. I had great organic coffee and some awesome candy covered pretzels, and watched a video on curly hair techniques using the Deva system while I waited. I had my hair cut and dyed that day, and she gave me what I asked for. If you have had many curly hair disaster stories, as have I, you have to give this salon a try. You will not regret it...

My experience at Personal Expressions Hair Studio was the best I have ever had! I went to Personal Expressions because they are known for curly hair and I always felt like I might be able to have curly hair but wasn't able to find a place that could make it look not "frizzy". Mary Ann educated me about the Deva products she sells (which was awesome because I never really put that much thought into what I put on my head) and showed me a cut and style technique that works for both my specific curl type and my face shape. WHAT A DIFFERENCE!!! From the moment I walked in to the moment I left, Mary Ann gave me her undivided attention. I have never been to a salon where the client actually came first! I LOVE Personal Expressions!!!

She knows her stuff, she's Deva-trained, and does just that. But I, personally, wasn't amazed. Maybe the Deva method just isn't for my head of hair...I wanted layers in my long, wavy hair, but Mary Ann told me it was "too thin" for such and I'd have to go short (but I wanted to keep my length), and so instead barely trimmed my ends. I felt I didn't even get a haircut...atelast not for what I paid. Fine/thin, long curlies beware? I have reccomended her to my curly friends with thick locks and they like her. A nice lady, listened to what i wanted, has a small but simple, clean salon. Just not for me, unfortunately.

Just had my 1st ever deva cut by Keith and I have to say, my curls looks so beautiful and well defined with NO frizzies- even 4 hours later!!! Keith was such a pleasure and was very helpful in determining what was best for MY curls!, not just a generalization but personalized info. Keith explained the deva method and the products and what would work best for me, needless to say I did leave with a few products in tow that hopefully will be the last in my quest of searching for the right hair regimen!! He was very patient with me and answered all my questions , especially regarding adding protein to my hair since I felt that the products I had previously used were causing my hair to become very dry because of protein overload. He also was able to determine my hair type which is corkscrew and my texture is fine even though I was sure I had coarse hair!! the dry cut was pretty interesting to have done but very much better and my new cut looks great instead of just straight down and pouring outwards. The rest of the staff were very friendly and couteous and kept offering coffee, beverages and snacks throughout my entire appointment, which took about 2 hours since it was my initial appointmentI and I was made to feel very welcome in such a great atmosphere:) I didn't feel like just another customer that was being rushed but a valued person who needed help in taking care of my curls. The one thing I do regret is that I forgot to ask for styling tips for my curls instead of just pulling hair back in ponytail which is my usual routine:( I definitely need more styles to work with!! I left a very happy curlie and will definitely be back as well as bring both my daughters who also have very curly and LONG hair. I am sure Keith will be able to work his curl power magic on their curly tresses too:) I also got a glimpse of the owner Maryann taking care of a new curlie girl too and she was very thorough as well as easy to talk to and full of personal experience and knowledge- I am sure her customer left just as pleased as I did:) If your looking for a knowledgable and super friendly deva cut experts, def visit Personal Expressions Salon for great and personalized service!!

Got my hair cut and styled by Keith on Thanksgiving Eve. He was awesome - asked me about my curls, the products I used, and what I wanted, and also informed me of what he knew about the Deva system. I learned so much from him. I got my first dry cut (never going back to wet cut) and I'm now hooked on the Deva system. Everyone has told me how great my hair looks (curly, controlled, and soft compared to frizzy, crunchy curls). Also, about a week after my haircut I got a thank you card from Maryann. I couldn't have asked for a better experience - knowledgeable stylists, a great system for my hair, and a friendly, appreciative staff. I will definitely be back!

I have never met a stylist who cared so much about her clients. From the moment I walked in, I knew Mary Anne and I were going to have a great relationship. Not only does she listen to you and offer recommendations, she educates you and shows you how to control your naturally curly hair. I have never had any other stylist listen about my concerns and teach me what to do with my hair. This is the first time in my life that I left a salon feeling hopeful. I can't wait to go back and see Mary Anne. If you have naturally curly hair and live in the South Jersey area or in the nearby area, I highly recommend her. I can tell she is a miracle worker when it comes to curly hair types. I am so grateful I found her.

I just got back from my first hair appointment with Keith! Keith is full of personality, fun, a little bit of sass, and a lot of knowledge. He really knows his curls! As soon as I walked in, he sat me down at his station and told me everything about curly hair and the Deva system. He is so informative and answered every question I had. Unfortunately, I am one of those fools who willingly fronted $500 ($600 if you include tip) to chemically destroy my hair with the Japanese straightener, and now I am living with the damage. It's been about ten months since I received this process, and for the last seven months I have been living with scraggly, unhealthy, and thirsty hair. Before the process, I had very curly hair. I had bouncy curls and thick coils. I hated it, but I guess it took me a relentlessly damaging process to make me miss my old hair. I was fed up with the mess I was left with. (I can't even count on two hands how many people have told me that my hair looks like dreadlocks.) No one I have ever gone to before knows how to work with curls, and since I completely wrecked my curls, I might as well start somewhere. I decided to go to Personal Expressions, and I am ecstatic that I have found someone who knew how to salvage my hair. I walked into the salon with a skanky rat’s nest and walked out with actual curls. I have never gone to a salon where I felt attached to a stylist, and it is so easy to connect with Keith. I think I have found ‘my’ salon.

I used to live in Manhattan and go to the Deva Salon in Soho so when I moved to South Jersey I was so happy to find Mary Ann! She is fully Deva trained and will not cut my curls too short when I am growing my hair. She and her assistant Keith and warm and personable. I get my hair colored with them too and have always been happy with their natural tones. I would recommend this salon highly!

I have been going to Mary Ann for about two years and LOVE my hair. I had been going to another Deva stylist in the same area who just didn't seem to connect with how I wanted my hair. I saw Deva products in the window of Personal Expressions and decided to give it a try. Mary Ann listened to what I said and my hair looks and feels great! I am going to try color at my next appointment and am sure I won't be disappointed. Also, Keith is excellent with the products and setting my hair. He knows what he's talking about! Thanks guys!

I hated my hair! I was never loyal to a salon because no matter how great I looked when I left, and with recommended product in hand, the next washing (my hair in my own hands) would bring me back to the same nonsense - crazy hair that would defy my attempts to get it under control. Mary Ann was recommended to me by friends who said, 'go to her; she understands curly hair; she will help you'. I have curly bottom, wavy middle and fluffy top hair - yes inconsistent. Mary Ann gave me an education on the quality of my hair. She showed me how to "test" my hair for moisture and strength and showed me how to care for my hair with proper washing and product - also gave a great cut. She showed me how to get really great curls or waves with out the "fluff". I've been going to Mary Ann for a year and a half now. I love my hair. I love Mary Ann!

OMG! I can't say enough wonderful things about the experience I had at Personal Expressions today. MaryAnn was so warm and caring that I immediately felt at ease in the salon. Her assistant Keith was also very friendly. The best part is that finally, someone took the time to educate me on the Deva Curl methods. I left the salon loving my hair and feeling like I could actually replicate the process on my own! I am definitely going back!

I am THRILLED with my new hair!!!! Two weeks ago I had my first Deva cut with the salon owner Mary Ann at Personal Expressions (she is Deva trained)! A quaint salon in Historic Haddonfield NJ. My hair never looked or felt so good! She took her time doing my cut and explaining how to style, and use curl friendly hair products (she explained which ingredients are bad and good for your curly hair). She carries the Deva line, but never, ever, pushed the products. Keith who also works at the salon was equally gifted with his knowledge and talents of curly hair! They are a great team. They both go out of their way to make you feel comfortable and encourage communication! Mary Ann is very into Organics. She told me about a hair color line that is ammonia free. I have been dying my hair over 20 years now, and hopefully will be for at least another 40 years. All that ammonia cannot be good. Well today I returned for my Organic hair color and highlights. LOVE, LOVE ,LOVE IT! The COLOR & THE CUT! She explained my hair will become curlier and shinier with the organic line. Already I see a shine and bounce I hadn't had in years! Personal Expressions specializes in curly hair and thinning hair! If you are looking for a great, curly cut and, or color, You need to try this salon. You will not be sorry! PROMISE!!

She was awesome! I have 3c/4a hair and I was SO scared to go to any stylist besides the "true" DevaChan salon for my first deva cut. I'm glad I did! The price is great, the salon is small and comfortable, very relaxed. She did an amazing job. She listened to my concerns, played with my hair, and gave me a really nice consultation. She explained answers to my questions so thoroughly. She didn't pressure me to buy the deva products, but I ended up buying them anyway because my hair looked SO good after she used them. My hair has dimension and looks and FEELS great. I can't wait to go back. :)

I, like most curlies, have been fighting my hair for years. I had finally accepted my hair, but kept going to a salon where they cut my hair wet - and cut it so it looked good when they blew it out straight. Getting my hair cut dry was a revelation! Mary Anne sat and talked to me, and although I was already doing most of the CG stuff, she walked me through the entire process. She listened to everything I said, and made recommendations based on that. She was not a pushy salesperson, which was really a huge relief. The salon is such a warm inviting place, and her junior stylist, Keith Daone, seems to be following in Mary Anne's footsteps. I am so glad I took the plunge and walked in to her salon!

I recently brought my curly daughter who is only 11yo to MaryAnn on the advice of all of the reviews and discussion board talk here on naturallycurly.com. She is wonderful and so is her assistant, Keith. They really took time with both me and my daughter explaining how curly hair works, the importance of conditioning, and all the Deva tips of the trade. MaryAnn dry cut her hair, then they no-poo'd, conditioned & put in anGell, dried it for a very short time under the hood and trimmed again. My daughter's hair is quite long (halfway down her back) and 3b/c (you can see her in my profile) - not the easiest hair to de-tangle and get clean/conditioned. MaryAnn and Keith each took half of her head and de-tangled it methodically, and gently using only their fingers to get all the knots out. To say I was impressed and envious of that level of attention is an understatement! They were both just great with my daughter, and showed her which products to use (Deva line) and how to use them on her hair. When all was said and done my daughter's curls were more beautiful than I have seen them in a long time - each curl was defined and frizz-free. We bought the large no-poo and one condition and the prices were comparable to curlmart and aveyou plus no shipping since we bought while we were there. I highly recommend this salon to anyone with curly hair!

For as long as I can remember, I have done everything I could to get rid of my curly hair. Years worth of straightening, blow drying, and spending hours in front of the mirror. Then the light bulb went off and I realized I had a head of hair that would make my life easier and really complemented my face. But, I didn't know how to work with it. Thus comes Mary Ann and Personal Expressions. Ladies, if you need to understand curly hair, Mary Ann is the guru! She takes her time, asks lots of questions, LISTENS to you and them begins to help you understand your hair and how to care for it. She is not "scissor happy"! She cuts your hair dry! She does sell the Deva products but is not a pushy sales person. I can't wait to go back and get my next cut. Mary Ann is a great educator with the patience of a saint. And the Salon has a calm, relaxed and peaceful atmosphere. On a scale of 1 to 10, she is a 10.

She definitely knows her stuff about curly hair, she'll walk you through the whole CG method if you're a newbie. She carries and uses the Deva line, as well as gives the Deva cut.
