- If I had gotten this cut 5 years ago I would have thought it was the best curly cut on the planet. Unfortunately for this salon I have had fantastically awesome curly girl cuts in the past.
Emily is truly as sweet as can be and very kind, but master of the curly girl cut she is not. I walked in with hair that needed to be brought into bounds, but that had gorgeous locks and when I walked out I had no curly locks and my hair had been entirely thinned out adding a good bit of weight to the look of my face.
Emily dry cut the hair, but she does not dry cut curl pattern-by-curl pattern. She pulls it straight just like any other stylists and starts cutting and then she tries to put the curls back in……..what is she thinking?
A true curly girl cut is curl-pattern-by-curl-pattern. I think she would do a great job with straight hair and if you are use to really bad curly cuts she is a good lower priced option. If you are accustomed to a very high-end curly girl cut that looks fantastic product or no product this is not your salon.

- Emily is awesome. I have very think, coarse, wavy hair and Emily has helped me select the right products to use to keep my hair healthy and feeling wonderful. She listens well to what my concerns are and is always able to make my hair look fabulous. She's made great suggestions that have really made a difference in both look and feel. And, for special occasions, she has done a masterful job in making me look my very best. I highly recommend Emily and her salon (which is adorable).

- I've lived in almost ten US cities and countless ones around the world and have NEVER found a stylist as skilled with curly hair as Emily. I've tried out a few stylists I found through NC but she is by far the best. She gives expertly-shaped dry cuts, handling and forming each individual tendril - it's almost like watching a sculptor work. Her cuts last for months - I get compliments even three months after my last cut. She also does my high- and low-lights and nails it every time. Both the cut and color define my curls in a way that keeps my hair easy to style and looking its best.
Okay, so that's the technical/talent part. Now for personality. The first time I had an appointment with Emily I felt like she was an old friend that just happened to know her way around a pair of scissors. She was welcoming, warm, funny and made me feel so comfortable. I can't even count how many stylists have tried to make themselves look better on my first visit by saying with disgust, "Um, who gave you your last haircut???" I hate that! Never with Emily - nothing judgmental or self-aggrandizing about her. I was worried that I had crossed my legs while sitting on the chair and that she'd be annoyed that my head was uneven (I guess I've been conditioned by stuffy stylists in the past) so I apologized and corrected my posture. She laughed. "I give cuts for real life and I'm assuming you're not always sitting stick straight, so don't worry about it." Could you hear my sigh of appreciation and relief? I wish I could give her a sixth scissor just for that.

- I've never had so many compliments on my hair as since I've been going to Emily. I've also never had such consistently great results. That's not to say she gives me the same thing every time--although she has, and easily can. But I often come in wanting to do something slightly different and fun, but within my conservative comfort zone, and Emily always has great ideas and excellent execution. This last time we added bright auburn lowlights, and I love them.
Emily's cuts are meticulous--one curl at a time, and when she's finished they fall beautifully, and best of all (because I am lazy about upkeep), her cuts grow out so well that I have to come in to have my hair thinned out a little to make it easier to manage long before I actually need a haircut to make it look better. Her highlights are great for curly hair--she grabs individual curls, not random chunks of hair, so they look so natural and catch the light beautifully.
And as an added bonus, she's great personality-wise--enthusiastic, upbeat, accommodating but willing to be creative if you want her to, a really hard worker, and just fun and easy to talk to. (I've actually had to leave hairdressers because I felt overwhelmed by their constant drama that I seemed to just be a handy audience for.)

- OH MY GOODNESS!!! I Love Emily!!
For 20 years now I was sure that I just had terrible hair and no one could give me a good haircut. I have been to many many different stylists and they have never taken the time, care and attention that Emily does to make sure my Hair is perfect!!
Besides being the absolute master at what she does, her personality is exactly what you would want in a hair stylist! Her salon is comfortable and relaxing and totally feels like a home away from home.
If you are looking for someone to not listen to you, and completely screw up the top of your head, then Emily is not what you're looking for. If your looking for the best place to have your haircut on the planet, the most welcoming atmosphere and if you want to meet one of the kindest, honest and caring people you've ever known than look no further!!!!
I will never have my hair cut by someone else!

- I was lucky enough to stumble onto Emily when I needed a stylist at my wedding, and haven't let go of her in the 3 years since. I always hear stylists say, " I work with the hair, not against it" but didn't really understand until I saw Emily in action. When Emily cuts my hair, it's like it was sent to training camp and does exactly what it's supposed to do, straight out of bed with no need for products or styling or anything. Perfect! With thick hair, I've suffered a lot of not-so-good hair cuts in my day and couldn't be more thankful that I found Emily. I recommend her often!

- I lived in NYC for 8 years and used to go to the Frédéric Fekkai Salon to have my hair done by Frédéric himself, have gone to the best hair dressers in Highland Park Village in Dallas, TX and have been to some of the best rated salons in Austin, TX over the last 8 years I've lived back in Austin. Not one hairdresser has ever been able to achieve such a gorgeous cut and natural brown color Emily does that I love so much. Any other color has come out too red or maroon and does not last. Emily was recommended to me by a dear friend and I wouldn't trust anyone else with my hair. Emily has an extensive knowledge of haircutting, coloring, styling and day-to-day care... her blog and personalized consults always helps me learn new tricks to keep my tresses at their best. Emily's taught me more about hair care and treatment than any other hairdresser I've been to, and she's honest about what will look best for your hair style. I'm grateful to Emily for helping me achieve a great color and style, and love all of the compliments I get on my hair now. She's also extremely professional, fun and a joy to get to know.

- Well, it has been over 7 months since my last haircut. I had to wait that long for my hair to grow out after it got whacked off at this salon. I went to see Emily K. to correct a very bad haircut. She looked at it and said "oh easy" I can fix it. I got the same messed up haircut, but only so much shorter I couldn't even get it in a pony tail. My hair had not been that short since High School! My new hair stylist looked at it today and said who the heck cut your hair! Please be careful and think twice before sitting in Emily's chair.

- I am long overdue in writting this review of Emily. I have lived in Austin for 8 yrs and have been to numerous stylist that I have found on this site. I have 3B hair. Bar none she is the only stylist I have gone to that I feel is consistant and current with both her cut and color. I feel she just has the natural ability to know what is going to look best for your face. Emily is also the only stylist that has been able to style my hair. Everyother stylist I have gone to I go home and redo my hair but not with her. I feel so confident letting her do what she feels is best. The best part is she sweet, fun and there is no attitude or ego which seems to be hard to find. I also love the fact that she is the only one who touches my hair, no separate person who washes, colors, and styles. Her salon is so peaceful, a definite get away for me each time I go. I would HIGHLY recommend Emily, I always look foreward to getting my hair cut as know it is going to look great.

- I went to Emily today after reading her reviews on naturlycurly.com. I just got the best haircut of my life... and I've had many, many haircuts. She cut my curly hair while it was dry. When she was finished it looked very current, up-to-date and mostly, perfect for the way my hair really is. I've never written a review before, but the haircut I got today was just so wonderful that I had to comment. I'm glad I found Emily!

- Emily has been cutting and coloring my hair for 2 years and it has never looked better. My curls are the healthiest they have ever been and I am constantly approached by people asking me who cuts my hair. Emily is funny, smart, and open to new ideas so going to see her is a treat!

- I have hair with a mind of it's own that's extremely fragile and requires special attention with cuts and color. Emily always assesses the damage potential of the treatment I inquire about before she does them. Also, I always leave her salon with expert recommendations on how the increase my hair's health. I've been going to her for almost 2 years, and my hair hasn't been this healthy since I started styling it in middle school. Rating *****

- I'm very particular about my hair and was very happy with Emily's cuts and styling. Emily came highly recommended by others on this site from her previous salon at Shade Tree and I had to take a chance. Glad I did.
