  I'm new to the area, but when I saw the overwhelming number of positive review for Mark, I decided to give him a try. Three days into this new haircut, I'm very pleased with the results. I really appreciated his detailed styling instructions, and list of products he used on my hair. He wasn't overly pushy with the salon's products, another plus. The price for the haircut was very reasonable, and he obviously knew what he was doing with my hair. I'll definitely be going back to Mark.

  After struggling for years with my daughters curls I hopped on the internet to hopefully find someone who really new how to cut naturally curly hair. We found Marc at On the Avenue in Dallas. My daughter and I were so excited in anticipation of the appointment with someone who may be able to solve some of the struggles she was facing. Marc was wonderful! He made my 13 y/o daughter feel comfortable enough to actually ask questions regarding the care of her curls. Marc didn't just start cutting either, he pulled up a stool and studied my daughters hair, evaluated the different types of curls she has and then asked her many questions. When the cutting started he was methodic and careful, making sure to cut in the correct place on the curl. At the end of the appointment Marc actually wrote down care instructions for my daughter that she has carefully placed on her mirror at home. My daughter looked great yesterday, and thanks to Marc's instructions, she looks great today! Thank you Marc!

  I have never been so disappointed in my entire life. I feel like a bad jheri curl experience. I should have listened to my friend who told me not to cut it. I am used to getting my hair done in DC by stylists who know African-American hair. That was NOT what I found. He used the wrong products, didn't cut it according to any style and now I'm stuck! Braids - weave - something - here I come.

  First of all, let me tell you that the salon itself is adorable. It is a small old house, but it has been remodeled and organized with such taste that you immediately feel at home. They offer you something to drink and the staff is super friendly. Then this curly headed man with adorable blondish ringlets and a great attitude comes to get you and takes you back to a little room. My bf was with me and Marc just took him along too. Then he listened to all the crap I had to say about my hair, and looked at my unrealistic pictures of what I wanted. I told him that I loved Afros and big big hair. I am a type 3a by the way. Then he gave me a shampoo, conditioned my hair (even though I cowash, I really didn't care) and started cutting my hair. I was sooooooo into the conversation with him about a million things, that I didn't even notice when he was done and started putting re:coil and other products in my hair. This is the moment when I started paying lots of attention cuz I really wanted to see how he would style my hair. He would explain to me what he was doing and why every step of the process. We just kept talking and then I noticed that he put so much more product than I ever would, and my skepticism began. I thought "there is no way this is gonna come out right" since he was not only putting tons of product ( the usual re:coil, gel, mousse) and he was just combing my hair with his fingers and even a comb and really working the product through, and I am just thinking, man he broke off all the curls cuz my hair can never withstand a lot of handling or I end up with frizzy stringy hair. He also styled my bangs and diffused my hair, and we were done. When I looked in the mirror, my hair looked great! I could not believe it. IT looked shiny, healthy, and DEFINED! The cut looked great too, even though it wasn't like the pics, but I understand that it was impossible for him to give me something like that if my hair is so damn short. Anyway, I am growing my hair, but the next cut will always be with Mark. He is the S(&^t. He is pretty cool too, not what you will expect at all. You will see, give him a try!

  I have been to a stylist before. The salon is nice and I was offered something to drink on arrival. There was a short wait, but it was worth it. Mark told me all about what I can do to get nice curly hair at home. He told me what he was doing and what product he was using. My hair looks wonderful and I can use the tips he gave me at home to keep it looking nice. I'm so glad I found out about him from this site.

  Count this as another recommendation to see Mark if you have curly hair! For as long as I can remember getting my hair cut I have always gone to see stylists who did not get my curly hair. A lot of them recommended flat irons and straightening treatments, or would just blow dry my hair straight to avoid dealing with my curls. They cut my hair the same way ... for straight hair. Mark gets curly hair, and he walked me through how he would cut my hair, what he used, and how he styled it. It was really laid back and comfortable, and when I left I had a cut that looked good after he styled it ... and more importantly looked good after I styled it! I love my new do, and for the first time in years can wear my hair down with out having zero volume at the roots. Do not question it. Just go! He is affordable, he listens, and he gets it. Really.

  I finally made the decision to become a real adult and search for a stylist that was known for curly hair capabilities. In the past, I could always get away with cheap hair cuts. But I needed a good style since it had been so long. A friend of mine told me about this website, another curly, and so I searched for someone close to my zip. Time after time, Mark's name kept reappearing. I could not be more pleased with Mark!! The entire visit was easy, relaxed, no pressure, some good tips that I had never heard of (shocking!) and in the end....didn't have to empty out my pockets to pay for such a good looking cut.   After reading all of the positive reviews here about Mark at On the Avenue I decided to give him a call and make an appointment. I drove 3 hours to Dallas just to see him and it was MORE than worth it! For the first time in my life I have an awesome hair cut! After posting my picture of my new 'do on facebook I got comments from people who never respond to anything I write! ha! Everyone loves it, and best of it it feels so great! Mark is so laid back and really makes you feel at ease. He took time to talk to me about my hair before hand and explained everything he was going to do before he did it. He explained what I was doing wrong and what I could do at home to improve my curls. He's very down to earth and a joy to work with! I really had a great experience-as Mark was cutting my hair he told me so many things that I didn't know I could do to take care of my hair.   I went to Mark the end of last year based reviews on here. I have to say that in my 31 years of curly hair battle I loved my hair cut for the first time!! I went back right before I moved to New Jersey. I went to another place in D.C. while I was visiting and while it was a decent haircut it didnt have the natural wow factor Mark somehow got out of my curls. I am now crossing my fingers that he has an opening for me while I'm visiting next week. I highly recommend him!!!!

  Let me just begin by saying that I have had some pretty bad haircuts in my day, so Im always very nervous about having someone cut my curly hair, but I read some reviews and decided to bite the bullet and see what the hype was all about. I am so glad I did. Mark is amazing. He made me feel so at ease ( i was super nervous) and explained everything he did. He got rid of all my dead ends, gave it shape, and made it look pretty again. ( i had a lot of straight heat damaged ends that made my curls horrible, and he fixed it). Its shorter than I am use to, but at least its healthy now, and when it grows out, its going to be beautiful. If you have curly hair, make an appt. immediately... you will not regret it. Another thing i enjoyed is that he doesnt push products on you, and tells you cheaper alternatives that you can get to achieve the same results. I love him. Hes got a client for life!

  My other half has the prettiest blond curls (just like Mark), but if he gets a bad hair cut, we deal with what he calls "mushroom head", looking like a Gumba off of Mario Bros. He's been going to Mark for hair cuts for about 4-5 years now, after his last stylist left there, and his hair has never looked better! I'm going to start going to him, myself (even though I'm not a curlhead like my other half). He is very reasonably priced and DOESN'T push product, which I LOVE! Mark rocks!

  I found Mark through a friend who visited another stylist at On the Avenue. She told me that was a guy that was cutting curly hair every time she went in to her stylist. I have normal/fine hair, but a combo of s-shaped waves and corkscrews. After years of stylists not having a clue what to do with my hair (years of choosing between stacked bobs or "Christmas tree head") it's a relief to find someone in DFW who knows curly hair and doesn't pressure you into wearing it straight. When I sat down, he explained why it wasn't behaving, and how we were going to fix it. When he asked about lengthhpreferences, etc, I told him "whatever you think is best" - I'm glad that I did. My hair has never looked this good since I've lived in Dallas. He didn't pressure me to buy product ("mousse is mousse, even it's $5.99) and that's very refreshing. Good experience, fantastic haircut.

  I moved to Dallas over a year ago,leaving a wonderful stylist behing me. Parting with her was so difficult becuase I knew that finding a replacement that knew what they were doing, even in a large city, would be challenging. After three horrible hair cuts from three different stylists, I turned to the internet and found Mark. He had so many great reviews that I had to give it a shot. First of all, I liked the feel of the salon. It has a bohemian/easy feel, not at all snooty. The in-hourse curly Guru, Mark, is great! He gets it because he has curly hair, himself, and knows what curly hair needs. Most people do not comment on the color, cuts or changes that I normally make to my hair, but I got so many after my first visit to Mark. Give him a shot! He's not pricy and you will love the results!

  Being the Queen of the Chi and having had my unruly hair straight for a year I happened into the salon by accident. Watching Mark work with curly hair- I decided to give it another go. Mind you I have spent hundreds of dollars on products to produce pretty curls. On a whim I booked a shampoo blow dry as I was getting on a plane to the beach for a photoshoot there. It was a big risk but it paid off- My hair rocked for four straight days in humidty and getting wet. My pics went on facebook and I got comments on how gorgeous my hair was. I am now hooked and will continue to run in for my curly look. Mark is amazing!

  Mark is so down-to-earth and fun to talk to, you forget that you made an "appointment" to get your hair done. He is the first curly hair dresser I've been to that actually has curls himself! I NEVER have to say "don't bother drying it" when what I really mean is "I have places to go and can't manage a fluffy hairdo". He knows just how to let my curls be themselves.   I just got back from my second haircut with Mark and I am so thrilled to have found him. I have never been this excited about a haircut. I have been to several different people in the past who never quite knew how to blow dry my hair and I was always forced to put my hair up in a pony tail as soon as I got in the car.   Overall, I had a wonderful experience at the salon. Mark was as great as everyone else has shared. It had been about 2yrs since I've had my hair cut. We took off about 5 inches and I can say that my curls are happy! :) The thing I appreciated about Mark the most was the time he took to tell me what products I needed, why I needed them, and how to apply them. I've not received that from any stylist. Also, when I asked about when I should schedule again, he didn't give me the standard 'in three months' answer. He basically said, "You'll know.   You know how you go on a first date and think, wow, this is good but you don't want to get your hopes up? Well, now after seeing Marc 3 times, I can say we now have a curly hair relationship. We actually skipped the honeymoon phase and moved on to the real meal deal. I have not been happy with a hairdresser for a long time until I found Marc.   I went to Marc about 4 hours ago today and absolutely loved him. Everyone noticed my haircut and loved it! He asks you how you want your hair cut, which if you are like me, I always say however because I really don't know how curly hair should be cut. He explained to me how he was going to cut it and why he was going to cut it that way. My favorite part was he also explained all of the products he was using and why.   I agree with all the reviews here. This guy is awesome. I was really mad at my hair and really wanted to chop it all off after growing it out because it wouldn't do anything that I wanted it to do. I read all the reviews here and thought why not. I am so glad I decided to go. My hair hasn't looked this good in years. He really listened to what I had to say and even looked at previous haircut pictures that I brought with me to help in deciding what would be best for me.   Marc is exactly like everyone says; professional, informative, friendly, and amazing with curly hair!!! I already had a great stylist, but after finding Marc through this website, I decided, "Why not try him out?". I had a very funky fro type hairstyle that I loved, but wanted to try something extremely different. I wanted to cut it all off into a frohawk type style.   I live in the British Virgin Islands and was going to vacation in Dallas. I decided to check out Marc Marcell, due to his excellent reviews on this site. I must say I was not disappointed at all!! I have had trouble finding someone who knew how to cut my naturally curly hair properly. Marc did a wonderful job! He even took the time to recommend products that would help with my new shorter hairstyle and help me look FABULOUS all the time. As an absolute bonus, Marc is a genuinely nice guy and made me feel at home at his salon. I would recommend Marc to anyone who has curly hair, he knows his stuff!!   I just started going to see Mark about 2 months ago. He is hands down the BEST at cutting curly hair!! Anyone with curls knows how hard it is to find someone that understands how it needs to be cut, and what it needs to be styled.   Mark has been my stylist for years and years now, so he knows that though I'm naturally curly, I typically head for the straightener. On my most recent visit to Mark, I said, "I think I'm gonna go for the curly look (embrace my natural style)!" He was ecstatic, to say the least, so that made me feel good about my decision. About 15 to 20 minutes later, he was all done. Quick and easy. We let my hair naturally dry, and after a few minutes, the curls just sprung up. It looked fabulous! I've gotten so many compliments on the curly cut. I also tried it straight, and it looks just as awesome. I love it. I can work two looks for the price of one! I think he's just so skilled in creating a cut that works both ways, straight and curly. The curls are working out great for me. I think I'm a changed girl. I definitely recommend Mark to a curly head or straight head. You're sure to meet a guy who's cool, laid-back, totally unpretentious and awesome.

  I stumbled upon Mark through my husband when my stylist moved out of town. My husband and Mark were friends before he became a stylist and Mark has been cutting his hair for 8 years. I have only been to Mark 3 times now and as long as I live in Dallas, Mark will be my stylist. Not only is he a great stylist, he's a great conversationalist as well. I always leave the salon feeling pampered and fresh. If you are looking for a down-to-earth stylist that knows what he's doing, look no further.

  --240 monthly haircuts and styles over a decade and a half since I was 16 years old. --20 plus stylist and 18 (+ or -) salons from New York to Dallas to San Francisco. --1 name sticks out: MARK MARCELL Where has he been since I started the battle for the PERFECT cut and style of my curly hair? Well, I am not going to live in the past, but I sure know where I will be going in the future!!! Not only does he, himself have curly hair and the ablility to empathize with his clients, but he has a true natural talent plus years of experience to bring the curl to a desired control. I was at ease the second I sat in his chair. I pepperd him with questions for what he wanted to do to achieve the desired results I have so long been looking for in a cut and style. From his responses, I could tell that he was not just talented; not just had experience; but continually educating himself on the latest and greatest in procedure and product knowledge. But really, who cares what he knows and says. The proof was made certain, not only when I walked out the door, but by the numerous complements I recieved by both man and woman. He truely was worth the search and suggestion I took to go see him!!! If you have curly hair--(or for that matter)--or not, but might have some of the same "HAIR HISTORY," I might suggest checking Mark out!! I just ask, please do not take my monthly time slot!!!!!   When I moved to Dallas six months ago I thought it would take me AGES to find a stylist who could deal with my hair. I've got long curls that I never blowdry, so it takes a good cut to keep it looking decent. Mark is awesome, and also totally fun to visit. Amazingly for Dallas.....you actually leave with money left in your checking account after the cut is over. I also get all my color done with Mark and have been really happy with those results, too. DEfinitely check him out.

  I have been a loyal follower of Mark since 1999. He is the only person I trust with my curls. I have gone through stages of chin length as well as shoulder length and anything in between and I get compliments wherever I go. Mark rocks! And he can also do your color.
