Lora Johnson is the best hair stylist that I have ever come across. No joke. I have never felt so comfortable while sitting in the chair, waiting to get my hair cut & styled--AND enjoyed it, to boot!
I was very nervous when walking into the salon since I did not know what to expect. Once I saw Lora and her friendly, cheery disposition, though, I knew I was in good hands and my worries disappeared.
I really like how she measured the width and length of my face to determine what hairstyles suit my face shape. No other stylist has ever done that for me before, so I was incredibly pleased. After all, I learned something new about myself (I did not know that my face shape is a perfect oval; I always thought it was a diamond!).
Not only that, but she is a great listener! I had about a million questions to ask her, and she was very patient with me (which I am very grateful for!!), listening carefully, and answering ALL of them in a way so that I can fully understand it.
Before she proceeded to cut my hair, she explained everything that she was planning to do for my hair. That just made me even happier because, again, no one has ever done that for me before. I was able to get a better understanding of what her vision was for me at that moment, and she made certain that we were both on the same wavelength before she actually cut it.
The end result? An incredibly happy client that was complimented even by random strangers on the streets!
I am so glad that I came across her reviews on this site, and other blogs as well. Thank you to all of you who posted reviews on her! I am so happy to have met her! It has done wonders for my self confidence! :)
Thank you!!

It saddens me to write this review, but out of respect for other curlies, I feel that I have to share my latest (and LAST) experience with Lora Johnson, currently at Ricciolo Salon in LaVerne. Lora has been cutting my hair for about 4 years now, and has always been very kind and patient. She brought my hair back from a series of butchered cuts, but today, she was the butcher.
I have lots of fine 2b/3a hair, and until yesterday, it was very long. The last cut Lora gave me had a lot of slithering, and though I loved it, I was ready for a look that was a little less rock and roll. As soon as I sat down, Lora told me that she was sick of my hair, that I'd had the same cut for too long, my hair was boring, and what she really wanted to do was give me a chin length wedge. I should have left right then and there, but because I'd had several successful cuts from Lora, I ignored my instincts and stayed. BIG mistake.
The first thing I asked for was that the back be cut into more of a V shape. It was pretty straight in the back, and this made the hair angle out at the ends, giving that A-shape, or inverted triangle that curlies and wavies hate. She was reluctant, but did what I asked. But then she seemed to think that because of that V, the rest of my hair needed to be severely layered to match, that extreme layering was the "only option that made sense, structurally." Though I had asked for her to cut no more than one-inch of length, my hair is now 4-6 inches shorter. The bangs are more like a short layer that goes almost all the way around to the back of my head. I asked for long layers, not a long shag. I told her that I hated it, that I looked like a dude. (Seriously, I look like Geddy Lee circa 1978.) She kept repeating that a V in the back was a radical, extreme statement, and that she simply cut the rest to match. She told me I would get lots of compliments, and that other people would like my "unusual" (aka ugly) cut. I told her that I don't care what anyone else thinks, that this is MY HAIR. Lora did the exact opposite of what I asked. At one point I asked her, "What do you think you're doing?" and she ignored me. I left very, very unhappy, and will never go back.
Ladies, don't EVER let a stylist tell you what looks good on you. If YOU don't think you look good, then you don't. I really regret not walking out when Lora started telling me I needed a radical change. I LIKE my hair long and layered, and if that's "boring" to some, then too bad. It's MY hair. Also, it's not a good idea to whine about how you just don't have the clientele that you would like. Maybe this is WHY Lora doesn't have enough clients. It's not cool, and it's certainly unprofessional, for a stylist to tell a client that they are bored with their hairstyle. It's one thing if the client asks for a change, or for suggestions, but I did not.
Now I'm looking at 4-6 months with my hair in a bun, and probably a year to get my hair back to where it was before I went to Lora Johnson, and I have to find a new stylist.
I've been going to Lora Johnson for about three years now, and would follow her to ANY salon, as she saved my hair from a series of bad haircuts. She cuts my hair dry and really LISTENS. She's not one of those stylists that asks what you want, then attacks your head with a flurry of flying scissors, but rather explains each and every step. Her curly cuts are true transformations, and she also does great, natural highlights and color. She even lets me bring my own products, and respects that I don't heat style my hair. I highly recommend Lora for anyone with curly, wavy hair or anyone else that wants a great cut or color.
Hello everyone. I recently downloaded a new updated picture of my long curly hair. Lora Johnson (my wonderful hairstylist)used Enjoy style lotion and curling creme and Equage curl enhancer. She made a cocktail with these products and it was fabulous!
