- I went to Aimee twice for color. She really knows how to do hand painted highlights on curly hair in a way in which they look natural. She painted the highlights in my hair so that I could go 4 months without having to have them redone. She painted individual curls and my hair really looked amazing. The color has never been so good! She really has an eye for color and I would highly recommend her services.

- I just got a color and cut at Hair Rules in Manhattan. First of all it is a beautiful salon. The people are super friendly. Katiria was my colorist and she was on time and diligently colored my hair. Her assistant Denzel was quite friendly. Dickey the owner cut my hair. I have 3c/4a hair that is BSL. He gave me a nice simple cut. My hair has swing and looks like relaxed hair but look mom no chemicals! I would highly recommend this salon for kinky curly wavy hair..

- Dickey is clearly great with some curly hair but not an expert at all on "4a" or "4b" hair, or hair that is course/coily but not the pretty curl pattern that everyone wants. I want to work with that texture and not force it into curls or spirals, but he's not good with that and in my experience he was cutting hair not because it's unhealthy or had split ends, but because it wasn't the "right" texture, curly, etc, which my hair is never going to be, even when I texturize.

- I Love, Love, Love Hair Rules! I have traveled all over to try different salons that specialize in curly hair, even some that don't. I have been to NY City for both Devachan and Ouidad as well as Hair Rules. Dickey and Hair Rules are by far my favorite yet. Dickey cut my hair dry and straight, having never seen my curls (my hair was straight when I arrived to the salon). He did a wonderful cut (removing the different lengths that Ouidad cut into my hair). He styled my hair and I was very impressed, but still skeptical. For me the ultimate test came when I styled my own hair with his products. When I was not only able to duplicate the style Dickey had done, I even sat under a hair dryer and needed a blow dryer to give my hair volume (not usually needed for my hair). On top of all of that I was able to wear my curls for 3 days without having to rewet it, I have always had to re-wet my hair the next day with every other product I have tried. And I have tried them all! ! ! Dickey and his staff are wonderful, and well worth the price and flight from Texas to NY City for me to see him regularly! ! !

- Not pleased at all. My hair cut is lop-sided, uneven, and just doesn't look right. I used to have so much confidence from my hair, which was long. Now I can't wait for it all to grow back. No, I'm not complaining about getting my hair cut, but rather I am complaining about getting a bad cut. Don't they know that you're supposed to cut curly hair while it's dry and in it's natural curly state and NOT straight, because curly hair ALWAYS looks different when its dried, it shrinks up and "gets cozy" with its self. I would not recommend them for a cut, but the staff was nice, and they gave good tips on haircare products. Ehhh...

- I really loved the Hair Rules salon. The decor is modern but still inviting and everyone is professional and polite. I was really nervous when I went because I was getting a LOT of my hair cut during my transition to natural also, because celebrity stylist DICKEY was doing it. In the end the products were divine, my hair was fab and Dickey was really friendly and totally down to earth. The only thing that would keep me from going back is the price. I think that hair cut ran me like $180. It was a special occasion in my mind because it was a big chop so I sucked it up but I wouldn't go more than once a year. I'd just buy the products and use them at home unless you live in New York and can afford to spend that much on your hair.

- Hair Rules Salon IS all it is being hyped up to be. Dickey IS an expert on curly hair for sure so you can assume all hair types. His products ARE great, may be the best. The staff are just as knowledgeable and wonderful. It was so worth every penny. Dickey teaches you about your hair. He asks questions and you leave with all the answers you need to make your hair look great yourself. That is the true test of a Hair Care professional. They want you to look your best everyday, not just when they style it. Shout out to Dailey! I'm a 4A/B, but 1-4 will love this salon!
