Thank you, thank you, thank you for such a great experience! I haven’t felt this good about my hair in years. I’ve always been the type of girl who quivered when a stylist would talk about “cutting” opposed to just “trimming”…I loved my long hair. This was true for 33 years until I recently got a Deva cut from Marty Franco! My hair has life again! It’s bouncy, curly, and sexy. I can’t even strut into a place without someone complimenting my hairdo...and I love every minute of it! No more drab buns or ponytails for me. Marty (and this new haircut of mine) has brought my sassy back! -- TD :)

I started going to Marty a couple of years ago and have loved every cut up until the last one. Last Nov. Marty cut my hair and I am still stewing about it. Part of the problem was my fault (I think), it seems that what Marty was saying and what I was hearing were 2 different things. I thought that I was getting the great cut that I always got from Marty; but, he decided to get creative. When he got out the clippers to shave my neck I knew I was in trouble. He said he was going to "stack" the back, which to me meant that he was going to layer it up but still leave some length. What I got was cut to the hair line then layered up in the back with the sides left long. This might not have been too bad; but, it seems Marty was having a bad hair day (not his, mine)!! When I washed it for the first time it was very uneven, I had to come to a stylist in NC where I live to get it straightened out. I like to wear my hair up in the summer; but, it is not long enough in the back to keep it up yet. I did give Marty a 3 this time because he USUALLY gives a really great cut; but, not this time. Just be careful that both of you are on the same page before he starts cutting.

I can't say enough about Stephanie @ Mane Tamer. The salon is casual, comfortable and welcoming. Before Stephanie and Mane Tamer, I rarely walked out of a salon pleased with my hair. It's something I learned to accept as a curly girl. Stephanie is a curly girl and understands curly hair. She is patient, skilled and always pleasant. I enjoy my time with Stephanie and rarely notice the time when I'm there. Her cuts are precise, whether Deva or standard cut. She has taught how to treat my curls and the difference is visible. As a colorist, Stephanie is amazing. My color is consistently gorgeous. I frequently get compliments and am always sure to give Stephanie the credit. My hair is so easy and pretty now thanks to Stephanie. I finally love my curls! I only wish I had discovered Stephanie @ Mane Tamer sooner. Judy

Being a "Curly girl" has not been easy...I have went to extremes to tame "the beast." My very first Deva cut was in a New York Salon and It was great. However the salon was very pricey and it was difficult to keep up with the trips and with my budget. I started going to The Mane Tamer a few months ago and I believe it is better than the salon I used to go to. Not only are the prices more friendly, but so is the entire staff. It's a great atmosphere and you are treated there like family. I love the Mane Tamer and anyone would be crazy not to go there! I love my hair and yes, I do get those random stops in the grocery store from strangers complimenting me on my do.

Stephanie is knowledgeable about DEVA methods and is a good colorist. I stopped going there because (1) they raised their prices as of March 2011. (2) I don't find the staff to be highly professional - Stephanie alone cancelled 3 out of the 5 appointments with me over the last 15 months. One time she was sick, and I'm not sure about the other two instances. I also did not like how I would be scheduled at 5pm and I would likely get a call asking if I could come earlier. I work long hours and it was hard enough to schedule enough time for a DEVA (1.5 hours usually). I think she gives greats cuts most of the time. I found (since I like shorter bob styles) that she was always afraid to cut my hair because she prefers longer hair. I always had to ask her to take more off. While she has a lot of knowledge, it comes across snarky at times. One plus is I never felt compelled or pressured to buy the DEVA products there - I always go to ULTA because of their coupons and pricing. I gave Stephanie a rating of 3 and would not go back there. If you have long hair and don't need frequent trims, then she may be a good fit for you.

I tried this salon on Friday based on past reviews and I'm glad I did. Marty is great -- he explained everything to me as we went along and gave me a ton of tips. My hair was cut too recently (4-5 weeks prior) so there were layers that were too short to do much to, but he still shaped it to get the bulk off the bottom and the hair away from my face. He also got the back to curl, which I've never been able to do! I will definitely be back in 4 months for cut #2 and have been passing his business card out to all my curly-headed friends. Also, the shampoo / scalp massage I got from the salon is the best I had in years!

I was struggling to bring out my curl and when I heard about Deva cuts and saw others' results, I went looking and found Marty on devaconcepts and saw his reviews here. The buzz is true, he is really expert at cutting curly hair. I have a lot of hair and he went through it curl by curl, dry, cutting it to the length I wanted but shaped in a way that would fit with my face, then he had it washed and showed me the best way to put in the leave-in products, then went over it again. I was very happy with the result and I will be going back to him for "scheduled maintenance".

I found Stephanie by looking at this website and had heard glowing recommendations for her in the community. I had been researching Deva cuts for about a year, but never had the courage to get one. I'm extremely hairdresser-phobic! From the beginning of the haircut until the end, I felt extremely comfortable. She taught me new ways to manage my curly hair, and really seemed to have a lot of knowledge. She's a curly girl herself, and I think that made a lot of difference, because she has been styling her own curly hair all her life and has that "insider knowledge"... I feel so relieved knowing that after over 30 years of searching, I finally have a stylist who understands and knows how to cut/style my curly hair. I no longer feel that I have to be nervous about how a haircut will "come out"...I know that when I go to her, it will look perfect in the end!

Most of the time when I went to a salon I looked good when I left but when it came time to duplicate the look at home I was at a loss. I hated paying so much for a cut and then looking like I needed another the next day. Stephanie gave me a great cut and then did something amazing, she taught me how to care for it! This is so important because the average person does not go to the salon everyday. The entire experience was wonderful. She made me feel very at ease (I'm normally nervous getting my hair cut) and by the time I left I felt like one of her best friends. People still ask me if I just got back from the salon!
