I have been going to Chris for over a year now and he does a phenomenal job cutting and styling my curly hair (I am a 3A according to this website). I have tried other stylists in Columbia and they seem to have no idea how to handle my hair - every time I have left with a puffy fuzzball on top of my head instead of well-defined, shiny, bouncy curls. I won't let anyone else cut my hair now and have even followed Chris from Flo Hair Studio (which recently closed) to his new location as an independent stylist in Irmo (just off the Lake Murray Blvd. exit). I live and work downtown but Chris is worth the drive! In addition to being great with curly hair he is friendly and laid back.

Very bad experience. Bad haircut and rude staff! Scheduled another appointment in an effort to make sure I wasn't imagining everything and was stood up. When I asked about it the staff was rude. No one ever attempted to contact me to discuss. Don't waste your time.

I had a pretty good experience at this salon. I hadn't had a good cut in, well, my whole life. So, when Chris took the extra time to analyze my curls before he started cutting, I breathed out a sigh of relief. He did a dry cut before sending me to get my hair washed, and then did some touch-up snips after he had styled and diffused my hair. I remember thinking that it was a little shorter than I had wanted, but maybe it's just because my curls were finally doing what they were supposed to be doing. The best thing Chris did for me that day was introduce me to Davines styling products! These have really changed my life and my morning routine. I love the purple anti-frizz serum with GSE and the red bottle defining styling gel. I have since ordered a year supply from Amazon. He also taught me that I need to apply those products while my hair is essentially sopping wet instead of towel dried. I now keep my styling products in my shower and when I step out, my hair is clean and styled! Next time I go back, I will ask him to give me a little more shape to my style for a more mature and polished look. I have a feeling he won't have a problem accommodating. This is as good as it gets in the Columbia area, folks!

I have been a loyal client for over eight years. In my opinion, he is the best Master Stylist in Columbia. Not only is he professional, but extremely talented with hair and color. He is a natural with curly hair. My hair always looks amazing when I leave the studio, and it's manageable and easy to style for weeks after the cut. I would strongly recommend his services especially if you have wavy or curly hair. I can't help but to comment on one of the reviews below. This forum is about a stylist's ability to cut hair, not a place to slander a stylist because he or she was 15 minutes late. It seems to me that you just want to cause damage to his reputation. That's very sad that you have so much time on your hands to be that angry and destructive. I feel sorry for you and your hair!!!

Chris is amazing! I have never walked out of a salon and absolutely LOVED my hair until I went to Chris. He took the time to explain how I should be caring for my hair and what will work best. My hair never looked so great. Before seeing Chris I would let anyone cut my hair because it always looked the same and no one knew what to do with it. An expensive cut was no different than letting my husband cut my hair. Now I will never let anyone other than Chris touch my hair. I will be recommending Chris to everyone. Since my hair cut last night I have received so many compliments. Everyone is amazed how great my hair looks. Thank you Chris!

This was my first time getting a hair cut from someone that actually knew how to cut curly hair. Chris is amazing and I will be recommending him to everyone I know. He took the time to explain how I should style and care for my hair. I never walked of a salon and LOVED my hair until today. My hair looks the best it ever has. If you have curly hair you need to go see Chris you will not be disappointed.

Columbia!!! I went to Flo Hair Studio yesterday (6/23) and had the best time in a salon EVER. I went for the consultation last week and knew when I walked in it would be fabulous. Chris did my color and I can't say anything bad about it. He's great (and handsome ladies). Lauren did my twist out and I tell you I've tried it on my own and never had such great results. She's a sweety. And the second day look is even better cause it's even bigger. Cody, the Receptionist, was a laugh riot and coupled with Lauren the jokes kept coming. He's a mad cutey too!! The music was on point. I just loved everything about my experience. If you want to treat yourself to an upscale, hip salon, I encourage all to check out Flo Hair Studio!!

2 weeks ago I finally made my way into the Flo Hair Studio for an appointment with salon owner Chris McPherson. I was looking for a salon that didn't necessarily cater to natural hair, but a stylist that was well-versed in how to style curly hair. After a consultation which was originally intended to find out more information on the DevanChan Curly Girl Cut, we decided that trimming my hair the traditional dry/straight way was a better option for me. Since I don't wear my hair curly 100% of the time McPherson didn't recommend getting the cut done on my hair at this time. Flo Hair Studio is a minimalist meets modern salon in the heart of Columbia's downtown corridor. They have a more natural approach opting to bypass chemical services like relaxers, perms and brazilian blowouts. The only chemicals they use are for color so if you're looking for anything else you want to look elsewhere. However, if you're on the hunt for a stylist that will take the time to learn your hair texture and treat your strands to his delicate touch, McPherson is the person for you! It's always hectic trying to find a new stylist... especially for me because I was obsessed with Kim Allison @ Apricot Lounge in Scottsdale (I'll be heading back to her chair once I move lol), but McPherson was awesome to work with. He takes his time going through your hair and has a gentle touch. Many women shy away from salon trims because stylists can be scissor happy, but McPherson analyzed my ends with a fine tooth comb and took off 6 months of splits and knots. If you're a woman with curly hair I would especially recommend him because he understands curls, but don't fret - - he can work his magic on any head of hair. Feel free to give his salon a call and set up a consultation. Speak with him about what results you're looking to get and see if he's a good fit for you!

Chris did a great job on my kinky-some time nappy 4a hair. My hair still had perm left on the ends, Chris gave a cut that left my hair with some length. The salon staff was great. I am going back to get my color. If you are in the area give Chirs a call

I have hair that can't decide what it wants to do,for many years I have just dealt with many bad hair days. And then I found Chris! I can style my hair without worry, knowing it looks great. I also love to dye my hair and trust only Chris with my color. Since my last cut and color a week ago, everywhere I have been I have received so many compliments on my hair. And to think before I discovered FLO I always had my hair in a ponytail.

I was very impressed with Chris and his knowledge of curly hair. My hair is very kinky, not just curly and he was not intimidated at all. The Deva products that he recommended work great with my hair. I look forward to seeing him again for the cut when my hair grows a little more. (Floria Wolfe)

I'm so thankful for sparrow's review. I had the best haircut of my life today. I wasn't very familiar with Deva training before, but it really makes a difference. He studied my hair carefully and cut with precision to create an amazing style that works with my hair's natural character. I'll be able to show my curls with confidence. I finally have a great shape. I'll be going back again and recommending him to other curlies that I know.

Chris is a wonderfully attentive and skilled stylist. He's attended four Deva training seminars, and says he loves cutting curly hair. His salon is 100% sulfate free and they carry Deva and Ouidad as well as other lines. Best haircut I've ever had! I'm recommending him to all my curly family and friends (and the straight-haired ones too)!
